The lefties are incensed. Their main media weapon – NZME – may fall into the hands of shareholders who have made it clear that they want to rid the company’s Herald of political correctness and wokism. The left are not going down easily. The long knives are out. The latest is a rant by Ian Taylor in Stuff-ed. He has rushed into the fray attacking the personnel involved – Jim Grenon and Troy Bowker. In his superior judgement they are unfit to be owners of a newspaper.

The elitist love control. They want to manage the MSM and they want to manage education authorities and teachers. Fortunately, and at last, they are in danger of losing some of this controlling involvement in both the media and in our places of learning through charter/partnership schools. If only Luxon and his timid supporters would ease the handbrake of funding for new schools the process could expand more 9quickly and become embedded, out of the reach of Hipkins and his socialist mates. Right now, this is the most critically important initiative of the Coalition that needs a much bigger push. We must urgently stop the churning out of mindless, indoctrinated kids imbued with the crazy belief that NZ could become the first successful socialist experiment.

Back to Taylor. He was busy quoting the Bible to Seymour last week, wrongfully quoting passages to support his claim that Jesus would never join ACT as an MP. His warped theology overlooked the fact that Jesus was ultra conservative (or a true liberal in its classical sense) and he was comfortable with people having very wide income disparity – he called them talents – and obviously saw personal choice and initiative ahead of the collective. Taylor, also obviously doesn’t know what Jesus said about criticising others when you have a log or a mote in your own eye.

While trying desperately to make a case against Grenon and Bowker for having an “agenda” he can’t see the log of bias and political brainwashing already dominating organs like the Herald. It is very much a “pot calling kettle black” approach. But, of course, lefties badly want us to believe they have no big plan, no malevolent intent, no hidden motive.

  Some years ago Fairfax (Sydney Morning Herald, The Age etc) saw off an attempt by Gina Rinehart (Oz’s richest woman by far) to gain a seat on the Fairfax Board fearing she would unduly influence editorial content. So NZME may yet successfully repel the latest invader (I hope he gets his way, puts the boot in and restarts the ‘Alex’ cartoon strip).

This morning’s story about Doyle (see the link in Chuck’s comment below) is not remotely balanced – it is basically a repetition of the Greens’ line that the reaction of the normal majority is all about “homophobia”.   Taylor’s main criticisms of Grenon are that Grenon is challenging the Canadian governments tax regulations in court (a democratic right, the last time I looked), and that Grenon has the support of a fellow shareholder named Bowker who once told Taylor to “fuck off back to your miserable life” ( another democratic right, the last time I looked)

    It seems he (Plunket) has been working on this for some weeks and he may well have more detail than Winston Peters.

  Could have sworn I read some legacy media article yesterday referring to Benjamin Doyle’s child as his “daughter” or “girl”.
  
  If so then presumably he is playing games with transitioning his child – assuming the child is biologically male. Absolutely disgusting.
  
  These “Munchausen by Proxy” parents need to be separated from their children. Forget about offending some alphabet community activists. Just protect the child.
  
  Also, how does some apparently gay guy end up with a child anyway? If the child is not even biologically his, or has a mother who was used as a breeding machine then discarded by a couple of needy homosexual men, then the whole thing is even worse. Why is the mother not protecting her son from his narcissistic gender/sex/trans-obsessed father.
  
  I don’t care what adults do in private. But adults need to leave children out of their weird games involving sexuality and gender.
  
  Another thing, albeit less important, is that this whole pronoun business is just another way for needy narcissists to draw others into playing attention-seeking games.

    I think it came out when they wanted Prof Paul Moon to alter a speech he was giving on the subject at the N Library.

      The National Library has cleared out scores of thousands of books that don’t fit its Woke philosophy.
      
      The argument, I recall, was that the books could be accessed from overseas if needed; that they didn’t have space for all this material; that they needed shelf space for New Zealand books and Pacific books.
      
      That is they wanted to replace the purged titles with books that fitted the National Library’s Woke Kultur.
      
      These are usually published with a State subsidy, typically via a university or a Woke Kultur NGO.

      Yep. Last night I posted that 1 News had covered the Benjamin Doyle story a bit more, and – somewhat surprisingly – had actually started asking some pertinent questions.
      
      They also reported that a gay woman in her 50s, in a civil union, had emailed Chloe Swarbrick after watching her tell reporters that “the rainbow community often use language that could be considered to be outrageous”. She said that she “hugely resents Chloe Swarbrick’s statement … being gay is not an excuse to behave inappropriately or make inappropriate comments … be consistent Chloe, and how dare you tar all gay people and, by connection, their children and their families with an “outrageous” brush.”

        Well Chloe is likely correct in that a higher % of gay/trans/whatever people are into hedonistic life. Of course not all are.
        
        There’s a solid reason why AIDs, gonorrhea, syphallis etc are more common in gays. Same with drug use and excessive alcohol consumption etc.
        
        So based on stats, Chloe might be right. Still it wouldn’t be helpful to just shrug her shoulders and say “hey, it’s a gay thing”.

    While you are correct, the issue is that everyone has to walk on eggs to ensure they are not at risk of being sued. At the moment everything is implied by what BD posted on insta, but until it’s established in law no one is going to use language that could get them in trouble. Hence “inappropriate” rather than “despicable”.
    
    I feel for the PM as he gets hammered from the left to take action against Peters, and from the right for not being decisive enough. I think he did pretty well refusing to criticize Peters, pushing back on the media to do their job WRT BD’s posts, and allowing the legal process to work out.     There have always been rule breakers of course, most minor, many never caught, most grow up eventually. But add takers and sellers of drugs into the mix and offending frequency and severity changes.
    
    Of offenders that are convicted more identify as (part) Maori than are represented in the population. They may not vote of course, unless at Manurewa Marae, but if they do they are more likely to vote TPM than ACT.

      cmm: Tongan law makes no distinction between possession simpliciter and possession for supply. Its up to the Sentencing judge.
      
      I know of one guy in his late 50’s doing 12 years (no parole up here) for possession of 2 kg. Given the conditions in the prison he may well die there. Im not sure if anyone is doing life; the law was only amended quite recently.

  Many cultures (including the Khoi San) have an Earth Mother culture. But in all the cultures I am aware of, that Earth Mother is very feminine and fertile. She is beautiful, fertile and bountiful.
  
  In the Khoi San mythology, the Earth is Mother and the Sky is Father. When it rains, Father’s seed falls on Mother and she blooms with plants and animals.
  
  To call Earth a menopausal butch dyke is a complete perversion of everything. It fails to acknowledge the fruitfulness of the earth and, pretty much goes in the face of all knowledge (scientific or traditional mythology).
  
  But, no doubt this is “their truth” and has to be accepted. It will soon be part of the science syllabus.

    Maori have the same – Papatuanuku is Earth Mother, & Ranginui is Sky Father, and their son Tane Mahuta is god of the forest, Tangaroa is god of the sea, and various other demi-gods, male and female.
    As a mythology – like Greek mythology – it has a passing interest into understanding culture & history.
    However, today these mythical gods are being “re-personned” as to being reality, and so the ancient pagan religion is being foisted on us.
    It is frankly rubbish, just like the ancient Aztec & Inca & Babylonian gods, who require continual sacrifice – human in those days – to be pacified.

  Chief Justice John Roberts appointed him to the United States Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) in 2014, and he served as the presiding judge of the FISC from 2020 to 2021
  
  Not really the problem though. He’s the judge who:
  
  – allowed the FISA warrants to the FBI to spy on Trump’s campaign in 2016.
  
  – when it was later proved that these were based on falisfied evidence he let the convicted FBI lawyer off on the lightest of charges and he even kept his law certificate.
  
  – He oversaw the Jack Smith Special Counsel operation and all the cases associated with it, including the Mar-a-Lago raid.
  
  – He allowed the prosecution of J-6ers under the unlawful use of the corporate fraud obstruction statute, 18USC§1512c2, a.k.a. the Enron law. Later booted by the Supreme Court.
  
  – He presided over the trial of Ray Epps, the loudmouth recorded on video repeatedly urging J-6 protestors to “go into the Capitol.” Boasberg gave Epps a suspended sentence while grandmothers who merely “paraded” through the rotunda between velvet ropes that day got sent to jail.
  
  – Finally, he’s refused to recuse himself from the gangbanger deportation case even after he failed to disclose that his daughter, Katharine, works for a 501(c)(3) called “Partners for Justice” that works on “prison reform”, effectively providing legal services to the likes of Tren de Aragua.

Concern is growing that yet again ,voters and voting will be meaningless next election.
The quality , intelligence or desirability of the half of NZ politicians who do not individually face the ballot is not able to be vetted or decided by voters.
This is not democratic .
The recent examples in particular by TPM and the Greens of a near total disregard in their candidate selections of voters majority values. These politicians actions and even dress code observance assists in identifying their values.
It all about them, not New Zealand and it’s future.
Again not democratic, no one voted for them.
And apparently very limited consequences for these parties.Parties that survive on a minimal share of the vote survive.
This ability to do as they like is dragging Parliament into disrepute.
MMP is an absolute disaster!

Could somebody explain why this is supposed to be a good thing?

Reminder: The people concerned in the Tren de Aguera case, several of whom had no criminal record, were arrested and imprisoned WITHOUT A HEARING. That is, no opportunity to see, let alone question the evidence against them, no legal representation and no opportunity to present a defence.

If this is allowed to stand, it means that anybody can be disappeared. They just have to say, you are an illegal. It doesn’t matter whether you actually are or not, because the simple act of them saying it deprives you of all rights and them of all requirements for due process. This is what happened to these Venezuelans. People such as Judge Boasberg are now the only line of defence for what is left of the rule of law in the US.

        I have a friend in Washington DC who, in partnership with some other people, owned some gyms.
        One of them was arrested and incarcerated for a few days awaiting a court appearance because it was claimed by the police on the basis of cctv footage that he had robbed a bank, or some such
        The judge took one look at the photographic evidence and it was perfectly obvious it wasn’t the same person. The only similarity was a dark complexion.
        Last I heard he was suing the city for false arrest.
        I suppose that’s why these processes are in place

        Yes, except there is some room for doubt whether he is acting within the terms of the Act, which is why people are going to court over it. Injunctions are being granted to preserve those people’s rights pending resolution of the substantive argument. It’s not exactly rocket science. The exercise of administrative power has always been open to review by the courts and Trump and his Executive orders are really no exception, particularly in the US where the courts have a recognised constitutional role.

    Many would likely say that Greens lost their way when Sue Bradford et al came along.
    Others might argue that that is when Greens first found their way.

    The original likely said “nearly 70 mph”. That would be a reasonable thing to say, because when you’re eyeballing and saying “nearly” then you would tend to use round numbers.

Some Arab-American CEO seems to be trying to do some self-promotion by suing American Airlines and alleging she was poorly treated because of race.

She alleges a man sitting next to her masturbated for an hour and then, only when the show was over, did she complain about it. After that she was moved to a different seat.

Seems weird to me. If the masturbation really did happen and she really was offended by it, then why not press the ding-dong button immediately? Why wait for an hour?

    She also claimed that no flight staff came through the cabin for the entire hour. I call BS on that too. Normally they come through every few minutes.

Neill tells us that all the places in the world that are in trouble, Sudan, Ukraine, the United States, etc. are that way because of “toxic masculinity”, and the cure is to “stop men being in charge of stuff”, that if Putin had been “Mrs Putin” the Ukraine war would never have happened. Ardern he worships, which is no surprise.

His reflections on the United States are standard Liberal anti-Americanism, in which he blames the pursuit of wealth for its supposed downfall. This tripe from a man who has become very rich mainly from his work in the American film industry.

It’s instructive because this kind of tiresome and degenerate mindset dominates media, government and academia in NZ. They all talk this way and they all feel empowered by it.

And there we have it: this is really about getting hand outs. Perhaps if you had showed some good outcomes from the hand outs in the past they would still be getting them.

This is obscene: the General election was 14th October 2023, KiwiRail engaged McKinsey on December 6th, 2023, but did not tell the new Government about it until February 7th 2024.

How could they not have told the new Minister for Rail , or the old Minister of Transport ? Unbelievable.
Being a cynic I could easily see this almost as an act of sabotage against the new Government by the Kiwirail Leftwing faction.

  There must be some threshold for reporting these details and one would hope that is below $8M.

  So they did tell them about it in February, but the Ministers didn’t ask “how much”?
  
  Then the amount was only made known in June. And we were only made aware today.
  
  While everything up to February is all on KiwiRail, the fault between February and June must be shared.
  
  It is a Minister’s job to ask these questions and demand answers – not just sit passively waiting 4 months to be provided with them.
  
  Still, this is chump change in KiwiRail’s operation. They likely chew through $8M of taxpayer money a day. Forgive them if this money seems small to them.

  I have been active in the National party. However, my bottom line for my vote is now:
  Remove the Maori seats, Maori are represented in other parties.
  Recognise Maori gave up their rights to govern themselves when they signed the Treaty

They freely admit they are not comparing like-for-like jobs but are using average earnings across all jobs as a proxy. A proxy for what? That never gets answered but it sure as hell is designed to mislead because if you say men are on average paid 25% more than women, to most people that means men are paid more than women for the same job with the same employer, but again they freely admit that no, that’s not what they are measuring, and they seem very proud of it. The arrogance and indoctrination is staggering.

BTW, the agency is 78% women.

    I make no such mistake. It’s a Marxist tactic that even the women there have no idea about. The tactic is to invent a conflict (gender pay inequity), promote an injustice, gather fake data, enact remedial law and gain power over the enemy, which is the free market. But overall it’s the disruptive and abrasive process of it all that is the real goal because it’s easier to foment revolution in such an environment.

  Our company has always paid everyone working for us doing the same job the same pay when they start working for us.
  
  Any future pay differences come about only because some employees work more efficiently and/or show up to work more consistently.
  
  It is very difficult to pay an employee the same amount as another employee when one consistently spends 20 minutes in the toilet with their cell phone.
  
  It’s really difficult to reward employees who take a “sickie” on Monday and show up freshly sunburnt on Tuesday the same as one who shows up consistently on Mondays.

Have been caravan touring the last month. Decided to run home today because of the forecast weather. Came through Whanganui.

There was a piece of road works. Leading up the the works was a passing lane. The entire passing lane, about 2km, was coned off.

Right, I thought, I’ll find that road cone hotline and call it in when I get home.

For the life of me, I can’t find it. Lots of stories announcing it. No phone number or website that I can find. nzta website doesn’t have it.
