  what they need to do is define what “consulting iwi” means in the current ACT (fairly sure that is still being left in- can anyone confirm?). The Tauranga council recently voted to have Iwi reps on their sub-committees with full voting rights! Mahe the woke hid behind the council having to follow legislation- of course consultation does not equate to voting rights- but woksters obvs think it does. That on top of one councilor who is from a maori ward.

  It’s a start but that’s all, and it speaks very poorly of a certain Prime Minister that it wasn’t done back in 2009. It won’t address the inappropriate control over councils by their incompetent and transient staff. And as long as it’s the same staff they’re going to make the same decisions unless the law specifically forbids them to do it – ‘well where does it say we can’t pay fifty people to tweet about climate change’?

  It was Helen Clark’s government that granted councils ‘general competence’ which allowed councils to dabble in such widespread matters.
  With respect to social housing, council have been involved in social housing even before Helen Clark was PM. Wellington City Council has been a long time of social housing and there was general community consensus in support of that policy. Given changing circumstances and attitudes such a policy would be no longer appropriate.

“Maungakiekie MP: Police charging out of their time for large events would be a big win”.
Greg Fleming is National MP for Maungakiekie.
So perhaps in his view the National Party should be paying the Police for providing protection for National Party conferences including the PM’s protection.
This is the case in parts of Australia and led to ANZAC parades being potential cancelled because the Police considered their presence was necessary and expected the local council or RSL to meet the policing cost.
I cannot quite remember, but I think this idea has been suggested in NZ previously.
I hope this is merely an utterance of a newbie MP and does not reflect National Party policy.

  This was mentioned before the election, it’s to capture requested police presence at large events, let these events hire security instead then, police have other things to deal with, and they can always be called to the event something happens, police will be allowed to retain these funds for their discretion

    In practice organisers of major events and venues do provide appropriate security and this is general ensures that order is maintained. Police presence is sometimes required when security officers do not have the legal powers necessary to deal with some incidents. As a rule of thumb there is a police officer for each 1000 population. If there is a 2000 person event then it would be appropriate for two police officers to be assigned to it and support the security hired by the organisers/ venue.

Did anyone see the documentary on ADHD? It showed that a very high percentage of those in prison had ADHD. Maybe they could be treated with drugs as are many who have ADHD but are not in prison.

    I am not saying having ADHD should be a get out of jail card. However, the right drugs could treat those diagnosed with ADHD. It is getting easier to detect ADHD with a brain scan. The doco was very interesting.

    No, a mental illness is worth oppression points on the left so if you have no personality, are completely unremarkable, and are a member of the oppressors (white), then a vaguely defined, incredibly nebulous mental illness that can be used as a catch all for being utterly useless for the most part is a get out of jail free card.

  Funny enough ADHD is under diagnosed in the UK because the NHS cant afford the drugs.

      A women I know paid for an online ADHD diagnosis. It was a great comfort for her to get confirmation that the complete mess she has made of her life was not her responsibility; that she was the real victim and not the people she dicked around.

    I cannot remember any kids manifesting ADHD symptoms when I was at primary school. Naughty kids were disciplined and soon fell into line. I would suggest the real number of people suffering this condition is miniscule the rest were undisciplined as children.

If anyone has the time, the last Oxford Union Debate is worth a watch. Possibly the most disgraceful happening at Oxford, ever. The proposition was that “Israel is an Apartheid State Responsible for Genocide”.
Miko Paled, arguing against Israel, said “What happened on October 7th was not terrorism, these were acts of heroism of a people who were oppressed,” and called for a Palestinian state “from the river to the sea.”
One of the pro-Israel speakers was ejected from the Union. The attendees were almost exclusively Hamas and “Palestine” supporters who heckled the pro-Israel speakers in both English and Arabic. They also constantly interrupted the pro-Israel side with constant points of order.
Watch, make your own mind up.

  There has been discussion around what penalties parliament could introduce to stop offending aimed at social media clicks. The issue was, a small penalty wont stop the behaviour and a large one could be anti democratic.
  
  I believe the solution is to punish the party rather then the member. Something along the lines of reduced parliamentry funding or moving them to less comfortable offices in the basement 🙂

    5% funding per member involved cut for first offence.
    10% per member involved for second offence.
    20% per member involved for every other offence.
    
    So Maori Party would receive 5% funding cut for Ferris.
    Then a 30% cut for the Haka group.
    
    Labour would receive a 5% funding cut for Tau Henare.

  NZ Police staff go to China and are hosted by political “officials”, who have their photos pixelated, and when the public get wind of the trip they scrub their Facebook entries. Then the Police refuse to show the itinerary.

I’m occasionally asked why I’m against cycleways. Today is illustrative. The Southerly has blown through & the rain has gone. It’s on the cool side & there is a breeze; perhaps not the best day but nothing that a committed cyclist couldn’t handle. Yet walking through town this morning I saw just one cyclist.

It struck me that cyclists are like intermittent renewables. When the sun doesn’t shine, or it’s too windy or wet, then there’s no return on the massive investment in cycleways. Yet every other commuter, whether a car driver or a bus passenger whose seat is taken by a fair weather cyclist, is inconvenienced by the infrastructure plastered across the main streets.

Cycling is the new intermittent, and just as worthless when the weather doesn’t play ball.

We’ve had a car parked out on the street here for about a weeks (joys of living one street over from a bunch of welfare funded baby factories). I looked it up on the police website and it was reported stolen 18 days ago. I reported it today. It will be interesting to see how quickly police respond.

  The Police will merely inform the owner or insurance company who will arrange recovery. I found an abandoned car without number plates years ago in a bush reserve and told the Police who were not interested. I went back to it and found the rego etched on the windows and told this to the police. The car was recovered pretty quickly.

      Yep that could lead to the identification of an involved cretin, which could lead to the need for a interview with said cretin and a possible prosecution file, further consideration based on the race of said cretin, which could lead to a family group conference or a Marae based justice sitting or a court appearance, or home D or nothing at all, all with no real effect. The Government’s operating deficits could be $1.5 billion higher than expected over the next three years, delaying a return to surplus until 2028/29, economists say.

I have to hand it to the Herald today for their editorial (unfortunately paywalled) on Winston entitled – “New Rail Minister Winston Peters is never going to be railroaded – especially by journalists”. I think it is a lovely and well considered editorial and one which Winston himself would be delighted to read. For example it says “While most superannuitants – Peters will blow out 80 candles in April 2025 – are into their retirement and putting their feet up, Peters is a whirlwind of energy flying to all parts around the globe as Foreign Affairs Minister.” And in my opinion he is making a good fist of it.

  I’m pleasantly surprised that there have been no major botch ups by any of their MPs so far. Remember the first time they were in coalition with National? Now, all their new MPs could make a pretty good fist of a cabinet post.

    They currently have four ministers including the Hon Casey Costello who has easily been the worst in the short life of this government.
    If she’s among the best NZF have got the rest must be pretty dismal including the hapless Andy Foster rejected Mayor of Wellington in a landslide

    Quite sure he still allows himself these indulgences and good on him! If these indulgences were going to bring him down that would have happened long ago. I think it would take a serious health breakdown to make Winston hang up his political hat. The chances of him fighting the next election are excellent.

Any idea what Maori are costing this country each year in ‘delivering for Maori’ Koha, tax free status for Maori businesses, crime and societal harm including predominantly Maori gangs and their drug peddling & violent crime and predation in general, the cost of the Maori prison population and prosecutions and law enforcement dealing with Maori offending and its aftermath, the cost of the Waitangi Tribunal and investigating Te Tiriti claims, and settling Te Tiriti claims, and the cost to businesses and the economy of the RMA process which is subject to obstructionism and virtual extortion by Iwi and Hapu groups, and the costs associated with the forced Maorification of central and local government, the Public Service, our education system, and the general public?
In short: what percentage of the annual government budget is going to dealing with ‘Maori wonderfulness’ on one side of the coin, and ‘Maori reality’ on the other? And what it costing Councils? And what is it costing (non Maori) businesses, who have activist courts now stacked against them, with our biggest companies now having to fight court battles over their ‘climate change impact’ because ‘Tikanga’ is ‘our first law’?

I remember when

They must have poured the concrete yesterday.
Our little cul de sac had its own ‘stop/go’ man and an increase in road cones.
However, although the ‘stop/go’ man is no longer there today, the 30 km sign and numerous traffic cones are obviously still needed.
