      A Prime Minister on official business would travel on a diplomatic passport, and international convention for many, many years is they have diplomatic immunity (unless waived by their home nation). That is the whole idea – so envoys can meet with the government of a host nation without fear of arrest, imprisonment, execution, etc. It is quite open for a host nation to decline entry to an envoy with a diplomatic passport even if the person may be granted entry with an ordinary passport. So basically Chris Luxon is saying (if that is what he actually said) that Mr Netanyahu would be declined entry to NZ if using a diplomatic passport but would be arrested if he tried to enter NZ with an ordinary passport.
      The matter arose when the previous Pope visited the UK. He was given a warm welcome by the Catholics there, but some activists called for his arrest for condoning (or acquiescing) child abuse etc by his UK priests. They did not realise that he was immune from arrest because he travelled on a diplomatic passport issued by the Holy See. His advisers would advise him not to travel without a diplomatic passport.

        Ghost – Article 27 is a ‘feel good’ provision which is otherwise often meaningless. The International Court may have or claim such jurisdiction and may issue an arrest warrant accordingly. But Diplomatic Immunity would ‘trump’ such an arrest warrant in the same way as it would ‘trump’ a host nation arrest warrant. The exception would be if the diplomat’s employing nation decides to waive diplomatic immunity in any particular case as Australia did recently with respect to an Australian with diplomatic immunity recently.

  Yes Chuck. Just one of many problems Aussie is facing. Their economy is tanking and will continue to tank as the Albo Government chases a Green Dream of solar and wind and shuts down coal fired power stations and refuses to even discuss nucleur. NSW told their citizens to not use air con dishwashers washing machines and dryers the other day and the real summer is yet to arrive.
  Aussie’s economy impacts ours in a big way. If they cant buy our exports NZ has a huge problem. However it is looking like Albo will be a one hit wonder and the Coalition will win the election slated for early next year. NZ has to hope so and that Labor dont get hold of the reigns of power for at least a decade or more.

  Southern will play next week, I think he has been pushed but he will play his test farewell on his home ground. So sad really he will end up with about 393 test wickets, he has won several series for us and although his wicket taking has tailed off he is bowling pretty well

  Southee excepted our bowlers as is usual get the job done no matter who the opposition is. Too many 4 balls yesterday though notwithstanding England have a T20 approach to batting.
  
  Batting is always a problem because rarely do we have 3 or more batsmen getting 70 plus in an innings and Williamson seems the only one capable of 50 plus.

Boot camps fail miserably and should be stopped immediately, according to Willow-Jean Prime, Labour spox for youth and children, and previously Minister for Youth. So she should know.

Her preferred position appears to be the wraparound service provided under Labour that resulted in a 76% reduction of those youth reoffending. She says that this info is included in a BIM.

Obviously I’m looking in the wrong places to see this BIM but it would definitely be interesting to understand the timeframe for recording reoffending, and particularly how it worked for serious youth offenders. Or whether it was more a ‘broken windows’ approach.

Meanwhile this from the Justice Sector Leadership 2023 BIM – However, it is worth noting that the recent increase is mainly driven by a small group of youth with serious and repeat offending,particularly in relation to ram raids and retail crime.

How did that wraparound work for that group?

Something is working. In the past year – two words. Ram raids.

    These young men are probably experiencing their first supportive discipline and effective parenting by their mentor. They are getting a chance to change.

  It was not made clear that the absconders were no longer in a boot camp when they fled.
  So, yes, perhaps a sign of boot camps failing, but a failure in advising the general public of full details.

      Labour and Greens are never in any mood to enter into all-party agreements on core economics and infrastructure. There have been ideas floated over the years in NZ and elsewhere to ‘entrench’ laws related to education, broadcasting (eg BBC), etc but the proposed ‘entrenchments’ are generally to try and lock in left wing ideals.

      Totally agree and waiting for musical chairs to happen again for Northland. Key government started the Puhoi to Warkworth motorway with a planned extension to Te Hana. Labour get in cancel the Te Hana extension the Puhoi bit was too far advanced to cancel. National get in the Te Hana extension back on starting at end of 2026 and further extensions planned up to Whangarei. Great. If Labour get back in, in 2026 presumably all change again with roads being cancelled. Its f…ridiculous enormous amounts of money wasted on consultants etc and zilch achieved.

        It all depends what is politically expedient for Labour at the time. It will leave projects alone if their potential cancellation would lose critical votes. But Labour would probably be sufficiently daft to throw prospective votes and a potential victory down the gurgler. Chris Hipkins shot himself in the foot by promising never to go into coalition with NZ First. That gave Chris Luxon a clear run in coalition negotiations.
        Anyway a Labour victory in 2026 would make history. National has always had three terms in government (and four terms 1960 – 1972) whereas Labour has two one term governments and nearly a third one term government if it were not for the Mosque mass murder and Covid.

      An opposite thing – a young guy set his heart on being an engine driver (as some kids do), so got a job as a clippie on the local trains so he had his foot in the door. He took pride in being punctual and being well turned out – his supervisor did not need to worry whether he would turn up for his shift. He used his position to mix with the engine drivers and would cadge cab rides to return home at end of shift. He was the ideal employee and was on track to fulfil his dreams. Unfortunately he was killed in a freak accident and the family lost a good son and the railways a promising employee.
      if only many more young people would be like that young man and put the effort in like he did. Hopefully on a 1 to 10 employability scale, a boot camp attendee who makes most of the opportunity would go from 1 or 2 on the scale to 8 or 9 and would no longer be a problem to society.
      Trouble is, Labour needs a pool of perpetually ‘disadvantaged’ people for its support base.

The confusing thing for me is that I would have thought employees working from home would have output goals, is the entire purpose of the bureaucracy to wiggle their mouse?
Is the purpose of supervision to ensure the mouse is wiggled, and if so, why not simply have code to monitor the wiggles and send termination notice if wiggles are the wrong pattern?

How did the election go for Kamala? Sure she lost the electoral college and she lost the popular vote. But here’s something that maybe people don’t know.

There was a red wave that meant that every single county in America went redder. Kamala didn’t move a single county in her direction.

After spending over $2B and getting all these celebrity endorsements and overwhelmingly positive coverage from the mainstream media and having the advantage of incumbency, she is the vice president, she lost ground in virtually every county. No county looked at Kamala and went strongly for her.

In my opinion Kamala had two disadvantages. Being the incumbent didn’t help as people wanted change from the Biden administration. She refused to differentiate herself from the Biden administration and in an interview couldn’t think of one thing that she’d do differently.
Secondly she has no talent for politics. She can’t answer questions off the cuff and was asked the simplest opening question: what would you do on day 1 of being president? She seemed to stumble for an answer!

My theory is that she didn’t actually really want the job. At some level she knew she was at best a middle manager, not a CEO.

Don’t believe those that say she’ll run in 2028. Stick a fork in it, she’s done.

  The National Assembly in France doesn’t use MMP. The National Assembly has 577 Deputies elected from single member electorates. If in the first round of the election no candidate gets a majority then a second round is held with the top 2 candidates (and any candidate that got more than 12.5%) in a run off. One news reporting on the bootcamp situation last night was just like a labour party sponsored political attack ad. There was no balance whatsoever.

The reporter seemed to take the line that these bootcamp participants are angels from heaven, who’d do no wrong, and that the bootcamp is responsible for their actions.

At no point did he bring up that these are the worst behaved young people in the country, extremely serious offenders with extensive criminal histories. It’d be a miracle to turn around just one of them.

When it became clear that Donald Trump was going into pardoning big time (and have a scorched earth policy on his political opponents), Amtrak Joe then must have thought – to heck, two can play this game so pardoned his son. So Wellington City Council had appointed a new Chief Executive from the UK. He may turn out to be OK but the prognosis of success is poor in my opinion.
It seems the thought processes of appointers are:
1. Internal applicants are too well known – warts and all. So the known negatives count badly against them.
2. NZ based applicants are also often known but careful background digging and CV checking will give a reasonably accurate profile – again warts and all.
3. The overseas applicant would make a polished application and CV’s and come up with positive referees. Trouble is the applicant has far more control over presentation than NZ applicants. They realise the scope for ‘behind the scenes’ checking is limited and therefore what is in the CV and referees are hand picked. Potential issues are glossed over and potentially damaging referees are not mentioned. Even if a potentially unsatisfactory background is uncovered it does not matter since few people in the applicant’s home country are likely to notice.
Therefore an overseas applicant has a significant head start compared with local applicants and appointing committees do not seem to realise this.
There is also the small matter of whether the appointee is actually suited to the position. The overall dimensions of WCC are significantly smaller than the council he is leaving. He would have to adapt with working with a much smaller executive team and would actually have to carry out tasks that he would delegate in his old job. In particular he needs to have a strong personal grip on Health and Safety matters and cannot delegate that away as the successful prosecution of the former Ports of Auckland CEO has shown.
As an example, some years ago a former Wellington City Council CEO was successful and re-appointed twice, but councillors wanted new blood so he was not offered a fourth term. He became CEO of Tauranga City Council but was a failure in the job since it required a much more hands on approach than in Wellington.

  The mere fact of having worked in England’s dreadful system of local government should be disqualifying. And what is ‘local’ about local government when all of the staff are tumbleweeds from God knows where, and their priority is big- ticket items that will look good on their next job application? Luxon finally caves and says”yes”.

I despair. The correct answer, Mr Luxon, is “fuck off”. Ok, ok, he probably can’t say that. How about “I’m not going to make promises to you, Jenna, you don’t get to make demands.”

Today I will mention a couple of reasons why the media are morally corrupt.

This week we have had two big announcements for the betterment of this nation. 1: there was a huge gas found in Taranaki that apart from Hosking has never been mentioned by the morally corrupt main stream media, apparently it’s enough gas to produce 3% of all our gas needs which is apparently huge. 2: earlier in the week Luxon announced with the agri minister that planting pine trees on highly productive land will be outlawed, not just foreigners but all farm owners, yes the farm owner if a NZer can diversify their farm but plant no more than 25% in pines, building also will not be allowed on huge swaths of great productive lands, this has not been a knee jerk reaction, but a well thought out plan, there is 6 stages of productive land and all have conditions on them from 1: no planting at all, to 6: where some planting is allowed, I think I have seen one small article tucked away buried on the one MSM page, again morally corrupt media.

Then we hear Fonterra has lifted its milk sold payout to above $10 for the very first time, hardly a murmur from rotten MSM as they believe farmers do not pay tax on the profit in their business.

All these ignoring these great things for NZ should be shouted from the tree tops (excuse the pun) instead all we hear from media is lies about nurses being on a hiring freeze, OT failure, two escaped boot campers, which shows they should be locked up, can’t be trusted at a funeral, one killed in an accident suggesting it was in the boot camp, turns out it was a traffic accident. The lies about the commissioner of health being defamed by a corrupt ex minister of health, and oh the coalition is hating each other.

So sick to death of this rotten media, the corrupt left, the nurses lying about nurses hiring in a freeze echoed by labour even though they have hired 3300 nurses since Labour we’re booted, and there is a 3000 gain of nurses on the ground, and also the fact only 3 police have been hired of the hire, so a broken promise to have 500 extra by June 26, rotten rotten media.

Summing up, this is why it hurts when people on here rubbish Luxon even though they vote Act, after polls this week continue to show the government out, and Hipkins the failure with greens and TPM in cabinet for the first time ever.

We need to let the mess and the hard things be done by mid next year and then start growing the economy before anyone can decide to change back to the hard left.

    Yep how incredibly dumb it is for NZ to replace productive land:
    
    – Which generates income for the farmer, which is reinvested back into the farm, which supports the service industries and various trades, providing for their families and therefore the wider community, including schools, teachers, retail etc; export revenue, govt taxes and so on).
    
    With trees:
    
    – That generates zero income for the owner for years (instead, incurs costs) and the community – nothing.
    
    – That allows the overseas investors that planted the trees to offset the CO2/emissions they produce in the own countries.
    
    – Meaning these overseas countries can continue with their industrial outputs producing more emissions … and continue to acquire once productive NZ land to offset their emissions.
    
    – Meaning the overseas companies carry on “polluting” and enriching themselves.
    
    – Meanwhile NZ loses a revenue stream and are progressively “poorer”.
    
    – Meanwhile NZ’s “green elites” (and left-wing politicians and the blob) continue to siphon (taxpayer) funding to continue this destructive process and demonise those that point out the error of this absurd “death cult” thinking.
    
    Suggest the “green elite” and left-wing politicians be pelted with sheep and cow manure to see the error of their ways and understand the anger of the silent majority. 😉

      You forgot: lots of those trees are planted on hills so steep and rugged and remote that it would be uneconomic ( if possible ) to harvest them: so what will happen to them when they mature ?
      They bugger-up the soil.
      And their slash/waste can have disastrous consequences.
