Good to see that once again Sevu Reece has been let off a crime because he is a rugby player.

2018: Move to nz and drag your partner down the road by her hair? All good, you can stay here and play rugby. We will let you off because you will probably make the all blacks and will need to travel. Just don’t do anything else else bad ok?

2023: Get drunk and aggressive and when asked to leave a party, jump in the hosts car, smash it into the garage and run off. All good, we will discharge you without conviction again because you are an all black and need to travel. Also, once you finish playing for the all blacks (which incidentally should have been 2 years ago based on form…) you will need to be able to travel to get a lucrative overseas contract.

This piece of shit should have been deported in 2018 and never allowed to play for the all blacks. Instead potential to play for the all blacks seems to let you do what you want without consequence.

  I hate sports people getting off lightly because of the impact on their job but this case isn’t one of them. When you get home D for beating up elderly people it is not unreasonable to get off for being a pissed idiot and accidentally driving into a garage door (forward instead of reverse). Sure he was a dick but its hardly the crime of the century. His first offense seems far worse on the surface.

    I get that with that mix it gives the impression that it’s racially biased in some way, and it likely is very Maori focussed. Actually, I have this on insider authority, hence the forced karakia at nursing shift changes etc. And everyone is too scared to challenge the Maori person on the council that bullies everyone into following her dictums – is that the right word? I see people around me packing up and heading to Australia daily, Brisbane is a popular destination. I wonder if Luxon will reconsider going on the Platform after the shit show interview on Q&A with Tame. It couldn’t be any worse and in fact if it’s good enough for Willis, Winston, Shane Jones, Seymour etc then what’s Luxon’s issue? It can’t be that he’s scared of a few hard questions e.g Mike Hosking this morning, although Luxon’s giggling was a bit weird. If anything after Tames attack dog tactics he should look at The Platform as being the most reasoned and balanced of media outlets. Luxon seriously needs some media training or should be locked away and let Seymour and Winston front the news.

  Another objective in doing so would be to help further the destruction of the MSM by effectively promoting alternative media. The Joe Rogan world is rapidly doing that in the USA anyway but sessions like those with Trump and Vance – plus those Trump did with other podcasters – may have given a few clues to future GOP pollies. You don’t need the MSM and in fact they’re harmful to you.
  
  Certainly in the wake of the Harris debacle there should be people in the Dems who will accept that the edited, short-form MSM interview is dying and that they’ll need candidates who can cope with podcast-style “interviews”.

Roy Morgan’s New Zealand Poll for November 2024 shows the Labour-Greens-Maori Party Parliamentary Opposition on 50.5% (up 2.5% points) consolidating their lead over the National-led Government (National, ACT & NZ First) on 44% (down 3% points).

The Roy Morgan Government Confidence Rating jumped 18pts to 104 in November – the first time Government Confidence has been in positive territory above 100 for nearly three years since January 2022.

  National need to take a good hard look at themselves over Christmas and see where they can improve. There have been some great moves, especially in education, health and infrastructure but their messaging has been weak. They need to be carefull NOT place the blame on the recession. Thinking that ‘she will be right once we get back into growth’ is not a good move.

    However note the previous months RM poll also had the Opposition ahead of the Coalition
    
    Interesting that while TPM have doubled support (Hikoi), ACT / NZF have remained stable. The Opposition gain is coming from National.

    I have much more confidence in the country and the economy under decent National management. National are doing a much better job then Labour.
    
    My frustration is around the timidness of National. There are hard decisions that need to be made and National are taking the ‘softly softly’ approach, which isn’t what we need.
    
    1st year uni fees was stupid. National should have scrapped them, instead the enshrined them in the 3rd year. We will never get rid of them now.
    
    Free lunches for every kid that wants them is poor policy. Instead of fixing the policy, the govt just halved the cost of providing the lunches.
    
    We need to reduce our government bureaucracy, instead of doing that we have a one off 6% across the board untargeted cut. Where are the rest of the savings going to come from, we see and hear no action around this? We still have dozens of unnecessary departments for example.
    
    We have serious issues around co governance and separatist Maori organisations. What has the government done around this? My wife just went to the MOE, her printed name tag said the she was at ‘Te Tahuku o te matauranga’ in large bold wording and in microscopic wording ‘Ministry of Education’. They haven’t even gotten rid of all this crap let alone the big issues.
    
    These are just off the top of my head. My point is, it is quite possible to have more confidence in this govt then the last hopeless fools, but be unhappy with the lack of vision being espoused.

  Luxon and Willis come across as patronising and also a little bit stupid. It’s slipping away from them, isn’t it. Luxon is as tough as a wet tissue. These people get parachuted into National by the corporate establishment, they have no conviction, their job is to maintain the status quo on behalf of their corporate masters. Nobody must rock the boat or upset anyone, the MSM are to be treated with kid gloves and certainly not defunded. The Left are pinching themselves at how meek it all is, RNZ and the Unions cook up a couple of bombshell ‘health system in crisis’ stories every day and there is ZERO response from the right. Why isn’t Luxon or Goldsmith kicking off over TVNZ’s farcical ‘drivbers’ story?! This is just is all so pathetic and disappointing.

    Luxon dropped her from the portfolio. The commentariat said Lee was inactive.
    
    The replacement, Paul Goldsmith, has done little apart from make a few minority appointments to State radio and State TV.

Kiwiblog readers may be surprised, even shocked to learn that our banks are seriously working on moves to penalise farmers with increased interest rates if they do not take urgent measures to reduce their methane emissions. The costs imposed would be sizable and hurt viability.

It is fair to ask what have emissions got to do with the banks? Are they getting pressured from “higher up?”

What’s next? Higher interest rates for clients with petrol cars? for not having solar panels??

NZ farmers contributed 4 millionths of one degree C to the planet’s temperature last year more than offset by the CO2 used to grow grass and the amount sequestered in the soil.

The whole climate change religion/ideology is out of hand and become a dangerous uncontrollable monstrous industry.

  I spent 3.5 hours yesterday on a Fonterra “enviromental plan”. Sounds all luvverly and green, after all who doens’t love clean water and trees? A lot of it was to do with greenhouse gases and CO2e assessment. As I pinted out to the Fonterra rep, none of th egrass or aceres of trees I have count to offset my so called emmisions, unless I cover the farm in pine trees.
  To get an accurate outcome, you have measure completely and accurately. It is BS, and deliberatly done to destry farming.
  Fonterra are going to set the “cooperative difference” payout that reflects the greenhouse gas emmissions of how we farm. There is a good reason supplier numbers are dropping and this BS will squeeze margins which are paper thin in farming anyway.
  I woudl make more money leasing th eland to market gardenrs or running beef stock than dairy, due to lower input costs and being able to rent out buildings.

    Pardoning his son may not have been the smartest move. It doesn’t stop Hunter from being questioned about his crimes, it just means he can’t be prosecuted or found guilty. It also means he doesn’t have grounds to plead the 5th when questioned about crimes in the 10 years and 11 months because he’s not subject to prosecution. The 5th is there to protect you from incriminating yourself, but if you have pardon you can’t technically incriminate yourself. This means Trump’s DoJ could go after the rest of the Biden crime family through Hunter.
    This isn’t my opinion, this was raised by a US Lawyer. While it’s still only opinion it may hold up in court.

A counter view I’ve seen is that the pardon only applies to federal charges so he could still ‘plead the fifth’ if the potential for self incrimination would expose him to charges of breaches of a state law – eg if there is a state tax or gun matter that testifying could expose him to.

  This is such bollocks. 50 years ago we couldn’t measure it, and paid it no mind, now it is constantly monitored and screeched about by the benefiting merchants of scare. Water quality has improved steadily throughout our lifetimes as farming practices and sewage treatment and stormwater have become much more stringently policed. It’s not significantly dangerous, humans have spent Millenia living in extremely close proximity to defecating herbivores – with everything, water, food, clothes etc contaminated by their + human piss and shit, we are evolved to survive orders of magnitude worse than we are currently exposed to. It is just that we have officious safety elves manufacturing scares out of ridiculously tiny ‘safe levels’ to justify their jobs.

Having done some investigating with the Banks I understand something like the following.
Firstly they have to increase their profits by an amount higher than inflation for the oncoming year.
Remembering that a Bank’s job is to lend money.
They will do this by the following methods.
Mortgages to new first time buyers get priority as the banks can see a long term banking arrangement with the borrower.
Some, like Farming, will be continually kicked hard as they are not Green enough.
Small business will fight like hell to get an increase in their minimal overdraft.
Whilst the Reserve Bank rate is reduced, and may be again shortly, that will only affect mortgagees over the next twelve months or longer,
Term Deposits have been slashed substantially already to the lenders to the Banks.
Such people with savings are anathma to the banking people, like them, capitalists.
Staff numbers will be cut again, and contracts will be tightened, and hours reduced for some, for those remaining.
Service will again deteriorate as it does already.
The CEOs can claim to be the highest paid in New Zealand whilst they are here, but a good future for them in Head Office in Australia if they can get get better profit return than their Australian counterparts.
Look at et current differentials between borrowng and lending – never been so high.
Even Muldoon said a differential of 2% was adequate – ours is much greater and increasing in the Banks favour.
Ain’t going to be pretty as these Banks take no notice of what the Public and the Government want.
They have become a financial law unto themselves and like our Public Servants do not care a damn only their image and salaries at the top levels.

Anyone seen the acknowledgment of error and apology to the government from TV One about their factually incorrect news item on drivbing job availability in Napier ?. I.e. we are sorry, our whole story attacking the government was based on a mistake on our part and was not picked up during editing due to confirmation bias. Something like that ?

Saw the lady who runs Auckland water on the news last night.
She told people to take 4 minute showers and restrict water on gardens etc.
Isn’t she paid to make sure the water comes out when we turn on the tap?
If the supply is purely dependent upon the rainfall, which it is, then what is the point of an extremely well paid manager?

      Arsenic levels at ~10 parts per billion = makes the news, but it’s totally inconsequential bullshit scare. You would need to drink about 300L of such water to match your normal daily ingestion of Arsenic from food. trace quantities of Arsenic is another normal part of our environment and diet that animals have been evolved to withstand handle for billions of years.

        It is certainly a bullshit article. Most of the foods we eat contain trace arsenic, but not enough to cause any problems. The ancient Greek athletes used to use arsenic as a performance enhancer but its effects would diminish – so they took slightly more every so often – until it affected them with kamate.

  At least they are telling people nice and early that they need to conserve water. Maybe they’ve actually learned something from the monumental incompetence they showed five years ago.
  
  Remember back to summer 2019/2020 when it was blindingly obvious that water shortages were on the way. Those of us on tank water started conserving water in October 2019 because we could see the problems ahead. Remember all the stories running in January and February about people on tanks in Auckland and Northland who were running short of water, having to wait six weeks or more for a water delivery, cleaning companies unable to work due to a lack of water, etc??. Stories like this were running daily, yet Aucklanders used record amounts of water in January, and Watercare said they weren’t really too worried but if we could please go just a little easier.
  
  Then along came Covid and all the stories of water shortages got pushed off the news. But people on tank water knew the problem hadn’t gone away, and we were rationing our water usage as much as possible. We could see our tanks getting lower, and no meaningful rain on the horizon. Yet Watercare – who surely must have more accurate forecasting and planning strategies than me – waited until May I think it was before they put restrictions in place.
  
  By late June, the Watercare chief executive at the time FINALLY decided to move Auckland’s water supply status to “critical”. Apparently he had been “hoping for significant rainfall to replenish our dams”, which didn’t happen.
  
  Do you think by now these clowns have learned the lesson that “hope” isn’t really a great strategy when it comes to managing water supplies?

All this criticism of Luxon and the National Party overlooks one very important political reality. Governments are voted out. This is what occurred at the last election. A majority of the country simply wanted a change and never gave much thought to the alternative. I was certainly in that camp. A life long Labour voter I was fed up to the back teeth with the so called Labour government and just wanted a change. After a year many have come to realise this lot are no different just ” piss and wind” and Luxon is your typical corporate climber never shaking the tree. At least Key had a form of charisma. So many have jumped ship again probably into a whirlpool of uncertainty.

  Fewer potholes in the road. Education issues are being addressed (probably the largest Labour failure, Trevor Mallard’s NCEA has always been a dog).
  
  Fewer ram raids, remember that plague?
  
  Lots of roads being fixed, albeit by the slowest road workers in the galaxy!
  
  And, inflation has been addressed, I doubt labour could have ever cut spending to fix inflation.

  There are a host of improvements if you want to admit.

  despite it being sad you have hit the nail bang on, short attention spans etc, I know plenty who are exactly as you say and I think most on here would be stunned at how many people are like that, not political at all but sensed that it was time for a change, didn’t really have any idea who or why but didn’t really care either. majority of people vote for a person not a party which is sad, people are by the majority not political at all in my experience

Regular readers of KB will know that Marsden has been supporting more and more crap research that is of no perceptible benefit to NZers.
