Where the future of Labour lies –
• The government wants to divide New Zealand along ethnic and economic lines, Chris Hipkins says, and he wants to be the leader who brings it together.

Remember the Frozen Sparrow story moral 2: Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend – and was that person the one who dropped you in the shit in the first place – like co-governance manure?

• He said a “new Labour government” was needed to “bring the country together again for our next big fight, and that’s a fight for a fair go for all New Zealanders”

‘for all New Zealanders’ – sounds as if all are equal – as in Seymore’s Article 3 – like, in the Treaty?

For the Maori who are among the lowest social demographics or statistics, Labour delivered next to nothing, but rather than raising them economically anywhere really, Labour still promoted Maori exceptionalism, raising Maori ethnicity above all others, which a vast number of non-Maori New Zealanders couldn’t understand made any sense – because it perhaps doesn’t – so Labour created the Great New Zealand Divide “along ethnic and economic lines” – and New Zealand voted them out.
But next term Labour will fix it?

    Other than the Greens, Labour MPs and Labour supporters are the most impractical and clueless people you could ever find – as their performance in office has proved so many times. MMP has enabled the entry of such brainless cretins into parliament, people who believe that government has lots of money – but haven’t a clue where it comes from.
    I’m of the firm belief that a Royal Commission should be appointed to examine the acts of Ardern, Hipkins, Robertson et al with a view to determining whether or not they were worthy of punishment.
    On the basis of Labour’s last performance, what rational soul would ever seek to trust them again?

        PD, try as I might, I cannot bring myself to even begin to regard the Maori Party’s parliamentary personnel as MPs. Certainly, their actions underline my description of impractical and clueless people, but their efforts are not the ones of elected persons who were seeking to improve the lot of the country. Indeed, whatever selfish “efforts” they do make seem to be striving to achieve the exact opposite. Their periodic lapses into primitive braying show how little of civilisation they’ve actually acquired.

    Wealth tax will not get over the Labour line, as long as they have a little look at what has happened elsewhere, like France but not only. In France the wealth tax was abandoned in a big hurry when the numpties noticed that wealth was fleeing into the arms of welcoming countries, including Russia. And in some cases just across the border into Belgium. Capital flight.
    
    One issue with CGT is that for many owners – farms, businesses, rentals, classic cars, gold bars …. – they can delay realising the capital gain until their accountant confirms it makes sense financially. Decades maybe. Unless desperate, or falling under the existing CG tax regime. So the projected revenue needs to be looked at very carefully.

The National Public Health Service is exactly what’s wrong with this country. … creating work and waste … what te tiriti has to do with fries and a chocolate shake I have no idea and I suspect they don’t either … why is the industry and apparatus in not-doing-business so vast, so complicated, so expensive and so wasteful.

Noted that Public Health submissions are suddenly being reviewed by Health NZ. Maybe Margie Apa will tell the actual public the results of the review. Though more likely any public announcement from Health NZ will be buried under a few cubic metres of word salad.

Minister Reti’s announcement, hopefully not so much.

Meanwhile, this is not the only taxpayer funded overreach. Suspect other ‘reviews’ are being reluctantly considered.

New Zealand has a growing list of serious problems, like the cost of living, ideological hijack of our institutions, poverty, homelessness, a dysfunctional education system, crumbling infrastructure, the obesity epidemic, declining trust in our institutions, growing gang membership … I’ll stick my neck out and say an 8.2 % “gender pay gap” is nothing to worry about.

    What is more troubling though is HMNZS Canterbury’s commander saying she brings a “woman’s touch” to the ship.
    
    Sorry missus, you should only bring the “Navy’s touch” to the operation of a Naval vessel.

      No really. Theresa Gattung made a rather silly boast at a conference saying Telecom deliberately made its charges complicated to confuse its users. This was exactly the opportunity a Labour PM in charge of a sinking ship (NZ) was looking for. Treaty Bill – democratic conscience vote on a constitutional matter

The Green Party has urged the Speaker to allow a conscience vote on the Treaty Principles Bill, calling it a “divisive waste of time.” Co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick criticized National MPs for inconsistent stances, advocating for individual responsibility and aligning with public opposition to the bill.

The bill has now passed the vote which this claim applied to, but there is no “conscience vote” intended on the next vote, to kill the bill in its tracks, or not, and is that because all parties, other than ACT, claim the bill to be so divisive that they fear some MPs may actually divisively break party constraints to reflect what each MPs honestly believes represents their constituents’ views?

At that stage – just under six months away now – a “conscience vote” should be allowed

Chlöe Swarbrick, on the vote to send the bill to select committee (which has happened already), was a vote without any absolute knowledge, of course, of what examination of the bill in the Committee Stage can reveal. So for a pretty much blind vote, Chlöe said –

“It’s time for the 123 Members of this Parliament to take personal, individual responsibility for whether the Treaty Principles Bill nonsense goes any further.
… our country’s precious energy and focus being poured into this imported, divisive culture war for months as this plays out at Select Committee. But that’s not inevitable. If MPs were free to vote with their conscience, I am confident many would align with regular New Zealanders, and put this rubbish in the bin where it belongs,” says Chlöe Swarbrick.

      As New Zealanders, we including Maoris were all British subjects until 1983 (at least as far as the UK was concerned).

  Except they’re not tino rangatiratanga (TR) as they’re funded by everyone else. TR would be a model similar to North American Indians. Tribes, on their own land, with their own money raised by their own commercial activity and tax on their own people would implement their own health organisations, etc. I’d be quite happy with that. It’s fair and it’s in accordance with section 71 of the 1952 Constitution of NZ Act. Which has been superseded.

Progressive procurement is being ditched!
This from Act’s latest newsletter:
‘Cameron Luxton wrote to local councils across New Zealand, calling on them to ditch ‘progressive procurement policies’. These policies see businesses win or lose council contracts based on how ‘progressive’, ‘diverse’ or ‘sustainable’ they are, detracting from a value-for-money focus.

In September, the Government ditched Labour’s quota for 8 per cent of government agencies’ contracts to be awarded to Māori businesses. It’s time for councils to follow suit.

In February, the Auckland Mayor flagged a review of the Council’s procurement policies after a long-standing contractor was ruled ineligible based on a lack of ‘social enterprise skills’ and relationships with community and Māori organisations. ”

This is welcome news as it ditches the idea that Maori businesses or businesses that have DEI policies should be preferred suppliers to Central and local government.

Maybe we are going back to merit and cost effectiveness and quality as criteria for selecting contractors? What a great concept! 😎

  Certainly in Tauranga there are a number of aspects now being reviewed by the Auditor General, the senior staff being cogniscant of what was happening under the old Mahuta Commissioners
  But they are employees under only person with authority, the CEO, not Mayor or Councillors.

I don’t think I have seen a more biased, argumentative and disrespectful interview than Jack Tame had with Chris Luxon. Constantly interrupting, repeating questions over and over. As a contrast listen to Leighton Smith where each week you will hear an interviewer not interested in hearing their own voice and opinions but who they are interviewing. Jack Tame should be highly embarrassed and needs to grow up and should be reported to the broadcast standards authority. Just imagine if there was an interview like that with Jacinda. Helen Clark had the balls to call John Campbell a creep, Luxon needs to call out this little *’@# as well.

  I forced myself to watch this because I wanted to hear what Luxon said about the Treaty Bill. He gave out the same word soup, so nothing new. He lacks leadership and any logical thoughts on this topic.
  
  I thought the rest of the interview was a complete train-wreck for Luxon. Yes ‘Lame Tame’ was his usual horrible annoying Leftard self, but Luxon was hopelessly lost on giving credible answers to most topics.
  
  This Govt is in the crap if the economy remains in recession mode for another year or 2. And right now there is nothing in their “100-day plans” that will spark economic activity. Some good direction, but just way too slow and cautious.

So – Zelenskyy has finally publicly come to the conclusion that was inevitable from the day Russian activity crossed the border to support the culturally Russian people of eastern Ukraine – that eastern Ukraine will become formally part of Russia.
Ukraine will not become a NATO country (as Zelenskyy has said is a condition of ending hostilities) and all that will be achieved by his stubbornness and stupidity is the death of half a million Ukranian military (and half a million Russians), the ruination of Ukraine and the biggest losers of all –
the ordinary people of Ukraine.
Infrastructure is shot, agriculture – Ukraines main income – is ruined and industry is ruined.
Its of no use to say that Russia was at fault or that the west didnt help enough. It was obvious since 2014 when the separatists in the east started shooting that it would not end well; and a shonky election that bought Zelenskyy to power only made the result more inevitable. I expect that when the hostilities cease one of the first things to happen will be Zelenskyy hanging at the end of a rope.

For hundreds of years the Balkans have regularly decided to break the boredom by one tribe or other deciding to shoot some of their neighbors. The last time was 1982 I think.
The Balkans are occupied by what are called South Slavic peoples. I dont know why they go crazy every so often – it must be in their genes.

  It those who from the Middle East who will perforce eventually breed children with a low mentality as we see in the Middle East.

  The French contractor would have kept good documentation and would be able to show that it was required to do all sorts of ‘variations’.
  Like the Justice Precinct in Christchurch – Fletcher Construction was faced with a ‘moving target’ and kept records of all the extra work it was asked to do (much of it was ‘face saving’ work). Their payment requests for variations were declined so Fletchers sued and was awarded payments for most if not all the variations.

  The more important question is, does it matter? What harm would having Owens come and speak in NZ cause? All her views are already online and available free to a much larger audience then her show could ever achieve.
  
  I would suggest if the new criteria for entrance into the country is antisemitics are banned, then ZERO UN officials should be granted entry and most Muslims would also be banned.
  
  If the criteria is ‘no crazies with strange, un scientific views’ I would suggest Neil Degrass Tyson and the staff of scientific America be banned for their views on men and woman sports people being equal and that woman loose to men only because they have been oppressed. Great to hear Rod Carr explain to Jack Tame that there were no reasons for us not to move to a fossil free future.
Of course, Jack didn’t question him about the ease with which this would be attained.
Jack let him skip through plentiful supply of batteries, no mention of effect on visual environment, and sources that are far into the future (heated water).

        The water and castor oil just act as carriers. 50/50 to start. Slammed a finger in the boot and put it in an eye drop mixture of DMSO and the pain went in 10 minutes and the nail looks as though it will stay. There are a number of videos on line with varied instructions for use. One of the blokes had an ulcer on his leg that had been there for about 3 years. It isn’t really the Treaty Settlements money that is the problem.
The real problem is the amount being siphoned off from Local Government and businesses so that they can operate without disruption.
All being removed from the tax collection as a result of the Treaty Settlements.
Money (assets) used for settlements and, at the same time, removed from the future tax take.
An amount that the general public are largely unaware of and no one knows how much it totals.

  #disclaimer: I do have a grudge with Microsoft after they blamed me for stealing their IP. On that basis they made tens of millions of dollars out of people using software I wrote by claiming IP royalties. It was eventually challenged in court and Microsoft withdrew their claims on that IP. Of course those royalties were never refunded and I got exactly zero out of the deal, and they never retracted their allegations against me.

      to be honest Microsoft is now like a phone, your not supposed to turn it off, its designed to run 24/7 and has built in sleep modes, then wakes and runs maintenance checks updates etc in its downtime , it is very counter intuitive to keep restarting it every day and it then runs a whole lot of test including a virus scan behind the scenes. routines and checks while you are trying to then use it and you wonder why its so slow,
      no its not perfect but is getting closer, self healing, virus protection etc are getting better all the time

      win 11 will run on nearly anything, it does need someone to fiddle with a couple of files to bypass the setup roadblocks but once its done it installs and runs on basically anything that runs windows 7, it runs way better on old gear than win 1o does and in alot of ways better than even 7 did.
      goolge rufus install usb or if you need some help let me know, Ive had it running on 4gig laptops that are 10 years old no problem and can guide you through it.

      Just what comes with windows 7, Defender. It will be out of date. But never had an issue.
      
      I have a PC with Windows 10, only run the built-in Windows Defender. Never have used anything else. Once a year I’ll run Malwarebytes and one other freeware software as a check and the worst that they’ve picked up is the usual advertising bug that infests one of the browsers … probably should stay away from some trashy sites.
      
      The best antivirus software is your brain. Don’t click on links or attachments in emails and take some care in what you download.

I see The Herald has memory holed the story/article of the Police Officer who was a “Straw Buyer” of Firearms, Misused the Police Computer, Used False Identities to Buy Guns, Incriminating Innocent Licensed Gun Owners in the process but according to NZ Police – All Good, Nothing to see here – except the IPCA disagreed. Mike McIraith’s attempted cover-up of this was before the “New” Gun Register thereby incriminates the Offender & Police more as he says these were Restricted Firearms as they were all that were Registered by Law back then. I think this surely must have been a High-Ranking Police Officer for this amount of lying and covering.
This Officer should have been Charged, Convicted and Thrown out of the NZ Police forthwith. What say you Minister Mitchell.

With the sinking of Manawanui, The Government is insurer of last choice. ie Tax payers.

Ever wonder why the Rena that run aground was never removed ( Along with Toxic containers). The simple answer NZ was asleep at the wheel and had not SIGNED the Nairobi Wreck Removal Convention. ( Rest assured they did afterwards ).

    Leadership failure on a ship is the responsibility of one person and one person only: the captain.
    
    I don’t care what she has in her pants. I don’t care what she does with it. All I care about is her being up to her job and running a taxpayer funded asset properly.

  Asa one time Marine Underwriter in London years ago the practices then have not changed as under Maritime Law a Standard policy will include, such as Removel of Wreck up to the value of the vessel, and often addition cover for these extraneous things can be purchased cheaply in excess of the standard vessel value.
  So this case gonna cost us big, as I do not think that anybody would do any insurance, so the Taxpayer is the Insurer for first and last resort !

        C’mon, be serious. After all the investigating of Biden and his family, Republicans had masses of evidence from the Administration including the White House, the DOJ, the FBI, and the IRS. They had evidence from banks and from private citizens, all of which showed there was no wrongdoing. Nothing.
        Btw, E Jean Carroll , the woman that he sexually assaulted, was the same person who Trump said wasn’t his type and then went on to mistakenly identify her in a photograph as being his second wife, Marla Marples – who was obviously his type.

  It’s a feature not a bug. Risk aversion in males (less so in females) is something that comes with age for evolutionary reasons. There is potentially much larger payoff for risky behavior in youth when trying to leap ahead in power hierarchies.
  
  Historically only about 40% of males (vs 80% of females) had kids, much lower in some societies, so risk taking was generally necessary to have some shot at successful procreation. Evolution itself gambles much more on Males for that reason – explaining why there is so much more phenotypic variability in men, and we dominate the edges of the bell curve in almost every respect.

The votes in Ireland’s general election are currently being counted.

The 34th Dáil will comprise 174 TDs (MPs), the most ever, elected by PR-STV from 43 constituencies – 15 × 5 seats, 15 × 4 seats and 13 × 3 seats. With the collapse of the Greens, Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael will need the Social Democrats and/or Labour to continue governing, assuming they continue to shut out Sinn Féin, which appears likely. Many on the Left are apoplectic at Seymour for his Treaty Principles Bill, saying it is quite proper that the courts decide this stuff and it’s quite wrong that Seymour uses Parliament to change things worked out by the courts, academics, Waitangi Tribunal etc etc.

Now that they have had an adverse decision from the Supreme Court – I wonder what the Left’s position will now be?

Accept the decision with good grace and keep their mouths shut or yell and scream, reject the Court’s decision and promise to change the law once they get back into power i.e. do exactly what they are crucifying Seymour for?

What’ll it be lefties? What say you now Mr Jackson? What about you Mr Waititi? Ms Ngarewa-Packer?

  It’s not really an adverse decision. It simply interprets existing law without creating new law, unlike the decision of the Court of Appeal. Hopefully it will remove the need for further legislation. Hopefully also it will be a step towards tempering the judicial creativity which has been rightly criticised for usurping Parliment’s authority.
