While National and New Zealand First have made it clear they’re leaving their junior coalition partner in the dust when it comes to the second reading, Ngarewa-Packer said even allowing it to be tabled is a “deep shame”.
“We deserve better than to be used as political pawns.
“The fact that National has decided that we were tradeable and the mana of the coalition agreement was so much more important than the mana of Te Tiriti and tāngata is the deepest betrayal that we’ve ever had from a National government.
“We’re a country that had the first women’s vote, we have always punched above our weight in the anti-nuclear space, the anti-discrimination space, and here we are in 2024 with the sort of [Donald] Trump-like culture coming into our politics,” she said.

No mention is made of six years of Ardern who allowed Maori to be an ethnicity elevated above all others, Aryanism – a distinct and superior racial group, pandering to aspirations (which are now facing the reality of being reigned in), while doing little to lift the Maori who really needed to be elevated from depressive conditions – those who still fill many, if not most, of the lowest social statistics in the nation.

Now a movement drawn by a sense of unity, boosted to a degree by the experience itself, descends on Parliament to rail against the Government’s right to govern, the protection of property, and the responsibilities and rights all New Zealanders should hold equally.

And the take-away Te Pāti Māori co-leader Debbie Ngarewa-Packer offers – after millions around the world watched a viral war dance and thousands marched from Cape Reinga in what some have coined the “biggest protest in living memory” – is “the deepest betrayal that we’ve ever had from a National government.”

And many will go away with nothing achieved but the self-fulfilled prophesy of Debbie Ngarewa-Packer.

  I am 100% convinced that the absolute worst thing you can do to improve someone’s life is to tell them they are special and that they deserve hand outs.
  
  I had an Aunt who dug through our family tree and was convinced we had some connection to British royalty in the 1500s or so. Therefore our family was royal. Therefore we should not work and should be surrounded by people to do the work (cook, housekeeper etc).

    Possibly even worse than telling kids that they’re special is telling them that they are victims and need assistance to succeed in life. This is Maoridom’s greatest curse in my view. They are not inherently inferior and are perfectly capable of succeeding without special treatment. To tell kids otherwise is child abuse.

    (said about someone who has been given a small amount of power or freedom to do something, and then has tried to get a lot more).
    
    Maori or rather the activists (including those in law, university, schools, public service etc) will keep on their path to get more or the Govt can put a break on it. It would take someone with the fortitude of Trump to do it, I doubt NZ would ever have a person like that in power.

  Only three years ago the Ministry of Justice issued a report on the Pae Ora (Healthy Futures) Bill in which it declared that because Maori were “Treaty Partners”, discrimination in their favour and against people without Maori ancestry could not be regarded as a breach of the Bill of Rights Act 1990. This was about the provision of healthcare, to which all New Zealanders should have equal access. Such chicanery, and there are many other instances, is why I strongly support the thrust of David Seymour’s bill when it comes to equal rights, and accordingly so despise Luxon.

  That silly woman said repeatedly that Parliament is not the place for debating the Treaty of Waitangi.

Michael Laws yesterday explained the Nat/NZFirst policy on the treaty.

Apparently it could be far more detrimental to the activists than Seymour’s bill (even if it had a chance of passing) !

They are continually removing references to the treaty from legislation.

The Save the Tamihere Gravy Train hikoi have picked the wrong target.

  That’s what I have been saying, the government has started removing g the treaty from law, in the end it gives the very same result as the TPB sets out to do, this is sneaking in under the guise of TPB and no leftie is noticing, it may well be planned that way

  There are two ways of addressing the cancer of treaty principles that has been invading our legislation. One way is to go through piece by piece cutting it out. The danger is that our judiciary and bureaucracy will fill the gap with their own interpretation. Seymour’s is the trojan horse approach – let the separatists/apologists put reference to the principles of the tow into all their mission statements /legislation and then define the principles once and for all the way they should be.

  Many hikoi-ers parking out front, so far none have bothered to pay at the parking machine, it will be interesting to see if there are any tickets issued today.

  I flew from Auckland to Wellington yesterday afternoon. There we loads of people flying to the capital who looked protest-ready: flags, poi, anti-Seymour signs (oversized, should never have been allowed in the cabin). The woman across the aircraft aisle from me was protest-ready, including Gucci sneakers and an exotic watch.

Mika and Joe, cohosts of the MSNBC news show, Morning Joe, just met with Donald Trump. That’s big news because Mika and Joe have been the most vociferous critics of Trump in all of cable news. And that says a lot!
According to CNN –

      They’ve already said they want Maori sovereignty , whatever that involves .And therein lies the responsibility of the Establishment for allowing this thing to get so out of hand over the last some 50 years , with the re awakening of the whole grievance industry , first by Labour and now more and more radicalised by the extremist Maori party , but within mainstream Labour itself with their advocating of co governance.         Does it mean a separate government with all that comes with it? A separate set of laws? A separate finance and tax system?
        
        What is to happen to the “other” 85% of NZ population? Is it also to be governed by its own separate authority?
        
        How are both sides going to interact? How are potential conflicts going to be resolved?
        
        Etc. etc. etc…

Thousands fewer families getting support as unemployment rises – Herald yesterday

Two advocates for those on lower incomes, essentially that beneficiary families get an increase so they get the same income top up as working families. That’s the carefully curated message, despite numbers and reasons, mostly rather vague.

Note that the article refers to tax credit support (aka money) which is available to all families regardless of employment status, provided they meet the criteria. It’s just that the criteria differ depending on household hours of work.

Auckland University Associate Professor Susan St John …. said the Family Tax Credit, a credit received by all families below a certain income, whether they work or receive a benefit, should be increased and the IWTC abolished.

The In Work Tax Credit (IWRC) was designed to support families where the caregiver/s get up in the morning and head out to a job. An incentive. Isn’t that a good thing? Susan St John and Ricardo Menendez-March don’t think so. Seems they prefer incentives to stay on the sofa. Not sure they are reading the room, but this article by a usually open minded journalist only really includes the barely hidden swipes at the current government from the two interviewed.

If Labour still don’t care about this now, wait until the next election when voters reject the thought of a Labour/TPM/Green coalition!

I wonder what it was that brought about the end of the ice age 10 000 years ago and why our politicians think that impoverishing ourselves now , de industrialising ,transferring tens of millions of dollars to third world countries will create a new ice age cos that’s what they’re claiming they can do.

Instead of debating the Treaty principles is there a need to explain the economics?
Every payout means that twenty percent of the people receive money from the remaining eighty percent.
The twenty percent then use their asset to receive payments from the eighty percent for use of their asset.
This is money that doesn’t go towards infrastructure, education, welfare, education.
And this is before we consider the justification for those who are partly Maori.

I’ve seen on several online news sites that millions and millions have viewed the video of a haka in our parliament. The perpetrators of this offence against parliamentary protocols believe viewing equals approving, and are pretty pleased with their efforts.
I reckon a video of two trains crashing into each other would attract as many, or more, views but that doesn’t mean people are happy about it happening.

  And Rachael Gunn (aka Raygun) has been trying to live it down ever since.
  
  Apparently 15.17 BILLION people have watched the “Baby Shark Dance”, and 4.85 BILLION people have watched “Axel F by Crazy Frog”.

There is a stream of AI that I find very interesting: embedding it into small devices and control systems.
This is something I have been studying on and off since the 1980s.

While much of this is technically impressive, the accuracy often isn’t really good enough for real world deployment and the use cases end up being rather contrived.

For example, I recently saw a device that can detect the sound of a dog barking. They were trying to promote this as a worker safety device.

Do you really need some device in your pocket to vibrate and tell you that there is a dog barking?

Now don’t get me wrong, being able to identify the sound of a dog barking vs, say, the sound of a lawn mower or a person talking, is technically impressive.

It’s also completely useless.

Oh dear, the pearl clutchers think that a statistical question that mentions rectum and sexual organs might be “triggering” for sexual assault victims.

I can relate to this terrible harm. At age 5, I was attacked by a turkey. When I was 17, I was traumatised having to answer a maths question about turkeys.

FFS: If they’d left the rectum and reproductive organs out, but still left in lungs then what about all the kids traumatised because their granny died of lung cancer the previous year?
