    I had this conversation with Seymour a couple of months back at a ACT event… he said (in short) Nuke is a great option but political suicide for any politician until there are sufficient people to support it (and vote for a supportive politician ) … currently its a polarising topic that can only be a loser for a party like National.
    
    Want nuclear??…then start an educational group that supports it.

      The majority of Aussies were opposed to nuclear a couple of years ago. Then Dutton looked at the evidence and argued for nuclear. His arguments were sound and supported by experts. Now 60% of Aussies support nuclear power and Dutton named 7 locations where nuclear is going. I cannot imagine Luxon doing anything similar.

Those that hold nuclear as almost satanic will continue to make excuses for choosing unreliable wind and solar.   Grunter: I happen to live on one of those Pacific atolls – and one of my clients is the Tonga Ports Authority, which has been monitoring sea levels for more than 20 years.
  
  When I last checked, the average sea level – it varies from year to year – is 3mm greater than it was 20 years ago. Whether that is because sea levels are rising or the Island itself is slumping for some reason is unknown.

Simplicity KiwiSaver are getting into apartment building, big time. The ones they’ve developed to date are three story; but the ones to come are eight story. The artist’s impression looks just a little Stalinist in architecture; still, that may appeal to prospective tenants.

I can see the Build to Rent Remuera property being popular with people wanting to get their kids into the Grammar zones. Those schools should be planning for influx.

  Resido, new build-to-rent complex near Sylvia Park up and running. Studio apartments $630 pw. Amenities differ of course but that’s well above usual studio apartment rent. And a recent report from Trademe that rental vacancies are ‘skyrocketing’.
  
  While BTR complexes are for renters, some may be surprised to find the management and occupiers not at all tolerant of antisocial behaviour, rent arrears or damage.

    And how did they measure the cow farts back then?
    
    Do the graphs show a spike in production every time there was a world fair, with people steaming from all over the world? No.

    No they are correct. 6kg/m² means in the column above each meter squared of the earths surface there is a total of 6kg of Co2 in the roughly 10000kg of air.
    
    And at standard sea level conditions of 101325Pa and 15°C air has a density of 1.225kg/m³

    Without reading the study, in context it may be correct. If you are looking at the influence of CO2 on radiative forcing, then radiative forcing is measured in W/m² – i.e. an area-based measurement. What they may be saying is that if you take a 1 m² area and extend that as a rectangular prism from the ground to the top of the atmosphere (~10,000,000m?), the mass of atmosphere contained within this would include 6kg of CO2.
    
    This makes sense, because radiative forcing doesn’t depend on what the composition of 1m³ of atmosphere is; it depends on the composition of the entire stack.

    Although he is right, climate change is taking a huge toll on youths mental health. Some youth have been taught to believe the end of world if coming, they’ve been left scared and hopeless by teachers, social media influencers, msm, politicians, little annoying girls who travel the world hyping it up. It’s a mental health issue that needs addressing. Good on Mike, unlike many he actually gets out there and tries to make a difference and help those with mental health problems.

    I went to the event in Hamilton yesterday. Mike is a good guy and gave me the mike after and I told him and the audience including the mayor that while humans may cause a little warming there is no climate emergency. I also said that politicians including Luxon are responsible for the mental health of these young people who are distressed over climate alarmism.

  It has been calculated that CO2 levels increase at the rate of 0.7% of the increase in CO2 emissions.
  
  All due to the feedback loop of more CO2 uptake in plants with greater CO2 concentrations.
  
  And at 415ppm plant CO2>O2 efficiency is low compared to the rate at which plants convert CO2>O2 at 1200ppm CO2. Which is the sweet spot.
  
  This can be compared to the sweet spot of MPG in a car. MPG efficiency peaks at around 50 – 60 MPG (depending on car make/model and temperature) and drops off due to air pressure.
  
  Granted, always good to reduce CO2 emissions / air pollution, but not when doing so kills people.
  The climate change evangalists is like driving with your Mother-In-Law in the back seat screaming every time you exceed 40km/hr on the open road “Slow done Albert, going faster uses more fuel.”
  “Well of course it does you old bat, but at an increased efficiency.”
  
  Most stats have been cooked in nay case.
  
  Supposedly scientists have time machines and can go back in time and measure CO2 emissions before the time of Christ. But they fail to mention if these were net or gross emissions.

  Its difficult to believe CO2 has any affect at all on atmospheric temperature.
  It is much more dense(1.9kg/m3) than air(1.2kg/m3), therefore the chances of it being an appreciable distance above the ground and able to enhance the water vapour thermal blanket is extremely unlikely.

  I am not a scientist, but I have heard this argument on and off for the last two decades.
  
  IIRC it is bunk. It misunderstands how the radiative forcing effect of co2 works. When heat radiates from the earth, it passes through successive layers of the atmosphere. These layers become thinner and thinner until the heat just passes right through back into space. It is these upper layers that are affected by relatively small increases in co2. This study did not replicate those effects, at least on a browse through.
  
  I am never part of the “science is settled” crowd, but I would not get carried away about this study. It is nothing new I was reading that stuff in 2002.

    I like randomisation of data better.
    However there are now very safe roads from Warkworth to Cambridge and Wellington almost to Levin. So National’s policies are having an impact.

This is an interesting interview on the Leighton Smith podcast with Patrick Bashim. From 54 minutes he explains how Wokeism and Political Correctness arose in America and spread to other countries including NZ. Basically after WW2 people’s wealth increased, in the 80’s and 90’s Capitalism became a problem in that what do you do next if you are living comfortably? Intellectuals in general started coming up with wacky ideas eg the planet dying, social justice etc. There maybe a major shift needed to change this trajectory like a war or did COVID in a way change peoples view of how governments control and influence people’s life.

Morning all – while waiting at the traffic lights this morning where Lambton Quay morphs into Molesworth St, I couldn’t help but notice a long line of vehicles stretching out beyond the cenotaph to Bolton St. I was wondering what the cause of all the traffic was when all of a sudden I looked to the right …

What on earth has happened to Molesworth St? Instead of the easily comprehensible two-lane arrangement with car parks on either side, the street has become a chaotic arrangement of cycleways, car parks sitting out in the middle of the road (by the High Court), and a bus lane with standard traffic reduced to just a single lane.

In other words, Molesworth St has become a total mess – and all it seems to have done is just clog up the streets of Wellington with more traffic. And of course I didn’t see a cyclist anywhere.

If this is what Tory has planned for us with the “Golden Mile” then Wellington is in serious trouble.

  Going all the way back to the Island Bay cycleway fiasco, all this destruction is fueled by these folk having a hatred of cars. Julie Anne Genter and the Wellington mayor are the best examples. The chaos in Molesworth Street is not a side effect. That is their intention.

This is good, the cops are moonlighting as event planners again- another gathering of a criminal gang having a day out on the back of a funeral.

The NZ Gang Event Planner Association (formerly NZ police) have advised the law abiding citizens, who pay their wages, to expect disruption and “plan accordingly”. Which is meaningless as they haven’t published their Event Schedule.

How about the criminal gang expect disruption and police enforce the law.
