    Yep Ben, I’m not sure you can conflate kindness to leaving a country in an overall worse state when you finished, to when you started. New Zealand, as a country, and every single one of the people in it, is poorer for her contribution. When I say “poorer”, that is not just in terms of wealth. The country is more divided, more polarised, less community minded and less educated among other things. Maybe her family can find some redeeming feature of her tenure. Most fast-track panellists picked by ministers, political parties

“Most members of the fast-track independent advisory group were put forward by ministers and political parties, not government agencies….. Government agencies put forward a list of 14 names for consideration. Twelve of the 14 nominees were rejected.”

Well known advocates of independence and following the science, Green Party and Aotearoa 350, not happy that only 2 of the 14 agency nominees were selected. Of course there are only 6 members of the panel so most nominees from agencies were going to be rejected anyway.

I wonder if the requirement to be ‘independent’ might have been an assessment factor resulting in only 2 agency nominees being selected. Ministers will never say publicly but they could mention they chose the best people for the job. And leave that for the other 12 agency nominees to ponder.

Tana should refuse to recognize the authority used to have her removed. Dropping a few random Maori words will also help.

The Gweens are removing the person Tana from parliament. But not the individual who is also known as Tana who has the added protection of They/Them. Also the settlor and agent of They/Them Tana has been overlooked by the Gweens.

The sovereign citizen individual known as Tana has outflanked the Gweens. The speaker will have no option the individual, agent and settlor known as Tana will get to stay on.

Brilliant! Why was this not done from day one?
Even topping up the Hop card with a credit card online is not instant – that is how good they are. Never underestimate the incompetence of Auckland Transport.

  This was not done from day one for four main reasons:
  1) Unreliable communications prevented the use of EFTPOS in vehicles.
  2) The cost of cellular EFTPOS equipment was high.
  3) Having people enter PINs ect was slow.
  4) Transaction costs were high.
  
  All those have changed a lot in the last 5 to 10 years making EFTPOS in the buses a lot more feasible.

      My point is that the increase in use of Paywave has reduced the amount of time people spend entering PINs.
      
      If everyone swipes and enters a pin, taking 15 seconds each, then 5 people take well over a minute.
      
      If 4 of them switch to Paywave, taking 3 seconds each, then that massively speeds up the operation.

    It is ridiculous that this costs $1.5bn
    
    There are maybe 1 million people who will use this upgraded system (maybe, I think I am being rather generous here). That’s $1500 each person. Crazy.
    
    Assuming there are 2000 vehicles, that’s $750k each – more expensive than most of the vehicles.
    
    All the system should need is:
    1) Bespoke development of software and terminals: $10 – 20 million.
    2) Terminals for each vehicle: $2000. $4M for 2000 vehicles.
    3) Operating costs : cellular modem plan per vehicle, maybe $500 per vehicle per year. $1M for 2000 vehicles.
    4) Rollout/marketing etc: $1M
    5) Service/maintenance costs: $500 per year per vehicle: $1M for 2000 vehicles.
    6) Ongoing software/system maintenance: $2M
    
    So $25M once off + $4M per year. Call that $5M per year.
    Around $75M for 10 years.
    
    So somehow they manage to come up with something 20x as expensive – and they would no doubt blow that budget anyway.

  Sir Ashley needs to see the chaos in front line services at hospitals (and prob primary care too) .. winter just gone, more people were admitted to NZ hospitals with rsv/influenza than the total number of patients with Covid since ?2018 (can’t remember when Covie first kicked off) …. And the government didn’t shut down the health service/country to protect everyone from the flu. I’m surprised the country wasn’t locked down for monkey pox!

I just don’t understand this assertion.

The National Bowel Screening Programme is failing to deliver screening equitably to Pacific New Zealanders…

The test kits are sent to you in the mail, without you having to do anything.

Bowel screening is available to Māori and Pacific people from the age of 50 to 74. A higher proportion of bowel cancer occurs in Māori and Pacific people before they reach 60 (approximately 21% compared to 10% for non-Māori non-Pacific peoples).

They fail to say that for others, bowl screening starts at 60. So Tongans get sent the kits a full ten years, five tests, before me.

Many Tongans die unnecessarily from bowel cancer because the programme, while available, isn’t accessible to them.

Not accessible? How is it not accessible? The kits turn up in the mail. It’s then down to you whether or not the screening test happens.

Are authorities really convinced by this bullshit?

This government has lost control of the justice system, yet, they will not admit it.

Exhibit 1: Luxon’s train wreck interview on ZB regarding the Solicitor Generals advice to prosecute Maori differently. Prosecutors will be giving Maori who commit serious crime a break. Non-maori committing the same crime will be treated more harshly by the judiciary.

The solicitor general sets the policy, and go easy on the Maori is now an official policy and is in writing.

Exhibit 2: Judith Collins has distanced herself from this issue. Collins claims the law must not discriminate on ethnicity but at the same time she is powerless to discipline the solicitor general who is ordering prosecutors to discriminate on ethnicity.

Who runs this country? The democratic government or the Solicitor general? At this stage, it is the Solicitor General as apparently the government has absolutely no authority over her!!

One more thing, the solicitor general is taking advice from Andrew Little’s Maori advocacy committee which stated their goal is to decolonise the ‘injustice’ system. This Andrew Little goon squad is controlling the country.

The decay began in 2010 when Wellington voted out the last in a long run of capable mayors and perversely allowed itself to be persuaded its future lay with a Greenie blow-in from Britain. Three more useless mayors and Left-dominated councils later, the city has become so terminally dysfunctional that government intervention looks both likely and necessary.

  One of those mayors, Celia Wade-Brown, in now a Green MP. Another, Andy Foster, is a NZ First MP.
  Both are British immigrants
  The other mayor was Justin Lester, Labour.
  The current mayor, Tory Whanau, Greens, displaced Foster who after years of earnest work as a councilor didn’t cut the mustard as mayor.

    What’s the big deal about their country of birth? One assumes they are NZ citizens and never made any secret of their views. Elected by the voters and all that. I forget what they call that sort of system …
    
    If you want to change this stuff I guess you have to get involved in campaigning and the like rather than just rant on Kiwiblog. Get out the vote etc.

I remember when

So 8% of those polled think that New Zealand should change its name to Aotearoa.
However, at least 92% of journalists seem to think we are Aotearoa.

    Might have been better is Sri Lanka had Henry played but, the batting was the main problem there.
    
    Mind you better application in the batting has got us into a good position – if they can get through to lunch today with only a couple of wickets lost 400 could be enough for a win.
    
    Great catching yesterday and a juicy pitch helped a lot.

I see Caltech has some Iranian-American students working on some pretty sophisticated control systems for drones etc.

I wonder how much of this tech is finding its way home to helping out the Iranian missile/drone programme?

  I noticed one chap, Moray Gharib who was born in Iran and has this education B.S., Teheran University, 1976; M.S., Syracuse University, 1978; Ph.D., Caltech, 1983.

It is exactly the same as Maori taking a treaty claim to the Tribunal because they were discriminated against in the covid vaccine roll out. Insane. Any Maori individual in 2021 or 2022 just had to pick up the phone and say they wanted the covid vaccine. If they were isolated or had no transport, the authorities would fix it. That is how much money was poured in to local Maori health providers. Where did all that money go? IIRC it was about 200 million dollars.
