    The Ministry of Education is run by a feminist cadre who will do every and any thing to protect what they want and get.
    It was overheard early on about the new elected coalition Government Minister of Education – “What does she know about Education that we do not”. This was at a very at a senior level.
    The fact that this does immense damage to our Country for many years to them is irrelevant.
    I am told from within that you step out of line in this chain of thought and you are finished.
    It is the toughest Maori prone regime in Government today, and it is suggested that the previous CEO Peter Hughes was quietly phase over when he was there. He was appointed head of Public Services Commission but retired early late last year.
    However I am told it may be exceeded by the Ministry of Social Development (who are almost three times the size).
    As this has been going and developing under successive growth for very many years increasing its powers exponentially.
    It is impossible to reign either in as to when you look at their top tier managements.
    I am sure there are other Departments similarly encompassed ensuring that no Government even Labour, as we have seen over recent years, can control.

      Guess who was CE of MSD before he went on to Education? Peter Hughes.
      
      There was a CE imported from the UK who seemed quite smart. However Hekia Parata hated her and had her effectively sacked after a short time. Peter Hughes was then appointed. My observation is that he ruled his second tier managers with an iron fist, Nobody stepped out of line. The worst thing you could do is get the Ministry mentioned unfavourably in the media.
      
      I have no doubt that the ony solution is to abolish the organisation and start again. I would suggest that those who think that is hyperbolic have never dealt with them.

So where is all the material resulting from the consultation Jackson did do.
The material which he did not take to Cabinet because he himself was unhappy with 20 percent of it, and had sent that back for a rewrite.
Where is all that material? Do Winston Peters and David Seymour have access to it? Why don’t we?
On what shelf does it all sit?

  The leftist Herald in their Facebook feed has a constant parade of what I’d call ‘padding’ stories about Hollywood or Royal ‘celebs’, advice stories about what vegetables to eat or how to clip your toenails, and other guff and nonsense…..and then in between those they run their ‘OneRoof’ advertarticles for the property industry (‘Bob sold his house for $3 million’ and variations on that theme) and loads of stories – many from RNZ – attacking the government on behalf of the PSA and CTU. I’ve noted that many of these stories are based on unsubstantiated claims made to the Unions by ‘staff’ or ‘sources’, and then the Labour spokesperson will also make extensive comment….infrequently the accused department, usually Health NZ, will get a right of reply – essentially it seems to be along the lines of ‘we don’t know what the Union is talking about’.

    Not just the Herald: as an old bugger I am often awake throughout the night, and sometimes listen to NewstalkZB : the overnight “news” programs are invariably presented with an anti-government slant, sometime subtle, sometimes overt.
    It is not uncommon for the entire “news” to consist of 3 or 4 such items, no overseas news etc. There are many items for which no source is given, just some vague “studies show” or “most NZrs think” sort of thing.

I see National are considering opening up a new revenue stream for councils – congestion charging. Bad idea. We won’t get better roads from it. Instead we will have more years of large salary increases for council staff, now they are approaching the limit of what can be funded with massive rates increases.

    Briefly, as a retired Insurance waller of over 40 years Insurance Costs only rise due to the payment of Claims, for which they are there for.
    Do they make a profit each and every year ? –
    I could go very much wider but it is Tuesday morning.
    Think these main things
    Claims Payments and outstanding provisions
    Staff – currently difficult to find.
    (Wholesale) Reinsurance Costs- Overseas.
    Investment returns whilst you have premiums on route to paying claims. Low returns over recent years.
    Remember the Christchurch Overseas Reinsurers have not seen a balance yet – and other large claims have followed.
    Actually being an Insurance Company to day is fraught with problems.

      When Coldplay toured a year or so back they were very conscious of carbon emissions so when they did the Aussie leg, they only went to Perth as that was the closest city to their previous venue. The problem was that the concert attracted 40,000 out of state visitors, all of whom would have had to consume shitloads of fossil fuels to get that far. Lots of hypocrisy from these people

    We have enough coal just in Southland to provide all of NZ’s energy needs (heating, electricity, coal to petrol,…) for ove 300 years.

  How about a shiny new coal-fired generator? Is that off the table?
  – I gather we have enough coal to last us centuries.
  – It’s reliable.
  – Modern generators are pretty clean, producing mostly life-giving water and CO2.
  – We could construct one must faster than a nuclear station (generally hampered by regulation).
  – They have a small footprint, which is preferable to the monstrous, ungreen and unreliable solar and wind factories. This means we could plonk it nearby to where we need the lectrickery.

    Thailand with a population of 70mil won one gold. I watched her win on TV, my Thai wife wasn’t interested.

– its not actually ready to use yet but will be able to run complex climate and weather models much faster at “nine thousand trillion calculations a second” – no report of the cost.

Their 3 current ones, Māui, Mahuika & Kupe, cost $23M in 2018.

When is Seymour going to deliver his bill.
Since some frustrated clown will likely initiate New Caledonian or UK rioting here, or gangs or ram-raiders see advantages in looting and chaos, the Maori Kingii uniting force (for what, not to talk, because both he and Seymour were at the opportunity of Waitangi, but didn’t) – will it not all take time to quell before any next Election, delayed or not – so will the bewildered vote in Labour again, or of fear vote Party Maori, and tribalism ensue?

Another problem is that the lever of the grenade and its fuse have to be perfectly aligned to get the pin back into the grenade. When you lose just a little pressure on your grip, the lever will move a bit and the alignment is gone. (and so most likely will be the beholder)
Therefore, the longer you keep the grenade in your hand, the more difficult it will become to reinsert the pin.

Dr Brash is a clear national hero in upholding the principle of racial equality which is currently under great threat.

In 2024 he led a campaign to raise awareness of the threat posed by Maori claims to the NZ coast under the Marine and Coastal Area Act. After the Court of Appeal relaxed the test for gaining Customary Marine Title, nearly all New Zealand’s coastline has been claimed, some parts many times over by multiple iwi.
Customary Marine Title grants many benefits of ownership including mineral rights and power of veto over developments. This overrides the great public interest in our beautiful coast. Dr Brash resists any attempt to grant special rights on racial grounds.
Parliament never intended such a great area of coast to fall under customary title and the Coalition Government intends to tighten the criteria for a claim to succeed.
On August 7, Dr Brash ran a prominent front page wraparound advertisement in the NZ Herald newspaper. The ad alerted readers to the danger posed by the multiple iwi claims on our precious coast. Critics said the ad was racist and false, without providing evidence of any factual errors. The ad drew on public, official sources for its content.
After receiving many terrible death threats and amid a massive outcry by Maori radicals and sympathisers, Dr Brash doubled down and bravely tried to run a follow-up ad on August 14. This was rejected by the cowardly NZ Herald following threats by The Maori Party and others with an interest in enriching iwi.
With his selfless stand against the iwi attempt to seize our coast, Dr Brash has made himself a target of intimidating racist protesters and become one of the most hated public figures. Many of his critics have gained greatly from unfair policies favouring Maori. In my opinion his values and actions are on the side of justice and racial equality, yet his campaigning puts him at great risk.
I hope the award of New Zealander of the Year will recognise his effort.

Been a bit of talk about nuclear power in New Zealand and how it won’t happen. I think I’ve seen some argue that our nuclear free legislation prevents it.

So I took a look at the legislation.

It’s clear from the legislation that it seeks to prevent nuclear and biological weapons from our territory. S11 also prevents visits by nuclear powered ships.

So it is clear that there is no legislative block to establishing a nuclear power station here.

As an aside, i noticed that the establishment of the South Pacific Nuclear Free Zone (Schedule 1) includes Australia. Which led me to think about AUKUS and those submarines, which are Virginia class, which are nuclear powered.

This reinforces to me that the South Pacific Nuclear Free Zone is about weapons, not power or propulsion (except for NZ).

For all of Muldoon’s faults, thank goodness he built those hydro projects back in the day. We need, again, some leadership to think about our energy security.

  A nuclear power station on the Kaipara Harbour was planned and design was underway in the mid-1960’s.
  Work stopped after the Maui gas field was discovered in 1969. Electricity generation was seen as the only practical use for most of the gas.
  Just think Greenies. If gas exploration and development had been banned in 1965 we would never have discovered the Maui field and we would have a nuclear power station running today.

    I think it would have been a disaster if NZ had attempted to develop a nuclear power station then because it would have had to be done within a host of Government edicts and bureaucratic and HR constraints. In particular the Ministry of Works would have wanted to be leading development agency as it was with the hydro stations. The project would have probably gone like the WHOOPS [play on WPPSS] nuclear projects in Washington State USA in the 1970’s.

  The main one where Rob Muldoon had real influence was Clyde. There was a ‘high dam’ option and a ‘low dam’ option. The old NZE/MWD favoured the ‘low dam’ option to get the thing through constraints and adverse public opinion but Rob Muldoon bit the bullet and committed the Government to the ‘high dam’ option which today is humming along quite happily. OK, apricot orchards were lost, but there were plenty of other places to grow apricots.

    Really? 5 minutes looking at rental prices on websites would have told them the cost of living there. Plenty of other places in New Zealand they could have based themselves with much cheaper living costs.
    
    With convictions in New Zealand they will not be allowed back.
    
    I’m not sure how the law work re their punishment. They have been sentenced to fines and community service. IIRC they need to be squared away before they are allowed to leave New Zealand.

  The same author, Philip Temple, referred to Ron Crosby’s disbelief at the Ministry of Education’s 2021 draft NZ history curriculum failing to cover the 1806-45 Musket Wars. Crosby is a barrister, Musket Wars historian and Waitangi Tribunal member who published his 430-page Musket Wars book more than 20 years ago.

  ‘Utu kept the wars going for close on 30 years until all iwi were equally musket-armed (creating a kind of early version of the MAD doctrine, mutually assured destruction).   Utu is only one aspect that makes The Forgotten Wars a difficult read. There is betrayal, treachery, needless massacre, endless cannibalism and the killing of prisoners. Te Rauparaha ordered some of his prisoners to prepare an umu, then killed and cooked them. In 1832, Tainui’s Te Wherowhero “used the famed Waikato mere, Whakarewa” to personally execute 350 captives in Taranaki.   To quote

  “white fragility” “Pākehā are “privileged” by living and working within the familiarity of the dominant system”
  
  These are all concepts directly lifted from foreigner writers like Robin de Angelo and Ibrahim X Kendi and slightly adapted to a New Zealand idiom by a Pākehā New Zealander and an honorary associate professor of sociology at the University of Auckland.
  From one point of view, it’s all sadly predictable and from another perspective it’s shockingly bold and radical. A white acolyte of a foreign ideology proselytizing New Zealanders and then having such an amazing lack of self-awareness that she can actually call it “decolonising/indigenising”.
  This dovetails rather nicely with a comment I just left at Bassett Brash & Hide under “JOHN RAINE: Ideological Illogic – Facts Not Feels, Please”.
  Where I said that if you run an indiginisation program you will become LESS indigenous than when you started and MORE under the influence of neo-colonial cultural imperialism.

Whoops, I guess this isn’t going to go down very well

The Government is significantly scaling back Te Arawhiti, the office of Māori-Crown Relations.

Sources with knowledge of the proposal told Stuff the Government was “effectively closing” the department, which is the Government’s lead coordinator for iwi and Māori organisations. Māori-Crown Relations Minister Tama Potaka rejected that characterisation, when Stuff put that to his office on Tuesday.

He went on to issue a statement confirming a major restructure of Te Arawhiti, which would strip it back to deal only with negotiating Treaty settlements and administering the Marine and Coastal Area Act.

  Thanks – I recently went for a visit. That is enough for another two years. As far as I can tell, it is 25 or so communists all agreeing with each other. They are lead by a communist named “Lynn Prentice” who is male. He claims that he has amazing IT skills. He demonstrates anger management issues, and he bans people who are not communists from commenting, usually preceded by a foul mouthed bad tempered tirade.
