    That is both unnecessary and insufficient. There are three articles and none of them should be a problem:
    
    1. Government by the Crown
    2. Property rights protected
    3. Equal rights for all NZers
    
    The simplest path is to do what ACT is already trying to do: clarify the above as the meaning so there is no doubt.
    
    But we need better judges as well. With or without the treaty, leftist judges will divide people based on race at the slightest excuse, as they have done in other countries with no such treaty.

      The Waitangi Tribunal needs to honour the real Treaty, not the rogue James Freeman version they are using. The Littlewood Draft is the real English Treaty as is the one written in Maori. NZ has been extorted since 1975.

      Point One should be accompanied by an affirmation that the Treaty of Waitangi was a simple cession of sovereignty. Now that the Waitangi Tribunal is openly supporting the false claims of certain Iwi that sovereignty was never ceded, it is especially important to establish the contrary as a matter of law.
      
      Nothing is more dangerous than the claim that the Crown is not the ultimate authority in the New Zealand. The argument leads inexorably to the assertion of sovereign power by Iwi and Hapu over lands they hold now and any others they claim they never lawfully parted with. Overt agitation for ‘autonomous areas’ of this kind would likely have begun in earnest this year or next if the Labour party had managed to stay in power, and will certainly commence again if they are able to return.

      While the treaty exists, we will have a whole grift industry that continues to hold on to it:
      * The Waitangi Tribunal.
      * Maori roll and Maori seats.
      * Special leg-ups for Maori in academia, government etc.

      The first article is a problem,
      “1. Government by the Crown’
      It either means nothing at all or what it means is stupid and dangerous.
      The Government is the Government, and it is the Government because it governs, there is no way around that.
      If The Government is The Government BECAUSE of some article in some declaration or constitution, then whoever or whatever made that declaration or constitution is The Government, they can just change it and Poof! The Government, The Crown, The Sovereign or whatever is gone. This is why it is written that no Parliament can bind a subsequent Parliament.
      The modern philosopher Nick Land has written on this very point in a short essay called “The Odysseus Problem”. The title is in reference to the ancient myth were Odysseus orders his crew to tie him to the mast so he can hear the beautiful song of the Sirens. He orders his men not to untie him but when he hears the Siren’s song, he orders them to untie him.
      So, can Sovereignty bind itself?
      Nick Land (and Curtis Yarvin) say No. Anything that can bind Sovereignty is itself Sovereignty. I would add that anything that can declare Sovereignty is itself true Sovereignty and can also abolish the current nominal Sovreign.
      That is the dangerous part.
      Anyway, you should try to read “The Odysseus Problem”, it’s in Nick Land’s “Xenosystem Fragments” collection.

I listened to Key on Hosk this morning finally outlining The Nats thinking on race relations and the Treaty. At least he is finally being honest. Their Labour Lite view is that “you can not codify the Treaty” and it needs to move with the times and be adapted to the latest thinking!!!!

What a load of woke BS!

But at least we now know what Luxon is thinking – it just took Key to explain it to us.

  Yes I agree. They do nohave to codify the treaty. That is just silly speech. The TOW will sit as it is forever.
  What can be codified into law is waht Seymours bill is talking about and that is defining the principles and then codifying them so that they can be applied equally to all New Zealanders and not manipulated, argued over, changed as narrative decides etc.
  Luxon needs to have a look at what happenes to civil countrys when any group is treat as seperate or special using taxpayer funds…..outcomes are never pretty.

  Key is part of the corporate elite, part of the banking – property industry cabal, and he’s shown up at the conference at the behest of his fellow corporate traveller Luxon to calm the horses and tell everyone how it is going to be. He’s like old sage Gandalf turning up to have a talk to the admiring hobbits and pull them into line. So will continue to get sold down the river, public anger will continue to simmer, and will eventually boil over. The attitude of this government to the MSM and public service elite and Maori elite is most telling: everything from fawning supplication to turning a blind eye to – in the case of the MSM – actively looking to bail them out of the mess they are in. When the politicians who are supposed to be on their voters side are aligning themselves with those who stand against us, what else can it be but a betrayal?

  I know there are some good people in the Nats, but the party is fully onboard with treaty “partnership” narrative i.e. co-governance.
  
  If you want things to change for the better, don’t party-vote National at the next election. Give your party vote to ACT or NZF. And NO, I’m not a member of either of those two parties, and neither do I agree with all of their respective policies. I’m just advocating for a lesser evil.

        Actually G, I believe NZF prevented Little from removing 3 Strikes, and it was only after the election of fools by fools in 2020 that 3 Strikes was thrown out.
        Not to say I’m not angry at NZF for supporting Clark’s government, then anointing Ardern.

  Look at how hard it is to change the Australian Constitution. The current Australian government tried to get the constitution to “move with the times” with the “Voice”. The Australian people said take a hike.

Luxon is the corporate gatekeeper, there to continue the maorification and drift left but do it quietly so the retail banks and property industry can keep making $$$$.       We are seeing how vulnerable New Zealand is without a written constitution that can only be changed by referendum.
      
      In the case of Australia, such proposed changes have, IIRC succeeded 7 in 42 attempts by governments. They
      amendments approved in referendums were all uncontroversial.
      
      The Australian people have indicated over 123 years that they do not want governments making radical changes to the way they are governed. Yet in New Zealand we get a bunch of politicians lecturing the people that they are in “a partnership” with one ethnic group.

    Keys comparison to Gun laws in the US was ridiculous and he likely knows it. He is a smart man. To me it sounded like he was being rolled out to prepare us for National killing the bill, regardless of whatever the bill is.
    
    I dont think its so much Luxon agreeing with Key but more Key being rolled out to bring people over to Luxons way of thinking.

        I personally don’t believe that Key agrees with Nationals stance, thus the poor analogy to Gun law. That said Key always avoided any issue that might harm Nationals popularity and so perhaps he is on board with not rocking the boat here too.

        I really liked Key however looking back I see a number of missed opportunities. You could argue that not rocking the boat gave them 9yrs and thus they could implment many good policies. I’m no longer 100% sure this is the right way to go. Major NZ issues need to be dealt with and I would rather it the right then a future left wing government.

    Key is a wealthy urban liberal, there’s no way pandering to racial activists is going to harm him, it earns him virtue points amongst his peer group. He doesn’t need to be over a barrel.
    The people who feel threatened by racial privilege laws are those whose livihoods are likely to be affected or those who fear they’ll lose access to recreation areas and are already feeling marginalised and powerless.
    Those who can fly by private jet, then helicopter to a private beach in Hawaii aren’t going to be so concerned.

    Can anyone honestly believe that this country can ever reach a consensus on the intention of this historical document.
    The treaty was written and agreed to in order to solve specific problems that existed in its day.
    
    These specific problems either no longer exist or can be dealt with today under common law.
    
    Therefore the treaty is no longer relevant.

  If the Treaty needs to move with the times then the words on the Treaty really have no meaning at all. They can’t mean we’re in a partnership in one century and not in a partnership in another – that’s just nonsense.

The court of appeal once, absurdly, described it as a partnership between races, but it obviously is not. I get it. The abuse in state care was reprehensible. A large number of those kids in state care were and are Maori.

But if Ngapuhi want fewer kids in state care, then Ngapuhi needs to use their own resources in order to help and protect those parents before their kids need to be removed into state care.

No one funds European families “around enabling us to be responsible for our own solutions”. Or Asian families. Or any families. We all have to do what we can ourselves.

Ngapuhi need to look at themselves and ask why so many Ngapuhi children are at risk. Solve that problem, and the other goes away

I invite comment on something I believe I’m seeing more and more of in NZ – university studies which appear to consist purely of interviewing a few people and then presenting their opinions as fact. This often involves the ‘facts’ being findings of racism. I’ve seen it quite a few times in the last 5-10 years.

One of the obvious flaws I see is that other people, those in positions of influence or authority over the interviewees, were not also canvassed for their views.

Or, “The reason Mrs Sharma didn’t get that role is she came back from lunch each day wobbly and stinking of wine and would often fall asleep at her desk.”

How can this researcher present as fact that which are purely personal opinions or anecdotes and without getting all sides of a story?

Is this what passes as well-researched peer-reviewed studies these days?

Perhaps folk close to tertiary education can enlighten me.

    After I had got a science degree that got me a good job, I went back to university to study part time, while working full time, paying full fees, no student loan, to study for a B.A. (therefore Humanities) in History, because I was interested in History. It made me feel good, because I liked History. So it was a feel good degree. That is why I give it a capital letter. But I didn’t need it, nor want it to get me a job.
    
    Now you might think I am going to criticise you for calling my B.A. a “feel good” degree, but I will not.
    
    You are spot on.
    
    A few years after I graduated I heard the history department had been closed down. At the time I was confused but now I know it was because they had been teaching” European History”. You know, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome. Medieval European History. So, these are like “White Supremacy” subjects. They are no longer acceptable.
    
    It is no longer acceptable to consider these subjects to be worthy of interest.

  It’s quite common in the “social studies” to base research on multi-question questionnaires. The answers are then collated and analysed using statistical methods. But to have any value all results have to be classed as perceptions, which later need to be validated. If a researcher is honest, this is actually quite useful method, providing the research is approached with an open mind rather that with preconceived ideas. Unfortunately, the latter attitude appears to dominate, and, as is well known, it’s quite easy to manipulate the statistics and therefore the results. Much depends on how the questions are formulated and structured; they should not be designed in such a way as to elicit the desired answers.
  As for peer review…well, let’s say that the system is not as infallible as some claim.

Where are the tougher sentences for violent criminal scumbags? A security guard has been brutally smashed in the head with a hammer while defending a jewellery store.

‘A security guard has been bashed in the head by armed assailants during a thwarted aggravated robbery at a Mount Roskill jewellery store. A police spokeswoman said officers received reports of the attempted robbery at a business on Stoddard Rd just after 4pm. “A group of four or five offenders approached the store with weapons, not firearms, and were challenged by a security guard, who they subsequently assaulted,” she said.

A hammer to the head has the potential to kill.

We need much tougher prison sentences, not home D, community service, boot camp, or a slap on the wrist with a wet bus ticket. Come on government, step up! We were promised change.

On Friday (I think) there was discussion in the media around 70% plus discounted sentences for some major meth dealers. In at least one case a year was removed from the sentence becuase the convicted woman had been on bail for a year.

I understand someone having their sentence reduced for time served but not for time on bail. Is this just piss poor reporting from the media and it really was time served or do our judges treat time on bail as time served?

Can someone with knowledge of then law confirm / explain this.

  It would depend on the bail terms. If it was simple bail – i.e. no terms imposed – then the fact of being on bail pending sentence would not be a discounting factor. If the bail was EM (electronically monitored) and the defendant was confined to an address, then this might be a discounting factor as it would be seen as the equivalent of a sentence of Home Detention. As with all things, it depends. You should be very slow to draw conclusions about a case on the basis of what is reported in mainstream or social media.

Not sure if I exactly understand what ‘Sir Keith Starmer’ is saying here in reference to the violent riots happening in the UK?

But when he sez…. “It doesn’t matter what the motivation is”, surely he can’t be referring to the room full of little girls who were attacked by the 17 year old Rawandan ‘boy’ with a machete, killing 3 and wounding 9 🙁

  It doesn’t matter what the motivation is. If these people cared at all about the children they would be respecting the parents wishes and that is to stop this. But sadly some people, you included were more interested in spreading false information about who the kid was, their religion and where they were from than waiting for facts.

    ‘People’ should respect the parents wishes but where were your words about the Muslims who were rioting in Yorkshire just a couple of weeks ago? In any case, I don’t think you get it: the murder of the 3 girls is the spark that lit the powder of keg of simmering resentment and frustration at the establishment. The people don’t feel they have been listened to and they don’t see any benefit at all from so-called ‘diversity’. Mass immigration continues apace and they are fed up to the back teeth with it. They will not be talked down to by Starmer or anyone else.

      The false information that people were spreading started this, then that lead to the muslim community going out and rioting, and now they have a huge mess and a lot of people who would rather riot than respect the wishes of the parents and the memories of the 3 girls. There is no justification for what is going on right now. There is no justification for attacking your neighbours, burnings houses and cars.
      
      I have no idea what went on in Yorkshire, nor do I care.

        Police couldn’t. He was 17 so police had no ability to release his information. What they did say was the name and information was not correct. That should be enough, but people kept pushing the false information, even on this blog. Only the judge could release that information and he did

        Actually I don’t care because from July my focus goes completely on celebrating my little brother before his 14th anniversary since he was killed by a speeding driver in 2 days.
        
        You can’t admit that just as with the stabbings in the Australia mall you sat here the other day pushing out false information because you couldn’t be bothered waiting for facts, and still when police were saying the next day the name was wrong and he was born in Wales you kept pushing out false information.

  Greybeard, I have been on this planet for over 72 years now and yet, in all that time, I have yet to ingest any ‘foodstuff’ that might cause me to set a PB – nay, a World Record – at ANY Swimming distance.
  
  Tonight it’s a Macaroni Cheese dinner at my sister’s place. Maybe I’ll get ‘lucky’ there, eh?, and ‘contamination’ will see me turning in such a surprising time reduction that the gushing Sky sports folk will yell ‘SenSATIONAL!’ and tell everyone, on their behalves, that they are ‘SO proud’ of me!

What a great call from Prime Minister Luxon on maths in schools:

” … from Term 1 next year, every child will be learning maths based on a new world-leading, knowledge rich maths curriculum – similar to countries like Singapore and Australia.

It would be good to throw in resources to support teachers, some of whom will struggle with their own skills in maths.

To help, we could use NZ’s migration appeal as a developed country. We could recruit young overseas folk skilled in both maths and teaching.

One source could be India, which has a long, ancient tradition in maths, and where more than 40 per cent of graduates under 25 are unemployed (see link below).

That unemployment number also shows what a scam are NZ universities’ study-with-immigration residency offers.

Come to NZ to study for non-existent jobs in your home country?

India as a recruitment source also appeals because of the use of English by many in that country. However, the best maths lecturer I had (many years ago) was of a Chinese academic whose English was so weak that he had to write everything on the blackboard.

I only ever watched ‘The Casketeers’ once.
Thought they were all a bit too casual the way they handled peoples funerals for my liking.

Turns out I wasn’t far off the mark…..
See where it’s being reporeted the Director of Tipene Funerals, Francis Tipene, has had to apologize to grieving clients, when it was discovered their dead relatives had been taken out of the coffin after the Service and interred in big black rubbish bags, instead of the coffins they had paid for.

Pretty sure that was the same outfit who handled Fa’anna Effeso Collins burial.

  Stuff and NZHerald are also carrying stories to the effect that Thompson’s body crossed the line first.
  
  This seems to be on the basis that the photofinish pic showed Thompsons foot to be over the line first.
  
  This ignores the rule in athletics that an athlete is adjudged to have crossed the line when his/her chest does so.
  
  In other words, we are not talking about the rule in football.

This is interesting: one swimmer “falls ill” but none of the others.
A connection is immediately made with the condition of the Seine river.
It is therefore more likely that the swimmer was affected by something entirely different.

A similar thing happened here in Queenstown a year or so ago: a few people “fell ill” after apparently drinking crap water from the city’s supply.
But out of thousands of residents they were the only ones. A very selective illness.
And it has never been disclosed as to what the real problem was with Queenstown’s water supply. The problem just “disappeared”. Which was fortunate for a place entirely dependent on tourists for its existence.

Logic would suggest that in order to bring some sort of peace and acceptance to UK society that they stop Muslim immigration immediately, they stop acceptance of “refugees” immediately, they take a very forceful response to riots etc.
