It gets on my tits that this fraudulent doctor is described as a Kiwi.

She was born in Tehran and arrived in NZ in 1986 aged 21. She studied for and failed her medical degree, after which she headed to the UK in 1995. She forged medical credentials & practiced there as a psychiatrist for nearly 30 years. She’s about 60, lived here for less than a decade and yet it’s our good name that’s dragged through the mud.

You just have to hope that the Poms don’t deport her here. If only because she’d be a shoo-in for the Greens.

  I once worked in an office where an Australian with an architectural degree was employed in some sort of interior design position.
  After a year or so someone got suspicious, did the background check that should have been done when she applied for the job and found out she didn’t have a degree at all.
  We used to send out drawings that had been checked to the nth degree, but not always the staff personnel.
  Can you show us your degree?
  Sorry the dog ate it?

From yesterday’s ‘Vegan cafe goes carnivorous’ story, but I thought that it sums up NZ since 2017:

What is with top Democrats and Marxism? This must be why they love to redefine and ban words and phrases “illegal alien” or “Islamic terrorism” that are detrimental to their cause and religion.

Harris, famously, is an extremely inauthentic person, and is, famously, a childless cat lady who, famously, was picked solely for DEI reasons, and, famously, was appointed by the sleeping man to be the border czar who, famously, did not go to the border and so, famously, illegal immigration has skyrocketed to unprecedented levels. Famously, word saladry also spikes to unprecedented levels when she speaks.

Another non-achieving Biden cabinet picked for his intersectional attributes, Secretary Mayor Pete Buttigieg, is the son of Joseph Buttigieg. Buttigieg Sr was another Marxist scholar, the president of the International Gramsci Society (which publicises the works of influential early 20th Italian-Albanian communist Antonio Gramsci) and who translated Antonio Gramsci’s prison writing into English (whilst Gramsci was imprisoned by his fellow socialists).

Such non-achievement can only have been inspired by sitting around the dinner table listening to your dad fantasise about the utopian world of Marxist policy.

Open letter to Christopher Luxon: Stop the Treaty Principles Bill

A useful list for future reference of more than 150 organisations who want a Select Committee process to be suppressed. Because maybe it is ‘constitutionally destructive’. That would be in relation to a Bill the 150+ organisations have not seen.

Suppressed? Or would that really be Oppressed.

The letter begins with this. It is the responsibility of the people in government to meet the basic standards of conventional democracy and governance. Of course those 150+ organisations thought very carefully about ‘basic democracy’ before signing. Or maybe not.

I’m still yet to learn why the British would have signed a Treaty giving Maori all the considerable rights and protections afforded to a citizen of the British Empire in exchange for nothing in return….the simple answer is they wouldn’t have.

  My letter to each of the coalition leaders today: In response to the open letter asking the PM to stop the Treaty Principles bill. Isn’t a letter from anyone asking a Prime Minister to halt public and open consultation by government unconstitutional. If this occurred for any awkward subject you might argue we wouldn’t have universal suffrage that includes women and homosexual acts would still be criminal along with any number of other legislative changes.

  It is not misleading. How can it be when it is not even finalised and made public yet. If you read the ACT proposal, it is not constitutionally destructive but rather seeks to clarify what non-elected institutions have attempted to define without any input from electors, ie. the terms “partnership” and “principles” as they might apply to the Treaty.

  RESPONSE
  On what evidence do they make the claim that many tauiwi are proud of the partnership. Can they submit their scientific survey results supporting this. In relation to destroying the foundation for the partnership, presumably between Maori and Crown, see earlier response above.

Is it a failure or obvious loophole in Winston Peters’ “waka-jumping” legislation that a List MP is not automatically barred from remaining in Parliament when they resign from being representive of that Party’s List Vote numbers, and therefore must unbalance the Election result?
The legislation or Standing Orders should be ammended.

  Pragmatically, a list member didn’t get elected to anything. They are in Parliment representing the party that put them there. Do we all agree? EG thats the only way you can be a “list” MP.
  
  So, if a List MP makes a principled stand and resigns from the party (which is no-one’s fault, not even the Romans) what is the reasonable basis on which they stay in parliament as an independent?
  
  If you leave (or are forced to resign) from the party that nominates you, you should not be allowed to walk over and join another party.
  
  IMHO your resignation from the party as a List MP should make your resignation from Parliament effective the last day you are a Party member.
  
  The only question then becomes “How are you replaced?” Given you were nominated (not elected) by the party that lost you, they should, in all fairness, I feel, get to replace you.

The Prime Minister talking to Mike Hosking this morning, referencing MFAT, HealthNZ and local Government IT projects, said IT projects should be using off-the-shelf products rather than spending yuuuge amounts on bespoke. (And include whole-life cost, including endless changes with every new manager, not just the fun part at the start.)

100% agree. The #2 question proponents should be asked is – ‘Why are your processes not industry standard?’ (The #1 question is ‘ Did you consider and cost doing nothing?’)

    Agree. Time and time again I’ve seen some salesmen come in with “off the shelf” solutions which then have to be customised for the specific use, and that customisation turns into an expensive, slow and awful maintenance exercise with the vendor.
    
    The project I’m on (for 2 more days before I retire) could never have been bought off the shelf and it has now become the go-to application to manage, errr, our customers.

    Agree, may not be OTS solutions, but the question should still be asked. It is possible only a few process changes could be needed to fit OTS (distributed) systems. If not why not?
    
    Processes get amended all the time, unfortunately mostly because the new broom wants what was the ‘absolute best’ from a previously life, aka gotta push the fuddy duddies into the 21st century and make my mark fast.

  The problem was never the software. The problem was isolated council staff whose total experience is limited to “how things are done around here”.
  
  Translate that thinking to government departments.
  “Our processes have been refined over many years by the civil service. Therefore, any change, by definition, will make it worse.
  There is no government process that can’t be improved by hiring more staff, so the root cause is actually lack of funding by this government.”

  While off the shelf is great, a lot of Govt IT does have bespoke elements that no OTS package has…
  
  The drivers: NZ Laws and the Regulations that are promulgated under those laws. These drive a lot of odd data captures and require some non standard process flows to validate applications/registrations etc etc
  
  And to be frank a lot of OTS, ‘we have your process/data needs covered and if we don’t the platform has extensible process flows/Data capture’ sales pitches are based on half truths and very close to out right lies….
  
  A simple solution is to not have the IT system in the first place – by deregulating the bloody economy so the need for a Govt system is not needed….

        And most advanced economies have large service sectors, which consume goods subject to GST – and the principle of GST is the GST on the final output is where the tax is collected.
        
        If Services weren’t subject to GST, then service companies would need to charge more to cover the GST payments on input goods – currently GST collected is offset to GST paid by service companies and the difference is paid to the Govt when collected from the consumer…
        
        Every opt out clause on GST causes confusion, gaming and makes the collection system inefficient

    Rates strikes are easily broken by Councils. They simply ask the mortgage lenders to stump the unpaid rates and the lenders will stump up with the money and add it to the mortgage together with an administration fee.
    So the only ratepayers who can conduct a meaningful rates strike are those without a mortgage eg the late Penny Bright.

  What annoys me is councils essentially have a blank cheque and can just continue to demand more with no limit. Central Govt can’t do this as NZ inc resources are finite. I’ll accept that Councils should get a cut of GST or PAYE but they must also not be able to increase rates beyond the inflation rate. Any increase beyond this must require Central Govt approval because Central Govt has inceased in some way the council responsibilities, and reduce if responsibility is taken away.

    Come on DG. You’re a bright guy and this kind of crap is unnecessary and beneath you. I’ve been vegetarian most of my adult life with the exception of a short period when my partner was hunting and we had wild meat in the freezer. (I’m happy to eat meat that has been shot in the wild, but not that which has gone through commercial processes, filled up with antibiotics etc). I’m happy. I know heaps of vegans, all just minding their own business and living happy lives, just without meat and dairy. Some do it bc they can’t afford decent meat. Personal ethics.
    
    Yes there are radical vegans the same as there are radical Māoris pushing their barrow. But in both cases most people are just quietly getting on with their lives.

I feel sorry for the dog and not the pack of useless scrotes in the story. The dog had only managed to get out and be picked up by animal control 7 times before. Of course they were out of town and couldn’t get to the pound to pick up the dog themselves, their parents had gone to a funeral and couldn’t pick the dog up on the day.

Of course nobody asked the obvious question, who was looking after the dog while the owners were out of town, for more than 7 days.

Any bets on the family being known to the authorities and one or more of the kids having stupid names?

For comparison, we’ve got 3 year old dog that managed to get out twice from our beach house (with a 4′ fence and no gate) because someone (not casting aspersions but it was my wife) had not clipped her to the long lead she is supposed to be attached to when we are at the beach, we noticed each time in less than 5 minutes that the dog was not where she was supposed to be so I call BS on the ‘beloved pet’ part of their story.

  Council staff considered that the dog was not suitable for re-homing. This is probably a gut instinct gained from experience. This could be argued but then there is no legal requirement for staff under the Act to comsider re-homing options.

    The Auckland shelters have an automatic euth policy for bull breeds. Regardless of temperament. A few years ago someone found a wee 6 week old pup and took it in and they bloody shot it (bolt gun) – assholes.
    
    In contrast, the 5 pounds in Canterbury all try to rehome including working closely with rescue orgs. They do kill some dogs but its not automatic based on breed (about as sensible as killing people of X race because they are big and strong).

      I’m no fan of the Turkish state, but the Turkish invasion of Cyprus didn’t happen in a vacuum. It was yet another case of Greeks being their own worst enemies. What did the Greek Cypriots and the generals in Athens imagine would happen when they tried to unite Cyprus with Greece? The Crusader guilt baffles me too – I’m not sure why Westerners are supposed to feel guilty about a series of wars that finished 600 yrs ago, in which the Muslims usually (and ultimately) prevailed. The last two crusades were intended to halt the Ottoman advance into Europe, so were unambiguously defensive. But as usual the truck drivers are seen as the “good guys” and the other people are the ones at fault.
Truck drivers are for some inexplicable reason held in high esteem: in my experience, as an old guy who for over 60 years has driven all over this country, truck drivers are bullies, they ignore speed limits, they tailgate slower traffic.
And probably half the time they are either half-asleep or on some sort of “medication”.

grey… Truckies motivation is different to casual travellers. They need to keep moving. Load/unload logistics. Owner drivers/ truck leasing. A tough game.
Just give them room. Although they are great to follow for long night drives, once they figure you are not a problem and you keep well back, just pacing them..

  Some trucks speed – just to keep with the flow.
  90 kph has always been stupid especially when twin turbo trucks are very powerful and drive just like a car. the 90 limit makes other vehicle drivers take silly risks when overtaking. Also remember a car is very light compared to a large truck/double semi unit. They hurt.
  Class 5 here so I have some idea.
