  NZ used to have a battalion based in Singapore in the seventies and eighties; not so much as a defence contribution to the region, but as an enticement to get Kiwis to sign up.
  If you were young again would you sign up on the promise of being sent to some friendly tropical island or be stationed outside Palmy?

  There’s no way a current NZ government would pay to station a battalion on foreign soil.

    I suspect that this will be the last time we see a woke, experimental opening ceremony. But who knows. In 2028, it is held in California.
    
    I think that too much of it resembled a cross between carnivale and a pride parade. These have their place, but I personally don’t think that the Olympics is one of those places.
    
    On the other hand, I do enjoy making fun of Christians, Muslims, and Maori mysticism. However I will concede that the Olympics is a poor choice to go fill tilt at such mockery.

  I saw some speculation that this was deliberately done to appease Muslims.
  
  The greatest threat to the Olympics is an attack from Muslim jihadi types. That’s why they have about 70,000 cops and soldiers roaming around France – more than during WW2.
  Flying a few dozen of those Houthi drones into a stadium would be a doddle and add to the mayhem.
  
  So how do you appease said Houthis? Attack Christianity!

      Yes, the Revolutionary army committed genocide against the people of the Vendee in the south west of France. Not much is known of this, and it has been excluded from the history of the French Revolution almost from the time of its occurrance starting in 1793 – I took modern history in 1958 -9, which started with the revolution, and even though it took up many weeks of the curriculum the Vendee was never mentioned.

The Left in NZ have no problems winning elections, they won in a landslide in 2020 and since Helen Clark have in fact won a slight majority of our elections ie over the last 25 years.

I think Rashbrooke perceives this as an area where the right have an advantage and will do everything he can to see that advantage taken away.

I believe Rashbrooke won’t be satisfied until our freedom to donate our own money to political parties of our choosing is totally stripped away, inevitably by leftist governments and replaced by state-forced public funding – a recipe for disaster as parties will no longer have to temper their extreme policies to attract support and donations but will rather retain them in the full knowledge that their funding will not be threatened.

Previously, they only needed to report on the value of anonymous donations of this value. This new reporting rule has brought to light huge amounts of donation cash which had previously been hidden to the public.

Time to time there is speculation about New Zealand as a safe place for some very wealthy in the event of global, shall we say, issues. We are well placed for that. Plenty of opportunities.

It is possible that Peter Thiel’s lodge could have been one of those? Until it was cancelled because reasons. Oh well, Mr Thiel has options and will be more careful next time. Somewhere else.

Then there was the rich guy wanting to build a top golf course and facilities on land he owns near Otaki. Oh dear, not consented because reasons, that appear to be from one hapu only in the area.

I think there is an Environment Court appeal to come, but if rich and with options why would you bother?

I am reminded of France’s wealth tax, canned when very rich families began to fall into the wide open arms of other countries.

Insurance aren’t interested and the house was built 30 years ago, all the builders I talk to say borer damage in particle boards is unheard of.

    Its not the insurance companies role to tell you how to manage your life. If the damage is outside the policy you purchased it has nothing to do with them.
    
    Your policy covers you for sudden accidental loss not gradual damage. Depending on what company it is with there is also the possibility that it specifically doesn’t cover you for damage caused by animals or insects etc.

  Statute of limitations 6 years, ‘long stop’ limitation 15 years, so you are out of luck. The ‘long stop’ limitation was introduced for leaky homes situations and covers cases where the issue would not have been reasonably noticeable within the usual 6 years.
  Builder’s company probably wound and struck off years ago. This would leave the supplier of the product to sue if still in business, but statute of limitations would preclude this.

      At that time the strand board used here was imported from Canada, and obviously had not boron treatment. I never used it in my buildings – I preferred the particle board flooring manufactured in NZ which had chemical treatment, and some was tanalith treated against rot & water penetration.

  I was privy to discussions around an LNG terminal a while back, from a systems and process perspective, when the last labour government canceled gas exploration.
  
  Ms Woods made the simplistic statement – build a LNG facility. She was then told it would take billions and nearly a decade. And as UnZud is at the bottom of the world, subject to additional costs and risks around supply – i.e. having to compete with the big boys for supply when they are closer and prepared to pay more.

  Gas retailers and major gas users basically need to foot the bill. The money can be borrowed but the lenders need assurance that it will be repaid. Perhaps the Industry is hoping the Government will step up and provide or at least lend the money. But that is not really the Government’s job. The best way the Government can assist is to clear environmental and other hurdles that could potentially impede the project, using special legislation if need be.

      Quite a few of them operate all around the world now. And the beauty of it is, apart from the pipelines, there’s a very little shore based infrastructure needed. And the Government doesn’t need to spend a single cent on it as it can be done entirely by the private sector. All that’s needed from the Government is a stable and pragmatic energy policy and regulations.

    During WW2, infrastructure like that was very quickly built. There is potentially a case for it to be such a hurry-up project. The four big ‘gentailers’ and major gas users are probably doing investigations and discussing with Government such an emergency plan but are not ready for any announcement (this would be a ‘state secret’ at present so as not to compromise potential commercial arrangements). Government concurrence would be required at various levels such as fast tracking environmental issues, allowing a coordinated approach without the gentailers being accused of market collusion, shareholder approval (Government owns 51% of three of the gentailers etc).

Random impertinent questions. Was Margie Apa up to the job, and if not why is she still there? Noted that it is possible that Minister Reti and Professor Levy will be helping her on how to do her job. (As in ‘I’m from the government …’)

During my time as minister, it’s become increasingly clear to me that the issues at Health NZ have been substantively contributed to by the previous Government’s mismanaged health reforms, resulting in an overly centralised operating model, limited oversight of financial and non-financial performance, and fragmented administrative data systems unable to identify risks until it was too late. Importantly, the front line was disconnected from decision-making.

    The media etc can ignore and gaslight against Trump and the Republicans to the extent that they can pretend Harris doesn’t have issues.
    
    Democrats however are a huge problem. Harris got destroyed in the Primaries. If she goes to an open convention, her opposition will have to be given airtime and they will point out her many issues. They won’t be able to cover that up.

    As a young woman her books were banned, she was driven out of Ireland by the establishment, condemned by the Catholic Church. She took up residence and achieved world wide fame in London, but ‘her heart remained in Ireland’. Of course now there are plaques where she was born and her home town is only too pleased to claim her as a celebrated author.
    She pointed out the glaring contradictions in the Irish way of life with humour and a great turn of phrase. Never afraid to laugh at herself, while also laughing at others.

    Not at all. Just pointing out that the meth scourge also affects the top end of town, not just the bottom. Clearly the man has a meth addiction and a sex addiction. That poor, poor woman.

  As the child of an addict (alcoholic) all I can say is a big Fuck You to all addicts out there that use their addiction as an excuse.
  Get yourself sorted out. Not for yourself, but for the real victims caused by your selfishness.
  
  On top of his family members that he was damaging there are also all his patients who had, or wonder now whether they had, sub-optimal surgery due to his pathetic actions.
  
  Bonus Fuck You to any person who knew or suspected this was going on but allowed it to continue.

  So, it looks like my theory from yesterday of exotic poisons is out, but so is the theory of vaccine side effects.
  Right now, it’s either Mrs. Polkinghorne in the hallway with the rope, or Dr. Polkinghorne in the bedroom with a meth pipe.
  And we have yet to hear the evidence of a certain “Miss Scarlet’ sex worker.
  Perhaps I shouldn’t be making jokes about someone’s untimely death, but I do.
  It’s like watching the slow-motion replay of a train wreck, which is something I also do.

  He said 80% of the menu had been vegan, while 20% of its customers were vegan.
  
  “We are now trying to be more inclusive, so about 30% of our menu will have some sort of meat products on it.”
  
  They’ve realised that 80% of their menu is too much vegan so they’re moving to… 70%.

Mon dieu, I am so enjoying the Olympic balls ups !!! 1. Olympic flag upside down. 2. South Korea became North Korea 3. Wrong anthem for South Sudan.
Then the French are so hospitable they invited drag Queens for a meal.
Can’t wait for the next episode.
There is sure to be another gold medal event.

No significant military input. Just a few OT staff given a bit of training by defence staff.

Pah!

If you want a bootcamp, then do a proper bloody bootcamp under military control with military law in place where it is a crime to swear at instructors.

They lose their lollies over some Olympic commentator being “sexist” when he made some comment about female swimmers and their make up.

Can’t be sexist by reducing women to simple beings obsessed with make up and can we? They are serious people. That would be sexist…

Scroll a bit further down their main web page and there’s an article:”Makeup artist Amber D on the last beauty product she finished” and some equally ditsy fashion pieces.
