More of the rug under Sleepy, Stuttering Joe is getting pulled from under him. Several stalwarts – Schumer, Pelosi, senators of important states, have all pulled back from unconditional support. The inner support team in the White House is shrinking. The problem is they really cannot get rid of him. If he and Dr Jill dig in and flatly refuse to leave it becomes almost impossible to think how he will go. Joe is making it very difficult to leave a back door open to escape if the strongest of his supporters. Obamas, Clintons, etc walk away. He is going to end up either having to go or losing heavily to Trump. Not much of a legacy.

The scary thing for thinking Americans is that Kamala is a possible front runner. She is a walking disaster and we only see the best side of her. Pretty boy Newsom does not seem to be favoured very widely. Democrats are in a very tight corner.

I was curious to read that Biden was reading a teleprompter when he made the Putin-Zelensky gaffe. What if someone deliberately manipulated that teleprompter?         In this day and age, post the JFK assassination, it is nigh on impossible for a US president to be murdered — thank goodness. Even an opportunist Hinckley-style attempt would be extremely unlikely.
        
        As I have said previously, I have no idea how the run-up to November 5 will play out, but, I am supremely confidant that all the relevant actors will get to play their parts, right through to January 20.

        In one early class at primary school we were asked to write and given adequate time to complete, an essay entitled “Getting away with the perfect crime.” These essays were collected and later anonymously read out to class by the teacher.
        
        My crime was considered boring as it did not the involve loss of life, injury, or loss of private property. It was hard wired into my DNA that you do not take lives or make people suffer.
        
        Personally I was horrified how many of my classmates “perfect crimes” involved shooting and killing, and blowing people up in the course of committing the perfect crime.
        
        My mother, a ex teacher, was horrified about the essay title.
        
        On the other hand, our teacher was very very attractive, intelligent, well traveled overseas, including the usual places, but also places like Europe, Arabia, USA, and lots of jewellery and bling to prove it. (it did beg the question, where does a primary school teacher in the 1960’s get that much money?)
        
        She had also got us to write other essays such as “Describe what your future will be like as an adult – goals ambitions etc” She was always getting us to think.
        
        However she was only with us for one term. I later reflected that maybe she was a psychoanalyst, there as an experiment, to screen which children would grow up to be monsters.
        
        Having put a lot of thought into that essay, I realised that we lived in a world that is safe only because of limited evil, and an enormous amount of trust.
        
        Almost any negative act against anyone is possible. It is just a matter of :
        
        [1] Whether there is sufficient motivation to do so;
        
        [2] Whether it will achieve the intended outcome, which in politics is often not always the observed outcome;
        
        [3] Whether you want to remain anonymous, and not be traced back to you or your cronies;
        
        [4] Want the blame to fall on someone else, to avoid an investigation into background issues and motives…
        
        Killing JFK cold have been accomplished a dozen other more convenient ways, but the “lone wolf” narrative was best, as it did not implicate the real perpetrators and the CIA in any way. That technique is well honed and has been used in very public cases.
        
        If you remove the constraints of being discovered, killed in the process, not limiting death to the target in question, then the possibilities are endless.
        
        For example you could fund a proxy war in another country against a stated “enemy” that has nuclear capability, blow their oil pipelines, impost sanctions and drop a small nuke on them and provoke them into launching nukes against the USA which takes out 50 million people, the president being one… No wait.
        
        Or perhaps target a person with a DNA weapon with disguised as a vaccine, and later use specific DNA targeting to induce death, or threat of death to blackmail them. For that to occur a person would have had to be committed to a hospital sick with some mysterious disease and the rest is just child’s play. No wait, Trump was admitted…
        
        Technology has developed far far beyond what most people know. It is a constant game of cat and mouse, and that is assuming that everyone on the (trump) team, is actually on the team, with 125% loyalty, however history tells us otherwise.

        Your commentary, from the ‘JFK’ paragraph, onwards, makes for interesting reading, but how likely is an assassination attempt on Trump before the election? I say, it is infinitesimal.

        California’s state economy is the fifth biggest in the world when measured against nations. It’s between the GDP’s of Japan and India.
        
        However, it’s only about the fourth biggest of the USA states in GDP per capita.
        
        On 2022 figures, California’s GDP seems to be about 15.7 times that of NZ, but its GDP per capita is just slightly more than twice that of NZ’s.
        
        In area, Alaska and Texas are larger than California, but California still has one and a half times the land area of NZ.

        Although I live in Dunedin I have travelled, we have used the Northern motorway out of Auckland, it’s tolled. The cost last time was $2.40 each way, it’s not compulsory to use the new triad, you can still go the old way, but it’s 20 mins longer, I am sure I don’t have to do the math for you which is cheaper, as I have to point out to bitter lefties

        To be fair it is generally accepted that it is better to have P and VP from different States and by doing so provide a mix of representation.
        The other VP picks I saw where Rubio was mentioned was Doug Burgum (Gov of Nth Dakota- very smart guy) and JD Vance (Senator for Ohio).
        Burgum was favourite and Rubio last. Burgum would make a good President to succeed Trump.

      You seem determined to find correlation between covid vaccination and all views of people with who you disagree. Are you going to keep this up for years to come?
      
      I have had 6 covid shots. I expect that I will have a seventh in May 2025 and one annually for at least the next decade. I have never had COVID and I do not expect to get it. However, if I do, I will be unlikely to become seriously ill. I know this because I understand the overwhelming evidence of lower all cause mortality in those who have received the COVID vaccines and maintained annual boosters.
      
      Historians will investigate for the next few decades why COVID vaccines caused so many people like you to lose all rationality. IMO the principal cause was the mandates, which of course were wrong. However, even without the mandates, there would have been opposition, fuelled by irrational opposition to science.
      
      It is not unrelated that we have an emerging tragedy in New Zealand where 1 in 4 parents have decided to risk the lives of their children by not allowing them to have routine childhood vaccinations. This is criminal parental negligence.
      
      The madness of paranoia about covid vaccines is one of the reasons that I am so opposed to Mātauranga Māori being given the status of “science”. There are already too many barriers to rational thinking. We don’t need another one.

        I had only one covid vax under coercion many years ago, and also have never had Covid. But my singular personal experience, like yours, is not proof of the effectiveness of the vaccine.
        
        However, if I do get covid, I will be unlikely to become seriously ill because it is not a serious illness.
        
        My children have the normal vaccines. But do i trust the medical establishment less after the covid years. Absolutely.
        
        Covid fascism gave us a peak behind the curtain about how information can be manipulated and controlled and how far they are willing to go. Eg. *Doctors who disagreed publicly with the covid vaccines faced loss of their license and would be shamed in the media. * Blocking true information or anti government narrative information on a wide scale by the fbi and government operatives who were working hand in glove with social media companies . * The use of disinformation projects, and other psychological ops and government nudge units who use behavioural science to coerce people into complying with government edicts * The manipulation of data like daily media banners claiming hundreds of NZers were dying of covid when a year later, post vaccination, we find covid deaths were deaths of any kind (like gang shootings) within 24 days of a positive test.
        
        It is the lies and manipulation that the has left people with less trust in governments, media and the medical establishment. They have brought it on themselves. And as an unvaccinated person I won’t wear anymore of the blame.
        
        Media called people speaking the truth Conspiracy theorists.. Conspiracy theorists said we will be forced to take the vaccine. Ardern responded “Not only won’t people be forced to take the vaccine, there won’t be any consequences at all.” Conspiracy theorists also said it came from a lab.
        
        Ardern used military tactics of collective punishment to force vaccination. She threatened that all of Auckland would be forced to stay in Auckland over Christmas/ Summer if the unvaccinated didn’t get the vaccine. For 2 years the pinned post on reddit Auckland calling the unvaccinated C*NTS for ruining summer and Christmas. There were threats on facebook community pages as Aucklanders raged against the unvaccinated. Instead of Ardern being blamed for lockdowns it was the unvaccinated. It was scary to be unvaccinated.
        
        As well as being shunned and humiliated in public and completely excluded. Their ability to travel stopped. Their jobs and livelihood threatened. The unvaccinated were made to feel unsafe.
        
        That is why collective punishment is banned by the Geneva convention. It is effective, scary and brutal control tactic. Turning the group against the individual.
        
        I’d rather catch chicken pox than live in a police state. What they did was evil and wrong. They belong in jail.
        
        Any problems the medical establishment or governments have with trust is now totally upon them.

        I have commented extensively on the damage caused by Jacinda on the vaccine passes, the mandates, and all the associated horror shows.
        
        However my anger at all that does not make it rational for me to not be vaccinated. I can separate the criminality of Jacinda from the efficacy of the vaccines. My thoughts on the latter changed somewhat over hundreds of hours of reading peer reviwwed studies. I concluded that the overwhelming evidence is that all cause mortality is lower, consistently, in the vaccinated as opposed to the unvaccinated.
        
        I stress that this conclusion only applies to large data sets and to peer reviewed analysis. I am not talking cherry picked data posted to reddit.

        Excess Deaths mainly in the 15-45 age group is up around 20%.
        Insurers are worried as there appears to be any rational reason why.

        I have commented extensively on the damage caused by Jacinda on the vaccine passes, the mandates, and all the associated horror shows.
        
        However my anger at all that does not make it rational for me to not be vaccinated. I can separate the criminality of Jacinda from the efficacy of the vaccines.
        
        When someone who is heavily infused with evil, Marxism and no respect for others, uses force to get you to take something that is not approved, and does not use standard vaccine technology, but untried gene editing, self preservation instincts alone, should prevent anyone from complying.

  From all the reports, Trump would relish Newsom being anointed as the Democratic candidate. He was a golden boy, but with a record of incompetence even bigger than Harris’s. California is collapsing with the middle class leaving. Only billionaires, celebrities and serfs remaining with the first two looking at fleeing from the new tax demands and collapsing infrastructure. Petrol and power prices are the highest there. The economy there is in freefall. He is an arrogant hypocrite to put it mildly. His first wife is now with one of Trump’s sons. Even the other Democratic State Governors hate him.

        You are correct BY. I know better than trying to argue economics with you. California is projected to have a $68B budget deficit this financial year and ongoing $30B annual operating deficits. The latter is the more serious issue. Plus there are liabilities like pension funds.
        The economy is collapsing as industry moves elsewhere. That and those jobs which go with it are the tax base the economy is losing All that’s under the Governorship of Mr Newsom. This is why he would get slaughtered by the GOP in any US campaign with his indefensible record.

“That is not the sound of a summer storm you are hearing.

It is in fact the wailing and whining of Michelle and Barack Obama as they contemplate life after Joe Biden’s “successful” press conference. They are now watching the chances of President Michelle receding further and further away.

This was the plan. Barack had already started the plot to expose Biden’s decline by “helping” him off stage at a Hollywood fundraiser. Then Barack’s friends such as George Clooney would pile on the pressure and Obama’s political apparatchiks, who not so secretly loathe Biden and his administration already, would organize the political defections and leaks that would bit by bit destroy his credibility.

Then Michelle would, reluctantly and only for the good of the nation, accept the nomination and sail to the presidency without any actual campaigning. Just a celebrity concert here and an endorsement by Beyonce and Taylor Swift there and it’s off to Pennsylvania Ave. (Because it worked so well for Hillary).

But the cunning plan depended on Biden exhibiting more and more cognitive decline. But last night the President pretty much failed to go along with the plan. Like a child in a Chicago public school he passed even though he is incompetent and not ft for purpose. In both cases we are truly witnessing the soft bigotry of low expectations.

And so Michelle and Barack are left without a path to victory with time running out. It’s not as if Michelle particularly wants to be President. It’s a bit too grubby for Her Highness but as Joe Biden has shown you can be President without actually being there or doing anything – so that was the model she was going for. And its not as if they have any grand vision for the country either – except to make abortion compulsory for the lower classes. They just know that no one can do the job as well as they can and the country needs their saintly touch.

We should be grateful Michelle was even considering it. Is the dream over? Not completely but the path to presidency just got more difficult for Michelle.”

Seems like we will need more popcorn while we watch this one play out.

Council voting underway here but I don’t know what any of these people really stand for and the left wing bureaucrats seem to have their own agenda and will implement it regardless of who the powerless figureheads on ‘the council’ are. Since National – as the erstwhile ‘premier’ centre-right party – abrogates its responsibility when it comes to local body politics, it’s even less clear who stands for what.
I’d say the Left, with their highly successful capture of our institutions and bureaucracy, are about 75% of the way to achieving a totally maorified and Te Tiriti-centric left wing Socialist Republic of Aotearoa. This is clear from the regular reports disseminated here by Steve Otto, and the regular e-mails I receive from the Taxpayers Union. I’d say the Coalition have rolled things back not a jot. Judith Collins won’t release the legal advice received on who owns the water, presumably because it says Iwi do. I only hope that they don’t know get a legal opinion on who owns the air we breathe.

      My expectation is that Tauranga will elect a council made up of people with a range of political leanings. There will be a group who are steadfast about not enabling ongoing maorification and Te Tiriti nonsense and who are determined to stop the constant nose-bleed level rate increases to fund vanity projects. Then it will really kick off with the bureaucrats, lefty councillors, and the MSM howling about purported ‘racism’ and that some ‘dinosaur’ councillors are ‘standing in the way of progress’. There will be claims that the council is ‘totally dysfunctional’ and voters have ‘elected a bunch of numpties’. At this point Simeon Brown will step in and appoint commissioners, headed by Anne Tolley, and they will advance the Lefts agenda without any opposition.

        Sadly, ratepayers have shown they will put up with pretty much anything. Anyone thinking that ‘voting’ gives them a degree of power is about as deluded as it gets. The council bureaucrats demonstrably run the show, the councillors are merely in charge of sticking the bill to ratepayers. This gives the ratepayers a target to focus on: “they put my rates up!” – thereby blaming the councillors for the depredations of the bureaucrats. As I say, when the rubber hits the road ratepayers are unable to organise themselves and protest against council profligacy. There should be organised protests, but all we will see is sustained grumbling.

        I disagree with your portrayal. Matauranga Māori will not be all quackery. All indigenous cultures have valuable knowledge. My problem is when that is promoted as science. However I agree that there is quackery. IIRC students are being taught, in science classes, the Maori concept of “life essence” or mauri. Of course there is no such thing.

      “Maatauranga … is often empirical”. Yes, but I want to make two points about this.
      
      1. An obvious point maybe, but by no means all empirical knowledge belongs in science classes.
      
      2. Activists sometimes engage in motte-and-bailey tactics about what exactly is being included in the science curriculum. For example, here’s Daniel Hikuroa criticizing the Listener Seven
      – he exclaims “we did not navigate to Aotearoa on myths and legends”. Here, Hikuroa has retreated to the easily-defended motte – it’s well-known and completely uncontroversial that the Polynesians were great navigators. But he knows full well that Maaori supernatural ideas are being included in the school science curriculum – Maaori beliefs, as well as knowledge. And when the threat has passed, activists will sneak back into the bailey (inclusion of Maaori beliefs in science courses).
