Why new housing rules risk cheap builds and shoebox apartments – Christine McCarthy
Ms McCarthy is Senior Lecturer in Interior Architecture, at Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington. Reading her opinion piece in the Herald have to wonder if she is an expert with an agenda, trying not to be too obvious about it.

For example – “The real question, though, is whether the new policy will protect New Zealand long-term – when the full wrath of climate change hits, or during any lockdown when the inevitable next pandemic emerges.”

And specifically around size requirements – “Auckland’s late 20th Century shoebox apartments were built as small as 12sq m – smaller than many of the motel rooms Bishop uses to justify abandoning minimum dwelling sizes.” False equivalence because reasons?

She does however admit that small dwellings “could be ideal for the proverbial young professional, living much of their lives outside their flat, or for the short-term rental market. But it doesn’t work as well for families or older people.” Well, yeah. Perhaps Ms McCarthy is not aware that small dwellings are not compulsory to rent or to buy. Or with her uni experience, how about them students?

  There are a lot of people now in the workforce who go home for the weekend. Commute just Monday morning and Friday afternoon. For those people, a small apartment close to their work, particularly if it comes with carpark, is ideal.
  But Ms McCarthy doesn’t encounter those in her cloistered world. Hers is a paradise with everyone in architecturally designed properties no doubt.

    About 30 years ago I lived in a shoebox apartment for 12 months. It suited me perfectly. I was 10 minutes walk from work and surrounded by dozens of restaurants and 🍜 noodle bars. I did not own a car or have any desire or need for one.

    If I was in that situation then a shoebox apartment would suit me down to the ground during the week, with weekends at the homestead. It’s not vastly different to what I did for years while traveling extensively for work. All week in a hotel room, home on the weekend.

  Another person who has ‘made it’ in life pontificating how others should live or not live. She rightly concedes there is a place for ‘shoebox’ apartments for young professionals etc but then argues they should not be built at all because they would not suit families or older people. Seems to be a serious lack of academic rigour here.

  What is wrong with a shoebox apartment if that is what people want?
  
  Hundreds of millions, likely billions, throughout the world live in shoebox apartments. They are fully adequate. What is so special about NZers?
  
  Demographics have changed. We are no longer in the 1950s with 6 person families and quarter acre dreams. We’re now getting older, with much smaller household units. Those that are breeding are seldom generating more than 2 kids. The physical housing stock needs to change to reflect that.
  
  In the 13 houses clustered closest to ours:
  * The average size is 4 bedrooms.
  * 3 are single people (2 are divorced, 1 a widow) with no kids.
  * One house (4 bedroom) has two late-teen kids who are leaving home within the next year or so.
  * The other 8 houses hold empty-nest couples.
  
  A few of the spare bedrooms are used as home offices or sewing rooms, but the majority stand idle.
  
  We have an under utilized housing stock and changing the options to include one bedroom and studio apartments would be a huge improvement.

      We live in a 70m2 (without looking up exact size) unit built in the late 60’s.
      
      Plenty of space with two bedrooms plus a (possibly illegal) 3rd bedroom off the garage inhabited by our 19 year old grandson who has been with us for the last, almost 6 years.

    The really puzzling thing is the number of 3 and 4 bedroom houses sitting empty. They are cared for, but remain available for rent. Every suburb in Auckland would have some.
    And yes, I can’t give figures but this was observations over 40 years in Auckland.

      If the 3 and 4 bedroom houses are too expensive to purchase or rent, why would anybody buy them or rent them? In a way you are just proving the point of people who say that there need to be more of the smaller apartments: why on earth would a young single person or young couple want to purchase a 4 bedroom house off an old couple when they don’t require a dwelling of that size or cost?

    Lots of downticks for you. Could be real estate agents, or older property owners who want younger people to buy their properties at eye-watering prices. The older property owners should consider that rather then creating a trap whereby people are forced to purchase their properties, freedom of choice and competition is crucial to our way of life and is an intrinsic part of ‘capitalism’. In any case, younger people can always move to Australia if living here no longer makes economic sense, nobody is truly ‘forced’ to buy somebody else’s asset.

    That we have land in abundance. This ain’t Singapore. The housing crisis we have is real and is directly a result of ideology and bureaucracy, not of factors beyond our control.
    
    The idea that we should be crammed into small apartments simply to kowtow to the whims of our masters is not only perverse but an admission of defeat.
    
    That said, removing regulations that allows developers to build cost-effective housing is a good thing. It’s perfectly reasonable that at certain times in life a small, low-cost home is preferable. But God forbid we should do it only because we can’t get the hell out of own way.
    
    This country has become very stupid, angst-ridden and weak. We should be ashamed we’ve allowed ourselves to be become our own worst enemies.

      Crammed into apartments? Turn it up. A single person or young couple don’t need to rattle around in a 4 bedroom house. Auckland is an isthmus the last time I checked. ‘Land in abundance’ aye. It’s the real estate agents / property developers wet dream that the landscape be covered in housing, with vast numbers of immigrants pouring in, but who will pay for (or even build) the complementary infrastructure?

        Auckland long outgrew the isthmus. Hell, the harbour bridge was built in 1959 to service growth on the North Shore. You’re living in the past to think Auckland is constrained by its harbours.
        
        Sure, reduce immigration. Great idea but it’s not responsible for 70-year-old state houses in Blockhouse Bay selling for a million dollars. That’s down to land use restrictions and heavy-handed regulation, factors you seem to be in favour of continuing lest those horrible property developers turn the country into one big city.

        Blockhouse Bay has a major advantage over Pokeno: it’s actually in Auckland and therefore close to where people are employed. Building new suburbs in places like Bombay and Maramarua….it’d be just urban sprawl, and if we curb immigration who would live there? We keep being told ‘we need’ tens of thousands more houses. ‘We’ actually don’t. Without mass immigration ‘we’ don’t need these houses. Builders and property developers may very well need to keep building these houses, but ‘we’ don’t.

      We moved from a 4 bedroom house to a 1 bedroom 60 sq. m regulated minor dwelling on our lifestyle block. We thought we would like another 10sq.m but no chance without a “donation” to the council. In our retirement we are finding the size we have is great. Not much housework, easy to keep warm, and we are still having dinner parties with up to 12 guests. I recommend it.

  The vast majority of small apartments (<24sqm) are Student accommodation
  Like this Unilodge complex- have a look.

  The reality is Banks wont finance anything under 30-40sqm anyway so without the ability to leverage, developers generally wont build them as the only buyers would be cash buyers- and that's a small market.
  And they want a high yield if they are to pay cash, which means a low price.
  But they rent very well. There is always demand. So what does that say?
  So Bishop can say they are ok but will the Banks go along?
  But there really is nothing wrong with smaller apartments. Sometimes you just don't need a lot of space- but having facilities to use does enhance the living experience.

So was the implementation of the “waka-jumping” bill after an out-of-cabinet “horse-trading” agreement between Peters, Ardern and Shaw? And for the price to the country of abandoning mining and oil/gas exploration, should the Greens not now use the law we have so dearly paid for?

PS – If the creation of ‘List’ Members under MMP was to Represent the full Party Vote, why when one defects is she or he not automatically resigning from Parliament, as they are then there not legally Representing anyone but themselves and the change must alter the Electoral results of an Election. The law should be amended to remove this Parliament-wide loophole, so the Speaker announces the departure from Parliament of any List Member who resigns from the Party they are in Parliament to represent – as the Speaker has already been officially advised in Tana’s case of leaving the Green Party.
It is not by the Speaker’s decision or choice – It Is What It Is

  As far as I remember, the Greens had no bargaining power in the 2017 coalition negotiations. Winston refused to talk to the Greens and James Shaw (only co-leader at the time) was too chicken to even have a chat with Bill English. Jacinda basically told the Greens ‘this is what you are getting’ with the implied threat that if the Greens protested, then Winston would probably go with National. So the Greens did not get a look-in on the Waka Hopper issue at the time – that was agreed between Winston and Labour.

  I am thinking that is was not someone put the autopilot on, but the autopilot was on and someone switched it off – then they lost control.
  Autopilots use things called ‘waypoints’ (destination points) I have them on my boat GPS/fish finder. Makes navigation at night so easy.

  They are reporting the pilots could not switch off the autopilot, nothing to do with credence, it’s fact, the coffee issue may have been thrown in by Peters. Rotten unions did much of the talking and meant damage control from the corrupt attempt hide this, Hipkins said peters found this idea under a conspiracy rock but it was already known that it was fact.

I got an invitation to a meeting to discuss what could be done to help refugees and other migrants to Aotearoa.

Poor buggers have been duped. They wanted to go to New Zealand.

Refugees have gone through a process of leaving their shitholes behind them for a better future. They came to NZ looking for the NZ-ness. The absolute last thing they will be wanting is turning NZ into Aotearoa so it can be just like the shitholes they left.

While the left elites ,academia etc ( and the Nats are on board with a lot of it) are still 100 % determined to advancing the promotion of all things race,identity and treaty the real world of industry , infrastructure and wealth creation continues to be stymied .

Andrew Dickens and Winston Peters discussed the Northport expansion issue this morning: however they failed to mention the REAL reason for the commissioners refusing the application, and that is the opposition and interference by local maori.

“Tangata whenua were also strongly opposed to the expansion, with Patuharakeke, Te Parawhau and Ngātiwai all against it.
The commissioners said the adverse effects on cultural values of tāngata whenua, and the loss of recreational values and public access in the coastal marine area, were significant and irreversible.”

This of course is quite obviously going to result in lots of koha being required in order to get maori approval.

As usual these days.

      Because government is much better at picking winning investments than the market, and it was environmentally friendly. And, well, frankly we couldn’t find anything better to invest in that wasn’t already commercially viable, which is why we blew so much on Hundertwasser.
      And we can’t go back to returning the dividend to ratepayers to make their own decisions on spending, because that would be admitting we’re pretty useless.

        Patuharakeke, commonly known as the Takahiwai trash around these parts originally supported Northports aplication. When the hearing started they changed their mind and demanded 10% of Northports turn over to continue supporting their application. My company has a submission in supporting Northport so I get a full copy of the decision which is quite frankly a woke joke. Basically it was declined on cultural grounds. The beach between Northtugz jetty and the refinery jetty was going to be pretty much halved by the reclamation. It wasn’t much of a beach, I’m fairly sure the refinery leftovers have been leaching through there for years. But apparently this is where they leave from to collect kai moana from Snake Bank. They forgot to mention the bank has been closed since 2014 and it would be much easier to leave from Marsden Bay or better yet the public boat ramp at Marsden Cove. I can understand why they want to bring in the fast track legislation in with decisions like this being made. That’s 1500 jobs that won’t be coming to an area desperately in need thanks to a tiny minority who strangely enough seem to be able to afford really flash lawyers.

I am in need of advice which I know Kiwibloggers are well equipped to give.

Our Sky box( the old version) is telling me the hard drive is not responding and to call my service provider. I did call Sky yesterday and got a basic problem with the TV sorted eventually but this problem suddenly emerged.

The usual things like taking the sky card out and resetting, pulling plugs out and reinserting them haven’t worked.

We are extremely loathe to get the new Skybox as we have loads of stuff recorded which will be lost and what’s worse at present is we have to actually watch the news in real time as we can’t record anything or pause it.

Any suggestions you helpful people?

  Assuming you can still get some access, make sure the hard disc is not full or nearly full and if so delete some items to free things up. The other possibility is the hard disc is ‘dying’ and complete failure is inevitable. In that unfortunate case you can kiss goodbye to saved programmes.

  Is the remote ok? If the code has been accidently changed it needs to be reset to the sky box code.
  I just reset a HDD recorder to factory settings when it was playing up. The box went back to code 1 when the remote was code 6 (inteferred with a DVD player)

  If the hard drive is not responding, it is not responding. As peterwn says, the hard drive is either totally full or is dying/dead and in the latter case your recorded programs are toast.

  Hard Drives have a finite age. And it is sounding like your Sky unit is very old.
  
  The actual life of the hard drive depends on a number of factors, the most important being temperature of the unit and whether or not the unit is powered off a UPS. (Uninterruptible Power Supply.)
  
  A good UPS maintains power in the event of a power outage or interruption, allowing you to gracefully shut it down and protects against surges, brown-outs, momentary power cuts, etc.
  
  Life can vary between 3 and 15 years, according to conditions.

  The language I’m seeing is very vague, meaning they can say stuff that is “technically correct” but misleading.
  
  I read something about an “execute button” being “accidentally” pressed, and that’s when they couldn’t work out how to disengage the auto pilot.
  
  So it sounds like auto pilot was plotted in, maybe even operating, and then someone pressed a button that immediately executed the turn, at which point they didn’t know how to turn it off because the only person that did had left the bridge.
  
  But that’s a total guess.

I’m not sure what is going on here. Is MBIE be anti-government? Did the Minister not give them the right feedback or Terms Of Reference, or is the government looking for an excuse not to undo the Oil & Gas ban?

Here we have the article that is being used to beat-up the government. Purporting to show that the reversal of the ban will add ~50 M tonnes of CO2e to emissions over the next 25 years (and then the obligatory misleading comparison that annual emissions are “meant to be” 61 M tonnes a year. It doesn’t say whether this is net or gross, but FYI, the gross emissions are currently ~80 Million, not 61 Million. So for those not wanting to do the maths, an additional 50 million tonnes over 25 years (2 million tonnes / annum) is only a 2.5% increase. Anyway – distraction – don’t focus on that.

The point is that buried in the story is this gem:
Reversing the ban and increasing gas use could have some positive climate impacts because using more gas would mean burning less coal, which emits far more. More gas would also mean a more stable electricity market which would encourage electrification. Neither of these positive impacts were modelled, however.

So who asked MBIE to do an analysis and only focus on the negative climate impacts and not the positive (or indeed the net) climate impacts? This is just giving the Opposition (and media) a stick to beat you with! This is the sort of ‘analysis’ I’d expect from Just Stop Oil or Climate Justice, not a Government Department!

    How can it be “just like” the Scott Watson case? AFAIK forensic pathology played no part in the trial. Because there were no bodies.
    
    The only physical evidence to link Scott Watson to the victims was one hair from Olivia found on the boat. That is quite different to brain tissue from a victim being found on the clothes of the accused.
    
    I am not arguing that Scott Watson is innocent. The jury was best placed to make that judgement. But there are no similarities with the Lundy case.

        The case against Lundy is much stronger than the one against Scott Watson. The hair they found in the lab was quite likely Olivia’s, but how it got onto the sample table is very uncertain. And there is no other forensic evidence to link Watson. Wishart previously thought that Watson was innocent, and his change of heart doesn’t seem to be based on new evidence, but rather a reexamination of the same facts that initially led him to believe the Watson was innocent. The case he now makes is highly selective and ignores a lot of the defense case. He spends a lot of time arguing the eye witness discrepancies, and his photos that purport to show shoulder length hair only really show someone with short hair who hasn’t had a haircut for six weeks or so.

        There is a great long form podcast that covers the Swedish tourist murders. Its called Guilt and was season 2 or 3.
        His conclusion was that there were others involved, who he names and discusses in quite some detail, but Tamahere was definitely involved. Well worth a listen if you have a spare 10 hours or so 🙂

        The spare key was in the glove box.

        Allegedly the two were dead by now, if he killed them he would expect the car to be subject to a police hunt. Yes there were two bad guys in the bush, Tamihere and the killer, whose name I forget. The killer locked and abandoned the car, and confessed on his death bed.

Then 1980 Assault /sexual assaults of elderly woman 62 tied up and raped in her home. Then 1985 Ties up rapes and threatens to kill a woman in a six hour horror attack in her home. . Goes on the run to avoid court and lives rough in the forest. And then decides to come out and steal a car , which unlucky and unbeknownst to him just happened to be the young couple who were murdered in the forest. I mean what are the chances?. And also he has the keys to the car. But the tourists had left the key of the locked car in the glove compartment.

    No. The Privy Council had to accept the alternative report as presented (that report came after the original trial). Mr Temple Camp told the Crown Prosecutor that report was ‘Bullshit’ (it was in the Manawatu after all) and the Prosecutor tole him that they would have to express it to the PC another way.
    The only real response the PC could make was to order a retrial where the alternative report could be tested. The PC was in no position to hear submissions or determine facts on the conflicting reports as this would be best left to a jury.

      Let us clarify from Leask’s article.
      Temple-Camp says Christine’s DNA was in the spot, but Philip Morgan was grilled on this by H Winkelmann in the appeal court 2017. He repeatedly said they could find no DNA in the spot, despite trying different methods. Of course the DNA came from the surrounding shirt material, which was soaked, and the solution tested. The spot remained unaffected until sent to Texas.
      There is a simple way to establish this, email P Morgan and ask him. He will confirm to you.
      This does not make Lundy innocent, but it does make Temple-Camp a liar.

I was having a clear out of my computer storage yesterday and came across the emails between myself and the Air NZ Koru membership people (marketing?) that I wrote about of a week or so back. That is, what is the symbol on the tail of the aircraft, a Koru or a Mangapore (hammerhead shark). Here’s exactly what the Air NZ guy wrote….

“Air New Zealand’s relationship with Māori language and culture is not new and our aircraft have flown with the symbol of the Mangōpare (hammerhead shark) on their tails since the 1970s – it’s a symbol we’re proud to fly under…….”

Fun times ahead for the British electricity consumer.
Labour’s policy is to double onshore wind generation and quadruple offshore wind generation.

The folly of using averages…
Already in the UK when an ideal wind is blowing there is more than enough capacity forcing some wind turbines to be turned off. Adding additional windmills will mean ALL the additional windmills must be turned off in similar wind conditions.
This is obvious to the windmill developers who have built this into their pricing (50% increase for electricity from the new windmills). Not so obvious to far left zealots.

In the UK the government signs the contract and passes the increased costs through to electricity consumers.
Labour will oversee the greatest transfer of wealth from working class people to wealthy landowners in history. Oh, and it will almost certainly result in blackouts, but only for those poor people without backup diesel generators.

I forget which politician said it, but when it was pointed out solar only produced half the required amount of electricity (because it only operates during the day) he said “well we can just double the number of solar panels”.

  Yup, it is like anything else: you don’t design for averages.
  
  The average snow loading for a roof in Canterbury is maybe a fraction of a mm. But once every few years we have a big dump of snow that puts 300mm or more of heavy wet snow on a roof – that is what you have to design for.
  
  The same principle applies to energy production.
  
  In energy production generation can be split into groupings in many ways. Here the important split is:
  * Dispatchable: Can be turned on and off on demand. If you want more power, phone them up and they chuck more coal in the boiler or open
  * Non-dispatchable: Can’t be turned on and off on demand. If you want more power you need to pray to your deity of choice to make the wind blow or make the sun shine at night.

  And this is why you have a market where the generators take the risk on generation. None of them are going to deliberately built a wind farm that isn’t profitable. The issue is that they don’t pay the full cost that they impose on the market as a whole as a result of intermittency over a variety of timeframes. If those costs could be determined and imposed it may change their decision making. Not a simple problem – there is obvs some cost in terms of frequency keeping (the second to second balancing of supply and demand) that would be reasonably easy to estimate, but the cost of reserves required due to intermittency within the 1-2 hour timeframe would be much more complex. I’m sure one of the big consultancies could do it in concert with one of the companies that models wind and solar generation data.

  I suspect there is an issue with the dog parking and howling – but it’s probably for short periods such as after the owner leaves the house, but because she is home 24/7 it feels more frequent. The other neighbours prob don’t hear it because they are at work.
  
  I know that in chch they install monitoring if there are reported issues, find it hard to believe that ashburton doesn’t have a single monitoring device. And they don’t appear to have talked to the other neighbours.

    Anyone from my generation, could tell you that it will not work, and will significantly compound the problem, but like Covid Vaccines, Climate Change and Continuous wars, it WILL keep making billionaires.
    
    [1] Humans depend on O2 to live.
    
    [2] Mother nature has CO2 to O2 machinery consisting of a gigantic chamber called the atmosphere filled with lichens, moss, grass, and greenery, that converts CO2 to O2. And the whole process is powered by sunlight.
    
    [3] Pumping CO2 underground means that the removed CO2 will no longer be able to go through Mother nature’s machinery and be converted back to O2.
    
    [4] Mother nature’s machinery is both responsive, has feedback cycles, conversion buffers, and is able to dynamically alter the rate of conversion. Removing CO2 from Mother nature’s natural cycles will upset the natural cycle.
    
    [5] The cost and energy required to extract the CO2 is not trivial, and at the same time, the human machinery required to extract the CO2, is producing more CO2.
    
    Ideas like this are put forward by people who don’t understand science.

  The idea of pumping CO2 underground, automatically tells me the the creator of the idea, does not understand the truth about “climate change”, they do not understand the O2/CO2 cycle, and do not understand high school science or physics.

I’ve just read a book called Getting Out of Saigon written by Ralph White a 27yo employee of Chase Bank who was charged with closing the Saigon branch and getting as many of the employees out of South Vietnam before the North captured the city, which he did with a day to spare
All fifty workers plus immediate family were evacuated
Incredibly harrowing story
The refugees were resettled in America by Chase
I read elsewhere the Vietnamese refugees in general have been the only ones generally accepted by the American public
The book is a good read, particularly if you remember those years

  IBM have been doing that to staff since Adam was a cowboy. They have a reputation for sucking up as many all comers they can, churning them and spitting out the ones that don’t cut it.
  Then those that do have a life span in the company that life span is measured by how long it takes for their personal wick to burn out.

    Throw their suitcases at the tanks?
    
    There was a civil war between north and the south who were backed by the US & others including us.
    The US pulled the plug and the south lost
    Civilians who worked for the American banks, IBM, etc were seen as collaborators and in danger of mass execution. Consequently they were evacuated, mostly.
    The American Ambassador, Gordon Martin, was a delusional character who believed right to the eleventh hour the war could be won and only exacerbated the situation.

    They did fight, and they died in huge numbers, in including 100’s of thousands of civilians from starvation and purges after they were defeated. The South Vietnamese hate the North, they still privately call their city Saigon not evil Ho Chi Fucking Minh City.

      I went to that city about twenty years later and although it’s called Ho Chi Minh City it was also openly referred to as Saigon (or Sai Gon)
      The currency is the dong, but American dollars were also widely used.
      We went to the old South Vietnam president’s palace and a tour guide showed the two of us round. In one room was a big map of the country taking up a whole wall will lines and arrows and a list of enemy countries including NZ. I’d told the guide previously I was a Kiwi so I felt a little awkward.
      As with the city name and the irony of the currency it was no drama at all.

Now that it is out, I’ll add some points.

1. When the Interislander crashed I took a screenshot of the AIS path. A quick pencil overlay confirmed my suspicion the course change was heading directly for the next way point. It had been engaged too early.

2. Autopilot does not recognise what is in front of it. That peninsula be dammed, it was taking a direct route to the programmed next waypoint.

3. Putting the ferry into and out of autopilot is a bridge management and staff training issue. It has nothing to do with how old the ferry is. Since 2007, this has been the system.

4. If this happened elsewhere in say Tory Channel in high seas it would be a true disaster. The MSM have been slow, once again, to investigate the real issue here: are KiwiRail the right organisation to operate ferries?

  This is not for MSM (or any other media) to investigate. There are two entities in NZ that will investigate this incident, Maritime NZ and Transport Accident Investigation Commission. While I haven’t got an overly positive opinion of Maritime NZ, the other outfit (TAIC) is very professional and very good at what they do. Or at least they were, when I had some dealings with them in the past.

The group would engage “directly with victims, workers, business owners, retail experts and advocacy groups over the next two years to provide specific proposals to address urgent challenges in retail crime,” Justice Minister Paul Goldsmith said in a release on Thursday.

I usually tend to agree with Robert Maccolloch’s take on things, but I find it hard to follow the logic in his latest blog post. “Thank goodness we have one MP, Paul Goldsmith, who Stands up for Property Rights in NZ. The post argues that the property rights of MSM content creators should be protected, but doesn’t explain how property rights are being breached under the status quo. There are already laws in place protecting copyright and IP. It seems to me that the argument is for an extension to what can be considered a breach of property rights.

His examples of JK Rowling and Paul McCartney being paid for the content they created are not analogous. They do not put their content on their websites to be read or listened to free of charge. If they did, presumably they would want traffic directed to their websites to view the content.

The post doesn’t adequately deal with the likely consequence of the Bill, that the social media companies will stop featuring NZ news links. Why should NZ pass law now knowing that it is more likely to have a negative effect on MSM revenue than a positive one (ie. knowing that the costs will be higher than the benefits)?

The post seems to acknowledge that there are gains from being elevated by social media: “I’d be delighted if big digital platforms had to pay for articles from MainStreamMedia, but not from Blogs like DownToEarth.Kiwi. A likely consequence would be they refused to pay for articles from the MSM & instead sourced news & commentary from Blogs like this one, which are free, which would hugely elevate us.”. For me this passage is a very strong argument against supporting the Bill.
