    Mine a few years ago was for exceeding 100kph. Can’t remember the fine.
    Thing is I don’t know where the cop came from. I have a class 5 licence, so with that you use your mirrors all the time. Yeah, dunno where he came from.

        It’s just a developed habit. Need to watch idiots overtaking etc. Always aware of things around you, especially pilots.
        The company I worked for did heavy boat haulage. I think the heaviest I did was around 40 ton. Can get into a lot of trouble at maiden launchings. Out comes a dinghy filled with ice and bottles of beer and spitits. Bit of music, BBQ and the party starts. The truck/trailer got left overnight at Westhaven a few times! Old trucks – 59 Leyland, Ford D1000.
        Bragging rights, sure, I am 72 soon.

    If I recall correctly the fuss was around Helen blaming the speeding on the driver and refusing to accept responsibility for asking them to rush her to a rugby game. How much does Helen like rugby, not at all. She also claimed to not be able to tell the difference between 100km/hr and 120km/hr.

  I had the “ giving away massive amounts of your money” tax dodging explained to me. If I remember correctly it goes something like this you give away say half of your vast fortune to a charity that you set up that invests in start ups, research and the like and collect all the tax breaks and public adoration for doing so but you own or have majority shareholding in everything you donate to. As well as that the money that the charity holds but doesn’t donate is for all intent and purpose still yours and the charity pays you as a director. Bill Gates is a truly revolting person as his wife found out after years of marriage.

    Bene – they counted those who’d been vaccinated in the 2 weeks after a vaccination as unvaccinated. If you have been following any of the statistical analysis of vaccines and covid deaths this would be apparent. This was done to push up the “unvaccinated” death numbers.
    
    With regard to remdesivir, or as the ICU nurses call it “run-death-is-near” there has been consistent reporting of the problems that follow its use such as acute renal failure and death. When comparisons have been done with patients who were not given it, it appears to enhance the pathway of multiple organ failure and death.
    
    I have no links to the above but I thought the connection between its use and death had been long settled since the Ebola trails with it.

After the “hard landing “ of the Iranian president and defence ministers helicopter I’m left wondering if the Israelis aren’t implementing the same policy of revenge assassination that they so successfully did post the Munich Olympic terrorist attacks. If they are and I wouldn’t be surprised if they are then they’ll be a good market for adult diapers in Iran and Qatar. Some people never learn from history lol.

      Bomb on board? You would want to detonate at high altitude so the craft couldn’t land.
      Special forces team with a MANPAD inserted into enemy territory to hit the helicopter in mountainous terrain in bad weather? I’m not saying it’s impossible just damned near impossible.

  Any time a senior leader is involved in a plane crash people are going to speculate about foul play and there is plenty of history here. The deaths of Dag Hammarskjöld (UN 2nd Secretary, Douglas DC-6, 1961) and Zia ul-Haq (President of Pakistan, C-130, 1988) look especially dubious.
  The deaths of the Presidents of Rwanda and Burundi on the same aircraft in 1994 looks like a straight up assassination, but nobody has been found guilty of that one.
  On the other hand, the 2010 Smolensk incident that killed a couple of Polish presidents and a bunch of other top civilian and military leaders just looks like a tragic case of bad weather, poor planning and shoddy gear. But that didn’t stop the old conspiracy mill from grinding away.
  On the other-other hand, I will give odds at ~95% that the death of Prigozhin and his inner circle in a fireball crashing to earth last year was an assassination ordered at the highest levels. The alternative theory, that those guys got drunk and started to play with live grenades on board isn’t very likely, is it?
  But your general point that the assassination of opposition leaders is some sort of brilliant master strategy, is just false. If you want to move the game into that sort of a playing field, then you had better be ready for the same against you. Israel killed the members of “Black September” not just for revenge but also because they knew there was damned little that those guys could retaliate with.
  No so with Iran.
  As Jim Malone (Sean Connery) said to Eliot Ness (Kevin Costner) in “The Untouchables” (1987)
  “He pulls a knife, you pull a gun, he sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue. That’s the Chicago way.”
  Who can go further up that ladder of escalation and who is more willing to pay the price?
  BTW, the assassinations of those two African presidents directly led to the Rwanda genocide that saw maybe 800,000 people brutally hacked to death.
  How’s about that for learning from history?

      Out of curiosity, I wonder what sales are like now for e-bikes compared to ordinary bikes? I have been riding for several decades, ever since I were a wee laddie, and gone through several bikes in that time. Last bike I bought my wife suggested an e-bike, but they’re not for me.
      
      Looking around the bike parking area at work (a secure caged area within an underground carpark), it’s usually full of bikes, and I think I have only ever seen one e-bike in that time.
      
      Can’t help thinking they were over-hyped when they came out, leading lots of people to buy them “because I’ll be able to ride to work or the supermarket in ordinary clothes without getting all sweaty, and it’ll do me good“, only to use them a dozen times and then lose interest.

        I cycle to work in CHCH everyday, which is a flat city and so probably the least ‘I need an e-bike’ city in NZ. My experience is that at around 50% of the users on bikes I see are e bikes, normally older people or ‘unfit’ looking.
        
        While I too choose to ‘proper’ bike, I think e bikes are great and will likely get one at some point. Certainly lots of older people are getting excercise when they otherwise might not 🙂
        
        p.s. I often get a bit pissed when an ‘oldie’ zooms past me

        In mountain bike circles their use is growing – older or less fit riders can keep up with their mates. I have a 60 ish friend with a heart condition that said he got one as he’s not allowed to ride hard out anymore but was then annoyed when all his riding pals got one as well.
        
        Unfortunately, From what I’ve seen, most ebikers never learned any riding skills. They are even worse than the overweight weekend warriors who take up biking to do an Ironman at 50.

      Sometimes I talk to the owners and they think they’re marvelous because unlike Chch Auckland is quite hilly with 50-60 volcanoes

      My local cycle shop says they are really busy with e-bikes. Almost all the stock is now e-bikes and the profit margins are ‘great’. 10% on a $900 bike is only $90 but if you make 10% on a $5000 e-bike thats $500. So not hight percentages but simply higher value products.

Having won a judgement to sell WDC assets because they refuse to pay damages awarded by the High Court, Jimmy Daisley has now won in the Court of Appeals.
Will the Whangarei District Council now attempt an appeal to the Supreme Court?
All because they set out on a course of petty persecution of the purchaser of an operational quarry.
I’m going to guess no one will be held responsible for this debacle except the ratepayers.

      Sure, the regional conflict in the ME might kick up a notch but that’s not enough for WW3.
      It is not clear that Iran can really do to Israel more than they have done already – fire drones and arm their proxies.
      
      A world war needs large expeditionary militaries – a navy that can sail to the other side of the war and fight there. Iran has a few frigates and corvettes that are not really suited to going anywhere as an expeditionary force. Heck, they couldn’t even get into the Med to attack Israel.
      
      I can’t see Iran kicking off dragging in China or Russia.

  “Rainbow People” supporting Palestinians isn’t a problem for “The Axis of Resistance”, it’s a problem for Western Liberals.

  Just as Kiev wasn’t relying on the famed and mythical “Unicorn Battalion” to actually storm any Russian trenches (remember those They/Thems from last year?).
  It’s all political theater and putting on a dramatic performance is just about the only thing these people are good for.
  This is why we have Gay and Lesbian Pride Parades but not Gay and Lesbian irrigation and flood mitigation infrastructure projects. If it’s hard work without an opportunity for a flamboyant display and casual sex, then they/them just aren’t interested.
  But theatrical displays can have political value, especially in the Liberal West. Kiev fighting against Moscow could be framed as a gay rights issue, ridiculous as that is, but that line had some value to the western liberal project, so it was run.
  But there is no way Israel bombing Gaza into rubble (or blasting Lebanon, Syria, Iran etc.) can be spun into Gay Liberation. Israeli gay rights laws are a product of the Israeli liberal left, and they are being squeezed into irrelevance by this war which is a project of the Israeli far right and ultranationalists.

        From reading the article, this is what she wishes to test in the court. You say this as though it is an inalienable fact. It clearly is not. This is the Government’s advice:
        
        “When you’re arrested, you have the right to get legal help before you say or do anything. ”

    What nobody seems to have commented on is the fact that she drove into a parked car, and yet has pleaded not guilty to careless driving. Whether she is right about the point over, as Ghost puts it, being able to call a lawyer right away from the side of the road, is a different issue. But driving into a parked car is the most open and shut case of careless driving that there could be. For a Minister of Justice, ex or not, to plead not guilty in those circumstances, is pretty shameless, and shameful. IT guys there for checking Dominin machines then 30 minutes after they left the machines started flipping ALL votes to Biden! In 2000 they were so blatant breaking seals, scanning ballots multiple times, boxes and boxes of ballots dropped off. Even in red areas the ballots went into dumpsters. Some area the republican watchers were not able to watch the counters, and the windows blocked up so they could not see in.

For anyone with an interest in World War II, may I recommend Resistance; The Underground war in Europe , 1939-45 by Hanik Kochanski.

It is a large book and it’s best to read a couple of chapters at a time as the detail ( and German atrocities in retribution) might overwhelm you. For example The scorched earth policy relating to Finnmark in Northern Norway saw the destruction of 11,000 houses, 6000 farms, 106 schools, 27 churches, and 21 hospitals burned and thousands of citizens evacuated.

A lengthy read but it covers all the resistance from the Balkans to the East and West and also shows up how sometimes one hand didn’t know what the other hand was doing by SOE and the Brits.

  No doubt this book will have a number of chapters covering Soviet citizens fighting for Germany. The independence movements across Eastern Europe / Soviet Union that fought along side the Wehrmacht.

        Humans wouldn’t have survived without flies . Them landing on our food and contaminating it has been the main catalyst for our stomach bacteria . Robust stomach bacteria allows us to eat all sorts of crap without getting crook .
        Along with dirt .
        Best thing after a dose of anti biotics is a teaspoon ful of topsoil . That’ll get it going .

  That was a bit of bullshit hype by an activist from France or such.
  
  First off, many plant types do not even rely on insect pollination.
  
  There are dozens of different insects that do pollination and, in many cases, the honey bees have dominated them close to extinction.
  
  Recent varroa mite outbreaks in NZ have made severe dents into the feral bee population and other pollinators such as bumble bees have thrived.
  
  NZ is one of very few places in the world that does not allow antibiotics for AFB and is still trying to control it by killing infected hives. Most other places use other policies:
  * Antibiotics. Unfortunately resistance develops so maybe not a longterm solution.
  * Just letting nature sort it out. The weaker bees die off and AFB resistant/tolerant bees thrive.

    Exactly, when varroa killed off the wild honey bee population there was a big increase in bumblebees and no decrease in fruit set or clover seed set.
    It was interesting timing that the manuka honey bubble began almost immediately after the competition from wild bees was destroyed.

    I read somewhere that as the number of bees has declined in some parts of the world, plants are actually evolving so they can be pollinated in other ways. I think it was smaller flowers (as they no longer need to attract bees) but stamen etc changing to improve pollination by the wind?

    Correct, in NZ we can’t use antibiotics. This is a biosecurity decision because the bacteria becomes resistant to the available antibiotics. They never become resistant to fire. All beeks (bee keepers) know this.
    Our honey has better international market value because we don’t use antibiotics.

    It is not a matter of can or can’t it is a matter of what is permitted.
    
    Technically there is no reason why we could not use antibiotics, but they are not permitted.
    
    This policy is chosen partly to keep NZ honey antibiotic free, increasing its value in the world market.
    
    The other aspect is that antibiotic effectiveness wears off with time as the bacteria become resistant. Therefore is’s not necessarily a great longterm strategy.

  The idea the we’ll die if all the bees die is a lot of BS, as is the idea that we are at a risk of losing all the bees, but as a bee keeper I’m aware of just how bad Foul Brood is. Bees range out to a 2km radius from their hive, which means there’s a lot of overlap between hives. If one hive has Foul Brood, the bacteria that causes it is carried and quickly transferred to other hives in the area. NZ has decided not to use antibiotics to treat Foul Brood because there’s a lot of evidence that the bacteria become immune to it very quickly, so the only solution is to destroy the hive with fire, and if you have several hives together they are all destroyed. Very painful, but that’s the way it is, and every bee keeper in NZ knows this, or should.
  There’s also no such thing as “a tiny trace of AFB”. If it’s in your hive, there’s nothing you can do about it. It’s a “tiny trace” because they caught it early, but they detect it because there are “rotting” larvae. If it’s at this stage, then you can be pretty sure that most of the recently layed eggs and larvae are infected and will soon die.

  It’s an interesting idea, but, fundamentally, it is about everyone making sacrifices to subsidize bad drivers.
  
  There are numerous unintended consequences:
  * Slowing down traffic wastes time. When 5 million people each lose 10 minutes a day that’s over one lifetime a day – over 400 lifetimes lost a year.
  * All the costs of the extra traffic controls take money out of other things which can benefit people. There is not infinite money. Saving a driver from their own poor driving might cost buying life saving machinery for a hospital.
  
  It seems ironic that Sweden is so worried about death on their roads, yet has no qualms importing murderers and rapists from shitholistans.
  
  People need to find out that driving is potentially dangerous. It is unforgiving, so don’t mess about. They need to drive carefully.

Tauranga Council elections.

Heard the two main contenders for Mayor on the AM show. This really illustrates the major issue with councils, why are these two people the ‘main contenders? The answer is obvious, its not because of polling results, simply they are both celebrities. Sadly, barring another even more famous candidate, one of these two will likely win the mayoralty.

The lady is clearly the Green candidate and sadly she seems the better qualified for the role. Dysdale seems to be relying on his fame for the job and doesn’t even live in Tauranga, no idea on his ideology. I am sure there are other much better candidates that have better policies but since NZ elections are about name recognition above all else, we often end up with muppets.

Just sad.

    The most expensive part of the whole operation is getting it to, and accessing, the customers. It is similar to most drugs (and pretty much similar to any other commodity too).
    
    eg. stuff that worth, say, $5000 on the streets of New York is worth $5 when it is still in Mexico, $100 when it has been successfully transported across a border into a USA warehouse, then $1000 when delivered to a warehouse in New York.
    
    Thus, they really don’t mind losing stuff early on in the supply chain. They are far more worried about losing stuff closer to the customer end.
    
    No different really from the value of bread: $1 in the factory, $2 in the distribution centre, $3 on the shelf, $4 in the customer’s trolley.

Today I had a day off where I am working. Very warm at present. Went strolling. Happened by big department store with big glass doors accessible if one wanted to do so, by a gentle slope from road, over pavement, to shop. Lots of expensive perfumes and watches and cosmetics just inside the doors. But no ram raids here. Stores like this have security licensed to carry SMGs with what looks like 50-round mags. Seems to work quite well deterrently…

  I watched and found David Farrier (not DPF) the lefty scoffing at conspiracy theorists etc. Then Kate Hannah and her 2IC from The Disinformation Project featured heavily. If you read TDP reports then included in alt-right definition are proponents of family values. As a strong believer in the strong family as the strongest building block for society I am clearly at odds with their view. Not that they let their more extreme beliefs out to the NZ public last night!
  
  TPD we’re still running out the old story that Jacinda is the most hated on person on the internet etc. No critical analysis of the data collection method, flaws, or reasons why the findings are such eg locking us down, lying about mandates, creating two classes of citizens etc. No mention of all the stick that Chris Luxon or David Seymour are now copping.

  Well, I would like to know more about who this “Ben Leder” is and what his record of previous tweets is like. Actually, I don’t care but if you do then you should back track a bit on his previous statements to check for bias and accuracy.
  I see two possibilities here. First that there is really such information and someone close to the investigation has chosen to anonymously leak it internationally.
  Second is that there is no such information, and some party has invented it and passed it off as an anonymous leak by someone close to the investigation.
  The President has been dead for what, 24 hours?
  Which possibility do you think is more likely?
  Personally, I’d give it 95-99% chance of being politically motivated propaganda and disinformation.

This helicopter has now been missing for several hours. It was carrying the president. It would have had a flight plan. It is inconceivable that it would not have locator beacons and a satellite phone on board. How could it not be found inside 30 minutes?

  BY, planes in NZ are sometimes not found for many days, especially if they are lost in thick bush.
  
  In the 1980s a light aircraft was lost in the South African Drakensberg range. They searched for it for about a week then gave up – using helicopters and light aircraft. It was found about a year later by a small group of trampers who had got lost and had walked up an infrequently travelled gully by mistake.
  
  Due to the way the rock folded, and the plane crashed, it was hidden from view. Search aircraft had flown over it dozens of times without seeing it and it was only about 300 metres from a well used track.
  
  Even on the side of a mountain – which is relatively open – can hide an aircraft very well.

  No, too many unknow variables to make that sort of assessment. Aircraft type, radar coverage, assets in the area, weather, terrain etc.
  Plus, this was VIPs traveling in near war time conditions. Who knows what sort of security measures there were in place. It occurs to me that if you want to kill someone, you have to know exactly when and where they will be. Flight plans and locator beacons could do exactly that. So, I find it far from inconceivable.
  As an aside, who was that millionaire businessman who was killed in a chopper crash in New Zealand a few years ago? Despite the fact they knew where he started out from and where he was going to, they didn’t find his body and the wreckage for weeks. And it wasn’t in particularly isolated or rugged terrain either. A fluke chance dropped the wreckage into a steep gully on farmland covered in bush.

The Health and Disability Commissioner has released a report on the death of a man from myocarditis, which was found by the Coroner to have been directly caused by the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.

Commissioner Morag McDowell found the man, aged in his twenties, was informed of the common vaccine side effects but not the potentially serious ones including myocarditis.

We’ve been told it’s vital but what happens to people who don’t get Transgender Surgery.

NZ reports that approx 20 people a year got referred for genital gender surgery in NZ up until 2018. And in 2018 onwards it’s over 100 people a year.

Now everyone must go for an “FSA” (First Specialist appointment) and people who have been on the list for a longer time (2018-2020) are now required to go back and get their GP’s to fill in a health form before they are eligible for an FSA.

In each case only approximately half of the people on the list responded.

eg. “60 patients who were referred between June 2019 and December 2019, only 33 patients responded. … two patients requested to be removed and 17 patients required further information to be supplied.”

So what happened to the 2 patients? Did they de-transition, have therapy, change their mind, are they still trans but just don’t want surgery? What about the 17. Was it delaying tactics. Why didn’t they update this supply the info to the patient and update the data. Could their GP’s not answer the questions?

“The Service will now be declining patients from the wait list if they do not meet the gender affirming genital surgery service FSA criteria or they do not respond to either our attempts at contacting them or provide the GP
Completed information”

So many patients are not responding to attempts to contact them? I wonder what info the GP supplied if any to put them on this surgery list

“So far five surgeries have been performed in 2023, and an additional two
surgeries were cancelled due to patient’s personal circumstances preventing surgery being undertaken. Several other additional patients
DECLINED surgery dates that had been scheduled, due to their personal
circumstances.”

So several people say they want surgery , to the point of going on the list, but then change their mind.

Would be interesting to do follow up interviews with those not responding and or declining surgery or being removed from the list. Are they still trans but don’t wants surgery, have they detransitioned. Do they still take hormones. How is the mental health of the genital surgery group vs other.

A review into Kāinga Ora has found it is underperforming and not financially viable without significant savings as well as funding and financing changes.

Minister for Housing Chris Bishop says “the review makes it clear that Kāinga Ora’s financial situation is very worrying.” with debt forecast to increase to $23 billion.

As a result of the review, Cabinet has agreed to four recommendations.

1. Aligning contractual arrangements across Kāinga Ora and Community Housing Providers.
2. Refreshing the Kāinga Ora Board
3. Issue Simplified Direction to Kāinga Ora
4. Ministers set an expectation that the Kāinga Ora Board will develop a credible and detailed plan to improve financial performance with the goal of eliminating losses.

The Vatican has announced that it is set to hold a press conference on “supernatural phenomena” tomorrow, and it will touch on aliens and how it will deal with potential encounters in the future.

According to a notice on the Vatican’s website, it will kick of at noon tomorrow, and will feature three prominent Vatican members.

6 months home detention and a $200 fine, plus community service. What a joke

A man’s demeaning and violent abuse of a woman saw him inflict physical assaults, which left her unable to continue breastfeeding.

Adam Thomas Ross’ abuse extended to telling her to she should kill herself and threatening to kill her and make sure her body was “never found”.

Despite admitting 18 family violence charges and one meth possession charge, Judge David Collin couldn’t distinguish one incident as being more serious than the others, describing his behaviour as “dehumanising and degrading”.

Hope to read more soon about the life of Tony O’Reilly, the Irish and Lions rugby wing who went on to be an international business magnate.

O’Reilly, who died on Saturday, when touring NZ with the Lions in the late 1950s, scored 17 tries.

I think O’Reilly was head of the American food giant HJ Heinz when it took over the NZ firm Wattie’s.

He had a spectacular business career with personal investments paralleling his executive posts such as that at Heinz. All sadly ended when banks pursued him for debt totalling about $NZ350 million.

The government stuff it up, then they walk away…

Statistics NZ staff no longer comfortable in central Auckland so they are relocating. I wonder what that costs us?

Clearly that’s a bit of a shock to central Auckland.

“Simpson said it was important as a council to give Aucklanders confidence, and added it would require a “multi-faceted approach”, involving police, social service agencies and the Government.”

Well when the cops are absent and the government are running away, that’s not a very multi-faceted approach.

It looks like Auckland is just on a relentless march to join other international CBDs.
