Labour has released its rainbow manifesto –

Chris Hipkins boasts that labour has relentlessly advocated for the rainbow community. And that’s probably true. They are all in on homosexuality and transgender. We see that they will allow rainbow couples the same rights as heterosexual couples for adoption for example. This means that we will have more instances of two homosexual men adopting an unrelated male child. What could possibly go wrong?

Also they are all in on changing gender and we can probably expect more young people to transition under Labour’s guidance.

It is interesting to me that when our birthrates are down and actual marriages are falling apart that Labour is advocating for the tiny minorities. They think they are enlightened and this makes them good people.

According to the good book and the last two millennia of human history they are degenerates who call what is good bad and what is bad good.

  I think you are way off the mark with your implied allegation against homosexual adopters. Just look at the parenting we get with heterosexual couples where one (or both) ARE related. Having two dads or two mums would be trivial problems compared to what many kids endure.

    Agree, gay men have more stable marriages than straight on average, though lesbians are less stable getting divorced at about twice the rate. I suspect tendencies to sexual abuse are probably diminished by raising kids from infancy – much the same as children raised together from below about 6yrs old basically never develop sexual interest in each other (Westermarck effect).

    I agree. Totally off the mark. I (somewhat) know a gay couple who have adopted a girl. This child is going to have attention and resources and love in plenty. If you are worried about the welfare of children in New Zealand, I would not start with gay men or women adopting children.
    
    Many gay folk – male and female – do not want to be bundled in with ‘transgenderisim’ which has become a cult, unfortunately.

      Kids are supposed to have a mother and a father, not two fathers or two mothers. This can be verified by observing how any offspring are produced and raised in nature. No twisting and turning and relativism is needed to demonstrate this fact, which is not the case with the neo-“family.” No amount of ideological nonsense will ever change the fact that this girl will innately recognise the bizarreness of her situation.

      Agree with your assessment BY that this girl will be loved and looked after etc etc.
      
      However, I had a similar situation of growing up with a father and a brother only for much of my childhood. It is hard being a female child in a male household because there are just things a girl needs to discuss with another female who innately understands and/or has experience of.
      
      When that girl starts maturing do the men here think she’s going to be comfortable discussing her physiological changes with her dads? It’s embarrassing for a girl who is unsure of what is happening and needs guidance and experience.
      
      What about if she is heterosexual and goes a bit boy crazy. Her fathers may understand ‘liking boys’ from a gay perspective but that’s not the same as a mum guiding her daughter through the minefield of boy-girl teenage interactions and knowing how to teach a girl to cope with expectations.

        There are likely to be work arounds.
        
        I agree – in an ideal world a married mother and a father, married and stable is ideal. However New Zealand society is now miles away from that. Children born to married parents are a (narrow) minority and half of those get divorced.

    The statistically safest environment for a child to be raised is one where the biological mother and biological father do the raising. Anyone can argue outlier anecdotes to fit their narrative, but that is irrelevant in a population-wide context.

      It’s been proven over and over again that the way to raise healthy children in a healthy economy is quite straightforward and anybody can do it, regardless of their melanin content and whether or not some of their ancestors were dealt with meanly by other people’s ancestors centuries ago:
      
      1. Stay at school long enough to graduate.
      2. Don’t get pregnant while at school.
      3. Don’t impregnate while at school.
      4. Get a job or go for postgraduate education after leaving school and then get a job. Your first job won’t be much, but you can build on it.
      5. Marry or maintain a stable relationship with one partner. Work at it if you have to.
      6. Don’t breed what you can’t feed.
      7. Raise your children together.
      8. Work hard and you will prosper.
      9. Don’t impulse-buy.
      10. Don’t drink or consume any other drug to excess.
      
      There now, that’s not so hard.

        A pedantic note for Fuzzy.
        
        Though ‘Don’t breed what you can’t feed’ is memorable for its use of internal rhyme, breed-feed, and half-rhyme, don’t-can’t, monosyllabic words and stress pattern, it does not have any alliteration.
        
        Alliteration, loosely defined, is the repetition of initial sounds in words in word groups and single lines, especially the repetition of the initial consonant in the initial stressed syllables. It’s often found in tongue twisters, ‘Round the rugged rocks the ragged rascal ran…’, cliches, ‘gentle giant’, ‘flying Finn’, and advertisements.
        
        Alliteration was an important structural component of Anglo-Saxon poetry, contributing to a poem’s memorability. As evidence of its aid to memory, here are the only two lines I recall (perhaps inaccurately) from Auden’s The Exiles, a poem I last read 45-50 years ago.

  Toni Street and her husband would like to change the surrogacy rules as they needed to go through the adoption process even though their son was biologically theirs but not legally at birth. Tamati Coffey and his husband also used surrogate(s) for their children, cannot remember which of them was biologically involved. Kiri Allan is probably not a poster child for the cause.

    Yes indeed Heather. Here’s a list of “progressive” ideas that have had disastrous consequences:
    – No-fault divorce has turned marriage from a covenant into a mere contract.
    – The DPB lets dead-beat Dads off the hook, and encourages the antisocial lifestyle of solo motherhood. I think the DPB is actually necessary, but there should be a limit to the number of kids a woman can bring into the world on the benefit.
    – Mass entry of women into the workforce. 60s and 70s feminists condemned stay-at-home Mums as slaves and dupes of the patriarchy, but now most women have no choice – they can’t stay at home because most men don’t earn enough to support a family on a single income (value of labour degraded by union-busting, globalisation, and mass entry of women to the workforce).
    – “Women never lie about rape”. The dogma that informs the government’s hair-raising plans to shift the burden of proof onto the defendent in sexual assault cases.
    – Uncritical “gender affirming care”. An expression that would have Orwell spinning in his grave. In the US, one insurer is now declining to cover health professionals involved in this practice, as some are now facing lawsuits from detransitioners who say they should have been treated with more caution and prudence. Coming soon to this little archipelago!
    – Maatauranga Maaori is “co-equal” with so-called Western science. I suspect most people have little idea of the extent to which this lunatic idea is distorting research funding in NZ – not to mention education.

  When most of the world had moved to zero days isolation, and NZ employers were asking for Labour to at least change to five days or a negative test, Chippy said no and insisted that 7 days was what the experts were telling them needed to remain in place.

    If you test positive for COVID-19, it is recommended you isolate for at least 5 days, even if you only have mild symptoms, starting at Day 0. This includes if you have had COVID-19 before.

As is to be expected the support media are all over Peters after the interview with Tame. I am absolutely no fan of Peters who I suggest is a charlatan and a manipulator, but Tame’s arrogant and bullying tactics need calling out. I accept that TV needs a little drama to compete as a medium but TVNZ and Tame are just too precious and too rude by half. Any information that was revealed in that interview could have been elucidated with half the time, some carefully worded quiet questions and let us make the conclusions. Tame is a prat, an insult to interviewing.

There is an obvious agenda to rile and rankle, to be the top dog interviewer, to create drama when none is needed. The subject matter was largely irrelevant to the main causes voters want to see – it was put together knowing Peters couldn’t answer and therefore allow Tame to create a spectacle. His interview with Shaw was an interesting contrast making us all aware of the bias not just by Tame but TVNZ itself.

    Personally I think this whole thing is great for Winston. It doesn’t matter how bad Tame made Winston look as most didn’t watch it. It does however give Winston far more airtime and coverage than his party deserves. I’m no fan of the Greens but they have a much higher party vote but almost zero coverage.

      In the past when he challenged back on his questioner, he conveyed power and an aura not to be trifled with.
      
      Yesterday he was looking more and more hunched and grey. And his phrases lacked the sound of power, almost like he didn’t have the breath to sustain him. Not to mention repeating the same tired rebuttal over and over.

  Tame put it to Peters’ that his $10 mil to some race track in Chch was somehow payback to his funders/sponsors , the implication being it was corrupt , as it was according to Tame , outside of the rules.
  
  Peters replied that that was signed off by Cabinet.
  
  Would Tame or tvnz put that alleged inappropriate spending to any Labour members of Cabinet ?

  The way things are heading, it would not surprise me if New Zealand First secures more of the party vote than ACT, or close to it. Only a few weeks ago I was thinking New Zealand First at 5 percent and ACT at 15 percent. No way that is happening.
  
  BTW I heard Nicola Willis say that she wanted to get a “mini budget” out by Christmas. That will be a challenge because it could well be mid November before a new Government is sworn in.

      Because the real state of the books will only be apparent once the new government is in place. The real state of the books will be a disaster – any plan you have will need to be completely redone.
      
      If NZ First are required (and like Benedict, I sadly suspect they will), Winston will not sign an agreement without the required 4 to 8 weeks of him lapping up the attention as king maker. He is an egotist and he will keep Labour, National and the country waiting as long as he can – and yes, he may still go with Labour after all that’s been said and done.

        Peters, as a seasoned lawyers, will be doing due diligence and that, more that anything else will be the cause of a delayed agreement.
        
        A coalition is like a marriage or divorce, it takes time to work out the specifics.
        
        Only on the left do they jump into bed with someone in a day or so.

      Simple. The production of such an economic statement will require detailed costings, policy advice, and Cabinet decisions. The Treasury will need to coordinate this process. None of that can happen until Nicola Willis is Minister of Finance.
      
      IMO a credible economic statement will take 6 weeks. Work would need to begin by 1 November at the latest.

        It really does not work like that. Politicians and their staffers so not have the capability to do such work. You can wish all you want but the statement that Nicola Willis has signaled cannot be formulated and published in 2 weeks. No chance. Apart from the costings and policy changes, all changes to Appropriations require highly detailed Cabinet decisions. Winston will (probably) be in Cabinet.

        Any reasonable incoming govt, picking up this shitshow, will know they have to audit the books, as there will be all sorts of hidden liabilities and costs, not just in govt, but in SOEs, and they will be digging up financial time bombs and dog shit at every turn for months to come.
        
        e.g. how many private health consultants/contractors that were propping up public health services, had contracts terminated or suspended leading up to the PREFU to create “visible savings”, and that will necessitate “new” budgeted spending in health to maintain services and that will blow out the budget? And that Labour will use post election to criticise the incoming govt?
        
        Labour has probably been right for the wrong reasons about Nationals projected financial policy.
        
        “National’s financial policies are not costed right.” (because we’ve raided the piggy bank and run up all sorts of extra debt, that cannot be met.)

        A mini budget will not be comprehensive and there are lots of subject matter experts at The Treasury and others to be called on in departments. Those BIMs will already be in final draft. Officials will have planned for change, not just BAU, and will have had heads up from current and likely Finance Ministers.

    Give each MP a budget of $200k/annum that they can share around print and broadcast media any way they want. No special funding status for RNZ or Maori channels – they have to contest it like everyone else. NZ on air to work the same way, if not just cancelled. All govt advertising to be shared around in exactly same proportions.
    
    That would ensure all parties in parliament get proportional media representations and current 90% left wing NZ media would be left scrapping over 40-50% of funding, that would quickly correct their editorial slant, see them severely downsizing, and see balancing media organisation on right expand.

Listening to Shane Jones on RNZ today there can be no doubt NZ First will go with Labour and the Left alliance.
National’s numbers don’t add up so no tax cuts, and their foreign tax housing package apparently will stop new house buyers in their tracks.

Jones is tribal Labour, Peters will always seek revenge against National. We know they will dream up any old excuse for a decision they have already made.
Vote NZ First if you must, but know you are voting for another three years of Labour.

  If there is a National led government it will be fascinating to see who is right and who is wrong about the rich foreign home buyer tax intake. Personally leaning towards National’s numbers – there are many very wealthy folk in the world for whom $2mill+ is pocket fluff. And they have family members also to buy homes for.
  
  Plus these wealthy folk no doubt chat to each other – good experiences will attract the likeminded.
  
  New Zealand might need to loosen up on private choppers, superyacht berths and rules about what colour paint is permitted.
  
  I see Realestate.co.nz spokesperson Vanessa Williams doesn’t see a significant impact and said “Homes priced over $2 million tend to spend more than twice as long on our site than those priced closer to the national average asking price, telling me that demand is not currently satisfying supply in this area of the market.” (RNZ today). Umm, could a major rule change make a difference?

    Out at a beach I am pretty familiar with most of the nice homes never get to the market. Someone knows that a owner is thinking of selling and talks to someone they know who has been looking and waiting for years. Sold for cash. Hardly get a bare site (if there were any) for $2mil.

      There are also developers and builders closing down. New builds and big renos for the rich might make them pause before heading over the ditch.
      
      My Wellington street is not mansions but few if any would be under the $2mill mark. I think many people may hear median prices but are not aware of quiet listings or private marketing in the likes of cities, Waiheke Island or Queenstown. Some selling in the tens of millions.

National’s action plan has some good stuff but not one word – not one – on the most important issue of this election: race relations. It’s simple, does NZ become an ethno-state or not? Luxon and National are pussyfooting around this issue, probably because the party is hopelessly divided. Its left wants much the sam3 as Labour and its right wants what Act stands for. Never the twain. Great pity.

  The repeal of the Three Waters legislation cancels co-governance. The disestablishment of the Maori Health Authority will nobble race-based healthcare. And the repeal of Labour’s version of the RMA will also deal to the co-governance provisions it carries.
  
  That’s three major items gone inside 100 days, all of which had racial overtones; what more do you want? As for disunity within Labour, I’ve never seen the party so united and focused. I guess it all depends on one’s perspective.

      What he is saying is that a lot of Maori control over rivers and mountains and lakes and stuff in various regions is now ‘baked in’. It was all signed off in the existing settlements. It is done, it is dusted. It won’t be relitigated now. The only major settlements left to undertake are the ones with the Northland tribes.
      He is acknowledging the reality of what *has* happened, when others for some reason will not.

Yesterday afternoon the wife & I went and watch “River of Freedom’ and the theatre was packed, with the next session also being booked out.
Its no wonder a lot of pressure was put on Picture Theatres to not show it, as it’s a damming indictment on how the government behaved and the Police were used.
Each time Ardern, Hipkins, Bloomfield, Mallard or Michael Wood came on screen, there was significant scorn from the patrons.
It was really clear that those protesting in the main where for anti-mandate, not anti-vaccine as proposed by the government and MSM. Clearly there were those there who were anti-vac, but still had the right to protest and should have been listened too.
Also, with a mixture of ages and ethnicities, its hard to accept the Government/MSM view that it was driven by ‘white supremacists’ – Clearly just more BS as a distraction.
I came away asking, ‘Why the hell didn’t Luxon, or Seymour go and talk to them’. After watching the movie, it was clear in the early stages both Luxon & Seymour could have made significant gains by speaking to a protest representative group – I would really like to know why they didn’t and who’s advice did they take.
I know a picture theatre full of like minded people is a small sample, but I got the feeling there is still a large under-current of dislike towards Labour & Ardern, that maybe is not being picked up in the recent polls – Bloody hope so.

    There is mounting evidence that each extra ‘booster’ increases your chance of catching covid.
    
    I know I might have had it once, I had one normal winter bug in July. Felt like just the usual, but I’ll never know if I have covid because I’ve never tested and never will. Just like I’ve never worn a mask and never will.
    Numerous vaccinated people I know have had 2 or more bouts of covid. I know, correlation is not causation, but the signals are all pointing in the same direction.

A couple of weekends ago on Sunday afternoon a couple of cars must have had a small coming together on an intersection near our house. There was a small amount of safety glass on the road, probably from a headlight. I drove by it a couple of times and it was soon only visible on the centreline and sides of the road. You could have swept it up with a broom in 10 minutes. Sunday afternoon, winter, Whitianga, barely a person or car around.

Enter Higgins road sweeper truck at 3pm, flashing light. Parks up alongside the glass. He sits there for 3 hours. About 6pm and getting dark 3 utes turn up with more flashing lights, cones placed for 100m 3 ways, stop/go flashing lights activated and traffic (all 2 cars) held up for 5 minutes at a time so the sweeper truck passes back and forth a couple of times. 7pm after retrieving the cones they all head off, no doubt another 2 hours or so with the meter running.

The sweeper truck must have been here already but I suspect the 3 utes came from Thames or further.

I shudder to think how much that cost the taxpayer.

  I had a similar experience this morning: in the past 2 weeks Higgins have been effecting a replacement stormwater sump in my Kapiti Coast street.
  
  Job: remove existing damaged/leaky sump, install new one, repair road.
  
  They did the last bit today ( just replacing the half-square-metre of road seal around the new grill ).
  
  This was indeed “peak personnel attendance” !
  SEVEN trucks of various types and sizes, and TEN men !
  
  I wonder if the Higgins management really know what is going on in their company ! Probably yes, and they are ripping-off the KCDC no end !
  
  To do a job any one of us could have finished in 30 minutes with a wheelbarrow and shovel. Unbelieveable.

She was having a bitch about abuse from the public I think. Now something is behind this. Paniora wanting to run the Council her way, the Moari way? You will not get rid of Craig Jepson using your own bullying methods.
This is the lawyer Councilor that wants to have meetings started with a Karakia and Mayor Craig Jepson stopped her. Karakia is NOT part of Council Business. Who is the senior in that Council?
She is a Public Sector employee, a person paid to represent the public.
Now she has gone running to the media.

Stuff are going to postpone their leaders debate. Can’t help but think that if the other Chris was sick that Nicola Willis would be able to handle the debate just fine. Carmel Sepuloni just is not up to it.

As an aside, I took the teenager to his first meet the candidates meeting on Friday. As we’re in Ohariu, Nicola Willis wiped the floor with Greg O’Connor and the Labour plants in the crowd. Paul Day, the ACT candidate, was really good as well – if that’s the quality of the 61st placed list candidate then their top 10 must be outstanding. Greg O’Connor got attacked for being too right-wing by a couple of attendees, he ended up being quite grumpy with the crowd.

How do people think Hipkins catching COVID will impact Labour vote wise?

I wonder if for some, who think Labour saved them, it might be a reminder of how ‘good’ Labour were. My wife thinks the opposite, that people were over Labour COVID and this might be a reminder that they have had enough.

Regardless I think it gives Hipkins a nice ‘out’ if he looses the election. ‘My campaign was severely hampered by COVID, not my fault’.

  I note that one of the state-funded reporters on TV last night referred to Mr Hipkins having “flu and cold-like symptoms “.

      Tom. Key and English improved the public service peoductivity and implemented a limited infrastructure construction program but were both very conservative which is why they didnt risk implementing Brashs recommendations to match Australia.
      
      Key and English also turned down the opportunity to use cheap finance to turbo charge NZs infrastructure.
      
      And Key did not leave a long term infrastructure commissioner and program in place to help combat the Labour idiots.

I got polled by Curia last night.
Most of the questions were sensible, but one was a bit odd I thought.

That asked whether I wanted the current system of council oversight or whether I wanted a more regionalised system with iwi etc thrown into the mix.

Now I personally think that for Canterbury, at least for a while, a regionalised structure is better, but not with all the iwi etc having their say. Pity that wasn’t really given as an option.

Why? Because we really need to think of Christchurch, Rangiora, Darfield and Rolleston as one metro area that needs to work together. Without that cooperation it is difficult to, say, set up roading that makes the whole work.

  Yes a regional approach can help and the ARA and its predecessors sort of worked but be careful that it is not the start of a decent into amalgamation.
  
  Wellington and Christchurch need to learn from Auckland’s mistakes.

Because supposed efficiencies are negated by larger, more expensive less flexible and less accountable bureaucracy – organisational energies end up focused on internal battles and mini-empire building, rather than doing the actual job.
  
  Just look at the ruinously expensive fiascos that have come from all Labours efforts to amalgamate health and education, and you can bet operating costs have gone up and services degraded as a result too.

      The Ranfurly Shield predates the NPC and Super Rugby. It was the only inter province competition; other games were friendlies. Apart from Test matches, a Shield challenge was the big game of the year. Bear in mind also that Test matches were few & far between: in some years, there were no All Black tests.

What is the future of NZ because of the lockdowns? Medical services in the US suffered, and they did in NZ. Ardern, the pink terror, Bloomfield, Baker, Plank, Hendy, are ALL responsible. Ardern ran, Bloomfield ran.

I think Jack Tame did the job that no other interviewer has managed – to show up Winston’s empty bluster. Other interviews usually leave me entertained and impressed at how Winston controls them. But this one showed all his tricks are tired, repetitive and vacuous. He looked as though he couldn’t answer. He sounded like the washed-up politician he is. I doubt he has the energy or the ability to make a constructive contribution to government and will spend his time obfuscating and grandstanding.
His denial of complicity in the actions of Ardern’s government was just laughable. If those incompetents could pull the wool over his eyes how on earth will he know what is going on with Luxon and Seymour running the show?
Jack Tame deftly showed us a a sad old man unable to face the reality that his day has gone.

  The Winston master stroke was talking to the protesters, the way that protest was distorted by Media and government has created a new band of supporters for NZF, from now on he will always get the protest vote.
  It was farcical the way those people were represented as a ‘river of filth’ for simply having a different view to Ardern & Co. As an old man I was able to wander around the protest site talking to very ordinary people, while feeling very comfortable about it. However when looking towards parliament with their barriers and rows of cops needed for protection, I could see them for what they are, it was all a sham. By supporting Winston the ‘river of filth’ are now having their say.

  I am no fan of Tame but yesterday he did his job and Peter’s had no answers to any of the questions put to him. When a political party is likely to be part of the next government, then it should be expected that the political party leader knows the details behind some of the policy they are campaigning on. Peter’s had no detail because there is no detail – his only aim is to get back to the trough and he couldn’t give a crap about the 5% or so of voters he has targeted to get him across the line.
  
  As an aside, yesterday’s interview showed that there is a real gap for a TV interviewer like Hosking who can hold left and right to account. Imagine if Tame did this to the left? He’d be essential viewing, much like the great Jeremy Paxman was in the UK – feared by politicians left and right.

  Yes, I appreciate the difference between legal and illegal immigration. And IMO the US needs to both (a) fortify its border with Mexico and (b) sort out its immigration laws, which are not fit for purpose.

I was very pleased to hear Christopher tell Hosk this morning, that under National, anyone charged with MURDER….. will under no circumstances be granted Electronic Bail.

What is frightening, was to read that we currently have 31 people who are awaiting trial
for murder, all out there walking among us!

Maori make up almost half with 15, then there’s 9 Euro, 4 PI, 1 Asian, and 2 of ‘unknown ethnicity’.

The only one WE actually know is Prof Philip Polkinghorne. He’s facing trail next year for the murder of his wife Pauline.

  Infections of various sorts have always increased the chance of heart failure.
  For example delaying treatment for a bad tooth can do it.
  I call bullshit that there is anything more onerous about CV19 than various flus etc through the ages.
  
  Spanish Flu was far more deadly and mainly killed younger, fitter people. It played merry hell amongst soldiers in training. Interestingly, deaths amongst older people were few. Maybe they’d got immunity from the Russian flu outbreak in the late 1800s?
  
  The only thing special about Covid is the “vax” and extra complications that has caused.

      Covid was and is, little worse than normal seasonal flu. Flu ‘vanished’ when covid arrived.
      
      Covid should be treated absolutely no differently to any seasonal respiratory illness which culls the most frail and elderly every single year.
      My retired doctor friend very early on in the fiasco told me how doctors call flu ‘the old man’s friend.’
      
      Also that lockdowns etc would only create ‘dry tinder’ for the following season. A crude term but the truth.
      
      Yes, if you’re concerned about catching it you should isolate. But don’t keep hyping covid as something spectacular compared to other respiratory illnesses.
      
      The only thing different about it is it was created by idiots in a lab so should never have existed in the first place.

        It was in the early days when I was trying to understand the risk of covid. My retired doctor friend’s point was simply that it is common that respiratory illness pushes sick and frail people at end of life over the edge. That I shouldn’t be too concerned as long as I was reasonably fit and health.
        Also, flu is one of the leading causes of pneumonia, ergo covid often led to pneumonia which meant it killed more people.
        
        The point is, Covid itself is not significantly different or more dangerous than flu, other than the fact it is man made, and the problems were exacerbated by the idiotic and panicked responses of most governments.

        Covid is approaching the point where it is little worse than normal seasonal flu. Because coronaviruses are the cause of normal head colds.
        
        What made Covid unique, especially in 2020 and 2021, was that it was *novel*. As in … none of our immune systems had ever seen it before. We were in the same situation as the Polynesians were when the first European explorers brought in measles and mumps.
        
        We all take head colds lightly because by the time we’re adults our immune systems have encountered them at least 20 times, and have learnt to quickly recognise them and quickly react to them.
        
        But with Covid in 2020 that wasn’t the case. And if your immune system was either (a) slow to react or (b) not able to mount a strong response (ie elderly) then the infection was able to overwhelm you before you can rally a fight against it.

        The reason there were so many deaths in the UK, and the US (not just NY), and in places like Italy, was that the elderly, in particular, were exposed to Covid before (a) effective social responses, like lockdowns and isolation, were in place, (b) effective treatments, like anti-virals, were available, and (c) vaccines were available. And it exposed how weak an elderly person’s immune system is.
        
        Locking down is one of the most sensible things to do in a real pandemic. It allows the infection that’s in the population to burn out because it can only work its way through each family group and then naturally stops.

        Sure, we naturally enough lockdown in family groups. Which means the infection can only pass through that family and then die out. And that process is replicated across each individual family group. But that is exactly the intent.
        
        If you’re even slightly aware then you saw all of that yourself here in NZ a few times in 2020. So don’t be a muppet.
        
        It is fair though to argue that lockdowns are hard yards for many people, and that the social costs need to be weighed against the health benefits. That’s a legitimate conversation to be had.

    One of the main reasons for the devastation caused by Spanish Flu was the era it occurred in. Sanitation and access to clean water was unheard of for many people.
    
    This contribution to poor health is downplayed by those making most out of the medical industrial complex. They don’t want a healthy population. They can’t make money out of that.

      What was really a stand-out statistic of the Spanish Flu was that it mainly killed healthy younger people. Normally a flu-like outbreak kills off the elderly.
      
      Some of that could have been that there was a war on, so many of the younger fitter people were concentrated in army barracks, trenches etc.
      
      But it seems that a more likely explanation was that the older people had immunity due to some prior infection.

        From what I’ve heard, the Spanish Flu triggered an immune overreaction, causing death through massive damage to the lungs – filling them with fluid. The strong immune systems of those aged approx. 20 to 40 thus became a liability.

    But they do get more attention now because the vaccine muppets, such as you, attribute them to the vaccines. You should put up actual medical evidence from a reputable medical study and journal showing how the vaccines lead to unexplained cardiac arrests, or shut up. But there is no recognised evidence of it, just the rantings of the conspiracy theorists fuelled by likes of “former Blackrock portfolio manager”.

        krazy, I’m not looking to get as many jabs into shoulders as possible. Personally I would have made the Covid vaccine strongly recommended for those over 40 and very much optional for those under 30.
        
        But the vaccines were a very useful tool in responding to Covid. There is no *reputable* evidence that the vaccines have serious side-effects, beyond a slightly increased risk of myocarditis in young men (hence make it optional for them).

      What is puzzling is that we have not had any of the health authorities doing the work they are supposed to do of analysing and publishing the data they have. This in itself is rather disturbing. Do they have something to hide?

      You may want to listen to some of Dr John Campbell’s videos on YouTube. He generally presents research papers and their findings, and usually from national heath organisations, but often also from other reputable researchers.
      Internationally, excluding deaths attributed to C-19, almost every country that had mandatory jabs is showing significant excess all cause mortality. The rates vary from about 5% to 15%, with spikes as high as 30% in some months. These numbers are normally against the 5 year average pre C-19.
      I’ve been following him for a long time now, and since he’s not presenting his own research, but that of other reputable research organisations, you can’t criticise him as not knowing what he’s talking about (he is a very experienced doctor). In context mostly what he does is show you the numbers.

Both the incidence and the severity of myocarditis in young adults is more than an order of magnitude higher from Covid infection than it is from Covid vaccine.

        Virtual – What you have not said is that young people are dying in greater numbers than previously recorded, that the spike (which is the toxin) is present in far higher concentrations (in multiple orders) following vaccination than infection, and that autopsy results where they have differentiated “covid spike” from “vaccine spike” show by far the majority (about 80%) of these deaths are from the vaccine.

    The major difference in health in 2021 was that we re-opened our borders. Covid began to circulate through the population and we saw a measurable number of Covid-driven deaths.

    The Vanuatu Government is refusing to say whether the Chinese have a debt-equity swap clause in the deal, which would mean China could take over the facility if Vanuatu defaults on its payments.
    
    That’s what happened with the Sri Lanka port of Hambantota (link below). When the Sri Lankans could meet debt payments, China took it over.
    
    There have been suggestions that China might build Marsden Point into a big container port. One of the motives suggested was to make it a link to South America, which doesn’t make sense.
    
    An example. It would take 45 days of “steaming” at 10 knots to ship goods from Hong Kong to Callao, Peru, via Auckland. That doesn’t include any time in Auckland for unloading and reloading. Shipping direct from Hong Kong to Callao would take 41 days.
    
    Why would China, with its burgeoning heavy industry, its flourishing car and electronics industries, want to invest in a motorway in NZ except for strategic, non-commercial reasons?

  The thing I don’t understand about three waters, and which has never been explained, is how labour conclude that ratepayers will not have to pay for water/waste infrastructure under three waters.
  
  One way or another, water infrastructure has to be paid through either rates, water bills, or general taxation. Because the same person pays all 3, the apportioned ratio is only of academic interest. If we subtract $100 water from rates, it just gets added to the water bill or one’s general tax liability.
  
  Robertson has never explained in detail how three waters will be funded.

  As I understand it, National have said no to Luxon debating the likes of Sepuloni saying it’s a leaders debate of Davis – personally I would have paid good money to see Luxon debate Davis!
  
  Further, National can’t make space in Luxon’s diary for a debate next week.
  
  While I understand not debating a Labour stand-in, they should have made time available for the debate next week. By refusing to make time next week, it gives Labour the opportunity to present Luxon as running away from the debate.
  
  Personally, I don’t think it matters that much as very few people will be swayed one way or the other, but by not accommodating a change to next week, all National have done is give free air space to the likes of Robertson, Woods and their media pals like Tova to throw shit out there about Luxon being scared.

Quite reasonable for Luxon not to have space for an alternative date in the next 12 days. Maybe he should have proposed Oct 15th!! But I can’t see why he didn’t agree to an alternative opponent – it would have been quite fun to see Kelvin in action.
Interesting timing for Hipkins to test positive. I had a good look at the image he posted of his test, to see if there were any clues. The serial number on the test was OAA49108074, all the tests I’ve had have been OAB sequence, even from 12 months ago, I wonder if Chippy was doing his bit to use up the expired RAT tests? Note that this is tongue in cheek. I don’t actually know if this serial number indicates the test was expired, as I couldn’t find out any information about the serial number scheme for the Orient Gene tests.

  No better team in the world at ripping up a soft opponent than the ABs. After the pool there won’t be anymore of those.
  
  RWC will be won by the front eight but most particularly the tight five. On past form they have been inconsistent and have lost many of the close games. Can they topple the Irish? Yes. Will they? It seems unlikely but time will tell.

    The relaxation the interchange rules in Rugby has changed the game and the All Blacks have not adjusted. They got done over by the Poms in the last World Cup and look to suffer the same fate again by being monstered by hulking great forward packs. No opportunity to run the heavy duty opposing forwards into the ground when 8 fresh replacements sit on the sideline.

This is outrageous

The financially troubled Ruapehu Alpine Lifts (RAL) is to get its fourth cash injection from the Crown in a year, with a $7 million announcement on Monday.

Liquidators PWC, which took over when RAL went into voluntary administration last year owing $45 million, have told Newshub they only enough cash to keep the skifields operating until the end of next month.

Newshub can reveal Cabinet has met to rubber-stamp a new $7.35 million support package to allow RAL to continue until March 2024.

Of that RAL gets a $4.3 million loan to continue operating both the Tūroa and Whakapapa ski fields until the end of March 2024.

People are still debating the issue of forestry slash polluting our rivers and beaches.

I really want to know why the govt is not taking any action on this. You can’t just dump your rubbish on other people’s property. It’s as simple as that, and no different to me unloading a tray of household rubbish onto Hipkins front lawn. Again, as we see with many issues in NZ, the problem appears to be a lack of enforcement of human rights. In this case, property rights.

Maybe you can call me cynical, but I believe the lack of action might have something to do with the fact that Māori iwi own 48% of all forestry in NZ, the remainder mostly owned by large multinational corporations and China, through the Chinese forestry group…

  A mandatory requirement for forestry harvesters to place an ID on the odd slash log might cause them to be a bit more careful about where they leave their trash and force them to pay for damage caused by their trash.

Will the incoming Government stifle a likely new wave of Japanese used-car imports?

Japan has blocked exports to Russia and used-car resellers will likely look to right-hand markets such as New Zealand to take some of the demand slack.

The Japanese Russian ban applies to all but sub-compact cars.

A question for pale-green political parties in the election run-up: will they allow in a surge of used-car imports from Japan – petrol powered, of course.
