We have this situation in New Zealand now where Academic’s with the help of this Labour Government have fucked our Eduction System which used to be world class and turned our youth into criminals with their alternative policy in trying change the Justice System to keep them out of Prison.
Now we have the idiots in the Media turning on National like Lloyd Burr taking shots at National for there Policy on crime. I would like to ask these one eyed bias arsholes to explain what they would do for the people that are effected by there want of no Prisons and a better deal for criminals where does the victim fit in all of this as most take years to recover from the violence, property stolen or burglary where there memories have been stolen also, it might help to address that problem before blame of the Party you apposed in Parliament.
I am sick to death of Journalists like Lloyd Burr, Virginia Wade ,Simon Wilson and many others on the News giving there personal view instead of the facts.

      Then he grewup and wanted to be a policeman(did I mention he had a maori heritage).
      
      Got posted to Dunedin a few years in and then resigned.
      
      Didnt you like it said, No loved it the people side, but totally pissed off with all the paperwork and restrictive rules.

    As such it can and should be treated as a debating platform, including criticism of National, ACT and other right-wing outfits.
    
    Not as you want it; an endless tub thumping exercise for National. There are plenty of people on this forum who have voted National (me included) and will again (not me, admittedly), and were doing so and criticising National even so, and were doing so years before you turned up.

    Some of us have a crack at National because they have never done what the say they will do in terms of rolling back this crap. Yeah, they may toughen up on crime, allow ACT to get 3 Strikes in….
    
    BUT the roots of the dysfunction are never properly addressed:
    
    1/ The welfare state and its over reach beyond being a safety net into a lifestyle. Thinking it through the slow morphing of Welfare State benefits into universal income (we are 60% through imo) is a Fabian approach to change in strategy. Ultimate objective is State control of all income sources and distribution. Labour lurch things to the left on the path to State control of income sources and distribution, National get in and trim it a bit BUT never roll it back properly… enter Labour a again and the ratchet it up again…
    
    2/ Education. National tinker – introduce some standards which teachers unions undermine…. all the while Teacher training is left in the hands of far left nutters – and via control of who BECOMES a teacher the Left ensures the Education system is subvert (its taken decades but again Fabianism in action – softly, softly catch the monkey)
    
    3/ Academia – well what can we say here, National never touch Universities and ignore the wellspring of vile, anti human left thought sitting on the tax payers dime coming up with every more extreme stupid crap like trans and even worse but coming trans-humanism (go look it up and who is pushing it)
    
    4/ Standing Bureaucracy. National never address this in any real way. The Left are baked in deep in local and central bureaucracies – and they spend their time pushing the Lefts agenda
    
    So get off your high horse and present a vision of rolling back this leftist crap and get NZ back into self reliance is my message to Luxon and the National Party.
    
    And when you get power: be decisive. 80/20 rule – don’t try to get it perfect but multi waves of change focused on 80 percent of your objectives in welfare, education, academia and public servants. Two waves achieving 80% of your overall objects gets to 96% (80% first wave then 80% of the remainder…..) pretty quickly
    
    Any Public Servant who opposes reform – retire them. Just remove them from power and refocus the Public Service on SERVICE not running their untested at the ballot box agendas
    
    So G stop bashing people and have a good solid look at your party and tell us how they are actually going to make things better – we don’t need another 9 years of Keyism better management. We need radical, root and branch reform

    Well apparently that’s what’s being investigated now.
    
    Rail Wlg-Akl, Wlg-Nap, Akl-Tga.
    
    So from a purely academic pov, I would be unlikely to take a train to Napier because I wouldn’t usually fly to Napier, I’d drive because I was going there for a visit. If for business, it would have to make the journey in 2-2.5 hours to be compelling against air.
    
    For a train trip Wlg-Akl the best option would be an overnight sleeper, or a day train would have to do it in less than 5 hours, and at half the price of an air fare to make me choose that

  Aha so that is where the pot hole repair money has gone. We were driving about half an hour out of New Plymouth on state highway 3 this week and, I kid you not, we saw a road worker with a small truck of asphalt and a bucket walk over to a pot hole, tip his bucket of asphalt into the pot hole, then stomp on it with his work boots.     The police have recently extended expected call times from 20-25mins to ~40mins, becuase staff are stretched.
    
    If we apply logic to those two facts we can only assume the Crime has increased significantly more than the number of police.

National’s plan to establish a third medical school is an excellent one, especially given how it has drawn out Labour shills to oppose it.

I really like the idea that more mature graduates can apply for admission. Rather than being largely restricted to those straight out of school, it provides an opportunity for those who have already pursued a career and developed some life experience to change course and do a four-year medical degree. I’m also delighted that the Waikato school will have a focus on training doctors to become GP’s or medical practitioners in the provinces and rural areas where there are some severe shortages.

National has already been in extended discussion with Waikato University, which is going to stump up $100 million towards the establishment cost of the school. Does Waikato see the writing on the wall in terms of who is leading the country later in the year?

Overall, this is a fantastic policy, with Dr Shane Reti’s fingerprints clearly evident. He is going to be an outstanding Minister of Health.

    Waikato university appears to be one of the more sensible universities and less woke to me. They have had Stephen Joyce working for them and seem to be one university to buck the downward enrolment trend and I haven’t heard that they are having redundancies like Victoria and Otago.

  Presumably the main issue would be the School’s proposed philosophy. It would seem its graduates would not rank equally with those from the two existing medical schools. This would raise registration issues. Should Waikato doctors be on a separate register or have their registrations endorsed? Would they be permanently barred from being specialists (or would there be a separate system of specialities)? Would NZ registration become internationally dubious (especially with respect to Australia)? Would pressure build over time to have Waikato graduates treated similar to other doctors? Would the Government allow registration of overseas doctors whose training would be similar to Waikato training, but who are currently refused registration?
  This also raises the issue of how strong is the correlation between academic excellence and the overall capability of day to day practice.
  If these issues can be successfully accommodated then go for it!
  Another option would be for Massey to expand its veterinary school teaching to include homo sapien patients since it currently covers every other species of animals.

    I’m sure it is more efficient to have a lecturer talking to 200 students than two lecturers for 100 students both in separate locations .
    
    Why have two separate infrastructures.

    The established (establishment) medical schools have resisted extensions for years. They are aimed at training specialists of the future and the medical fraternity is one of the strongest unions restricting supply. Do you remember when Australian eye doctors were being brought in by the Southland? DHB and the NZ college had them barred?
    
    A third school is necessary to scale up numbers and Hamilton is the best location next to the largest hospital in New Zealand. It is also necessary to have a separate school to train graduates, having a 4 year programme. You cannot have the five and four year training programmes running in the same school.
    
    Finally, the Waikato graduates will rank equally with other medical schools. Students will be selected at entry level for suitability/preference for GP practice so expect some quota for Maori and rural applicants. Thye know going in they will be discriminated against for acceptance on the specialist training programmes of the various colleges of surgeons etc.

    Why we need to train more doctors?
    
    New Zealand is training too few doctors to meet the needs of its growing and aging population and to accommodate the expected pattern of retirement of our existing health workforce. This lack of domestically trained doctors leads to longer wait times for treatment, particularly in rural and provincial parts of the country.
    
    According to GenPro, a collective of 1000 General Practices, 45 per cent of patients must wait a week or longer to see a doctor.¹ Data from Health New Zealand shows that around a quarter of patients must wait longer than four months for their first appointment with a specialist, and last year almost 300,000 patients spent longer than six hours in a hospital emergency department.²
    
    Why we need a third medical school?
    
    Despite being relatively large by international standards, the Auckland and Otago medical schools don’t produce enough doctors to meet New Zealand’s health workforce demands. According to the Medical Council of New Zealand, over 40 per cent of doctors in New Zealand were trained overseas, including 46 per cent of GPs, 54 per cent of rural hospital doctors, 58 per cent of emergency medicine doctors and over 64 per cent of psychiatrists.³
    
    New Zealand currently has one medical school for every 2.6 million people. That compares to one for every 2.1 million people in the US, one for every 1.5 million people in the UK, and one for every 1.2 million people in Australia.

    If we don’t ramp up GP training, we’re going to have a GP crisis before long; some would say an even worse crisis that we already have! The Waikato school will focus on training doctors for provincial and rural areas, and for GP work. That in itself is a good reason for setting it up.
    
    National campaigned on this in 2017; Labour kicked the can down the road. It’s long-term thinking by National, and I suspect Shane Reti has played a huge role in developing this.

      Doesn’t really answer the question of why we need a third Med school (as opposed to needing more doctors). Dunedin Hospital is not huge & there are limits to how many students a Consultant can drag around in his wake, which is why Otago has satellite campuses in Chch & Wgtn.
      
      But – no point in training more doctors if they don’t stick around. We badly need to bond them for n years of service, in return for remitting a proportion of their student loans.

    The overhead to set up a new school with admin staff tutors etcetc which will take years to build & setup.
    
    Surely given the severe shortage maybe increase current class sizes by 10%? No extra/new admin/management staff. Current tutors should be able to handle 10% more students.
    
    Or indeed some extra tutors but split shift classes.
    What percenatge of medical school facilities are unused every day.?
    Its a crisis. Move to crisis management and maximise facilities to produce more graduates. AND do away with the racist selection criteria. Get the brightest and the best starting in 2024.
    
    Yep maybe some physical work to increase lab sizes will be needed.
    But should be able to be in action for the 2024 year.

  Otago and Waikato are, quite frankly, back waters. Not really the places for medical schools. That is, in part, why Otago med school has a satellite campus at Christchurch hospital.
  
  NZ could function with one med school done right. More is not better. We have limited resources in NZ and it makes sense to pool them together rather than spread them out.

What should happen, is they should close all the other schools and satellites and get them back to Dunedin. It literally doesn’t matter where it is, as long as it’s excellent.

      Otago med school is not a backwater. Dunedin is.
      
      That is why Otago med school has a satellite campus at Chch – to expose the students to the resources available at Chch hospital rather than the meagre resources at Dunners hospital.
      
      If you’ve ever been around a hospital, you’ll have seen swarms of med students following the specialists on their rounds. This is a large part of the doctors’ roles: helping with education of the next batch. This is easier to do at Chch than Dunners because there are far more doctors.
      
      Apart from a the med school and a few niches like surveying, Otago is munted as a university. What they should to is shut it down, then amalgamate the good bits with U Canterbury and relocate everything worth saving to Christchurch and flush the rest.
      
      If Otago med school didn’t exist and they were starting a new med school in South Island then it would be in Christchurch. It makes sense because you need a large teaching hospital.
      
      Building a new medical university far from large city is stupid. Waikato is a dumb idea. Expanding Auckland is a good idea. Expanding Otago is problematic, but relocating Otago med school to U Canterbury and expanding that could potentially be a good idea too.

  A 4 year medical degree! It sounds as if the idea of barefoot doctors has reached a (allegedly) first world country.
  
  Currently after going through medical school (5 years) and 2 years of internship to get a Fellowship with the NZ College of GP’s a doctor has to do a General Practice Educational Program which takes at least 3 years. Total 0f 10 years. Surely Reti knows that.

      Yes. It is either hotter today, or cooler today than in the past based on when one picks the starting point. It helps be able to disappear the MWP, and ‘adjust’ older temperatures down and modern ones up … but that’s a bayesian data crime that will catchup with the perpetrator.

        Bullion – can you explain to me in simple terms why historic temp figures have to be adjusted downwards – sometimes repeatedly and why the data has been hidden from us? I believe Michael Mann (of the hockey stick graph derived from tree rings – actually only 1 tree) has them. You could probably enlighten us as to what the error is with mercury thermometer readings – and how they align with the currently used electronic sensors.
        
        While you are about it, seeing global warming is causing catastrophic rises in sea levels, explain why the records from when sea levels were fist measured show a linear rise and not an accelerating rise.         mawm – satellite measurements (indirect measurements that infer temperature) need correcting because of drift – satellites slow down and their altitude changes, so the data needs to reflect those changes so measurements are comparable.

      However both subjectively and objectively June in Christchurch was much warmer than my lived experience and anyone I talk to. That is all I was saying. Yet it has triggered these passionate observations about the politics of climate change 😂

      BY – exactly, saying this month was warmer than usual shouldn’t be a cue for climate change prophecies of doom. Weather was always the boring topic of conversation in the UK when you didn’t have anything interesting to talk about.
      
      June 1976 was the hottest summer in ‘living memory’ at the time. It was brilliant, and nobody decided that the world was going to end.
      Of course, 1977 the summer was wet and miserable.
      
      Nobody talks about that one, surely if there is a hot year/month and it’s used to support the man made climate change madness, then conversely a cold year/month means the climate is cooling?
      
      Cherry picking data to support an argument is not science and it is not proof that we are in mortal danger of the planet burning up.
      Humans have an astounding ability to grossly exaggerate their own relevance and influence on miniscule a rock in space. People need to get a grip of themselves.

    Temperature records are tricky. Niwa’s famous 7 station series show warming was fake. When the adjustments were taken out, it was flat. I understand the need to calibrate retrospectively a temperature series. But each adjustment would need consistent and explained reasoning following an established protocol. Niwa had lost the workings for the adjustments. That so called warming in their web page and government reports had no basis. No problem. After much to-ing and thro-ing — climate change is real, don’t you know — they produced an 11-station series. Look! It’s warming.
    
    When I asked them what their testable hypothesis was they said there wasn’t one. Rather, there were hundreds of testable hypotheses in thousands of papers — peer reviewed — which settled the science.
    
    What NIWA does in climate is not science.
    
    We saw the same through the pandemic. Ideologues masquerading as doing science but unable to think and reason critically and test critically ideas. Indeed, they shut down debate and questions.
    
    It’s Soviet science sadly.

        I don’t know. I do know measuring temperature and declaring a trend is fraught. I have enjoyed Anthony Watts work over many years actually documenting the temperature stations. It would be funny if only such weight wasn’t attributed to the result. It’s a bit like covid deaths! Or excess mortality. There’s plenty of room for mischief.

        I have studied climate change for 32 years with a passing interest before that. The entire time I have been eager to discover I was wrong. It was James Renwick who told me there were hundreds of testable hypotheses.
        
        Why would I spend 40 dollars and read a book by a guy who doesn’t know what science is?
        
        Instead of telling me to read a book, how about telling me what possible fact would prove to you mankind is not causing catastrophic warming. That’s not hard. I can think of several.

        Rodney its basic physics. Scientists knew of the effect certain gases have on trapping heat for more than a century, and more than a century ago suggested the release of greenhouse gases, specifically CO2, would have an impact on the climate.
        
        CO2 molecules absorb infrared light at a few wavelengths, but the most important absorption is light of about 15 microns … Incoming light from the sun tends to have much shorter wavelengths than this, so CO2 doesn’t stop this sunlight from warming the Earth in the first place. But when the Earth re-emits this light, it has a longer wavelength, in the infrared spectrum.

        I don’t think you nor I need to understand it down quantum mechanics. Fine to know that some gases are transparent to radiant heat while other gases are quite opaque.
        
        What Tyndall had demonstrated unambiguously, and indeed for the first time, was the absorption and radiation by certain gases of what we now call long-wave infrared radiation. He had demonstrated the physical basis of the greenhouse effect. And he knew what he had shown. He wrote: “Thus the atmosphere admits of the entrance of solar heat; but checks its exit, and the result is a tendency to accumulate heat at the surface of the planet”.
        
        He also realised the implications for understanding climate, writing: “if, as the above experiments indicate, the chief influence be exercised by aqueous vapour, every variation of this constituent must produce a change of climate. Similar remarks would apply to the carbonic acid [carbon dioxide] diffused through the air”. And he went on: “Such changes may in fact have produced all the mutations of climate which the researches of geologists reveal”.
        …
        What is clear is that our understanding of the greenhouse effect, its mechanism, and its implications, rest on many shoulders. That history includes Fourier, Pouillet, Foote and Tyndall, in addition to Svante Arrhenius, who calculated in 1896 the temperature rise in the atmosphere that would be caused by a doubling of carbon dioxide levels, and Guy Callendar, who showed in 1938 that human activity was responsible for increasing carbon dioxide levels, and hence of potential climate change.

        Bullion what’s missing in your understanding is that there is an inverse logarithmic relationship between rising Co2 levels and the green house effect. The absorption bands are mostly saturated already. As a result Co2 has a minimal effect on the greenhouse effect now. This affects the sensitivity of the climate to rising Co2. Numerous papers show low sensitivity of the climate to rising Co2. Alarmists just try to smear those presenting these totally valid scientific findings. That smearing is deeply pathetic and endangers scientific progress.

      My understanding is that at least one thermometer used in CHCH is / was in a little box in the Gardens. Asside from the older ones being mercury based, we know that the temperatures under trees change. Who knows over the years when and what trees grew over the gauges. Were the gauges moved over the years, I believe that some were moved to the airport recently.
      
      Not saying the figures are wrong BUT due to technology and placement of gauges much of the historical data might need to be taken with a grain of salt.
      
      I might also add that you cant take temperature in isolation. It is warmer when it is wet and cloudy. June 2023 was significantly wetter and more overcast then June 2022.

        It’s OK Benedict – its the same in Tauranga. It has been the wettest June – and summer so far – that I have experienced in this region. Apart from 10 years in Oz, I have lived here all my life. I’m not surprised with the claim that it is the warmest June in history since RECORDS BEGAN IN 1979, as TVI breathlessly announced.
        But its not the warmest June in history. Get hold of undoctored reports for 1934 and you will see what I mean. Or for that matter, scientific reports from the Roman period & Medieval Warm period.

        The large wooded white slatted box is called a Stevenson screen. A hundred years ago they were whitewashed. About 50 years ago they started painting them. The paint absorbs and radiates differently to the whitewash so the temperatures measured are slightly higher. Anthony Watts did an experiment which showed this.
        
        Also, about the same time, the Stevenson screen size was reduced from about 200 litres to 60 litres.
        Guess what, the temperatures went up.
        
        To make matters worse, at the end of the 20th century they started using electronic Minimum Maximum Temperature Sensors. (MMTS)
        Because these had an underground wire to the building where the computer was located, they were often located close to buildings. This causes a small heat island effect and so the temperatures being measured are higher.
        
        Then there is the fact that the electronic recordings take a reading every second which causes temperatures to be higher than when using a mercury thermometer.
        
        The point is that the way that temperatures are measured has changed over time in ways that always increase the temperature being recorded.
        
        And that is before you try to take into account the Urban Heat Island effect.
        
        None of these have been properly accounted for in the official temperature record which means the claims of “warmest ever” need to be taken with a truckload of salt.

An economic threat more immediate than any climate effects is receiving scant attention.

This is an international business debt market that spiralled to $US1.5 trillion.

Reuters reports on the collaterised loan obligations market, which packages debts of weak companies and markets them as as CLO bonds.

The market is drying up as interest rates rise, the news agency reports.

“S&P Global estimates that more than one in 25 U.S. businesses and almost one in 25 European companies will default by March 2024,” the article says.

“U.S. companies with speculative credit ratings, who dominate global CLO loan pools, need to refinance around $US354 billion of debts by end-2024, then a further $US813 billion in 2025 to 2026, S&P estimates.”

  It happens, what does skin colour have to do with it? She was in the hospital waiting for the operation and usually when that happens it is because an accident or an emergency case has needed the theatre. Can also happen due to staff illness/shortages. The waiting time for the op also isn’t because of what ever her skin colour is, it is because the health system is screwed still from the Covid shutdowns of the hospitals and the staff fired or quitting.

Got a good dose of Labour Adds in my letter box yesterday.

What a hoot. Chippies is labeled something like focusing on the basics and talks about how Labour are helping deal with cost of living issues. You know the problem they caused.

Then I get one from the local MP Sarah pallet, title Sarah gets things done. The multi page booklet talks about how she attended a meeting (organised by others) to discuss changing a pedestrian crossing. Work to be started on an undefined future date. Also how she championed a bill around ‘light polution’, also yet to be actioned.

Talk about an own goal. Sarah gets things done, except nothing she talks about has happened. Labour focused on the basics, except that the local MP is focused on the essential issue of ‘light pollution’.

You just cant make this shit up.

  Deal with cost of living? Be interesting to see what the petrol tax does to cost of living. Everything going up, power, food, rates, etc. The winter energy payments the pensioners have got are already gone on the increasing cost of living, food banks are experiencing much greater need.     There is no problem that Labour can’t solve by throwing more money at it.
    With the ever rising govt debt, waiting for NZ credit downgrade from rating agencies. That will mean paying higher interest on our national debt.
    With the current 6.8% inflation, soon we will see people on minimum wage paying 30% tax bracket.

  NZ also makes an extensive range of good quality, synthetic carpet.
  Also wool is not nearly as ‘green’ vs synthetic as most people believe. It’s a nice myth. Though wool does have better wear qualities and is easier to clean in most instances. Synthetic is more stain resistant.

The Hastings District Council hopes that a temporary two-lane Redclyffe bridge, at Waiohiki, will be ready by the end of July.
Just over five months after Cyclone Gabrielle, having being delayed because of further bad weather from the original end of June date.

Interesting – I have just had a call from someone at Parliament asking if I still wanted to submit personally on my submission re 3/5/All/Affordable Waters. As si=ubmissions are by zoom or similar I declined – it is not my thing. I mad it clear that I would have done so `face to face’ had they come to Hawkes Bay.

When I asked if this lot of submissions would be discarded and ignored as Mahuta did with the first tranche I was assured that all submissions would be read and considered this time.

Easy to say I guess but maybe this time we will be heard.

I remember when

Professor Andrea Alfaro, AUT researcher, about her trip to China.
She was bussed along the coast for about three hours, during which time every bit of ocean she saw out of the window contained cages for growing abalone.
It was farms as far as the eye could see.
Imagine a NZ mussel farm, multiplied by hundreds and hundreds.
For every abalone farm she saw there were also hectares of seaweed farms to feed them.
She also saw massive cargo ships – ‘hollow and like giant swimming pools’ – filled with more abalone farms.
One of these ships is said to produce NZ’s total annual production.

She didn’t mention how many Greenpeace, Sea Shepherd, Legasea protesters she saw – or even local tourism operators.

Still it’s great to operate on an even playing field!

Can anyone tell me if a Maorl voter changes from the Maori roll to the General roll (or vice versa) if there is any checks and balances done to ensure that they don’t end up on two rolls and consider they have 2 votes?
I can just see in November of this year hu dress of votes being pluralised and another gerrymandering of the poll.

China has become the big player in the world market for nickel, critical for making electric-car batteries, by improving a metal refining process and investing in Indonesia.

Five years ago, Indonesia had no nickel plants, now they are being built rapidlly.

The Wall Street Journal says nickel ore in Indonesia, laterite, had been difficult to process. The Chinese adapted a process around for a long time but regarded as flawed and difficult. With what the newspaper describes as “tweaks,” China found a way to make the process, HPAL – high pressure acid leach, work economically.

This has given China dominance of the Indonesian nickel industry, and Indonesia has moved being a marginal supplier of nickel for car batteries in 2017 to accounting for half the world supply last year.

Has the country’s health mess – a shortage of 5000 nurses, hundreds, perhaps thousands of general-practice doctors and nurses – come about since the introduction of the MMP electoral system in 1996?

Bolger, Shipley, Clark, Key, English, Ardern, Hipkins ….

Successively, they were on the political bridge. Why didn’t they see the health iceberg looming ahead of the national ship?

Or is everyone focused on the political ship’s crew, and who will do what? Is everyone preoccupied with coalitions and polls about potential coalition members?

  It’s a consequence of economic mismanagement that sees NZ wages slipping behind the world, and mismanagement of health systems – various administrative and policy choices that has made the work increasingly unpleasant and unattractive compared to other opportunities available. A few months back I saw a forum thread with comments from a number of doctors saying they’d cut back on hours because of shitty conditions and high marginal tax rates. Why work more hours when govt takes 40+% ?

  The pic in the Ferald caption reads a car similar to the one shown, which is indeed not a 2023 model car. Why the useless buggers couldn’t cut and paste a 2023 model car from a RR brochure must come down to laziness which doesn’t surprise me.

  At what age does having a house become a human right ? At birth ? At 16 ?
  Do we each get a house of our own or do we have to share?
  Can we choose the city ? The suburb ?
  Is there any benefit (pun intended) from working for a living ? Is food a right also ? Something to drink ?
  Does the State also have to feed my family ? My pets ? Mow my lawn ?
  
  So many rights. So few responsibilities.

Why did this review take 4 years ? Pretty bloody obvious: no end date was stipulated and the committee stretched it out so they were paid millions more than they should have received.

Maori party’s first candidate to stand on general electorate

Freeloaders can “bugger off” and she’s sick of seeing people walking around Rotorua with “their bloody pyjamas on”.

But Merepeka Raukawa-Tait is worried the poor are being demonised and Rotorua is becoming a city of two halves: “Those who have and those who don’t.”

Raukawa-Tait believes the main political parties have failed Rotorua – including by selling off state housing, doing a “shoddy” job of assessing who legitimately needed emergency housing and draining Rotorua’s police and health resources with too many MIQ hotels.

Manitoba MP suggests Canada, allies aware of ‘recovered UAP’ or UFO materials in note to defence minister

A Manitoba member of Parliament wrote Canada’s minister of defence this spring suggesting the country has participated in a secret multi-nation program devoted to “the recovery and exploitation” of material from unidentified aerial phenomenon, more commonly known as unidentified flying objects or UFOs.

Last week, the podcast Weaponized published a letter that appears to be from Brandon-Souris MP Larry Maguire addressed to Defence Minister Anita Anand on March 22, 2023. Other copies appeared online weeks earlier.

Citing meetings with unnamed “American officials,” Maguire suggests Defence Research and Development Canada “is in possession of recovered UAP material.”

“As Minister of National Defence, you may not be aware [DRDC] has participated in efforts to analyze UAP,” reads a portion of the letter.

“It is incumbent your department inform you what collaborative efforts have occurred with our allies and the details of existing agreements and memorandum of understanding that govern the program and may have been co-ordinated through Global Affairs.”

The letter refers to a “Five Eyes Foreign Material Program” Maguire says exists between Canada, the U.S., U.K., Australia and New Zealand that has been sponsored by Canadian Forces Intelligence Command Canada.
