  They are an offshoot of Te Punaha Matitini. TPM have received many millions in funding from the government since the start of covid.
  Undoubtedly the money comes indirectly from the government. Though I do know that The Wellcome Trust also put money into Auckland University as does the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

    The Disinformation Project is part of the Auckland research centre, Te Punaha Matatini, famed for Siouxie Wiles and Shaun Hendy over Covid. Hendy was the founder of the centre and its first director.
    
    The Tertiary Education Commission, a Crown agency, has promised Te Punaha Matatini $4 million a year until the end of 2028. The State-owned University of Auckland provides Te Punaha Matatini with accommodation.

  On the face of it co-governance a sharing of power sounds benign. But in the case of NZ its not. Its dangerous and also a breach of international law.
  Take Health the first cab off the co-governance rank. The Maori Health Authority will have a right of veto over the funding for the Non-Maori Health Authority.
  This means that rather than universal funding as at present, funding will be decided on the basis of race.
  As I have posted before this is a breach of Article 7 of the UN Declaration on Human Rights ironic given NZ has always followed UN dictates.
  The same will apply to Education and other Government services. Rather than recieving services based on need it will be based on race. This is both racist and apartheid ironic given this country campaigned against South Africa for decades for doing the same thing.
  The only way to stop this racism is for KBers to spread the word. The paid for MSM wont.

    You can also encourage as many people as possible to record their ethnicity on MyHealth records as ‘NZ-Maori”. Even if you’re not Maori why wouldn’t you? No proof needed, just change it.
    If everyone identifies as a Maori then we all get treated the same. And don’t feel guilty in doing it – we didn’t make up these silly racist rules!!

  I think the researchers at the Disinformation Project are way out of their depth.
  
  Dr Hattotuwa in discussing the online hatred directed to the Trans community stated that there was an “extremely strong correlation” between online hate and the possibility of violence.
  
  He’s expressed his view as if it is based on some correlation analysis.
  
  A strong correlation between 2 variables is usually confirmed if the correlation coefficient (r) is around 0.7; and a very strong correlation between 2 variables would indicate r is around 0.9.
  
  So how did Dr Hattutowa establish that there was an extremely strong correlation between his 2 variables (incidence of online hate, possibility of violence)?
  
  How can you measure the frequency of something that may or may not happen sometime in the future?

  The level of vitriol directed at the freaks and weirdos is not because they’re freaks and weirdos – like most people I couldn’t give a crap what people do in the privacy of their own bedrooms.
  
  It is the way they violently attacked women, assaulted them, shut them down, and then claimed victim status. Stop negating women, stop grooming kids, stop shouting down and attacking people with different views and opinions, and leave me the hell alone.

    I remember when this was the argument for gay marriage – that spilled out of people’s bedrooms and into all facets of society very very quickly didn’t it?
    
    How about taking an attitude that some things are right, and some things are wrong, in this case the concept of transgenderism, which aside from being immoral is also physically impossible. When nobody has any standards and accepts anything, then this will be the result. It amazes me that so many people don’t notice this pattern, but love to complain when the consequences manifest themselves.

  I feel I have finally reached a point of understanding what is happening in New Zealand. The current Government is immersed in an ideology called intersectionalism which views society as made up of distinct groups which are either victims or dominant. The Government is funding the media to promote the victim groups and also organisations like the Disinformation Project to attack critics of the ideology and provide a protective umbrella around the victim groups. The Government with its abusive reaction to followers of Posie Parker has exhibited hatred towards the citizens of New Zealand who they see as dominant. I hate to think where this could end up and really hope this Government is voted out this year.

  Fun fact: it was not until after the collapse of the USSR that it was revealed that Gargarin had actually ejected from his spacecraft before it landed.
  
  The reason for that approach was that the Soviet engineers were not entirely sure about their landing rocket system that fires about 3m off the ground to cushion the impact.
  
  The reason why they didn’t reveal it was that the manned flight records of the day – regarding altitude, speed, etc (which would soon be rendered meaningless by spaceflight anyway) – required the pilot to remain with his vehicle from takeoff to touchdown.

      Jet fighters, swept wing studies etc. Advanced tech, sure.
      
      But in terms of deployable, industrial technology they were behind, with the P-51 Mustang easily as good as any German fighter (certainly better than ME-109) and the Germans never developing a 4-engined, long-range bomber and still relying on the obsolete Stuka for ground-attack at wars end while Typhoons, Tempests, Mosquitos and other types poured down on German ground units.
      
      Also, for all the other advanced tech their radar and bombsights were never as good as the Allies.

        Tom, although the Germans did not have the aircraft, they had the technological design and engineering expertise. So much so, that many German scientists and engineers were expatriates to the US. Many worked on military rocket programmes and were part of the US space programme.

      What G really means they will still steal paid for local assets, but instead of 4 regional bodies co-governed by iwi, there will 10 bodies co-governed by iwi. Just means the Maori elite will (apparently) use a number of corporate structures to do what they were originally going to do. Control NZ’s water assets and still make all consumers pay for the privilege of the ownership by Maori.

        If I understand 5 waters it goes something like this. We the government borrow millions of dollars to buy assets the public already own to gift fifty percent to 17 percent of the population based on ethnicity who as equal members of the population already own them in the same way as the rest of us. Seems ligit.
        Why can’t the government just fund those councils that need the help and leave everything as is. Unless of course cleaning up the water systems isn’t what the purpose of the exercise is and rather it’s the Labour Party trying to make amends to the Māori hierarchy for failing to deliver foreshore and seabed. Because hey don’t worry about what the majority of stake holders want worry about the Labour Party and it’s Māori support.

      The idea that some “economies of scale” (whatever they could possibly be, they’ve never given examples) are going to save ratepayers money at the same time as creating multiple bureaucracies and the “thousands of jobs” that Mahuta claimed is just a nonsense. Quite how they chose Scotland as a model for water services delivery in New Zealand isn’t clear either, ending up with the Water Industry Commission for Scotland seems like you’ve had to go a long way and do a lot of shopping around to find someone who will write the report you want to receive

  It is contained to the West by Nato but nothing to the East apart from individual treaties.
  
  It is obvious that they want to bring back and larger version of SEATO which will include the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia. Maybe Taiwan.
  
  China must be held within the First Island Chain otherwise we have a remake of the Pacific War with the Allies “Island Hopping” or having to fight up through PNG and Philippines.

    fightingtemeraire – It’s not the 1940’s anymore, so any war between USA & China/Russia will go nuclear reasonably quickly. None of these ‘super powers’ have the ability to invade and conquere (US has lost every war it has fought since WW2 – couldn’t even beat Afghanistan).
    Let’s hope enough countries don’t get sucked into the US warmongering narrative and somehow they pull their head in.

She is devoid of any interest in anything other than extending her control of domestic assets for the betterment of those close to her and her word soup simply reflects her lack of knowledge, interest and intellect. Wonder if anyone from MahutaCorp has been appointed to any high ranking spots in any diplomatic positions overseas during her tenure as Foreign Minister. Nothing like looking after your own after all and she has a record of ensuring close family members are now sucking on the Government teat as hard as they can within New Zealand.

Why is the PM not being asked how Maorification is going to solve any problems (actual or perceived) NZ has with regard to Water services (supply, distribution, and disposal)?
He was on TV yesterday making excuses for Nanaia Mahuta and the vitriol directed at her whilst legislating for 3Waters. He is now in a position where he can remove her from the job, scrap the legislation, and return all assets to their rightful owners, but he won’t.
A pox on all concerned.

  About 22,000 people are affected. As far as I can see these are people who (or their accountants) are required to file IR3 tax forms (self employed, own rental property or investments etc), and who had to claim the cost of living payment but failed to do so. They may not have realised they were entitled to it. Eligible people who do not need to file IR3’s but where IRD knows their bank account number would have received the payment automatically since IRD would know if they were entitled based on PAYE information supplied by employers and WINZ.
  So it is not as if the Government has decided to make these payments to more people.

  There was a recent government (Labour Party?) ad with Hipkins congratulating the Party on the biggest ever increase to benefits.
  How disingenuous! The increase was an automatic adjustment based on the inflation which was driven up by the Labour party. The media did their part by asking people they will spend this extra largesse from the new Prime Minister (as if it was his gift).
  
  Labour have worked out ages ago that they do not have to worry about policy, performance or deliverables as long as they control the message. Hence Willie Jackson was pleased to confirm that TVNZ are “working with us” after getting rid of ex National MP as CEO.

It’s a brain teaser, Maggie, to keep older minds active. I think she’s saying we should participate in international forums so that we can make our interests and opinions known.
Apparently, the war in Ukraine has made the world realise that war has impacts beyond its immediate theatre, even affecting our part of the world.
Also, it seems that Ukraine has been able to defend itself thanks to international support and we need to appreciate this as a change in global dynamics.

It’s possible you realised international forums were for the exchange of ideas and opinions when you got old enough to pay attention to the news a few years ago. You may have learned that war far away can affect New Zealand when you were taken to visit any War Memorial on ANZAC day as a young girl.
That the international support Ukraine has received represents a change in global dynamics is would be more surprising if you were old enough to remember previous international alliances for war. But patience, one day you too will reach that glorious age.

Further details have been revealed into the voting out of West Coast Regional Council chairman, Allan Birchfield, last month.
They must be on the brink of having to have a commissioner appointed.
Obviously the council are facing financial pressures and probably reflecting the difficulties smaller councils have with getting, and retaining, experienced staff.

Our pacifist Labour govt under Helen Clark decided to disband the strike wing of our NZ air force of 18 Skyhawks in the early 2000’s because they believed it was a waste of money and no rogue/thug nation would ever cause trouble in the pacific.

How shortsighted and naive was Helen Clark on this matter considering what’s happening now!

      I think that the loss of trained pilots and technicians is the big problem. To get it restarted is unaffordable; conversion to new planes is not. We lost the institutional knowledge that gets passed on from generation of pilot/technician to generation. Add to that the training with our closest allies that ensures communication and procedures already there when needed.

I just don’t understand women. After the last child was born, she told me we had to cut back on expenses, and that I had to give up drinking beer. I was not a big drinker; maybe a a dozen stubbies on weekends.
Anyway, I gave it up but I noticed the other day she came home from grocery shopping and when I looked at the receipt and saw $45 in makeup.
I said, “Wait a minute. I’ve given up beer and you haven’t given up anything!”
She said, “I buy that makeup for you, so I can look pretty for you.”
I told her, “Hell, that’s what the beer was for!”
And that’s when the fight started.

Totally agree. Living in the southern part of the electorate there is confusion amongst non Labour supporters. They like Matt and admire him for talking to the Wellington protestors. On the flip side they are afraid that they will split the anti Labour vote. Luxon if he has any political sense will pull National out. Its interesting that Hipkins has given our MP Jean Willow Prime a higher profile. She has been invisible.

I note in the last week that the media’s favourite “top economist” Shamubeeb Eaqub has been blathering about Super. “Of course, the Boomers wrote a blank cheque to themselves against their future generations”, and “They should have saved for it. It’s an outrage. It’s an outrage”. As our resident socialist economist, Eaqub believes that if you have done well (how well, as with all socialists, is never defined) you should not be able to claim Super, only the “poor” (whomever they are) should receive it. My understanding is that Age Pension and Universal Super were bought in around 1938/39 and the abolition of the asset test was in 1960. So, Eaqub’s claim that boomers have written a blank cheque is false. The cheque was written a good while before boomers got into any position to sign it. People like Eaqub always seem to want those with some means to pay everyone else’s expenses. Though whilst Eaqub thinks the “rich” should pay, I bet you in the last 5 years, he has made no voluntary payments to the IRD to assist those same poor. It’s all good if someone else has to put their hand in their pocket.

Labour and the Greens have a lot of ‘soft’ support that will erode during a winter characterised by ongoing inflation and rising interest rates. Further revelations of governmental incompetence are also likely. And many who say they will vote Labour will probably stay home on election day. It’s a bloody shame reading about the death of an inexperienced diver 3 years ago.

According to the reports, they blame nitrogen narcosis and oxygen poisoning.

I have doubts about oxygen poisoning as that is typically slow and only starts to become a worry much deeper (maybe 80 metres).

Nitrogen narcosis, on the other hand, is really fast and reverses really fast too. Inexperienced, fit, divers are particularly prone to it.

In 1985 I did some chamber “dives” in a military facility outside Pretoria to 60 metres or so. 8 or so people get into a decompression chamber and it is pumped with air until it reaches the desired pressure to mimic the desired depth.

One of these dives stands out. Although I was pretty experienced, almost all the others were not. 5 or so of them were inexperienced, but hyper-fit, cops who were on a police diving course. None had been diving for more than 3 weeks but had been doing very intensive training – diving at least once a day during their course. Perfect candidates to get narced.

When we got to about 45 metres they were all off their trolleys – acting like they were well into the booze.

Another was a non-cop who did not know them and he became hugely paranoid and wanted to be let out. He climbed into the ante-chamber and was returned to the “surface”, leaving me and the narced cops. I had handled a lot of pissed people when running pubs at uni so it didn’t worry me much.

Outside the chamber we had the SA Navy head dude in charge of diving medicine. He saw this as an opportunity for an experiment not to be missed. Everyone else outside wanted to abort the dive but he wanted to keep going. I said OK and the narced cops were all government property (I was in the Army at the time, so I suppose I was too). He kept the dive going and the narced cops got even more narced when we got to 60m. It really looked like they were pissed beyond belief. I was ok (been much deeper), but I tried doing some writing and solving some basic arithmetic and that was a challenge.

After staying at 60 metres for about 5 minutes (38 years ago, so I don’t really recall the exact time) we started the ascent. At about 40 metres the cops started becoming clear headed and at 30 metres they were normal again. From “pissed” to “sober” in less than a minute.

So it is really easy for me to see that the fit and inexperienced Woody Patterson could get narced and disoriented in only 50m depth – particularly with another 50+ metres of open water below him. When you can’t see the surface or the bottom it is really easy to lose your bearings if you are inexperienced.

Underwater is no place for inexperienced people to exceed the limits. They had enough training to have known better. Sorry mate – no undo button.

  The worrisome thing about nitrogen narcosis is that it affects people differently for a variety of reasons.
  
  You can dive to the same depth with the same air on two different days and have different experiences. A good night’s sleep, a drink or two the night before can result in a different experience.
  
  On different days I have been mildly narced at 30M and not felt any apparent effect at 40M.
  
  Don’t have the certification to dive deeper than 40M so have no personal experience.

Act leader David Seymour called the decision “Hermit Kingdom redux, 2023 edition”, saying in a statement that it was “draconian”. He urged the Government to follow the likes of Singapore, the UK and Australia.

Microbiologist Siouxsie Wiles argued against following other countries’ leads.

“While some people will argue this puts us more out of step with other countries, it is worth remembering that, if we had followed those countries at the beginning of the pandemic, thousands more of our friends, families and colleagues would have died and thousands more would be out of the workforce due to long Covid.”

You only have to look at the current statistics to disprove this BS

I have always considered myself a hard working productive person; you know when you’re not feeling 100% but still get up and do what needs to be done. You do this for primarily your family, but also for your self esteem.
The problem I have after almost 6 years under a socialist government, is that I have a general feeling of lethargy and despondency.
I no longer feel aspirational, just thanking my lucky stars our mortgage is paid and we have money set aside for retirement.
This is stagnation and not what I have spent over 40 years working to achieve.
I would much rather have the drive to be able to put at risk some of our savings to work with our kids to start another business, capitalising on their knowledge and enthusiasm.
Frankly, under the direction New Zealand is heading my advice to them is move to Australia and start a new life.
We will stick it out here as we are in our early 60’s, but I do despair!
ACT and NZ First are making the right noises, National not so much at present, but there is a massive job to turn this ship around.

Last week, California lawmakers advanced a radical new bill, AB 665, that would allow children as young as 12-years-old to consent to being placed into state funded group homes without parental permission or knowledge. Critics are rightfully equating this to “state-sanctioned kidnapping.”

The state’s Assembly Judiciary Committee passed the bill, allowing mental health professionals to place children in residential facilities upon a minor’s request, even if the children are not experiencing abuse or neglect at home. The bill also lets professionals decide whether or not to inform a child’s parents “after consulting with the minor.” The bill’s authors claim it will help decrease suicidality among “youth, particularly Black and Latinx youth.”
