What a great time to be back in NZ, the weather has been fantastic, places outside Auckland gorgeous and looks like the Liebour ship is slowly sinking.

      I’m not confident that a reset will work. Labour will have 9 long years to plan a different angle to the “two hats” strategy that has worked so well for 5 years. Labour will still be a gaggle of union hacks and career politicians.
      All National and ACT can do is choose to act honorably whilst they are in government. Sadly, that might not be a winning strategy.

        They completely wasted their last 9 years, as evidenced by the shocked look on their faces when the Great Charlatan installed Ardern, and the complete dearth of policy or legislation for a good 6 months. And it was a good 6 months, before they started their destruction of New Zealand from the inside.
        
        So I wouldn’t worry too much about Labour coming up with anything remotely electable in 9 years.

        A reset is exactly what will happen, a global reset pushed by WEF and National, Act, Labour and the Greens are all signed up.
        
        NZ is a special case experiment.
        These are generalisations but do describe at least 40 to 60 % of the population –
        Compliant people, easy to manipulate, high adopters of new tech (without healthy skepticism), low critical thinking and underskilled in the majority.
        Anti- western, apathetic, virtue signallers, believe what they are told by the mainstream media, materialistic and narcissistic.
        Govts churning out egregious bureaucratic red tape and unnecessary rules that cost the people they are meant to be serving.
        
        Having said that NZ was (and in pockets still is) innovative, entrepreneurial, family-first, people centric, helpful, willing to lend known neighbours and unknown strangers the shirt off their backs. Non-compliant for stupid rules (like crime scene tape on playgrounds) or just getting things done (ask for forgiveness if wrong) not waiting for the authority for permission.
        A NZ society where people loved their neighbours as themselves, where the judaeo-christain laws and moral codes were generally agreed and lived upon. A common culture anchor.
        
        There is no doubt the existential threat to NZ is from within , where now everyone does as they see fit. Sounds good until you consider that includes the criminal gangs, individual criminals and the new wokist crowd.
        
        If ” Everything is permissible but not everything is beneficial” then when anything goes we enter the ideological death known as nihilism. Everything is meaningless.
        
        We can and must be better than this. New Zealand can be much better, but it will require a revolution in the hearts and minds of many people.

      The refunding to Iwi is not a hand out, it’s if a community business can show they have a way forward to be helpful to Māori, thus bring down costs to health of Māori, if you can get them to go to the doctor it will help greatly.

And who would be proposing that? You might, if you have any knowledge of Maori history, realise that Maori welcomed European health systems as it prevented their witch doctors killing their children.         A Maori woman I used to work with told me about her mother growing up on the shores of a lake in Rotorua. The little girl became sick and her grandmother took her to the local healer. The healer said this is a Pakeha sickness, you need to take her to a Pakeha doctor. The grandmother did, and it turned out the little girl had polio.
        I was told this about 10 years ago and it’s stuck with me. I always think well done to the healer who recognised something that was beyond his capabilities, and who wasn’t too afraid or too arrogant to refer his patient elsewhere.

  It’ll take years to undo the damage to race relations. I now view every Maori as on the take and that’s awful. Every time I see a Maori on TV or read what one says I get the impression that he or she wants more of my money. Every statistic about Maoris shows poor performance. Their health problems seem to be lifestyle related and my anecdotal evidence is the fast food and enormous hips I see on the street in the Bay of Plenty. And as for crime……..
  It’s unfair I know, because many Maori are not at all like this. But it just seems to be getting worse the longer Labour is in power. Let’s get rid of them forever.

  Have just left the Country of excessive road cones, daft road signs and over zealous police or police wannabees. (People telling you off for “things””.)
  
  The overnight temperatures are a trigger for me to head to the tropics until the erection.
  Interesting observations from a Cambodia friend visiting NZ for the first time.
  Not much traffic, where are all the people(they must be hiding in houses), houses here have lots of doors(internal) and lots of windows.
  Food(except chocolate) is very expensive.
  
  A question that made me laugh. Does the PM or Minister of Transport own the cone making business!!
  
  Yes, I am retired and yes I am going for more than 26 weeks (Check out section 26 of the Superannuation ACT-extended travel)
  
  And while I am on the subject the Government did NOT give a significant increase to benefits!!! It is determined by Legislation based on CPI which labour forced up by 7.2% last year.

    As for the payment, it is not a benefit. We taxpayers have paid for it whereas a huge majority beneficiaries have not contributed to theirs.

      Nope. For most people, what they receive in pensions, healthcare and rest home subsidies today will dwarf what taxes they’ve “paid” during their working lives in the past. Most Kiwis aren’t net taxpayers and pensions are just another form of wealth transfer, like a benefit. With this parasitic dynamic and current demographic trends, nothing will be left for current workers in 2040 or 2050. By that time, robots and AI will do most of the work in the economy and machines don’t pay taxes.

        Yes it is wealth transfer, from one generation to another. Following generations contribute to the wealth created by previous generations.

    It was the August ’21 lockdown that people are being jailed for. However, I know that lockdown was not lifted until the vax pass system was ready. Had it not been ready, the lockdown would have continued for Auckland. It was to get people jabbed.

      There needs to be a full independent inquiry and people need to be held accountable for the lies upon lies, the wrecked jobs, destroyed livelihoods, injuries from an unnecessary rushed experimental useless , ineffective and unsafe “cup of tea”.
      
      As for lockdowns that don’t work, masks that are ineffective and all the plethora of stupid insane rules, people need to be held accountable.
      
      Also last but most importantly the historic excess mortality in NZ – where is the research? WHo is accountable? What happened to cause more people to die then ever in our history barring World Wars?

Why are MSM closing ranks on EV fires.
Is this another condition of government (taxpayers’) financial support for their unviable businesses?
Maybe New Zealand public are entitled to better treatment than this, there being many of these current incidents going unreported, supposedly one with a death in Auckland recently, also last night, the Tesla SUV that went up in smoke on the Harbour Bridge.
These “Green” vehicles are evidently extremely volatile whilst charging and insurance companies may be the next to move.
Time also, they started paying for the roads they use, maybe RUC are well overdue.

If part of the reason for setting up Today FM was to give Ardern a Radio platform after Ardern refused to appear regularly with Mike Hosking, and if Mediaworks thought that bringing Tova on as a competitor to Hosking would drive up their ratings by having Ardern on air with her regularly, then they have failed badly.
When Ardern resigned it removed the station’s key reason for its existence, and coupled with its biased opinion pieces from the likes of O’Brien, Garner and Burr, those businesses seeing their marketing spend going to waste by advertising with Today FM, pulled the plug.
The whole Today FM has been fraught with Tova issues from the start, with her not accepting a Restraint of Trade clause in her previous employment agreement (I’m Tova so rules don’t apply); and she got into a huff as the advertising and start date was out but it had to be delayed.
Various media articles since the announcement to close Today FM focus on O’Brien and Garner’s star power and how they have been mis-treated. If they actually had ‘star power’, then maybe more people would have tuned in with a corresponding lift in revenue – But no, they are self-appreciating muppets, only too quick to denigrate anyone with an opposing view, or heaven forbit, are a National Party supporter.
No amount of cursing and swearing on air is going to change the fact Today FM, was a ratings and advertising failure, so suck it up sweety and start looking for another job.
As the saying goes, ‘go woke – go broke’. Never has a better example been supplied by a group whose egos are much bigger than their talent.

  1) I think the handling of the situation by management was terrible.
  2) Tova didn’t cover herself in any glory by behaving like a child.
  3) There was no ‘star power’. Duncan was removed from the AM show, you don’t do that when a person is a star and draws an audience. His replacement Ryan is ten times better than Duncan was at his best.
  4) The name ‘Today FM’ always implied a music station which I am sure hasn’t helped.
  
  I never listened to Today FM. I grew to dislike Duncan on the AM show. He would do little speeches on issues but the next week would do a speech saying the opposite. I struggle with people with no integrity.
  Why is Tova even a thing? She was the lead political report for TV3 (supposedly) but appeared to have been selected on ‘attributes’, like age, sex and looks. Not trying to be ageist but I think pollical reporters (especial head reporters) need a lot of experience to understand the minutia of politics and reference historical analogies. Her takes always seemed ‘off’ and then there came the COVID experience where Tova was always first or second to get questions and they were always ‘soft’. I am not surprised to hear that she was a friend of JA and here lefty colours came to display on today FM. How can someone be a personal friend of the PM and pretend to give unbiased political opinion as senior pollical reporter for TV3. No Integrity at all.

    I change stations during boring bits so — completely by fluke — I heard the moment when Tova and “tearful staff” entered the studio while Garner was ‘on air’. She told him they were losing their jobs. She said they were being “scapegoated” by MediaWorks (I think for failures of the wider organization). And here’s a juicy tidbit: she said “someone in this building is leaking against us” .. So is that a mole? A snitch? What was the leak?
    
    BTW she was at the Albert Park protest-cum-riot with colleague Lloyd Burr, and wrote about it at todayfm.co.nz .. Burr wrote a piece too. (And for the opposing view, there’s an essay by Rachel Smalley who sounds pretty reasonable).
    
    I didn’t hear Tova’s show in the leadup to the riot, so I don’t know to what degree she was stirring up the anger and outrage that vented itself in Albert Park, but if her essays are any indication…
    
    What are the chances she was mingling with the very people she had ginned up in the first place?

People listened to their previous incarnation as they offered something different. Half the population are currently sick of the narrative and have switched off.   Audrey Hale murdered 6 people recently in Nashville, including 3 children . Female mass shooters are very rare. But here’s the thing – what if telling young women they are the wrong sex and allowing them to be pumped full of male hormones so they can try to be men, is a very bad idea? What if it makes them very aggressive and much more unbalanced than they were before those procedures?

      Ghost – lots of women have emotional problems and real struggles. One only has to go on tick-tock to see women baring their souls about how sad they are. However it is very rare for a woman to resort to getting some guns and murdering people. That is a level of aggression that is normally not found in women.         I buried my bestfriend/little brother when he was 19. It took me to a place that took me a while to get out of. But when I was there I saw no hope, no reason, no way out. Everywhere I went I was looking at an exit plan. In a car if I jump out the door, no I could survive. Jump in front of a truck on the road, what if I survived with bad injuries. I even researched which pills I could get, but didn’t want to hurt those who’d find my body. Those who I’m close with have said and I agree, if I had access to a gun I would have committed suicide by cop.
        
        From what we know of this case she was struggling with the death of a loved one, had little family support, was suicidal, getting support for emotional problems. Told her friend she didn’t want to live anymore.

NZ needs to do this. Tarrif on Chinese steel.
We had a steel mill – Glenbrook. Last I head they were doing sheet only.
Australian or Japanese steel is fine. Chinese steel is shit. It is brittle because not enough new steel is put into recycled steel. I know this, being a fabricator and welder.
I can tell Chinese steel in the first 20mm bead of weld. It is shit, the weld splatters.
It is brittle, bad news for trailer drawbars. I have had to replace cracked drawbars on 3500kg trailers, under company warranty.

  Some Chinese steel is good – other stuff is absolute rubbish. Many of their manufactures don’t clean up the melts, having sulphur and phosphorus right at the limit – or even higher but rely on dodgy metal certificates.
  Fletchers got caught out by dodgy rebar on their part of motorway builds from memory. The Chinese steel was too brittle. But people continue to buy it, and you get what you pay for.

    The sheet steel was rubbish.
    As many will know, I work at the same company for 50 years making trailers.
    So I drag out a sheet, cut it in the guillotine, bend it in the pressbrake and then start welding it to a frame. Bang, the weld blows straight through.
    So I get the forklift and take the 40 sheets outside and ring the steel merchant and tell them they now own it.
    Bring 40 sheets of not chinese steel and bring it now! They had been told no chinese steel for us. There must have been some ID when it was delivered but someone missed it.

    Add. You get what you pay for? Chinese steel is on a par with other manufacturers. We need a tariff added.
    Very hard to keep up with prices and company costings. Last year, steel was increasing about 13% every month. Not keeping up means selling product sometimes at a loss.
    I was involved at all levels from fabricating, customer service, repairs, advice, right up to product costing. I know it all.

      Steve, if the steel is bad, what is the point of adding a tariff? That won’t improve the quality of the steel. If the quality is so poor as to be unsafe to use, it needs to be off the market altogether.
      
      Is there an industry system for identifying product quality? Surely what is needed is for customers to be able to specify the standard they require and be confident they will receive it.

    You are relying on the QA of the inspectors and the construction company. Often, they either don’t know what they are looking for nor do they care.
    Problems may arise if so Auckland is hit by an earthquake. However, it is very very likely that the building will never need the strength in its steel. It will go right through its life without it ever being an issue.

    yes and no. Chinese firms can and will build to whatever quality standard you want. They can do first class work.
    
    But, the culture of cheating is real.
    
    So unless you watch them like hawks, and test regularly, they will substitute shit for the stuff you specified every time they think they will get away with it.
    
    The certificates will say whatever you pay them to say.
    
    Remember Melamine in baby formula – it pushes the protein level up when the product is tested. Shame it kills the kids though.
    
    That is the mentality you are dealing with. Cheating is not a “maybe”thing, its a “when”thing. I have heard of entire commercial buildings in Auckland having to be recabled because the “certified”cable had faked code certification.

      Not my experience(cheating whenever they can).
      This is after dealing with a score of suppliers over a number of years.
      
      Our “secret” was to developed relationships with suppliers. Hence the visits. They wouldn’t cheat us as that would mean losing face.
      
      Ordering remotely/via Catalog etc puts you in the idiot/able to be cheated category.
      I suspect some NZ steel suppliers/importers will fall in to that latter category
      
      PS. One of our customers Woolworhs Australia had a cunning strategy. They used a Hong Kong based quality control company.
      Cantonese Hong Kongers were ruthlessly pedantic that the Mainland(Mandarin) Chinese meet the standards. They just had to make sure their staff spoke/understood Mandarin!! 🙂

        I had my kiwibank account frozen on new years eve for sending $300 to Oz at Xmas for my niece. Had to go into a branch and explain it away like a child does with their mother. I ditched them on the spot and went with anz.
        Being freehold and a tradesman I now demand most payments in cash and let the odd customer pay via the bank so I can pay my gst. So long as your books are right and you declare everything it is not illegal to trade in cash regardless of how many frowny faces the ird might pull, just be sure to have a chartered accountant do your tax returns. If you’re at the stage in life where you don’t need the banks then ditch the them. As for online shopping get a prezzy card.

While the scandal regard Stuart Nash would sink a better government, we must remember that this Labour Government is one without shame.

To make things worse they are using this debacle to distract people from the fact that an act of domestic terror occurred in Albert Park, Auckland (Our largest city) on Saturday 25 March where ideologically driven persons used violence and the threat of violence to silence women (a legal visitor as well as New Zealand Citizens) in New Zealand. (They further attempted the same with a religious gathering in Aotea Square, but were dissuaded by the fact that big men on Motor cycles are less easily subject to physical threats)

Police appear to have been instructed not to protect law abiding people exercising their right to free speech.

Further, Ministers of the crown were present in support of the terrorists.

Why has the Prime Minister not condemned the event and lack of police action on the day?

Why have the organizers not been arrested for incitement to violence?

Why has our government not issued a formal apology to the people whose rights were denied them?

Will National and Act commit to a Royal commission of enquiry into this event which has resulted in threats of Tourism and Trade boycotts against out country. (The enquiry should also examine the part if mainstream media in fostering the violent terrorism and failing to report on it)

Apparently, these awards are for the leaders of tomorrow, “brimming with the potential to build a bright future for Aotearoa, … striving to improve themselves, their communities and their nation.”

A bright future in which those who disagree with Shaneel will not have a right of peaceful public assembly or to express opinions he does not agree with. It seems to me that alone guarantees no chance whatsoever for improving anyone, any community or this nation.

The voting was no doubt done before last Saturday’s disgraceful scenes. I wonder if it would have made any difference.

    It is because very little of corporate NZ is owned solely by NZ shareholders. Most companies are part of multinational conglomerates. If the company has foreign ownership, they also tend to demonstrate woke. Then there are the govt owned entries. After that there is not much in the way of large public owned NZ companies.

The prize this year I understand is the Maori Scientist who “found Matariki”.
Perhaps this is not the right interpretion, but I always thought that the recently so called Matariki, was in fact, in English, it is called the Pleiades (its ancient Greek name) or the Seven Sisters. The Hawaiian name is Makali’i, or ‘eyes of royalty’, and in Japan it is Subaru, meaning ‘gathered together’.

    I see a lot of house and land packages being put up for sale almost as soon as the code compliance certificate has been issued and the landscaping is still going in! A lot of these would have been negotiated / bought around the peak and the owners are now in the horrible quandary where the valuation is less than the purchase price, interest rates are jumping and their existing property price has dropped like a stone.
    
    I suspect there could soon be a very painful correction just around the corner.
    
    If the proverbial does hit the fan, and the labour-green-maori clown show gets in this October, then NZ will truly deserve everything it gets and will be well on the way to banana republic.
    
    Can only hope enough people see sense later this year to end this government and give National / ACT a chance to sort this shit out.

    Not sure but I suppose you could argue that the reason he held off in originally firing Nash over the police issue was that Chippie new all about the lobbyist briefing and was hoping he could avoid the lobbyist thing coming out. If Nash was fired then, he could have done a ‘I’m taking you all down with me’ strop, so Chippie was hoping to muddle through (helps when you have a compliant and tame MSM I suppose).
    
    When the lobbyist issue broke (and got to wonder who leaked it and why the bought and paid for MSM reported on it), he acted bloody quickly. Almost like he was trying to head off any further discussion so as to avoid him, Grunter and Ardern being dragged into it. When that didn’t work, harbour crossings as a diversion.
    
    Just a suspicion really.
    
    Guess we’ll have to hope for a change of government later this year and an open enquiry into all this OIA stuff. As other commenters have stated – it would be more than reasonable to assume that this isn’t the only OIA dodge they’ve done in the last 6 years!

  Do they never realise how condescending this crap is? It’s almost like they are saying it’s not Maori / Pacific students fault – it’s so racist to expect them to be smarter.
  
  I have met folks of many races in NZ – race is the single, most useless guide to how smart someone is. I’ve met east asian folks that vary between genius and thick. I’ve met Maori that make me feel thick and others that make me feel like I’m Einstein. Same goes for pretty much ever race or nationality I’ve met in NZ.
  
  This constant ‘it’s not your fault because of racism / colonisation’ crap is so condescending! Can they honestly not see this?
  
  How about rather than making the tests easier, they actually focus on how they can lift performance for these kids?
  
  I came from a bloody poor area. I got ahead because I put the work in, and most importantly, had three amazing teachers that made it their personal goal to lift all their students up to the highest they could be – homework was checked, help was given, standards were to be met. They didn’t say the tests and exams were unfair because I came from a shitty no-hoper family. They never saw the issue as the bar needed to be lowered – their jobs was to help kids get over the bar. And I wasn’t the only kid they helped.
  
  But I suppose it’s just so much easier to scream racism. And NZ continues the gradual but continual decline.

No wonder political reporting in the Herald is so poor. Someone with memory problems of that gravity should be getting treatment.
However she did make the astonishing claim that the Deputy Chief of Staff in the PM’s office isn’t Machiavellian in any way. Really? Surely someone in this role should have a firm grasp on political machinations and implications. Perhaps her innocence of such matters is why she approved the the concealment of the email that got Nash sacked.

  Some people have suggested Marama’s rant on video blaming white men for violence, might have been shot earlier/later than claimed.
  I caught a glimpse of the video last night and noted there was a bright, sunlit patch of footpath behind her between dark shadows. If someone in Auckland recognises the street, they could go down there on the next clear day and note the time the shadows are in the same position as the video. A week won’t have made much difference — should be accurate to within 15 mins. Take photos.
  
  Help to confirm the REAL order of events: was it “bumped by a motorcycle” -> the rant -> hospital treatment, .. or something different?

Regardless if one didn’t even like Today FM, it is still sad that staff have been shafted at the last minute and lost their jobs.

I think there is room in Auckland and the rest of the country for another talkback station to compete with Newstalk ZB.

Today FM was a woke station but most of Newstalk ZB is also like that apart from Hoskings.

  IMO, that’s why their advertisers slowly withdrew their revenue to the point where the station was no longer financially viable and their owners pulled the pin.

    It is inconceivable that anyone with a modicum of intelligence would not have seen a problem coming down the pike for some time and from what I see, the “stars” of Today FM poses only a modicum of intelligence.
    Radio stations live and die on their statistics, Listener numbers, market share etc are the meat and drink to a talk show host so unless they were totally incompetent (possible), very very stupid (also possible) or are now lying their asses off about it being a shock and surprise (also possible), O’Brian and Garner must have seen the writing on the wall.
    What troubles me is how they survived in such an industry for so long in leadership roles. Is the management at TVNZ that bad?

  I think the problem there is in your last sentence.
  
  Newstalk ZB is actually pretty ‘woke’ during the day. It’s bookended with Hosking in the mornings (right / centre-right……or just sensible as I see it!) and HDPA on drivetime in the afternoon / early evening slot (centrist maybe left sometimes).
  
  They can’t compete during the morning / evening slots as RNZ probably provides the woke alternative during this time, which meant Today FM was retty much offering the same as Newstalk ZB during the day.
  
  Really wasn’t a compelling reason for listeners to switch loyalties. Advertisers follow the audience, therefore not really a great surprise. Therefore, you’d have to say it was a bad strategy from the start and this was probably inevitable. Certainly my thoughts.
  
  Feel for the staff though – even Tova – never good when someone gets sacked. You can disagree with someone’s views without wishing them ill.

  Along Tamaki Drive in Auckland, there is a dedicated cycle lane along most of the length, put in at great expese to ratepayers and with much disruption to daily drivers, and yet we still see these lycra clad loons holding up traffic in the car lanes.
  
  The few times we head there for family fun (ice creams for all of us that Kapiti stuff does taste quite nice), we have never seen any cyclists in these lanes. Weekday, weekend, day or night.

    That’s what bugs me. Those assholes ignore the bike lanes built for them and stick to the traffic lanes. It seems to be the ones that look like serious cyclists; the casual ones are on the bike lanes (mostly), and they’re few and far between even on weekends.
    
    What I’ve really grown to love are the new crossing lights on Tamaki Drive – just 200m from the existing crossing lights at the Ngapipi road intersection.
    
    And judging from the number of traffic cops I now see on Tamaki Drive – especially on weekends – I’m guessing it’s a full court press to force people to accept the new changes.

    SirK – That bike lane is not fit for purpose – it is uneven, runs adjacent to passenger doors and is usually filled with women pushing babies in prams. The new bit in Mission bay has no entry point for riders coming into town! The whole thing is so poorly designed that a serious cyclist needs to ride on the road. Fortunately most drivers are courteous and aware of the dangers riders face from irate, boorish drivers.

  There is a “counter’ on the cycleway near Hagley Park. It is up to about 30,000 for the year. However many of the cyclists there are doing it for recreation and exercise (including me). As at the last census there were fewer people commuting by bike than in 1990. Will be interesting to see the results of the 2023 census.
  
  The real boom in cycling is recreational cycling – mountain bikes. Have you seen 4 x $9,000 bikes strapped to the back of the huge SUV on the weekend going to or from the mountain bike park?

Turns out that the deliberately withheld video evidence of him being effectively shown around by Capital Police (i.e. a Brady Violation) would have been a mitigating factor in his sentencing.

The meltdown over the collapse of TodayFM has been truly enlightening in terms of how the corporate class under the age of 40 don’t understand basic economics.

Their whole argument on continuing has been on the basis that in due course people will ‘consume’ their product. Thankfully their US owners understand economics 101 and the concept of pouring good money after bad.

The MSM response has been one of denial as opposed to understanding that TodayFM was a poor product that nobody wanted to consume.

Interestingly as my 2 children traverse yrs 8-12 in NZ schooling I am dumbfounded in the lack of teaching of basic economic concepts. Gone are the fundamentals of supply and demand replaced by marketing and other non essential economic concepts.

A coincidence? Perhaps not.

  I was never exposed to anything connected to bookkeeping/accounting/economics in my education.
  
  I was aware of some realities:
  …. That I needed to work in Summer Hols to afford Uni;
  
  that I couldn’t afford to fail any exam;
  
  that there was no guarantee that anyone would employ me for 40 years as a Forest Ecologist based in Wellington.
  
  I don’t think my daughters had any exposure to economics either, in their secondary schooling… though aspects of budgeting/cost controls were covered in Chef daughter’s training at Polytech.

The number of available rentals has fallen by a third over the past 18 months.The sharp drop has helped drive rents up for new tenants by 11%.
Lettijng agencies typically have 10 rentals compared to over 16 before September 2021.
The number of rental properties haven’t fallen, they have barely moved since 2016.

Compliance costs, both to date and those suggested for the future, starting to have a serious outcome.

The covid narrative is in retreat, except in NZ. The Labour government are, with the help of an increasingly irrelevant mainstream media, clinging desperately to their rapidly sinking ship.

On February 29th, responding to a WhatsApp message from Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Chief Adviser Dominic Cummings that Israeli scientists were just weeks away from developing a Covid vaccine and if this was credible, Chief Scientist Sir Patrick Vallance replied “Short answer is no”.

Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty explained: “For a disease with a low (for the sake of argument 1%) mortality a vaccine has to be very safe so the safety studies can’t be shortcut. So important for the long run.” England’s highest mortality rate was in April 2020 at 0.6%, falling to 0.55% in January 2021 and 0.04% by January 2023.

Thomas Buckley summarises it succinctly:

Tetanus boosters are not scheduled every four months… and polio is an awful memory of the past.

Covid is still around and, most likely, will be forever, as will the growing list of health problems associated with the shot itself…

From two weeks to stop the spread to get a not-vaccine shot every four months, the pandemic response has been full of lies and suffering for the general public and money and power for the autocrats and oligarchs and their clerisy.

With National releasing policy about electrification this morning I hope they have done some form of electricity budget. How much is produced and how much required nationally. Christchurch was on the verge of brown outs earlier in the week when the cold snap hit. I would guess that without gas and coal generation going flat out we won’t be able to produce enough.

  The electricity sector (gentailers, distributors and possibly even regulators) got Boston Consulting Group to produce a report on the 100% renewable goal by 2030.

  The sector reckons they can achieve up to 98% renewable fairly comfortably in that time frame (even taking into account electrification of industry and transport). There are also significant investments required into the network as well as generation.
  
  It is interesting seeing National include biomass as one the energy types that will get special consenting, Genesis recent trial with a specific type of biomass was successful at Huntly and according to them emit 10% of the GHG emissions that coal does, however there is no major supplier of this type of biomass worldwide, I think I read somewhere that Genesis would require more biomass than is currently generated wordwide to switch off coal.   I keep telling myself to go and buy a generator to use when the power goes out, but must admit I still have trouble with the idea that people really do want to wreck our national supply.
  I wonder if this will be the year I kick myself for putting the purchase off too long. I gather that we’ve come pretty close to widespread blackouts over the last couple of years.

Horizons Regional Council is looking at its management of willow trees.
Multiple people across the region spoke to Stuff concerned about the effects of Horizons spraying trees as part of its tree management scheme.
They say it leads to trees going into waterways during floods and causing damage.
Akitio Beach was covered with logs after the flood, as was Manawatu Estuary at the mouth of the Manawatu River.

Was this a possible contributing factor with the Tutaekuri River?

Luxon has nailed his colours to the mast. He’s going all out on “renewables”. They are expensive inefficient ways to generate insufficient electricity. Ask Australia what has happened to their cost of electricity and their capacity.

I have been critical of Luxon for not having policy and not using his opportunities handed on a plate by Labour, but this is absolute madness at a time when we need everything possible to get the economy to expand and the cost of living to go down. He will not be getting my vote.

        Ghost – I used the word “review” purposefully as I know his support for the vax. In a private communication he equated Covid to Yellow fever and the carrying of vaccine certification for it, but it is now apparent to even the slowest that there is no comparison, ie yellow fever has an infection fatality rate of 20% as compared to Covid of <1%, there is no YF in NZ but covid is here and finally the YF vaccine actually works! Being able to relook at one's opinions as new facts emerge is essential, and he now needs to do so.

  Up to a certain point PV is now cheapest non-legacy-hydro electricity there is. In midwest USA it costs about NZ$0.05/kWh, which is well below NZ’s typical $0.08-0.1/kWh wholesale price.
  
  But if you get too much – to the point where you can’t easily manage cloudy days etc, then it starts to add cost through extra reserve electricity capacity that must be maintained.

Earlier this week, the Australian actor took to Twitter to share a message in which he questioned the roles “trans folk” can play.

“A question – if the only people allowed to play trans characters are trans folk, then are we also suggesting the only people trans folk can play are trans characters?” he asked.

  The vaccinations you received should be part of your health record.
  
  Generally in NZ you can only use personal information for the reason for which you collected it, so the answer should be no, it can be passed on to other government departments or sold. I’m not sure it would have much value, since the pass only says whether or not you were vaccinated back when they were in use. By now that information would be out of date.
  
  If your pass was only sighted and not scanned, there is no record for a business to destroy. It’s an interesting question as to what businesses were told about retaining and then destroying scanned records back then.

A 9-year-old is believed to be involved in one of many groups of youth offenders behind a series of car thefts and burglaries in Christchurch.

Early Thursday morning a group of youths allegedly stole about $3000 worth of alcohol from a store in Christchurch before fleeing in a stolen car.

Police were called and observed the car before deploying road spikes which brought the car, with six youths inside, to a stop.

A police spokesperson said six youths were taken into custody. The Herald understands one of the youths had allegedly cut off their electronically-monitored bail bracelet.

    In theory, yes. The census tells us how many people there are and where. It used to be followed by the Maori roll option. After which, the number of seats was determined – the South Island has a set number of general roll seats, which gives you the electorate size. The north island general roll is divided by that number to determine how many seats it has and the Maori roll similarly.
    
    Then you get on to setting the boundaries for each electorate.
    
    What I don’t understand is why so many Maori, despite all the publicity and effort made to engage them supposedly are not engaging.
    
    Is the real Maori population that much smaller than thought? Is there a similar level of disengagement among other ethnic groups?

Thought I’d share this nugget on Kainga Ora that I became aware of this week.

One of the engineering consultancy firms I work with is struggling with staff retention. Despite things being a bit quieter, they are still pretty busy in the geotechnical and civil engineering space.

From what I’ve heard (and heard this from other sources also) is that their staff are now being poached by other firms who have Kainga Ora contracts on the Project Velocity workstream – latest greatest best thing ever that’s totally going to result in loads of houses being delivered…..maybe…..

Anyway, the KO work is an absolute goldmine for those consultants who have managed to get in on the action. They get to hire loads of staff, charge them out at astronomical rates, and Kainga Ora pays for them full time and then some – heard there are loads of additional add ons for the consultant firms. The best part for these firms lucky enough to be in on the trough is that they don’t have to do the things that a normal firm has to – you know, pesky things like manage these staff, ensure work is done, ensure they have work going forward, they don’t pay overheads, IT, management, none of the back office costs that normally get added in. They literally find and hire the staff, dump them into Kainga Ora and watch the money come rolling in. As one source told me, it’s the ultimate ticket clipping gig.

What this means is that these firms who have the KO contracts simple do not care about the market rates. It is all about volume – they don’t care if the engineer is good or bad, they get paid regardless. Therefore, they are starting to poach rival firms staff and making stupid offers – fantastic for those lucky enough because they get to make a fortune, all while undermining their competitors!!

The consultants I know have had staff come up to them and say match or better this offer or I am off. They have had to match two offers but couldn’t match the others so have lost some pretty decent team members.

What pisses me off is this is tax payers money, being pissed against a wall, by an organisation, KO, that simply couldn’t deliver jack shit on time or on budget, but are now forcing consultant firms to increase wages to retain staff, thus adding to the inflationary cycle.

And Grunter then denies that Labour have anything to do with inflation and it’s all imported.

Unbelievable.

I’m sorry, I just can’t understand this other than in the context of political-driven handouts to special interests.

I should add, if the proof is there that these treatments are effective and cost-efficient compared to alternatives then great. But show us the damn proof!

Stuff has a feature, where you can push a button indicating ‘How does this story make you feel?’

Generally, I don’t even bother reading the article.

I simply hit “Angry”. You can send Stuff a message of 150 characters, which of course I do.

My last comment about a hitjob by Stuff on Mediaworks went as follows:

‘Entitlement. These clowns were almost as unprofitable as Stuff. Go Woke Go Broke! Business shouldn’t have to subsidise you lefty shirkers for life!’

I don’t know if any one reads my one sentence reviews of the extreme left wing propaganda that is Stuff, but it feels therapeutic to give these Neo-Marxists a piece of my mind.

It’s a recommend from me.

The delusion is amazing. In what world could the mega polytech be “the right move” given its current dire situation. What would the ‘wrong move’ have looked like?

The thing with these folk is there are no consequences. Look at Today FM. OK they tried to set up a new station. It failed. Now it is off air. The CE resigned and all the staff have lost their jobs.

But this piece of work – “It was the right move”. Hell there should be bloodletting if there is a National-ACT government.
