Why is it that when the Prime Minister Chris Hipkins lies bends the truth or makes a mistake it is allowed by our corrupt media and there out of touch Journalists, yet when it is the National Party Leader Chris Luxon or one of his MP’s it is a catastrophe and the media immediately start a witchhunt against the Leader and his party.
How far do the public want this Country to let its debt rise before they realize that it is their children, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren that will be saddled with this Labour Party out of control spending and lies to when they are found out, like the $14 million spent on advertising their Minister of Health and the Labour Party recently.
While you have to spend to fix disasters like our floods recently you also have to have a plan, so please can we have the plan as the waffling is not the common sense that is needed.

    Chris Hipkins, Jacinda Adern, and Grant Robertson all have a plan.
    
    They plan/planned to line their own pockets as much as they could before getting kicked out. Much like their Labour Party mentors (Clark and Cullen) did.
    
    According to the Roy Morgan poll, over half of NZers approve of their plan.
    
    Unless we speak up and demand to know where all our money has disappeared to, the next Labour government will adopt the same plan.
    
    Instead of paying back debt, National should build infrastructure. Otherwise National are playing along with the plan by filling the coffers for the Labour hierarchy to raid again.

      That was National’s problem in 2014-2017. They should have had a big spend-up and locked in as many projects as possible. They should have allocated billions to alleviate child poverty and then found they could do an effective job with a fraction of that. Unfortunately John Key and Bill English were too conservative for this.

        TRUE. I heard from a reputable source that Key and English were advised to take advantage of NZ’s relatively low debt to build more infrastructure during the gfc but they declined the opportunity. It will be interesting to hear from the horses mouth why they didn’t!
        
        We need a hierarchy of vital infrastructure projects so successive governments have to explain or provide alternative business cases for any derivation from the plan (Australia have a similar hands off arrangement for their defense spending). Any derivation must be approved by referendum.
        
        Without change, we will continue to enrich the Labour hierarchy whilst we all get progressively poorer and sicker.

      Fill in the form as the helpers wish.

  To answer you question regarding why Labour is popular, I think it is because so many people that voted for them last time, do not want to admit they were duped / got it wrong.

    I would agree that all politicians are inherently untrustworthy but why the left ones would be perceived as any less trustworthy is no doubt due to feelz and the level to which the large proportion of the public relies on the Government for their survival in the form of cushy Govt jobs, consultants fees, directorships, media grants, treaty settlements all the way down to benefits, WFF accommodation allowances etc. The level of grift in NZ Society is now at a level where nobody can vote for it to be reversed. Get out now while your NZD$ can still buy you a plane ticket. Aussie might not be much better but it sure ain’t as bad.

    As I have suggested a number of times TVNZ and RNZ need to be privatised. No need for the govt to own this stuff anymore AND brings conflict of interest issues. I believe National / Act should take a leaf out of Labours playbook and mention nothing about it until they are elected, at which point they just do it.

      It won’t happen. It should, but it won’t because Luxon, Willis and the rest are as much into communist controlled radio/TV as Labour are.
      
      NZ On Air/ Creative NZ should be closed down too. It is a conduit to feed taxpayer money to communist propagandists who pose as entertainers and artists. Helen Clark’s brainchild, it was set up expressly for this purpose.
      
      That National will not deal to it is just one more signal that the party has been infiltrated and taken over by the left.
      
      The lesson is plain. If you despise this stuff, and see it as crippling NZ’s democracy, then you’re wasting your vote putting it with the same old same old. Especially today, with the Nats further to the left than they have ever been.

        Only in their Three Waters replacement scheme.
        
        It’s business as usual elsewhere, or perhaps you could point to the policy or commitments that National will root it out of the public service, government contracts and funding, and prevent it from being implemented at local body level.
        
        This should not be an afterthought. It should be a specific election platform and they should be shouting it out loud. And there bloody-well should be a policy that commits the party to that goal, which is a central tenet of democracy: one person, one vote.

        I once locked a group of luvvies in my lounge and randomly switched between TV1 news, Tv3 news, and the breakfast shows of both, but none of them noticed. I also dropped in a few clips of Sesame Street. They giggled at Big Bird’s antics but seem concerned he had nothing to say about man-made killer cyclones or threats to electric vehicle subsidies. But overall, the captive luvvies couldn’t discern a difference.

        Their profit margin is coincident exactly with what they have skimmed from the taxpayer via govt advertising. Furthermore they are not required to make a profit, so there’s that.

Luxon/ Willis just announced that if elected they would redistribute $75 per week in child care “rebates” to families earning up to $140K pa, with it tapering off up to $175K pa. What’s that if its not Marxism?

      As I said, its not about cancelling them. The govt shouldn’t own media outlets. The issue of balance is always a concern. I say privatise them and let them sink or swim.
      
      The argument for ownership is to ensure niche topics are covered that otherwise might not be. However we now have Youtube and Podcasts that allow a publishing medium for niche groups. If your into pig racing there is no longer a need for the govt to pay RNZ to cover it.

      It depends what you see the role of Tv/Radio to be. If it is government sponsored it will follow the sponsor’s directives, or lose funding. That’s how it works with any sponsorship.
      If you want a factual report of government activities you won’t get it.
      If you want an even-handed judgement of government policies, you won’t get it from the sponsored outlets.
      So, just accept that the current National Radio and Television news outlets are sponsored by the government, and stop listening to them.
      It’s quite easy to do.

NZ history is being changed under our noses because of public funded liars.     We know the function of bilingual signage is to inform people who do not speak the language of the majority.
    
    For example, on the trains and train stations in Tokyo you will have signage in Japanese, with smaller text in English, Chinese and Korean. This is for people who can not read Japanese.
    
    In New Zealand, do we have any monolingual speakers of Te Reo? I assume that all people who claim to speak Te Reo are also native speakers of English.
    
    Why then the need for bilingual Te Reo/English signage?
    
    Wouldn’t it be more functional to have English/Chinese/Hindi signage in hospitals in Auckland?

Porsche wants to keeping putting ICE’s in its 911 and Ferrari in some of its models. Under EU rules unless all countries sign up to the ban then it doesnt apply.

      As you well know the whole point of government is to provide limits to markets for all sorts of things. Safety, environment, monopolies, etc.
      So if there is an agreement/consensus to reduce greenhouse gases, that has to be reflected in public policy. In short, a legislatively mandated shift away from transport that emit greenhouses gases.
      
      Unless, as your post seems to indicate, you don’t think there is a problem with greenhouse gases. I had thought you had not actually joined the ranks of climate change deniers. Clearly I was wrong.

        I use the term deliberately. Most people who comment here think climate variability is simply a result of natural cycles or alternatively is not happening at all. Certainly nothing that humans have contributed to.
        That is contrary to the vast bulk of the science in this area (which I have studied a lot over the years).
        Hence my use of the term.
        Now I know that the commenters here think virtually all climate scientists are charlatans, and not actually scientists at all. It’s a free country, you can think whatever you please. But don’t expect it to go unchallenged, at least from time to time.
        There is a whole bunch of things I don’t comment on, Covid for instance. It would be an utter waste of time. As you will recall there used to be a debate on Covid, but we have all concluded there is no point. Clan, Krazy and others have their safe space here.

Though I presume you actually mean the ETS should be the only mechanism. As we have discussed previously the carbon price would have to quadruple for the ETS component of petrol to be $1. That is too much in the current circumstances. So other policies are necessary. As you know I support the clean car incentive and I think National is wrong to oppose it.

    Not really.
    If you have a dual citizenship then there is potential for your second citizenship to be stripped.
    
    I am not sure what current NZ law is, but Australia will strip naughty people of Australian citizenship if they have another citizenship. I don’t think that applies to NZ, but a few law changes can make it the came.
    
    Also, if you are deported from a country then they can deport you to any country that you are a citizen of. You might not like to go to the country you are deported to.
    
    Same applies if you request services from an embassy. They might tell you to rather go to the other embassy.
    
    When I became an NZ citizen I made sure to scrape my South African citizenship off my boots. I have no intention of ever going back to South Africa and I would not want to be sent there.

    However if the kids did not secure their citizenship that they are entitled to then their kids cannot claim NZ citizenship.
    
    I fell in the same hole with Canadian citizenship.
    
    My grandmother was born in Canada. Up to some number of years ago any descendent of a Canadian citizen could claim Canadian citizenship. Then the law changed – only offspring.
    If my mother had claimed Canadian citizenship, then I would have been OK (I would have also been OK if I had claimed it myself about 10 years ago).
    
    If I had known this at at the time my life could have been radically different (eg. left South Africa at 18 and gone to Canada rather than have to go through military service etc).
    
    So the big takeaways are:
    1) The laws differ from country to country.
    2) Laws change, so don’t just set things up based on current assumptions.

      If my father was, different story
      That was when I was in my early twenties. Might have been different if I was a baby, I don’t know.
      My mother obtained a NZ passport just by applying for it!! Even though she was an English immigrant. No citizenship application required.

  This is a non story. Unless the law has changed recently, on their return the parents simply have to upgrade their children’s citizenship from by descent to by residence. So long as the kids are under 16, there’s a form to fill & a fee to pay (of course, this in NZ). Over 16, it’s a bit tougher, the kids have to demonstrate a commitment to NZ – but it’s not that tough.

      SVB was spooked by the increasing treasury bond rates (not withstanding Peter Thiel triggered the run first), as it holds a large amount (required by banking regulations) of low yield US t-bonds that can’t be offloaded without some major losses. This is not limited to SVB, the unrealised t-bonds losses amount to well over 600 billion across the banking sector in the US.

  The NZ media are a disgrace and their lack of interrogation of the obvious Labour Government missteps and (dare I say it) corruption, makes the media responsible for the national disaster Labour has created.
  
  But how to fix it?
  
  We need our captains of industry to step up and create an online news and current affairs site which appeals to middle NZ and gives them the balanced investigative reporting which is vital to the success of a liberal democracy.
  
  We also need a derivation of the Swiss referendum system which allow voters to fill the role of an upper parliamentary chamber.
  
  Any race based policies must go to referendum.
  
  Any policies not articulated and costed before the election must go to referendum.
  
  Aside from initial disaster relief, policing, etc. National emergency response choices with costings must go to referendum. There was a sensible national pandemic plan which Labour ignored. If Labour had followed that plan we’d all be much much healthier and much much richer.
  
  We need a hierarchy of vital infrastructure projects so successive governments have to explain or provide alternative business cases for any derivation from the plan. Any derivation must be approved by referendum.
  
  Without change, we will continue to enrich the Labour hierarchy whilst we all get progressively poorer and sicker.

I remember when

While the amount and flow of water was the major reason for much of the damage from Cyclone Gabrielle, how much did things like lack of maintenance, inspections relating to maintenance and repair staff shortages contribute.
At a time were complaints about pothole repairs have reached a crescendo, how much did this add to the size and cost of the damage.
The previous year’s La Nina meant rainfall was above average for Hawke’s Bay.
Did this lead to water penetrating behind clay and rock faces, preparing them for future slips and damage.
Has the inferior quality ashpalt increased the degree of vulnerability of road surfaces.
How much maintenance didn’t happen because of firstly covid, covid lockdown, and then staffing shortages.

Was it all the result of Cyclone Gabrielle.

3. Stopping biological men competing in women’s sports.

She also opposes woke terminology such as replacing the term “women” with the crazy “People with a uterus”.

  Many “Super” Funds in Aus (aka Kiwisaver equivalents) have gone into woke (especially climate cult) “investments” and “divestments”. I think customers will pay dearly in the long run (if not very soon) because of this. In Aus “Super” is compulsory for wage and salary earners and is 10.5% on top of salary now. So many people have a lot of money in these funds.

    I’d be interested to learn places where I can invest my money that aren’t infected with ESG. The infection seems to be everywhere.
    E.g.
    Look at what Milford has to say for itself…
    “We do not invest in companies that ignore sustainability risks and are not working towards a more sustainable future.”
    And BNZ…
    “Our responsible investment policy excludes certain sectors, including companies that generate significant revenue from activities that cause harm to people and the planet”
    ASB seems to be infected as well.
    Pretty depressing really.

Here is a reason on why you can’t put your faith in the Prime Minister or the Minister of Housing Megan Woods.
After what happened in the aftermath of Cyclone Gabrielle and the devastating mess it has left behind, so why would you be convinced by the Prime Minister or the Housing Minister and Labour Caucus that they will build back better and safer for those that lost everything.
While all Political Parties must take responsibility for where and how they built homes in the past there were many that should never have been built in the locations they were.
So if Labour are lucky enough to be elected the Government at the next Election here is a reason why they haven’t learnt from the latest disaster.

How can you change your mind on land that has been Judged as a risk for flooding with the Minister Megan Woods refusing permission to build 80 dwellings on it because of risk and safety and the months later let the Ministry purchase the land and are prepared to build more than 300 dwellings on this same land.
There has also been questions by those Qualified to judge on the suitability of David Parkers latest Resource Management Act.

  A classic example of using a natural disaster to one’s own advantage eh?
