More disturbing news from the replacement religion, the unholy mess that is Diversity, Inclusion & Equity – DIE.

An airline is celebrating an all gay flight where all of the crew are homosexual. Some customers are less than impressed and want, gasp, an airline that prioritises safety and qualifications!

Apparently airlines are lowering standards to have more women and coloured people and other minorities.
According to a veteran pilot these initiatives are causing causing major safety concerns –

a B-triple-seven off Maui almost crashed two nights ago. Both pilots became disoriented and pulled out of a dive 300 feet above the water, pulling two and a half G’s. …
I’m just home from Denver training center. There are some real horror stories out there about United, but management is hell-bent on just ignoring what is going on. The investigation is still on-going. … but the Captain of the Maui flight was brand new. There was a new-hire First Officer, and my understanding is that we almost lost an airplane for no good reason. Both have been sent back to go through the 4-week course. …

The new-hire first officer on my fleet is a nightmare. It took him 50 hours to get through Initial Operating Experience. Worse yet, talking to his instructor, out of his 25 landings in the simulator, 15 ended up in the dirt. Not one of them was on the centerline of the runway. They said his radio work is like that of a private pilot. He has no situational awareness.

One can only surmise this is coming, or has already come, to Air NZ as well? How long before DIE leads to unsafe airlines?

  The fact that an airline (clearly NOT Air New Zealand) made a decision you don’t like, combined with an issue on a flight you also don’t have all the facts on, is no excuse for your homophobic rant.
  Gee! I thought the world had moved on from that crap.
  To suggest that any airline would deliberately compromise safety for any reason is ludicrous, as is the notion that gay people aren’t safe in charge of an aircraft.

    An airline doesn’t have to deliberately compromise safety. They can compromise safety unintentionally trying to please some woke segment of the population.
    
    If an airline actually has safety as a paramount objective they would only hire and place the most qualified people, not select people based on their sexual preferences.
    
    Even selecting the most qualified gay people reduces the talent pool.

  Air NZ proudly paints its plane to the Sydney gayfest pink, so they’re well & truly on board.
  
  Having said that, they’d be pushing DIE if they insisted on male cabin crew staff being heterosexual in proportion to the general population. Imagine the furore – Air NZ refuses to recruit gay male cabin crew in the interests of diversity!

  The Cult of Climate Change (CCC) continues. It is a religious cult with the hallmarks. It predicts the end of the planet unless its policies are implemented. It labels those who wish to engage in reasoned debate Deniers.
  It ignores the fact that cheap reliable energy has raised living standards in the West. China is currently building over 100 coal fired power stations India likewise. African countries will want to do the same to lift the living standards of their people.
  Yet the CCC will see the poor get poorer the rich get richer and those in the middle join the poor. The only winners will be Governments and rich elites. Governments will be able to better control an improvished population and the rich elites will have a source of cheap labour.

      Capitalism results in reduced population because the productivity of each worker increases due to investment in technology. That is, industrialisation raises living standards, increases health outcomes, empowers women especially, which results in a decrease in children born for a variety of reasons, that is, children become a choice not a necessity or an accident.
      
      Over time population decreases but wealth grows. Capitalism is the greatest force for “saving the planet” that has ever been invented. The Greens hate capitalism**. That should reveal their real motives.

        I understand that birth rate decreases are true for the developed world since women’s education, right plus the pill & abortion became more available from 1970s however the general improvement of global living stds resulting from the ~70 years of capitalism from WW2 has seen the global population treble in that same period.

        Not in the mature capitalist economies, which is what my comment relates to. Most such countries think their declining birthrates are a problem. They are not. That concern is based on the flawed idea that a growing population is necessary for a growing economy. It’s not.
        
        From the early 19th century to the late 20th century, populations in these countries grew enormously as agricultural and industrial revolutions allowed people, especially children, to live better, healthier lives, and indeed with the growth in birth control and the emancipation of women from the constraints of motherhood, birth rates have declined, and thus populations have.
        
        People in under-developed parts of the world tend to breed like flies when the conditions are suitable but suffer huge death tolls and miseries when natural disasters and famines strike. When I was a kid there was a never-ending series of such disasters, in Asia, Africa and particularly in the subcontinent. Nature is cruel to people that lack industrialisation and the sustaining wealth that it brings.
        
        But since as late as the 80s, these disasters have had less of an impact as these parts of the world get wealthier and wiser.

  Scott: This is going to lead to a blizzard of down ticking…but my ideal flight crew is both men, both well over 30 (race isn’t relevant). I am comfortable if one of the pilots is female.
  
  I am not at all comfortable when there are two women at the pointy end, and here’s one reason why.
  
  Those with reasonably long memories with recall the utter distruction of the career of a fellow called Alasdair Thompson, long the head of the Employers Federation. Back in 2011 the poor fellow foolishly made this observation in an interview regarding pay equity:
  
  “Look at who takes the most sick leave. Women do, in general, why? Because once a month they have sick problems. Not all women, but some do they have children they have to take time off to go home and take leave of.
  
  He said that in an interview with a shrew called Long-Maori-Name Forbes, who had left the camera on when the fool assumed it was off.
  
  Fast forward ten years, and it is now a human rights issue that some women have very heavy/painful periods, and enlightened employers are supposed to recognise that and offer extra “menstruation sick leave” – paid of course – for those women who need it.
  
  There are ads for “period panties” so some of these unfortunate women can continue to work during their periods and not risk embarrassing “accidents” at work – or elsewhere. In other words it is now recognised that menstruation is very – well – diverse – for some women it’s no problem, for others it can be debilitating.
  
  If Mr Thompson is still alive he must be absolutely spewing.

    David, about pilots, I don’t think you should be worrying about 2 women flying the plane. I have long studied the causes of air accidents and near misses (just as a hobby). Pilot error has long been the major cause of accidents (although flying is safer than ever). Complacency and arrogance are the main causes. Also in some cultures (Egypt, Korea, and Pakistan are great examples), the hierarchy means that the First Officer will sometimes not speak up when the Captain makes a mistake. There have been cases of the First Officer just sitting there watching the Captain fly the plane into a mountain because he was too intimidated to do something.
    
    So stop worrying about menstruating women flying you. 🙂

      Pilots are required to have regular medicals to keep their licence. These are not done by the local GP. They are conducted by Aviation Medical Examiners and they are very, very, thorough.

      I’d be more worried about some “you go girl” type with a massively inflated ego flying the plane. As you said, a great deal of accidents are caused by the complacency of arrogance. We’ve seen what happens when you put one of these types in charge of a country.

    After the return flight will they return the plane to hits normal colours or maybe keep it in store until next years parade.

  Alarming but not surprising. We have been joking privately in this household for sometime about the inevitable impact of distracted wokeness on airlines – because we fly quite a lot. It’s the classic circumstantial clash of ideology versus safety is it not?! I recently flew Air NZ and was in the front row. Was fully exposed to the ramblings of a rabidly, camp “look at me” male steward. The icing on the cake was him hand picking a young boy to hand out the lollies and dressing him in a hostesses garb (pink scarf etc) for full effect. It was stomach churning and I wondered what was being missed whilst all this nonsense was going on.

  In the last two months, there have been three high profile near misses in the USA. One is the one you mentioned in Hawaii. The other two were caused by Air Traffic Control.
  
  During the pandemic when air travel crashed, many pilots 50+ took early retirement. Now air travel is rebounding there is a shortage of experienced pilots.

Earlier G made the Comment that Muller has promised there would be no reduction in production in New Zealand due to his radical Climate Crises policies.
What G has missed is that by appointing a “True Believer” to the Climate Change portfolio Luxon is already costing New Zealand productive investment and production now and into the future.
Prudent investors consider political trends before putting their capital and time into producing things and right now National’s radical wetness is a giant red flag.

    The crux of the video is that cyclones are in fact forecast to hit New Zealand less but rainfall may be heavier based on low confidence models.
    Coupled with Ian Wishart’s digging up a series of much worse storms from the late 1800s Luxon looks more and more like a woke joke.

        NIWA have been asked about the missing storms from the 1800’s and their answer is that their database is a work in progress. In other words, they have not said that Wishart is wrong, but instead have implied that they haven’t got around to entering the storms that Wishart found.

      That was the agri part, and I said that months ago, where is this wrong? Farmers them self want to contribute to emissions, they work with this rotten government and had an agreement, but the liar Ardern dropped a lot out, so farmers want this, as for on farm emissions they have stated we can lower this by scientific measures, there are already several grasses that cut emissions by a considerable amount, this government will not give these farmers credit.

Science, as a discipline is buggered. It is corrupted, increasingly valueless and the world is poorer for its now rapid deterioration. Once the basic principles of testing ideas and hypotheses with evidence and observation was the solid cornerstone that underpinned science. There are no ‘facts’ just theories that wait to be proven wrong by the next step in progress.

Now science is heavily politicised. It is riddled with agendas. It dances to the tune of big dollars and is dominated by inflated egos. It is used and abused.

Poor old Richard Dawkins tried bringing some common sense to the debate about so called Māori science. I don’t hold any candles for Dawkins but his comment that mātauranga in science classes is “ludicrous” is timely and hard to refute. He went on to say the changes to the curriculum were “adolescent virtue-signalling”. He criticised mātauranga as “vitalism” where students would be “confused by the doctrine that all life throbs with a vital force conferred by the Earth Mother and Sky Father”. It provided “valuable tips on edible fungi, star navigation and species conservation” before adding, “pity the moas were all eaten”.

Of course, it drew the standard response – “you are a racist”. Dr Tara McAllister responded, “It is boring, embarrassing, inaccurate and full of racist tropes. It is clear Richard Dawkins has no expertise on mātauranga.”

She went on displaying her real agenda and prejudice…. “Dawkins’ comments are, however, a great example of how clearly white supremacy is ingrained in Western sciences globally, and how colonising scientists continue to attempt to undermine the global resurgence of indigenous knowledge, which I will incorporate into my teaching and research”.

There is no such thing as “Western” science unless you are bigoted, blighted, attention seeking and virtue signalling. As for the “white supremacy” – what an evil insult to the greats of the past – Rutherford, Einstein, Tesla, et al.

  To be clear, indigenous knowledge is NOT science. For example Maori figured out that the sap of certain ferns alleviated skin irritation, insect bites etc. No surprise. This discovery was by pure chance. They had no understanding of the pharmacological underpinnings of the substance and why it alleviated pain. There was no way to develop this discovery.
  
  It is astounding that in a modern Western country we are even having this discussion. I am angry that the children of this country are being exposed to this nonsense.

Sadly, quite a few issues emanating from the multi storey Kainga Ora projects foisted upon us down the far end, and there was a LOT of intimidating motorcycle revving last night, so will not be surprised if these children have ‘connections’.   There is a lot of things about the event that weren’t reported that usually are. The car had a 17 year old driver. Was it his or stolen? Fleeing to the Far North – how did they get there? Gang affiliations? Known to police or OT? No record of schooling?

        Yep. Many people now in NZ didn’t have ancestors around at the time of English colonisation. As you say, even if they did that’s got nothing to do with them.
        
        We all share the good and bad fallout from colonisation, regardless of our heritage. I’m thinking given the pre-colonisation living conditions and leadership climate, colonisation was overwhelmingly a net good for everyone.
        
        Some people do not avail themselves of the opportunities right in front of them. That’s fine but ultimately the only person to blame for that is the one in the mirror!
        
        I think the most destructive force for those who think they are hard done by because of events over a century ago, is actually their appallingly self-destructive attitude to life. Perhaps education should include strong financial literacy and lessons on how to get ahead in life.

Now Andrew Coster took over the role of Police Commissioner on 3 April 2020, after an appointment process. At the time, Winston Peters was in a coalition with Jacinda Ardern’s Labour Party, and as Deputy Prime Minister, he would certainly have been consulted on the appointment of Coster at the very least.

It seems that Peters is trying consciously to write himself out of the narrative of the Labour/NZ First government. Either that, or he has forgotten his involvement. Neither bodes well for a successful return to Parliament in 2023.

  It was always ambitious, probably over ambitious to launch such initiatives in the midst of the pandemic. The government got carried away with the 2017 election sweep and has pushed on with health, education, science, RMA and local government ‘reforms’.
  We should have learned by now that root and branch changes are very rarely successful.
  Very interesting too to see Powell’s version of a conflict between government ministers and the MoH on one side and the DHBs/Whatu Ora on the other.

In the UK their media are doing major coverage of the Covid response by their govt and the extreme lengths they went to to control the populace .

In Canada there’s the same concerns in the media over China interference in their Federal election.

Given our close ties to these fellow common law jurisdictions and members of 5 eyes etc I’m astounded ( not really) that our te media pardy is so silent on it .

This week’s “School Strike 4 Climate” protest was a roaring success, according to my dear niece who we dined out with last night. She was front and centre at her march, and regaled me with a long list of what I/we should be doing to save the planet. I listed what I am already doing, and I asked what REAL sacrifices she makes. Blah, blah, blah…until I asked “of course you don’t use social media, or on-line gaming, entertainment and celebrity gossip apps…etc”. Her “innocent” blindspot (or selective ignorance) that these online activities generate one of the largest Carbon-footprints threatening our planet’s future was endearing.

Dear niece (and apparently “all her friends”) are definitely passionate and earnest – but they also choose to be ignorant. I told her I’d keep her dirty little secret: that she’s personally helping to fire up coal-fired power stations and nuclear power plants all over the planet, and in exchange she would stop lecturing me from her position of evident ignorance.

Personally, I think Guyon Espiner tries to make too much of his drinking problem.

Seems like he tries to blame the evil sneakiness of alcohol when he had his first gulp of Leopard beer when he was 10.

Anyone who is regularly waking up with memory blanks should have the intelligence to know that they’re drinking too much.

I’ve gotten as shit faced as the next person in my youth but ultimately I had enough of how it made me feel the next day and just dialed it back.

I don’t know where the NZ culture of “drink till you’re shit faced” came from but that is the primary source of the problem. It’s an addiction to “proving” you’re a tough guy who can hold his piss.

I have just turned off Q&A in utter disgust. I am no supporter of ACT but how Jack Tame has attacked David Seymour regarding climate change is beyond belief after giving James Shaw a fairly easy time. Dragging up statements made by ACT people 15 years ago after his researchers trolling back in the archives. This programme is a disgrace and to think us taxpayers are paying for it. I can only guess it will get worse the nearer we get to the election. He never let Seymour reply. Tame should be censured. Not likely to happen as his true colours shone through. Won’t be watching Q&A and indeed TVNZ again gave up on RNZ a long time ago. Like the public service neutrality does not exist in our mainstream media. I will own up to the fact that I was an old time leftie have no idea what I am today. Maybe just a silly old fart who can’t give up Blowing in the Wind.

I’ve just read a long feature in Stuff by Michelle Duff about where the money goes and who profits from pre-school education.
It was all so predictable. Having other people care for small children while the parents worked was sold as liberating – especially for mothers.
But it was obvious back then – and I’m talking about the 90s – that when big money and government funding was on offer then it would become a business despite the cutesy names for the centres.
Ms Duff seems to be surprised by that.
I am not. To me, and I was a fulltime parent, it was always going to be so.
In 2009 my eldest grandchild, who is now 14, was enrolled in a rather trendy and popular childcare in inner-city Wellington. She was 13 months.
I didn’t express any opinion. I wasn’t her parent. Her mother and father had rent to pay and financial commitments and one salary from the government agency where they both worked wasn’t cutting it.
I remember her parents telling me about the ‘churn’ of staff, and they were uneasy.
There was young Heidi from Heidelberg. Mei from Hong Kong. Nastya from Ukraine. Tereza from Warsaw. And so on.
Apparently lovely young women and good with little children they did not stay long. They had no personal interest in their little charges.
My granddaughter would no sooner form an attachment with Maria from Rio and Maria was gone and replaced by Lucie from Luton.
I found it highly disturbing but then what did I know? I’m just the grandfather. But it seemed perverse to me that children didn’t have someone to bond with long term. And was it good for a child?
I have mixed feelings about day care and child care. It is a business. However much Anna from Auckland might say to a grandchild that she loves them the truth is she doesn’t. She’s doing a job and presumably getting paid for it.
She will move on, and she does.
On the other hand I can’t deny that it appears to have benefits.
My grandchildren in Brisbane started their school knowing stuff that in New Zealand they would expect to learn until they were in the primers. But child care over there apparently was better subsidised and better organised.
(The Catholic-run child care centre near my grandkids’ school stipulated 50-50 male-female staff. That was interesting and different – keen young Aussie blokes interacting with little kids.)
I have a granddaughter in New Zealand who until a few months had been at a nice little day care place since she was about 18 months.
She is part-Asian and the staff at the centre were mainly Chinese, Korean, Filipina, along with some Maori and Pacific Islanders. The place was managed by a Polish woman.
I feel she was lucky because the staff were mostly mothers themselves and they appeared genuinely to like and care about their little charges.
The main benefit for my granddaughter, I feel, was that day care gave her playmates and so she learned to get on with people.
She was well-prepared for school when she started. But you hear anecdotes about other child care places where the reality is that they are impersonal babysitting services and just collecting the money.

  ECE. There was a lot going on in that article, including that community run centres were being forced to close. The link led to an article about specific centre at AUT, running at 50% capacity and losing money.
  
  If it is such a lucrative business why are community centres being ‘forced to close’. If they are. Maybe it is due to the level of regs, processes, ideological curriculum requirements and documentation required. Didn’t see that traversed in the article.
  
  Staff churn. From what I’ve seen, the requirement for qualified teachers along with a serious shortage of same means centres take what they can get to meet the ratios. New grads are likely to be young, inexperienced women who find out centres have rules and processes and the work is hard.
  
  I thought the article had some good points but was very biased towards how dare they make profits from our children.
  
  Meantime I see Mr Luxon is proposing fewer consultants and more childcare subsidy. All good but is that a solution for the wrong problem? What does he think the problem is?

Sam Stubbs goes after New Zealand’s big Australian-owned banks at Stuff today.

He suggests a monopoly inquiry.

The banks will be a popular target as the economy slides, but let’s get the facts right.

The big banks have different Australian owners, and there are NZ banks in competition with them: the TSB, the SBS, the Co-operative, Heartland – and Kiwibank. So they aren’t a monopoly.

Stubbs raises a question that he says originates with Adrian Orr, Labour’s honcho at the Reserve Bank. This, says Stubbs, is:

”Why do banks get to privatise their profits, yet socialise their losses? If the taxpayer bails them out when they go bust, shouldn’t bank shareholders pay for that protection via lower profits?”

Orr thinks that about the big mainstream banks in NZ?

If these Aussie banks go broke and anyone bails them out it will be the Australian Government. It looks as though our main banks in NZ are “insured” in the broad sense, or covered, or pseudo-guaranteed at no cost to NZ. Kiwi taxpayers won’t be needed to bail them out.

Notable bailouts of banks in NZ have been of the Bank of New Zealand while it was New Zealand owned.

There are some advantages in having big banks owned in Australia. My memory of the 1987 financial dive was that Australian banks’ drew on their non-NZ cash to tide the NZ system over a critical few days.

Ideally, we would have big, thriving NZ banks. However, we are a small economy, and not a dazzling one. Denmark (population about 6 million) has a dozen banks, with big ones like Danske. The Netherlands (about 17.5 million people) has huge banks like ABN Amro, ING Group, and Rabobank. The economies of both those countries outshine NZ’s.

Trying to regulate profits downwards for banks (controls would have also to be on NZ banks) is socialist dreaming.

We don’t have the resources or the chops to build a big bank or two of our own, so the solution would be to attract other big international banks to the country, or get Rabobank or the like to grow and widen their NZ services.

His well crafted and thoughtful opening op-eds were a delight to listen to and described perfectly the issues of the day facing NZ society.

Yesterday I went to the Onehunga Festival.
If Wayne Brown gets his way funding will be stopped to this and similar community events around Auckland.
If WB has his way next year there will be no Onehunga Festival because most of the money needed to run the event comes from the council.
This may not bother a lot of people, but if enough of these events are cancelled it also effects the viability of small businesses that sell food on site.

  Whether you agree with Brown or not, he’s going to struggle to defund these types of events due to two reasons.
  
  Firstly, he can’t opt Council out of these kind of events because it is actually a requirement of law, namely the Local Government Act 2002, which states that the purpose of local government is ‘to promote the social, economic, environmental, and cultural well-being of communities in the present and for the future.’ This is why Council’s the length and breadth of NZ have to support community groups, community festivals with support usually being a synonym for fund. They may be able to reprioritise funding, but they can’t just flatly reject to fund/support these events – they’d be wide open to a challenge that they are in breach of the Act. I’d imagine they could argue that funding needs to be reigned back and that they will meet the obligation to ‘support/promote’ in other ways. Regardless, the local government legislation means he has very little room for manoeuvre.
  
  Secondly, and reinforces the first point, the Mayor is but one vote around the Council table. Unless Brown, or any Councillor can convince a majority of his or her peers to vote in a particular direction, he can shout from the rooftops all he wants, but he is one vote. I believe it’s called democracy.
  
  If he manages to convince a majority of Council that, no doubt due to exceptional financial constraints, Council cannot financially support these festivals, then they may well be defunded or ‘support’ will be pulled back so that council can live within it’s means.
  
  Whatever happens, Brown will be but one vote.

  MCos, in my view you’re barking up the wrong tree.
  
  The question is not whether these festivals have some good, or that without council funding they MAY wither.
  
  The question in my view is where should festival funding sit on council’s list of priorities and whether even one dollar of ratepayer money should go into festival funding when we have massive infrastructural investment and service level deficits.
  
  I argue that councils can prioritise calls on their investment into ‘must haves’ and ‘nice to haves’ and that successive councils have failed miserably in their governance responsibilities over generations in funding ‘nice to haves’ at the direct expense of the ‘must haves’.
  
  And boy are we paying for that now.

Just wondering if anyone else is noting scams at the supermarkets etc?

Heard a few anecdotal stories of grocery receipts not matching up etc and items of clothing not in the bags.

Went from anecdotal to actual this week. Wife had something similar happen this week – nice bottle of wine not in the bag, one top out of four not packed. Not massive but never happened previously.

Not sure if this is just random carelessness on the part of the checkout staff, everyday retail crime that always happens and is built into pricing, or maybe a symptom of wider cost of living issues?

Be interested to hear if anyone else is noticing a similar uptick in this kind of thing?

I see National will be upping the subsidy to ECE providers – whoops – I meant ECE customers ….

A bit like the accommodation supplement which got baked into rent increases – flowing to owners – boosting both their income and the value of their asset. What’s not to like?

Subsidy to be funded from the proceeds of trimming the public service. I guess it would be nice if they could specify what would likely be trimmed to generate the required savings.

  They also have to be better resourced so that they can ensure that all children, no matter what their problems, obtain approppriate diagnosis and early treatment.
  While at it, they could also make certain that privacy doesn’t prevent those who need the information being excluded from it.

He was telling me that he and his wife had booked to go to Fiji tomorrow for a few days. Like us, they won’t be here for the Census unfortunately.

What I did find staggering, was he said this years Census is costing the taxpayer in excess of 250 million dollars!!
That right folks….OVER-A-QUARTER-OF-BILLION.

Imagine what that have done for the poor folks in Esk Valley?
And they won’t even be included in the counting!!

  I’ve been using it on and off and have recently asked it for specific references for its sources. It produces an impressive list, but Google Scholar and the referenced journal/authors website and can’t find them.
  
  I the push for a specific link, and get the 404 when I try it. I challenge and it gives me another 404 with fulsome apologies. Another challenge and it goes back to the original.
  
  I suspect it is designed to conceal its tracks.

As well as Luxon’s vast promise to deliver and do, there are a couple of things needing to be undone as well.

I am a bit late in the day with this- but why the heck are the people at Te News NZ so worried about former UK PM Boris Johnson allegedly holding a party at his place more than two years ago during a Covid lockdown?
There was a massive (by NZ standards) “news item” about it on the 6pm news last night (or might have been night before) with some NZ reporter pontificating that Johnson should be prosecuted or something.
He already had to step down as PM.
Why would this “news” be of significance for us here?
Trying to make Johnson into the UK version of Mr Trump perhaps.
Strange that no reporters here would dream of putting in the same amount of time and rhetoric on challenging the dumb stuff the Labour Party in NZ does behind closed doors.

  There are 3 threads here:
  
  1. The UK parliamentary privileges committeee is investigating whether he lied to Parliament about parties had at 10 Downing St, which he attended during the 2nd UK covid lockdown. When there were strict measures regarding social gatherings. The gatherings breached the rules. Johnson told parliament he didn’t know this at the time.
  
  2. Evidence shows Johnson knew rules were being broken, but Johnson didn’t correct his statements. The evidence has come in the form of Whatsapp texts from the phone of disgraced Health Secretary Matt Hancock (who also broke the rules by having an affair with his Assistant.
  
  3. Compounding all this, the person who did the first review into the Downing Street Parties, Sue Grey (a senior civil servant) has now been appointed Chief of Staff by the Labour Opposition Leader.
  
  Only in the al, la, la land of politics…..

I demand that the Labour government tells the local film producers to piss off and that they should just concentrate on producing content that people want to see and are willing to pay for. That way we’ll all be better off.

Modern politics is annoying and frustrating, but one of the most entertaining things about it is when conservatives troll left-wingers. So much of it takes place on social media, but sometimes the trolling actually takes place in legislatures.

The latest instance of conservative political trolling has taken place in Florida, and it’s so brilliant it might be the greatest political trolling job ever.

On Tuesday, State Sen. Blaise Ingoglia (R-11th district) filed SB 1248, gloriously titled “The Ultimate Cancel Act,” which, in its ultra-sanitized summary, would call on the state of Florida to “immediately cancel the filings of a political party if certain conditions exist; requiring the division to follow a certain procedure; requiring the division to provide a specified notice to certain voters; authorizing a canceled political party to reregister with the Department of State; providing procedures for an organization to reregister as a political party.”
