■ No co-governance in RMA reforms – Environment Minister David Parker
Unlike the Government’s reforms to the health sector and three waters, which both involve different forms of what can be called co-governance, its replacement to the Resource Management Act would involve consultation with Maori, but no co-governance.

More involvement for Māori [condensed]
Interacting with more than 60 Treaty settlements, the new legislation is to “give effect to the principles of te Tiriti o Waitangi and greater recognition of te ao Māori, including mātauranga Māori“.
“Give effect to” is a more active requirement than the old RMA that the principles to be “taken into account”.

A new independent National Māori Entity will monitor Treaty responsibilities and assess the system’s overall effect.
Seven members will be each appointed for up to six years – on a rolling basis – by the minister, from nominations by Māori. Between them the members will need experience and knowledge of te Tiriti, tikanga Māori, mātauranga Māori, monitoring and reporting, knowledge of the law, communications and governance.
Planning committees will also consult with affected iwi and hapū groups, and they will be able to at any time submit a statement on te oranga o te taiao, which roughly translates as ‘the wellbeing of the environment’.

The legislation describes it as: “a te ao Māori concept that speaks to the health of the natural environment, the essential relationship between the health of the natural environment and its capacity to sustain life, and the interconnectedness of all parts of the environment”
The legislation does not require anything be done about these statements.

Finally, the legislation would also set up a new Freshwater Working Group, which would provide recommendations on allocation.
There is also a clause within the legislation which states any rights or interests in freshwater or geothermal resources are preserved, consistent with a 2012 High Court ruling.

The new “National Māori Entity” does sound a little like the Maori Advisory Council to Taumata Arowai governing “3 Waters”, and a te oranga o te taiao (environmental wellbeing) statement does sound very much like an unbridled Mana o te Wai (water worship) “3 Waters” statement – one ~~Statement~~ Edict to Rule them all – not just “co-governance”, but “complete governance”?

Of course, what has been passed and is law for “3 Waters” should now be perpetrated on the new RMA?

      Not quite. Three Waters isn’t scheduled to come into force until 2024, so an incoming National-Act government could put an immediate halt on any empire-building. Having done that, they would then be able to enact the legislation repealing Three Waters, and by that time, we will know what National’s proposed replacement legislation looks like.

  I believe that the Natural and Built Environment Act will be a far, far worse nightmare than the RMA. The regional “planning committees” have equal representation from Iwi and Councils. How is that not a form of “co governance”?
  
  Resource consenting decisions will be based on “mātauranga Māori”, essentially mythology. It is an absolute horror show.

  Having had the misfortune to see the RMA approval process up close in recent times, any rhetoric that denies co-governance is purely semantic. Councils know what way the tide is running and involve Iwi wherever possible, regardless of the proposal or the land it would happen on. It often amounts to a situation where Council AND Iwi APPROVAL is needed, and if the Council sniffs that Iwi is nervous / opposed then you won’t get their approval anyway. A separate but related issue is the erosion of private property rights – in practice it is sometimes already asserted that Iwi have jurisdiction over what should or shouldn’t happen on private land. This will be followed through much more strongly under the reforms. From what I’ve seen this can be at egregious levels that overreach NZ property law, the RMA and the principles of contract and natural justice. Basically it is at a level that certificates of title for private property should be tagged to signal to property owners that Iwi have a legal claim over their property. When this is fully understood in the marketplace the impact on investment confidence will be enormous, with direct and obvious downstream impacts on the economy in general. We are really playing with fire, and the lawmakers need to seriously reacquaint themselves with the preconditions for economic success and social well-being, because I see a slow but steady descent into third world status the way things are going.

    Very few will even understand the question is my belief. It won’t even occur to most how the pie exists in the first place or how to make it bigger over time – and what things can jeopardise the pie’s existence.

  Paragraph 1 – ‘that his resident visa was granted as a result of an administrative error’. BS – the Immigration Department was a victim of fraud.

    I haven’t bothered clicking on it, so no idea who it’s by or any of the details, but if anybody wants to take one for the team please do report back.
    
    I idly wondered if the person behind it had given any thought to the huge administrative nightmares and vast expense of officially renaming our country, but as I say – can’t be bothered clicking on something that to me is little more than mere clickbait.

    Both $1Stuufed and the Horrid ran the same story on the same day.
    
    Now, how could that possibly have even, just like the news media management today. Govt spinmeisters have been in overdrive, given:
    
    1. Lose the deportation story from the front pages of the MSM;
    2. Then plant stories (RNZ & TVNZ websites) about why 3/5 Waters is so necessary – apparently, Canterbury beaches have had to be closed because of poor water quality. Statistics for the last 5 years show that parts of Lyttleton Harbour have had regular water quality issues. There is no indication of source, the report just says faecel material. It then goes on to talk about water issues around the country. Pro.ving it is a plant story inferring how we need 3 Waters to fix such problems.
    
    National’ & Act’s reality checks are:
    1 the MSM are propaganda vehicles for the govt;
    2. Don’t rely on the MSM to get the messages out;
    3. Smart use of alternative/independent media fo rms is an imperative.

      National and Act need to realise the media are the enemy, and deal with them accordingly. All media subsidies gone by lunchtime, alladvertising stopped, unless it is a clear and defined purpose, signed off by the minister, so no more feel good ads. Take advantage of Wily Jackson’s amalgamation and sell both tvnz and red radio as a going concern, $1 reserve and other government taxpayer funding.

        NMTB, we are in the same weather pattern that we see every 10 years.
        
        Despite what Chief NIWA twit Brandalino said, I was predicting in October to friends and family that:
        
        1. NZ will have a wet summer, with odd periods of dry weather;
        2. Winter 2023 will come early;
        3. The winter will be cold;
        4. It will be a good year for skiing this year.
        
        I have seen the same weather pattern in NZ in 1979/80 & 1989/90. This is not climate change.
        
        PS. Check the birth statistics in the periods Aug -Oct in 1980 and 1990. Amazing what people do on holiday when it is wet.

        Yep. Well known climate cycles. Largely ocean heat slowly drifting around in observable patterns over years, decades and even centuries. The oceans are 70% of the earth’s surface. Then there’s the variable energy output of the sun (which has observable cycles) and earth/solar/planetary orbital variations (which have observable cycles). The human portion of Co2 in the atmosphere is minuscule and the effect of Co2 on the climate is minuscule after a certain concentration is reached (already reached). Like co-governance, another huge and expensive con job being pushed by narrative worshiping twits, cynical grifters and malignant enemy regimes.

He has done this for the last four years, generally predicting temperatures in the mid 30 degrees C for long periods over the coming summers. This is based, of course, on modelling.

    Well, he wasn’t wrong last year. Anyway we are only just into the second month of summer. There is still February to come.
    Though I tend to be of the view that summer is really from beginning of November to end of March. On that basis it has been wet so far, though sea temperatures are well above the average.
    Hottest summer (or hottest year) is not based on the hottest daily temperature but on average temperatures throughout all 24 hours of the day, and for all of the months of the year. On the basis, it has been quite warm, in large part because nighttime temperatures are relatively high.
    Certainly in Auckland we had a mild winter, with spring time gardening starting significantly earlier than usual. Pohutukawa flowering was also a couple of weeks early and was virtually all over by Christmas.

    In the UK the Met Service would always give predictions to the media and if there were a few weeks of fine weather, we would be told it was going to be a BBQ Summer, and the authorities would impose hose bans. These two events were a sure fired way to encourage the clouds to open up, and summer would be soggy.

        They call the process Homogenisation.
        There has been controversy over changing data in whats called the Seven Station series.
        (cooled the past and warmed the present?)
        Then there is the issue of how the Stevenson Screens they use are just not accurate anyway.
        They use Mercury Thermometers not anything Digital.

        The margin of error is a joke so claiming an increase of point something is not credible.
        The ‘data’ ain’t that flash.
        The US is the only country digitalizing their data collection.
        Then there is Urban Heat Island Effect. Cities put out heat and as we consume more energy then more heat is emitted.
        Putting such issues aside there does seem to be a warming trend over the past 100 years. Its up and down though and NOT a catastrophic increase.
        And any changes are regional-mainly in the Northern Hemisphere. Global averages show minimal warming.

        Unless measurements are like-for-like, they are borderline worthless.
        
        For example, many temperature measurements are taken at airports (temperature needs to be measured to calculate maximum take off weight etc).
        
        But is is reasonable to compare an airport of today with the same airport 50 or 60 years ago?

    As far as MCos’s confusion above re “MAGA” vs McCarthy while the latter is being backed by Trump, that $1.7 trillion joke is the reason – and it goes back at least as far as the first failed votes on the TARP bills in late 2008 when most of the GOP and more than a few Democrats voted no on those type of bank bailouts but eventually got rolled. And Trump has never understood “The Swamp”, which is why he selected so many members of it for his administration, as well as still craving the love of the NYT and company even as they hated his guts. It was the reverse of the Truman assessment of Eisenhower.
    
    As has been repeatedly stated, Trump is just a symbol (though he doesn’t know that) of a fight that’s been coming for a long time and is going to get uglier as US Federal debt rises. The Biden’s, McConnell’s, and McCarthy’s don’t accept that.
    
    But if you do want to understand what’s going on, look at this exchange between Fox News’s Ingraham and Texas House Rep, Chip Roy:

    Exactly, and this fight between the go-along-to-get-along status quo types and those who recognise the need for fundamental changes, is coming to this country as well, sooner or later. In many respects it’s a repeat of the early 1980’s where people knew things were failing; whether you liked it or not Rogernomics, or something like it, was going to happen.
    
    Same now, only this time it will be with Social Welfare, Healthcare and Education – although god knows our business/economic productivity needs a massive improvement too, since everything else rests on that.

    All evidence available and emerging says exactly the opposite. ALL evidence. The vaccines MAY have saved some people who were already seriously ill or at risk, but they have killed and injured many more.
    Lockdowns saved nobody. They killed people.
    
    Lockdowns MAY have delayed some deaths, but ultimately the miracle vaccine which MIGHT have justified these actions didn’t transpire.
    
    People were forced to hide under the bed, (though some embraced this stupidity.) People were forced to wear virtue signaling, pointless face nappies that do more harm than good.
    All that these actions achieved was weakened immune systems and unhealthy people became even unhealthier and more prone to serious illness when infected with a respiratory illness.
    Mental health has been damaged, particularly in children. This will impact negatively on a whole generation.
    The economy has been devastated, thousands of lives have been negatively impacted, family relationships and friendships have been destroyed.
    
    Cheap, safe, alternative treatments were banned. Antibody testing was banned. Everything was about the “vaccine.”
    
    There was NOTHING done to educate people about taking actions to strengthen their immune systems through diet, exercise, fresh air and ensuring adequate intake of vitamin D, C and zinc
    
    There was NOTHING done to prepare the health system for an increase in hospital visits due to an expected flood of covid infections.
    
    Based on the above facts, on what planet can Ardern claim to have saved anyone? She is delusional. Actually no, she fully understands that she failed utterly.
    
    This is simply the whitewashing of reality.

Sitting here in NZ it’s fascinating to watch to House Republicans attempting to elect a speaker in America.
Last I looked they were up to the fifth round of voting.
The last time the first vote failed, 100 years ago, it required nine ballots over three days to name a speaker. In 1856, the speakership wasn’t resolved until the 133rd ballot.
Trump has endorsed the front runner, but the self serving few holding up his election are also MAGA types. Figure that out.

As that isn’t going to happen, they will wait for the republicans to vote for their current choice from the fringe, Donalds, which also isn’t going to happen.

I posted this late last night and said I would post here today as it would be missed by most.

It’s a story re the measles outbreak in Samoa a few years ago. That story was used to pump the covid fear porn here and drive the vaccine narrative.

It makes for disturbing reading. If true, the implications are significant and worrying.

For those still up and about, have an early read. Let me know your thoughts.

Before Christmas Paula Jardine reported for TCW on the strange case of the South Pacific island nation of Samoa’s 2019 ‘lockdown’ and compulsory mass measles vaccination programme over a period which saw the deaths of 76 under-fives. Since then she has interviewed the Samoan businessman Edwin Tamasese who reported widespread measles outbreaks six to seven days post-vaccination, and who was subsequently arrested for distributing the Vitamin A the children needed to cope with either the vaccine or a measles infection. As Paula explained in her previous article, the high mortality was more likely to be due to a combination of malnutrition and an under-attenuated vaccine – that is, a vaccine where the virus had not been sufficiently weakened before being administered, as opposed to the disease itself. Here she reports Edwin Tamasese’s story.

I remember this outbreak and how the “anti vaxxers” were blamed for causing hesitancy around other jabs.

For me personally, the vaccine story is evolving like the “climate crisis” story.

Prior to covid, I didn’t really have a pro or anti position about either narrative. I was fully jabbed for every other vaccine. I live off grid, doing my bit for 20 years to be a dutiful citizen and help “save the planet.” I didn’t question anything. I was a fairly staunch “leftie” Labour supporter.

I was curious about those who steadfastly refused to have any vaccinations and thought them a little odd. No longer.
I was curious about those who seemed so angry at the climate change protesters. No longer.
I abandoned Labour like a bucket of cold sick within weeks of Ardern becoming leader.

The parallels in the two narratives are striking.

I read someone this morning who stated it well for me. I’ll try and dig it out and post it later.
The point they made is that the bs climate change narrative has been evolving over decades. It’s slowly built into this nightmare “carbon zero.”

The bs covid narrative is like watching the same thing, only this time using time lapse photography which has speeded the process up.
This might have been the biggest mistake as it’s exposed so much and caused many people to ask inconvenient questions.

More popcorn needed. 2023 is going to be a very interesting year. Ideologies are colliding. Truth will be the winner.

        I’ve had enough derision, snorting, smearing and ad hominem over covid in the last three years to last me a lifetime. It really is water off a duck’s back.

        Vaccines don’t cause autism, and the MMR vaccines does not cause measles, mumps or rubella. To argue otherwise is the next step toward becoming a 9/11 ‘truther’, believing the Apollo missions were faked, or that the earth is hollow, (or flat), etc.
        Not being happy with mRNA vaccines for covid-19 is not a great basis for embracing any pseudoscientific theory because it is outside the despised mainstream.

    cmm – good question, I would have to say I’m not overly enthused by Luxon and National and in particular, Chris “jab harder” Bishop’s refusal to admit he got it wrong.
    However, there isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell of me voting for Labour in the current form. There isn’t one of their MPs who I have any respect for. Same with the Greens.
    Back in the day when Janette and Rod led that party they actually stood for things they believed in and their sandal wearing mung bean eating supporters were relatively harmless. The current “woke”, ideological morons who now sit in parliament are terrifying.
    
    ACT give me some hope, but again, their covid response wasn’t a lot better than every other party in the Beehive. I’ve said before, the fact that not one out of 120 MPs spoke for the hundreds of thousands of NZers who opposed mandates and lockdowns is very concerning. The protesters at Wellington had over 30% support among the general population.
    I didn’t know that when I went there, but it was comforting to find out later. The number is almost certainly higher now.
    The fact that Winnie is the one who has recognised this and is likely to take advantage of it makes me wonder why National didn’t see this?
    
    But then I don’t think like a politician. They are all about focus groups and pragmatism.
    I can vow without a shred of doubt that my mission this year will be to do whatever it takes to remove the Labour Party and as much of the Greens and Maori Party as possible. Until they have people leading and driving policy who do so for ALL Nzers. White, brown, black or yellow. Jabbed or unjabbed.

        I too would not write off Peters, Clan Mclod. He’s younger that Joe Biden, Donald Trump or Nancy Pelosi. He could probably command a core 3-4% support from over over-80s and then pivot to embrace the 80-90,000 voters who were split in 2020 between New Conservative, Advance, Vision NZ, Outdoors and TEA.

  The first step towards reconciliation is repentance. The offender must be willing to confess the transgression and acknowledge the pain it caused the offended.

The NFL player Damar Hamlin had a heart attack during a game the other night. Unfortunately due to the lies and censorship by many governments around covid and the “vaccines” there was speculation around what happened to him and that it was the “vaccine.”

I certainly didn’t do so and I didn’t see anyone else on KB do so either.
There was a firm comment from one person that he definitely died due to Commotio Cordis, the media had said so. My response was simply that it was impossible for anyone to know until tests and checks were carried out.

I have been asked to speculate about the cardiac arrest suffered by Damar Hamlin. First off, I truly believe that giving his physicians and trainers space to work professionally is critical: we need to allow them to do the tests, diagnostics and whatever procedures need to be performed outside of the glare of corporate media AND internet armchair physicians.

Likewise, his family deserves privacy. I know what it is like to have the press and the public think that they are entitled to know about every aspect of a public person’s life. To be put under the microscope. For these reasons, I have refrained from making comments on social media until today.

First, I think it is irresponsible for the state-sponsored press to be declaring that this was not due in some part to a vaccine injury this early in the game. Because we don’t know, no one does – not even his physicians. I speculate that assuming he got vaccinated and boosted is probably a reasonable inference, given it is the policy of his team that there is 100% compliance with COVID vaccine mandates. The corporate press getting in and attempting to skew the public opinion is a despicable move, but typical.

It’s an outstanding article and is written without the bullshit that comes from the “pro” and “anti” vaccine camps. This is a direct result of the attempt by government and media to suppress any public debate.
Young athletes, professional and amateur ARE dying in unprecedented numbers. Something is causing it and it’s best we find out why. The only way to do so is through open and honest dialogue, not by people screaming at each other.

  I just wish to point out that krazykiwi did not say that Damar Hamlin “definitely died due to commotio cordis” (nor did G the giant), nor had “the media”.

      However, over a 38 year period there were 1,101 sudden cardiac deaths in athletes under 35. That’s around 29 per year.
      In the two years since the rollout of the vaccine there have been 1,114. I’m sure you can do the maths for yourself and at least agree there is something going on?
      
      Correlation is not causation, but this is an alarming signal that should, at the very least, see the programme suspended. Particularly for those under 50. They should not be resumed until a very thorough investigation has taken place.

    The only VERBATIM use of the term commotio cordis was indeed by KK. He was replying to G the Giant who had said:

    You are referring to commotio cordis which is a heart attack caused by the heart receiving a massive direct shock at a key point in the cardiac cycle. It is VERY rare, occurring ~20 times a year in the US and almost always in pre-teen or teen boys who are struck with a baseball or hockey puck.

Interesting article in the Herald stating that “ from 2015 until October 2022 213 Police staff faced 274 charges arising from 207 “incidents”. Of those 274 charges, 82 convictions were recorded, 157 were discharged, dismissed, withdrawn or acquitted after a trial before a jury or judge alone”, so tested in court and found wanting. Around a 35 % conviction rate. A very poor success rate and I would say indicative of Police fitting up their own regardless of the strength of the evidence. No wonder they have trust issues.

  It would suggest that cases against Police are more likely to be tested in Court. That might be a good thing for public confidence in the probity of the Police – if the evidence has been heard and found wanting by independent judges and juries, the Police cannot be accused of protecting their own.
  It’s undoubtedly unpleasant for Police officers and their families, but is there an alternative?

Sweden got it right.

Between January 2020 and July 2022 (blue dots), Sweden’s age-standardised mortality rate was 4% lower than the five-year average. By contrast, Iceland’s was 3.9% lower, Denmark’s was 2.8% lower and Finland’s was 1.7% lower. This means that Sweden did better than three out of four other Nordics.

Tegnell got it right, and his critics got it wrong.

I’ve just read that bakers are looking at importing egg whites due to the destruction of the local egg supply because of the ban on battery hens. I presume these imported egg whites are only affordable because they come from battery hen eggs, so the only reasonable response from our govt should be to ban imports of all eggs and products derived from them if they come from battery hens. Yes? Or are they really only interested in wrecking the egg market in NZ?

I wonder what the govt (I gather it was a National-led one) expected to happen to the market after making this law change. Did they expect the situation we’re in right now? Are they congratulating themselves on a job well done?
