      Very thoughtful of you mikey for celebrating today the 2ooth anniversary of Louis Pasteur, who was a very good Catholic, and prayed often that he would receive divine assistance in his work.
      As a further memorial, it is today the feast day of St. John, Apostle & evangelist, who was the youngest of the apostles, and was the only apostle who was not martyred. 🙂

        I’ve never read of anyone who thought Julius Caesar was a mythical figure. Please enlighten me.
        As for Shakespeare, yes there are many educated people who claim that other individuals wrote the plays and sonnets attributed to the Bard of Avon. There is no real evidence for the Oxfordian or Baconian outside the conceit of the ingenious arguments put forward by the deluded proponents. Shakespeare’s existence as person is questioned by no one.

      Being almost entirely covid free until near the end of 2021 NZ and Australia in effect formed a huge natural vaccine safety trial, and the results are damning.
      
      Excess death data from ’20-’21 pre-covid infected NZ and Australia showed a huge jump in excess deaths after the start of vaccination programs throught he middle of 2021 before covid took off.
      
      In NZ that was equal to about 2000 extra people dying.
      
      There is litte doubt that the vaccine is causing a huge number of deaths through subtle cardiovascular (especially heart) damage. But with all the reputations and careers on the line, and huge Pharma lobbying/advertising budgets (they own the loyalties of the key institutions that would normally be working to get to the bottom of this), it will take years perhaps decades for there to be any sort of honest accounting.

        As a regular proponent of the concept that “the plural of anecdote is not data” – I like to see solid data before drawing conclusions. So I am not relying just on my own practice over the last two years but also, the (ever-increasing) global documentation of excess deaths and the likely cause. What is interesting, because it is entirely absent from any public discussion in New Zealand, is that excess deaths are in double figures (depending on which governments’ figures you’re looking at, between 11 and 17%) and most spectacularly and/or awfully – feature in 2021 after the jabs and boosters were provided, mandated and indeed insisted upon; NOT ( excuse the caps) in 2020 when the Wu pox was apparently supposed to be wreaking its level havoc across the globe.
        
        I suspect like many posting on this blog, I’m proffering an opinion and not expecting to change anybody’s mind; = this is my opinion, it’s worth exactly what you paid for it which is nothing. I conserve and channel my active efforts elsewhere = into asking appropriate questions and doing my best to influence the people who make policy… to, obviously, essentially zero avail.
        
        Nevertheless, I think it’s important not just pound the keyboard but to try to influence the people who make those policy decisions even if they are recalcitrant, oblivious, arrogant, tone-deaf, unresponsive apparatchiks who understand only one thing: the best way to Get Ahead in the very Short Term is to enthusiastically support the Current Thing. Be that Co-governance, Mandated jabs, trashing Informed Consent, or proselytizing Assisted Suicide.
        
        What’s (perhaps perversely) fun about this, is that when I approach various institutions with polite inquiries… they go quite quickly and weirdly defensive, I don’t know why: I’m just your average keyboard pounder. I wonder if they are anticipating a higher volume blowback in their short-term futures? for all I know, they’re already getting it but people like you and I don’t know it.
        
        Ah well. Coffee break is over, back to the hard grind of seeing patients and trying to figure out not just what is wrong with them, but can I persuade a bureaucrat to fund the solution.

    Raw milk is okay if consumed fresh. It is not very safe to store and retail. Some people prefer raw milk, and some people with that preference are incapable of determining whether the milk they buy is safe, and some retailers of such milk don’t care if their customers get sick because their product is ‘natural’

      As a kid I grew up on raw milk. and we didn’t have a fridge, just a food safe.
      My early morning job after the milking was done was to go get half a billy of fresh cream. Porridge, fresh cream, butter and brown sugar. Nom nom nom.

      When we were kids and stayed out at the family Bach by the River mouth for a couple of weeks we walked over the fields and picked up some raw milk from the farmer.
      Couldn’t stand the stuff. Warm and lumpy with cream, but Mum who was from a Shrophshire farm swore by it, although she never touched it except in her tea.
      We had no fridge out there and it was often sour by the end of the day.
      God knows what poison we put in our your bodies and people grizzle about chicken McNuggets!

    I agree. I have eaten excellent raw milk cheese because I trust the cheese maker.
    
    However raw milk can easily become dangerously contaminated which caused widespread severe illness and death in young children before pasteurisation.
    
    And that 200 million years of evolution provided the perfect food for calves, not humans trying to drink the stuff on a gigantic scale.

      I agree, like many raw products, we’re back to personal choice and personal responsibility. As you are no doubt aware, one of the most poisonous fish on the planet is also an extremely expensive delicacy. No doubt those who consume it take care to know who is giving it to them and their reputation and skill.
      
      Everything in life carries a degree of risk, but the last thing any of us needs is ideological politicians and bureaucrats attempting to control every single aspect of it for our “safety.”
      This is NZ is in the abysmal state it is today and getting worse by the week. The attempt to eliminate covid is one of the most obvious and worst examples.
      
      “Net zero” carbon emissions, “zero road deaths 2050” and making cigarettes illegal are just 3 of the moronic policies to “protect” the population which will have massive unintended, but predictable and predicted consequences that will far outweigh any possible good that comes out of them.

      The historic issue was drinking raw milk from diseased cows can cause illness or death. Pasteurisation was to milk as a firewall is to modern computer systems. Modern dairy farm practices and advances in veterinary science has resulted in a significant reduction of disease in dairy cows which means the chances of illness from drinking raw milk is far less than in the past. However there is still presumably considered to be sufficient risk that ‘mainstream’ milk needs to be pasteurised before being sold or converted into other dairy products. Fonterra cannot take the risk since if it did not pasteurise the milk it processes there could be sufficient instances of illness or even death as to raise serious concerns about the quality of its products. There are exemptions / loopholes for small time operators but they are unlikely on the basis of size and probabilities to have serious incidents. But one fatality could spell the end of one of these small firms. To illustrate that risks remain, an Australian supplier was selling unpasteurised milk as ‘bath milk’ (presumably Cleopatra style) not intended for human consumption. A child died after drinking ‘bath milk’ (which her parents purchased for human consumption). This shows that risks remain.
      Possibly the time may have come when modern science and quality assurance means that pasteurisation is no longer needed. The issue is whether despite this there continues to be genuine concerns or whether there is bureaucratic inertia on the part of health authorities. It is probably a bit of both.

    Rodney as a kid I and my father used to drink it in a rather scungy looking mug, that was kept in the `single cow bail’ for that purpose, on a regular basis. No running water to wash the mug with.
    
    No one got ill from it – not even my townie cousins two or three of whom stayed with us most school holidays in the late 1950’s early/mid 1960’s.

    Agreed, as Benedict points out though, not really a system that could be trusted for the mass delivery of dairy products to the whole population.
    Like your water supply, we’re off grid, but we know the source and we know the required safety procedures are in place.
    If I had access to raw milk I’d be all over it, sadly we have no dairy farms close to us.

    Just as they were lobbied by the pharmaceutical industry with “reports” and “studies” “proving” just how “safe” and “effective” their products are.
    
    Follow the money. It is almost always leads to the answer to perplexing questions.

Mail-order booze: Alcohol delivery takes off, sparking concerns about lack of regulations

More regs, gotta have more regs. Alarm bells are ringing. But before any new regs, how about figuring out the problem to be solved and the size of that problem. And also how much existing regs and circs have contributed to, or indeed caused, the problem.

Like for example – stop opposition against new licences unless living close to the proposed outlet, hospo outlets closed due to staffing, ram raids and robberies, petrol prices, traffic stops.

Home delivery to the intoxicated should be regulated, they say. Apart from how, and how many are there anyway, have the wannabe regulators considered that the intoxicated will get to their goal somehow, and be more of a danger to themselves and others than staying home on the sofa. Or more likely order up big earlier in the day or have a temporarily apparently sober door-opener.

Noticeable that the organisations pushing for more regs have a stake in the industry one way or another. More regs always mean more money from taxpayers for compliance, and costs on suppliers hence consumers will also have to increase to cover their end of compliance. I expect their deliverers will require special training and breathalysers. Of course more money needed from taxpayers to support services as well, just in case. Including to the ‘wider community’ say the Salvation Army. Really?

Just trying to be helpful here, unlike the virtue signallers and those who see potential for an addition to their gravy train.

  artemisia – as per the comments above about raw milk, it’s a bureaucrats wet dream. These people thrive on the opportunity to make regulations and rules, it’s what gives their lives meaning, and pays the bills. They aren’t going to let that go. Ever.
  
  In the UK they recently reduced the recommended weekly maximum standard drinks for men from 21 to 14. The same as women. The original numbers were based on a guess.

    Actually, it would just be simpler to have the driver accompanied by a police officer at all times. And as a bonus the delivery vehicle is less likely to be hijacked. How is that not a good thing.
    
    I do wonder how these folk with such good ideas think those ideas could be implemented in the real world. Though we do currently have a government specialising in unintended consequences so good free advice will be available.

  It explains a lot.
  If the health authorities do the right thing and carry out the much needed data analysis then we can get a definitive answer. I certainly won’t hold my breath, so many people are up to their necks in this public health disaster, they will fight tooth and nail to ensure their arses are covered.
  The truth will out eventually, the longer they fight it, the more damage done, the greater the punishment they deserve.

    One substacker I follow describes this injectable as a ‘slow kill bio weapon’. I treated that description with some scorn, but articles like this have made me more amenable to that suggestion. The linkage between IgG3 suppression and cardiac damage from repeated infections is very, very important. We desperately need leaders with the honesty to challenge the path we’re on.

        Paulus and blood people means some manager never got the close/open dates sorted for Labtest.
        Here is a beauty, this online stuff is shit. We wanted KFC for late lunch on Christmas day. Daughter has the app, orders with credit card, and pick up at Glenfield Mall. Really? The Mall was closed!
        In the end KFC on Oteha Valley road was open. I think Daughter has, or will make some noise. Nice chicken – enough for dinner as well. No price but it was Daughter’s Christmas gift to the Family.

    MCōs – some people actually really do care which is why they spend time researching the stuff that our “experts” and health officials refuse to. They don’t do it to for amusement or to come on here and post snide remarks. This isn’t a joke. If it transpires as it looks like it is currently, then we are currently living during either one of the worst crimes against humanity ever or the most colossal fuck up by politicians ever.
    Either way, those who are speaking out aren’t doing it for entertainment. Maybe try showing how wrong they are with evidence? Once the genuinely open and honest debate is permitted and we get to the truth, then we can talk about moving on.
    I’ve said before, I will be more than happy to be proven wrong. I’ll be ashamed and contrite and hope those who tried to convince me that I was wrong will forgive me for getting it wrong, and understand that my position wasn’t taken out of malice.
    I know I will do the same if it turns out we were right to be skeptical and questioning. For most, not all. There are many who know there is something wrong with this “vaccine” and the associated policies, but are too invested or too cowardly (or both) to speak up.   Then more hours carefully spent “researching” candidates standing for local elections, discovering that – gasp! – some of them held some views that might not have been mainstream. Imagine that – people who think for themselves and maybe don’t always go along with mainstream views. How shocking!!
  
  Stuff have really lost the plot, and far from “exposing” other people who have supposedly been sucked in by “conspiracy theories”, it looks like they’re the ones who are heading deep into ‘Reds under the bed’ -type paranoia and hysteria. They really need to step away from their keyboards, take a break from social media, and get out into the real world for a while, with real people.

    I do recall a report where a journo said a cop forced his photographer to delete the photos he/she had taken of the early morning , large and supposedly secret mobilisation of police prior to the attck on the parliament protesters.

  If Ardern had seen the first 50 or so protesters and invited a delegation of 10 to come into Parliament and express the groups views, when the rest arrived and called her out, those first arrivals would have had to tell them “She has been out, done that”
  
  But she didn’t do that – nor did a representative do it in her place.
  That may be why protesters stayed on and the tone of the gathering changed and ended up throwing paving stones at the police.
  So how much of that is on Ardern as any other factor?

Does anyone work at the Work and Income in Glenfield ? Could you please stop the alarm that’s been going since yesterday. I called ADT security which is the number on their building and they said it will require an employee to disable the alarm or contact ADT.
ADT can’t do anything. Good luck trying to find a keyholder.

Here is the thing: If it was on fire there would be immediate action. I am not saying torch it, just saying how useless Security can be.

    I wonder if there’s any way to differentiate these human-caused weather events from all the ones that occur naturally.
    I note that this ‘expert’ says these weather events _could_ become more common – I take that to mean they haven’t, which would jibe with all the many times I’ve read that weather isn’t becoming more extreme.
    
    I just had a wee read of some study about polar vertices- in the summary they had this to say…

Julie Ann Genter is calling on the Government to reduce public transport fares. She is calling on the Government to abolish the “very costly” fossil fuel subsidies in New Zealand.

What subsidies? Petrol is heavily taxed, with much of the revenue going to subsidise public transport.

It is like she lives in some parallel world.

A man is in critical condition after a stabbing at a popular beach spot in Taranaki.

Detective Senior Sergeant Byron Reid said the man was undergoing emergency surgery on Tuesday morning, and enquiries were underway to establish what happened at Waitara’s Marine Park.

A company called South Island Resource Recovery Limited has developed proposals for waste to energy energy plants on some former Canterbury landfills. A an obviously sensible idea if it is being privately financed. The impact assessment shows no adverse effects on air or water.

ECAN has rejected the application.

The proposal may have “unknown effects on mana whenua”.

“A site-specific Cultural Impact Assessment is required to be completed either by, or in close consultation with Te Rūnanga o Waihao. ”

When I was young environmentalists were the most knowledgeable either with deep science knowledge or direct on the land experience like a marital cousin who managed one of the early organic farms in North Canterbury. Now most environmentalists know bugger all about anything except what others have told them they should worry about.

Covid day 4. Feel a bit tired after 2 loads of washing, pruning a tree to fix tv reception, taking a toaster apart and a trip to Paihia to click/collect groceries. Only real symptoms are a sore throat and a bit more sweaty spells though it is very hot and humid today. Really a glorious summer day.

So far I’m a fan of the antivirals I dashed to Kawakawa to collect before Xmas shutdown on day 1. Wife and I are both 2 + 1 booster vaxed but she is not old enough to qualify for antivirals. She’s had a rather miserable time with a horrible cough. Likewise her unvaxed daughter. I had a fever the first night and muscle pains like them but I could feel the antivirals rolling back the infection. Day 2 I even mowed a lawn whereas they struggle even to climb stairs.

So, why on earth has our control freak Government and medical establishment done such a totally crap job of procuring and making antivirals available??

  post symptomatic antivirals are fairly ineffectual for covid, you don’t get symptoms until the viral load is nearing peak, where immune system has already ramped up into near-equilibrium with viral replication and slowing viral replication slightly at that point achieves little (maybe reduces length of convalescence slightly). Basically not worth the trouble in most cases.
  
  Taking antivirals all the time as a prophylactic measure (eg safe cheap ivermectin) is a better bet, as reduces rate of increase which in exponentials makes a big difference, giving more time for immune system to ramp up.

    My experience was taking them as soon as I got a +ve RAT test, the morning following a negative one. I could feel the infection advancing in and from the throat/nasal area and an hour or two after taking the first dose that eased off. The only side effect noticeable has been a bitter taste in the mouth. The drugs are nirmatrelvir and ritonavir.

  What ‘anti virals’ were you prescribed? If it was Remdesivir or Molnupiravir I STRONGLY recommend you do some independent* research on the efficacy and side-effects of these drugs.
  
  *By ‘independent’ I mean ignoring anything published by FDA or CDC. These organisations are captured by the pharmaceutical companies they are supposed to be protecting us from.

FBI got hold of Hunters laptop in Dec 2019 and I assume soon new it to be chock full of alarming indications of corrupt payments from Ukraine and China, yet Biden didn’t get nomination till June 2020.

Why did the FBI sit on their hands and then run interference and misinformation campaign over laptop for Biden? Did the FBI/intel community like the fact that they had kompromat on the future president – was that a viewed as a positive rather than a negative?

    I don’t know, but the facts as they stand don’t make much sense unless FBI has a nefarious and worse than partisan agenda – Their actions with twitter files demonstrate they knew what was on laptop as they ran interference pre-election. They had laptop 6 months before Biden won nomination, and could have (should have) spoken up to remove him from the running – he clearly wasn’t the best candidate in the Democrat field.
    
    So why did FBI leadership (or whoever pulls their strings) run interference for Biden with prima facie evidence of corruption in their hands prior to Primaries? It looks like more than just incompetence.

Stuff talks Woke …

St John Ambulance has been doing excellent service to New Zealanders since 1885. Most of us admire it, or even love it.

Stuff today in a news report of an accident calls it “Hato Hone St John”.

What a bastardised Pidgin name. “Hato” as the Maori word for “saint”, and “Hone” the Maori pronunciation of “John”.

According to the organisation itself, the Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem first came into being about 1070, when a hospice was established in Jerusalem by monks from a neighbouring Benedictine abbey to care for Christians making the long and dangerous pilgrimage to the Holy Land. That was probably before Maori first set foot in New Zealand.

By all means, when in the Maori language, use “Hato Hone”, but why inflict this borrowing from English back into English and shack it to the English-language name?

Stuff is going breakneck speed to Pidgin-ise English as spoken as NZ; breakneck speed before the ~~payola~~ subsidies from Ardern end.

    For example, the internet address used by the organisation is still “https://www.stjohn.org.nz”.
    That could have been changed, as there is no macron in “Hato Hone”.
    
    FFS, is anyone going to phone for a “waka tūroro” or a “waka harihari tūroro” rather than for an “ambulance”?
    
    It’s interesting that the leading online Maori dictionary still calls St John Ambulance “Kāhui o Hoani”.
    
    To be consistent, Stuff, instead of touting online for subscriptions and donations should ask for “ohaurunga” and “koha” or “takoha”.
    
    That would get them off the Government’s subsidy tit (joke).

        We’re used to red for danger, for warning, for “Here’s a fire engine, please make way”. Not sure if green does anything for a hurrying vehicle that needs others to give it road room. I don’t think the busy clutter of words and Maori symbols helps identification, either.
        
        Nek minnit, instead of a siren, there’ll be an electronically blasted haka, or at least a shell trumpet.
        
        The four-word, double-up, Woke name of St John Ambulance seems to have been cemented in three months ago.
        
        With increasing size; with difficulties of running an organisation on donations; and with Woke rust; maybe it’s now time for either: replacement by a new State organisation, or a split into local organisations, funded and run entirely locally.
        
        St John Ambulance has done superb work for New Zealanders. Perhaps it’s near time to say thank you very much indeed, and then move on.
