        There is so many of them unfortunately. The same types who support brainwashing children with climate hysteria, gender confusion and forcing a culture onto everyone interested or not at immense cost to the majority financially and in educational utility who must appease a small group of racists with no debate allowed. They take their fractional percentage of and ignore the rest of their makeup as the former affords one a cushy lifestyle on the backs of others hard work alongside their enablers. Inversion of the truth and pretending away the destructive outcomes of that seems to be a very appealing ideology the last decade or so to the foolish majority.
        
        Thankfully it self corrects eventually when reality starts to burn a hole in these assholes pockets and they start walking back to collect the change that’s left after having cash thrown at them like a bunch of whores happy to dance to whatever tune keeps those $ bills flowing. They won’t spend it wisely and they acquired it through subversion and manipulation. At least an actual whore doesn’t delude themselves or others nearly as much about what is taking place. Grant is an economic pimp and the lack of true criticism by the opposition leads me to believe they don’t truly understand what this dangerous and clueless narcissist can inflict in 6 years with a few exceptions I suppose.         As deeply as it pains me to agree with Mike, he is in fact correct on this subject. Abortion is not murder and never will be. Aborting a fetus is not murder for the same reason that turning off the life support of a brain dead person’s body isn’t.
        
        It is not murder because there is no sentient person inhabiting that biological entity in both cases. In a fetus, sentience will come later if it progresses but at under 20 weeks it is definitely not present yet. When the medics turn off the life support of someone brain-dead it isn’t murder because while the body has been living on, the person that once inhabited that body is already dead and gone.
        
        To place the needs and rights of a living breathing fully sentient woman behind those something that has no thoughts, beliefs, memories, fears or hopes is just cruelty – cruelty sanctioned by religious superstition and dogma as it so often is.
        
        Anyway Mike may be generally a pathetic lefty tosser, but this happens to one area where people of left are broadly right and many on the right are hopelessly wrong.

      If a human being were birthed, and immediately killed, it would be murder.
      
      If that same human being were killed a day before birth, most [Mod – no need for that] would still call that murder.
      
      What of a week before birth? Or a month?
      
      So the question becomes, at what point is that foetus determined to be a human being? The law says “when not viable outside the womb” at around 22 weeks.
      
      But that unviable foetus has a beating heart, eyes, arms and legs. So that nominated time of 22 weeks is just so that people like mikenmild can close their eyes and ignore reality.
      
      This isn’t too say I’m anti abortion. It’s to say just step up and own what you’re doing.

        Unfortunately our current abortion laws are worse than this. After 22 weeks one abortion doctor consults with another abortion doctor and if they agree it is clinically appropriate then abortion can take place. At any time up until birth. Abortion is out of the crimes act. So the unborn child is not a person under the law. They have no protection under the law.
        Let that sink in before you lecture us about “cruelty”.

        A sentient being has brain activity. A brain dead person does not. Unborn babies have brain activity from 6 days. Because they cannot yet express their thoughts, they have as much activity as a new born baby. So now, until a baby can prove it is sentient, it is not a human being and can be disposed of at will.

      If not, you get the debate dominated by idiotic pro-death arguments, such as two I saw at the March for Life in Wellington the other week.
      
      One pro-death protester had a sign saying: “Pregnancy can kill, but abortion saves lives”.
      
      Another said: “Don’t like abortion? That’s OK, don’t have one”

  I don’t have any official figures about the total number of abortions in New Zealand since 1977. I think family first would have that information? But based on a rough calculation of 13,000 abortions per year over 45 years equals 585,000 abortions since 1977. It may be that figure is a little conservative bearing in mind I do remember abortions peaking at about 18,000 during some years?
  However you calculate it, that’s around half a million New Zealanders that will never see the light of day.

    I have been following NZ politics for 6 decades. In that time I have concluded that as a group politicans cannot be trusted. The latest example is that Labour did not campaign on 3 Waters or He Puapua at the 2020 election even though they knew they were going to implement both.
    So they knowingly and deliberately deceived the voters. Now if they were a commercial entity the Commerce Commission would have come down on them like a ton of bricks.
    Now I know there will be the arguement that requiring pollies to include everything they plan on implementing in their manifesto will be met with ‘oh but what about events that occur subsquently”. Yes I agree but there should be a better process than we have now. Two of the basic principles of good governance are Disclosure and Transparency. These are expected in all types of organisation. As Government is the leading governance organisation it should setting the example and be above reproach if it wants to have any credibility and command any respect.
    For me Governments dont have any credibility or have my respect for the reason I have set out above.
    Does it matter. To them probably not but then that just sums up their collective dysfunctional mentality.

It’s just dawned on me, why it is commonplace for those in power (for example NZ politicians) to use the term ‘You Know’, when answering difficult questions.
It is easy to see that when providing a ‘truthful answer’, the term ‘You Know’ is never used, as opposed to a question that the politician either cannot answer truthfully, or does not know how to answer, the ‘You Know’ phrase is used a lot.

Robertson did this again this morning on News Talk ZB.

  A well known tactic used by police while questioning people is to watch their eyes. When asked a question, if the person looks up before answering they are lying, if they look down they are genuinely trying to recall information. When pressed with a hard question Jacindas eyes tend to go one way more often than the other.

  Two things. One is what those actually trained in the public speaking refer to as space fillers, similar to “Ums” and “aahs”, giving someone time to think about what they want to say. Especially used when people need to make up a lie. A good public speaker knows not to use them, if you need time to think, just be quite for a second.
  The other has an element of “I shouldn’t have to explain this to you, are you some sort of idiot?” It’s an attempt to make the interviewer look stupid, and allows the politician to give a glib, often meaningless answer on the basis that “you know, so why should I explain”.
  Among things like “hence why”, “literally” used for no reason, “let me put it to you this way”, and a myriad other meaningless things people throw into their speaking, “you know” has become one of the most common recently.
  I often break in with “No, I don’t know, please explain.”

I’d lose the arrogance when your discernment is lacking.       He actually offered a sensible solution, where each of the groups got a chance to open the meetings during the year according to their culture be it Christian, Maori, chicken, whatever. You know, true inclusive diverse culture with equal rights and respect like hilow thus country used to be 3 or 4 years ago.
      
      But no, that’s not good enough for the maoris. It’s their way or you are racist.
      
      They put the compulsory Maori method to a vote and it lost. I guess they just need more unelected maoris on the council with voting rights so we get the correct outcome.

    Constitutional monarchies are renown for their stabililty, and we have evolved a super-form: a constitutional monarchy with a shadow monarch.
    
    Who gives a rat’s arse that the current Governor-General comes from the NZ Royal Society, under her defenestrated of its Western scientific culture and rationale and Maorified?

      It’s ghost exists in English, but more so in non-Germanic languages such as French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian.
      
      English is the dominant lingua franca of the world, and Spanish, Portuguese, French are spoken by about a billion people (Spanish about 580 million, French about 270 million, and Portuguese 210 million). Latin’s heritage is big.

        In the Southern Hemisphere, Portuguese is spoken the most as a first language (Brazil, Angola and Mozambique) followed by Spanish (Chile, Argentina etc) and then English (mainly Oz and NZ).

      By the 9th or 10th century vulgar Latin was what was predominantly spoken by the hoi polloi and not written. So the romance languages emerged from them and with that the division between them and medieval Latin that had become the lingua franca of the elites of the Holy Roman empire.

        Latin was relatively common right up to the 19th. century – our medical and botanical terms & names are mainly latin, with a bit of greek.
        When William Wallace (Braveheart) was being hung drawn & quartered by King Edward Longshanks in the 13th, century, Wallace was praying the psalms – in Latin.

I don’t believe in a superior being, nor that inanimate objects have a spiritual force of their own, and while I respect other people’s right to hold those superstitions, I don’t see why I should feel morally or socially compelled to observe rituals derived from them.       How many English words have been given new Maori translations and meanings to form a new language called Te Reo? The answer of course is ‘countless’.
      Why didn’t New-Age Maori retain their original Maori language and insert English words (as spoken) when and where required eh?
      My guess is that it wouldn’t be devisive enough. Likewise, the re-writing of the ToW to suit a New-Age devisive and demanding culture.

        If you go into public service offices in Wellington, you will frequently find stickers on the dishwasher, fridge, photocopier, etc. These stickers will label the Maori words for each of the appliances that you find in an office. Yes Maori had dishwashers.
        
        Apparently there is a Government committee that decides on the translation of English words into Maori. I am serious. I predict they would be challenged if someone asked for the user manual for a gas turbine to be translated into Maori. Or the instructions for using an MRI machine in a hospital. In contrast such instructions could be perfectly translated into Mandarin, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish.
        
        If there are any fluent Maori speakers here, I would be happy to be corrected.

        Of course Maori had no dishwashers, microwaves and space rockets or a word for them. But, before they were invented neither had English.
        As I see it, the problem is not in inventing new Maori words, but in the artificiality of forcing this language, which a very few people speak on everyday basis, on predominantly English speaking population. If 2018 Census is to be believed, as much as 27.4 % of NZ population is overseas-born. If the main purpose of a language is communication, is it fair to force the language not spoken or even understood by the majority of Maori, let alone by the people of other ethnicities on all and sundry? Is it fair to expect an affinity with this language from the people recently arrived in this country for whom the familiarity with English might be a foreign concept? Methinks not…

  Cultures which are not self-critical are trapped in their old ways and cannot improve.
  
  The Western enchantment with the “noble savage” is both patronising and enslaving. Noble savage cultures are not expected to perform well and become trapped by the tyranny of low expectation. They are denied the criticism that helps improvement.
  
  Maori customs have their place in enriching society. So do quaint old European customs like Morris dancing, but they all need to be moderated.
  
  Perhaps a karakia, a bit of poi waving, and some Morris dancers etc should be present in a a few ceremonial sessions (eg. first council meeting of the year), but having them at every meeting is absurd.

  I need 4 surgeries. Rotor cuff and tendon repair, cubital tunnel both elbows (moving the ulnar nerve) I am very restricted, can’t pick up a box of beer, can’t hold a cup of tea in one hand.

Having returned to New Zealand after several decades overseas, I am astonished at the power of the New Zealand government to interfere in the lives of the average kiwi with little or no accountability.

In the last three months, I have come to realise that the educational system is a shambles, the economy is on life support, and the media (!) is full of self-important and pompous individuals.

Above all, everything is very expensive – the US, even in large cities, was much cheaper. It seems to me that it is difficult for many kiwis to survive, let alone prosper.

The people are nice, however, and that counts for much, especially for the kids.

She explained to me that you get ‘credit’ by the numbers of doors you knock on. It does not matter how many folk let you in. So some of them give up their jobs so they can door knock full time.

        I’ve drifted from atheism to agnosticism unswayed.
        
        Disregard for Jehovah’s Witnesses’ beliefs for me has been balanced by reading of their incarceration in Nazi concentration camps. The SS officers’ families made some of the women their family nannies.
        
        Also by reading Jacobo Timerman’s “Prisoner without a Name, Cell without a Number.”
        Timerman, an editor and publisher, was jailed and tortured for opposing the Argentine military’s “dirty war” against citizens. He praised the kindness and endurance of fellow prisoners who were Argentinian Jehovah’s Witnesses, jailed for their pacifism.
        
        Similarly, young Mormons far from home deserve some warmth, if not your conversion.

I was recently in discussion with some iwi members in Taranaki and I asked why the 3 waters had become 5 waters – I mean what is the 5 waters organisation going to do to improve the foreshore and offshore waters?
They explained that Lake Taupo is a major financial benefit to the owners of the lake bed – ie: fishing license income and (as they explained) any use “over, on or under” the surface.
They fully expect that within a few years anyone exploiting natural resources (which they say maori were promised ownership of in the treaty) on or in the foreshore or sea will have to pay for it – so going fishing will require a license……… which will cost of course.
Catching a fish, pulling up a few mussels, maybe even collecting material off the shore will all cost.

What a lovely thing this 5 waters mess will be.

    Robertson has just recommitted to it this week, due 2025, and Carmel Sepuloni also stated it was a priority or key focus or some such. Was an article on the Herald saying that this is not one of the items they are looking at shelving as part of re-prioritising next year. Good. Showing that even now they are still tone-deaf and focus on pissing money up the wall and reforms that even the swing voters didn’t want.
    In the meantime social housing, truancy, poverty, crime all trending worse (i.e. the types of thing many of their supporters in 2017 actually DO care about). I hope the election does go ahead with the prospect of people losing 1.39% of their take home pay for a scheme which only helps IF they lose their job AND aren’t reemployed.

  It’s why there is zero debate, they know they will be destroyed if they try. We are going to be continuously gaslit and lied to. They haven’t got the moral fortitude to admit they were wrong. My Doctor fits into that category. Wouldn’t respond to many polite questions, I finally got a phone call explaining how they understood my position but how “difficult” it was for them because they receive different advice from MoH and the government. I’m guessing it was a phone call so there is nothing on record.

  A few houses hereabouts sold for particularly high prices a couple of years back and the June 2021 cv for my property was such that my rates shot up 15%.
  In the interim the selling price has gone down about 15% according to Oneroof, maybe a lot more (or less).
  In my case, apart from the rates, because the house is freehold it’s all just numbers.
  In the case of someone who thought 2.5% mortgages were permanent and borrowed to the hilt, ain’t no political party going to help you now.
  But they could go to the bank and kick the manager in the nuts for giving them the mortgage. If they can find someone who’ll take responsibility.

  There is a lesson in there however, which is to keep your mouth shut or else be civil.
  It seems clear it blew up from one of the victims telling a member of the larger group to ‘fuck off’ even as they were parting ways.
  Well, you better be prepared to back up your mouth if you use it to inflame a situation.
  Nobody should get a beating and robbed, but you can’t say in this case it was 100% unprovoked.
  I had a very definitive unrestrained pitbull (maybe mastiff mix) rush me a couple weeks back while jogging across a nearby park, and pulled out a knife I carry for this purpose and stood my ground. The Polynesians on dirt bikes in the reserve came over and most were apologetic or wanting to diffuse this, but as I turned to continue on my way there was one wahine that starting getting a bit aggressive or indignant. I chose not to reply, or even respond, and carried on with my run.
  I am well aware that had I met like with like, or even tried to continue the conversation, it might turn bad. A with half a dozen of them and who knows how many whanau able to be summoned at short notice, there is something to be said for letting little things go.
  If you invite a street fight there is more than one unknown element, don’t discount the risk of serious injury or death for someone involved. i.e. avoid where possible, even if it means missing out on a super-witty verbal riposte like ‘fuck you’.

This is a good example of how the Government talks big on “net zero” emissions, but then loses its nerve when it becomes clear that the result will be huge rises in energy prices. The only way to achieve big reductions in emissions is to allow the price of New Zealand Units in the ETS to increase. The resulting increases in energy costs are an intended result, not a side effect.

  When I came to NZ in 1992, I arrived on a Permanent Residence Visa. I was a PR as soon as they stamped my passport.

  This mega splurging is common.
  
  During the EQ rebuild phase 10 years ago, “painters” were getting paid $50 an hour (+ a “management fee” of ??? for the supervisors) + travelling expenses.
  
  Qualification required: If you can hold a beer bottle you can hold a paint brush.
  And that was 10 years ago when $50 really was $50.
  
  One guy I spoke to was a painter with three years real experience (including training time at CPIT). He had three others in his crew and was also pulling in a few hundred $ a week just on transport expenses.
  
  I’ve forgotten how much he was earning, but it was about the same as I was at the time (as an experienced software engineer consulting to Apple).
  
  The mechanic from the local garage started a painting crew and main a relative fortune! I wouldn’t be surprised if a few students (or even school kids) took a sabbatical from their studies to swing a brush.

    Horrible thought, but the criminals are much smarter and more energetic than our dense and useless Labour ministers.
    They recognise the risk vs reward. Like ram raid became smash and grabs when they figured how easy it was to get away with it.
    Had this worked I expect some other quick-learners might chose to follow courier vans just to see if any leave the keys in the ignition.
    As you say, a good time of year for it.

I remember when

Doctor slammed for texting 600 patients misinformation:
“I cannot in conscience support Cocid vaccination of, particularly children, and pregnant and fertile women, from my assessment of current risks and benefits, best explained at http://www.nzdsos.com. All to make their own best decision.”

The Health and Disability Commsiioner found the doctor in breach of standards in place to protect the public by expressing his own, unbalanced opinions.
When I go to our local practice I may well get a locum or any one of the resident doctors.
I will receive what I have always thought was their own decision.
If it doesn’t result in a cure I don’t consider it an unbalanced decision.
Did this really warrant the HDC?

  For older people the vaccine was (even with unknown safety data) a reasonable bet for people in late middle age against the relatively dangerous (higher CFR) Delta strain. Omicron’s advent in late 2021 changed that, but that was after most older people had already been vaccinated.

The organiser of this week’s Kaipara karakia protest hikoi is petitioning Parliament to make the Māori tikanga feature mandatory for the more than 30 New Zealand councils with Māori electoral areas.

Dargaville district’s Paturiri Toatu has lodged a petition request with Parliament seeking karakia are made compulsory for the start and finish of council meetings in councils with Māori wards or constituencies.

Apparently, disallowing an opening and a closing karakia – which, by the way, Mr Toatu’s petition refers to as a prayer – disrespects Tikanga Māori, Māori culture, and directly contravenes The Treaty of Waitangi.

Mr Toatu said the compromise position – where a karakia could be used, as one option, by councillors on a rotating basis – “did not go far enough”. I have no idea exactly what that means, but I can only assume that Mr Toatu wants to have Maori customs and protocols observed exclusively, with absolutely no regard shown for any other faiths or beliefs. Tough luck if you’re a Christian (like me), Muslim, or indeed an atheist. Your beliefs apparently are no longer considered to be important or of any relevance in modern New Zealand.

I guess at least we now know where we stand.

A group of opposition party leaders in Fiji are calling for a halt to vote counting and an audit of the country’s electoral system.

This comes after provisional results, displayed on a Fiji Election Office app, showing a clear lead for the opposition People’s Alliance Party (PAP) over the ruling Fiji First Party were stopped due to an upload error that the electoral office said redistributed the allocation of votes displayed in the app.

The app was taken offline for several hours and then restarted in the early hours of Thursday morning showing an almost unassailable lead for the ruling Fiji First Party over all other parties.

No real surprises that the ruling junta could screw the scrum, although they rank better than ‘not free’ countries such as Rwanda, Russia or Vietnam. but still far from countries in the ‘free’ category, such as Nauru, Botswana, South Africa, the US, UK, NZ or Finland.

How utterly useless are Waka Idiots managing our roads. Resealing a passing lane on SH1 at Whakapara north of Whangarei Friday afternoon a week before Xmas. Traffic backed for kilometres as they single laned it with a traffic light. I got into the queue at 12:50pm. After 15 mins I passed the ute warning of queues ahead – about a kilometre after the queue tail. Finally got past the roadworks at 1:40. Waka Idiots finally put a delay warning on their website at 2:10. It was still there when I got home at 5pm. Took a detour on the way home to miss it all. If the morons had to do this today why on earth not keep two lanes open and seal one lane at a time. And if you insist on being idiots why not put up warnings in a timely way on your website. Screw them all.

  I’ve been reading up on myocarditis and exertion-released adrenaline. Nasty, nasty combo that increases the risk of atrial fibrillation. Testosterone seem to exacerbate this further. I have a 30s son and son-in-law. Both vaxxed, one boosted. Both exercise, run half marathons etc. Keeps me awake at night. I’d like them to get cardiac MRIs, because the raw risk is directly related to the level of any sub-clinical myocarditis.

    I looked up a Maori dictionary online to find the meaning of “Kirikiriroa”.
    
    It translated this as “Hamilton”. It translated “kirikiri” as gravel and “roa” as long, tall, slow. So “Kirikiriroa” perhaps “big gravel pit”.
    
    No problem with dual-language names, as long as Maori versions are used within Maori language and English versions are used within English.
    
    Surely that’s the point of having dual languages.
    
    Otherwise you have what is happening in NZ at present, the State-controlled Woke media bastardising English into an NZ Aotearoa Pidgin.
