New CEO of LGWM Sarah Gardner prioritises active modes of transport. I don’t usually comment on physical appearance, but I’m willing to bet a servo pie that she does not walk or cycle regularly, two modes she will be forcing on the rest of us.

I also note that she’s left Otago Regional Council while it’s under investigation for disputes between the Executive and Elected Members; and she’s not from Wellington so will be unfamiliar with the depth of unhappiness among ratepayers with its bias and incompetence.

All in all I struggle to see how she can have been the best candidate for the job; the mind boggles as to how bad the unsuccessful applicants must have been.

  Yesterday in wellington I saw a sign for a carpark which used the maori name for carpark, with a tiny English word under it. Didn’t realise the maoris had cars in the early 1800s. Maybe they are the chosen ones after all.

    Back in the 1960’s – !!!!! there was a bike shop in Kilbirnie which some of you will know is flat, and has easy cycling access to the city via the Bays. One of the senior employees lived in Johnsonville, which at that time was a long way from the city – especially if you, as he did, cycled in to work every day, and home at night, up the Ngauranga Gorge road.
    He was a legend in cycling circles.

  To be fair though, Bolly, any organisation of which Michael Laws is a member / involved in, will be a hopelessly dysfunctional, nightmarish place for anyone else, either elected to it, or employed by it, to be a part of.

    She made a couple of conduct complaints against Michael Laws and and as far as I remember they were not upheld. I would class Michael’s actions on those occasions as holding to account and not troublemaking. Reminds me of the secret Rabbits Society (comprising senior Wellington City Council staff) years ago.   Sarah Gardiner – just about the standard bearer for the incompetence and narcissism of the professional managerial class in NZ. She was useless before she got to CEO level and useless at that level. The contempt she showed for democracy at Otago RC was risible. Her appointment at LGWM shows how infected the bureaucracy has become with disciples to “the narrative”. Competence is so old hat these days…

Does Jacinda Ardern like the sound of her own voice because she keeps on repeating her fantasy of all the things they have done and the supposed success they have apparently had in her mind that many would dispute like the New Health System, Housing , Poverty, Employment and many others which is total bullshit, misinformation and lies without anyone from our media standing up and calling her out on her blatant misleading of the facts.

  The only thing these fools know is dolling out money, if she hands more out it will be taken by everyone, but it will not make a scrap of difference in her diminishing support.
  I would not put it passed her to pay a portion of peoples groceries, she doesn’t have a clue that costs on business, rental owners, on the public at large is creating much of the inflation .

    Suggest the new cost of living handout will be one or more of these, systems already set up:
    – extend the fuel excise tax / half price bus fares
    – bump up working for families / accommodation supplement, both already targeted based on family size, income, rent
    – another 3 or 6 months of the monthly handout, though the government won’t want to end that too close to the election so maybe 12 months would do the job.
    
    There are still a few net taxpayers left, and the mostly bare borrowing cupboard still has a few options, all good then.

        I think it will get extended. At the moment if the additional 25c went back on gas would go back to more than $3 per litre in Auckland.

Tuku Morgan to head Three Waters iwi body for Auckland and Northland
Waikato-Tainui’s Tukoroirangi Morgan has been appointed to lead the northern Three Waters iwi body.
And he has already warned that Auckland taking more and more water from the Waikato River is not sustainable.
Morgan, chair of the iwi’s Te Arataura tribal executive, said in a statement: “While it is easy and convenient for Auckland Council and Watercare to keep increasing the water take from our awa tupuna [apparently – “My Ancestor the River”] to supply water to Taamaki Makaurau, it is not sustainable.”
The statement said Morgan had been appointed chairperson to the entity A iwi regional representative group under the Three Waters reforms.

So is Waikato-Tainui’s Tukoroirangi Morgan more interested in infrastructure and pipes or what flows through them?

And since water is controlled by Taumata Arowai, the Water Regulator, and that is controlled by a Maori Advisory Council chaired by Pipa Mahuta, and both Mahuta and Moran and colleagues are able to issue “Te Mana O Wai” statements or edicts, will so-called “co-governance'” indeed be simply actual “governance”?

And how does Ardern’s Labour Government not just define that, but explain it?

I understand Luxon may effect tax cuts by moving tax cut-in bands or brackets, which mean tax relief at a lower levels and of course related relief at the upper level of the band, so more – and seemingly more of more – to “the rich” as well.
So, why not move the lower level of the band but maintain the upper level at the status quo. until the effect is measured?
That would surely screw-up Robertson’s obsession.

  Because they have said from day one that they will scrap every added tax by Labour, they are true to their word, I remember at the time Robertsons envy tax was only going to bring in half a billion dollars, and Labours moan is Liz Luxon ffs, anyone needs a girls name it is blowhard Robertson, the wasted billions will easily gobble up that half a billion

  If I was Luxon I would do as you suggest Yvette, as most of the higher earners understand the economics that is needed to get rid of this Labour government.
  Move the lower tax thresholds, hold the upper levels, and then show cost savings in removing Labour’s wasteful spending – Then watch Ardern and Robertson grasp for thin air.

  Cindy and the medias attention on Luxon shows both are worried. They both know he and the Nats plus ACT have so many targets to aim for.
  
  Cost of living, Housing, 3 Waters, He Puapau, Hate Speech, Crime, Maorification the list goes on and on.
  
  Talk about being spoilt for choice. The Nats have to set out that they will dismantle Maorification and the laws and regulations around it, promote free speech and democracy, get tough on criminals and set out policies that will get the economy kick started.

    I was not going to say anything more that that I have done, but let me explain from a geriatric my position re National and Luxon.
    He appears to be a nice guy and personally honest – not always good for a Politician, but let me be blunt
    I will vote for the National Party, not a Dressed up noisey dollybird.
    There are many good and intelligent current MPs, with many to follow in October, and it will be up to the Party who leads Team National.
    Irrespective of the media dollies flavour of Luxon – paid for, I will still vote National and not just for its Leader.

  Anyone who knows anything about the legislative process knows you can’t wind back the clock with one piece of legislation. You have to do each piece independently. In part this is because of the subsidiary clauses in all legislation telling what other bits affected. There is also what to do with the new entities.
  But basically, it can’t be done.

    As someone that does, I’d just say it is very easy. Consequential amendments get repealed as a package, just as they were passed, and the entities all disappear. Might need to include a few months for the old team to get going again, but really no problem.
    
    Take the Canterbury Regional Council (Ngāi Tahu Representation) Act 2022, repeal it and the right for TRoNT to appoint two members goes. Just need a transitional provision that deals with the incumbent appointees.

    I would have thought the reasons why National opposes a referendum are pretty obvious.
    The Treaty deals with rights that primarily accrue to people who are a minority. A referendum works purely on what the majority wants.
    So Treaty issues involve negotiation and goodwill between the minority and the majority, not by the majority simply deciding what is to be done through a device like a referendum.
    Yes, at times there is an over reach, as with Three Waters. But I personally don’t see the Maori Health Authority as an overreach. In some shape or form, the MHA will continue.

        Given the Treaty was only a ‘simple nullity’ way back in the day (Chief Justice Prendergast’s description in the mid 1800’s) why are we evening mentioning it? It should have been filed away long ago. There are no Maori today, only people with some Maori ancestry and in most cases more ‘other’ ancestry. It’s long overdue for us all to be treated the same with no special treatment based on race. To keep on teasing things from the Treaty which were never there is foisting a huge injustice upon the rest of us. We need a Government with the backbone to do what’s right, and doing or saying anything with regard to the Treaty today is fraudulent big time. We MUST vote for a Government with the spine to do the right things for all of us.

      You are right. There were (and are) a substantial number of National MP’s who would have similar views to myself.
      ….
      My prediction, there will be a substantial empowering of iwi in education, heath, housing supply and social policy in the next few years. National will go along with most of this once they are back in government, just as they have done so since 1990.
      
      In that sense Don Brash was a bit of an aberration, one that National is not keen on repeating.

        To be fair to Mr Mapp, many of my past utterances probably wouldn’t withstand much scrutiny either, but fortunately no one is likely to check them, and WRT to the National Party he has inside experience I don’t have.
        
        However, co-governance, Maorification and separatist policies of the current government are such a basic assault on democracy, accountability, and economic efficiency, can potentially alienate both the majority population and even many who identify as Maori, and rest on such tendentious interpretations of the TOW, that their reversal or severe attenuation is perhaps more probable than he allows.

      @Wayne Mapp, in an “ideal” world with infinite resources ie money and skilled people you could establish a tailored health service for each individual race in New Zealand, would you want to, probably not. In today’s situation where we don’t have enough resources to support a health service for the current population of New Zealand as a single group why would you split the limited current resources available to support New Zealanders on the basis of race. The contra to this “division is good” argument is the Three Waters claim that pulling everything into a single central point of management is good.

      The current government is not facilitating such negotiation. It is imposing the will of a small group of Maori activists in its caucus.
      
      More importantly, I would argue that we are in this mess because of a perverted interpretation of the Treaty. That is why ACT wants a referendum to enshrine democracy in New Zealand.
      
      As DPF has commented, the “Treaty” is being employed to end universal suffrage in New Zealand. So enough is enough. The referendum proposed by Seymour is essential. You are suggesting that the alternative is negotiation based on “goodwill” 🙄. That is naive. We are on a path to ethnic tension and probably violence.
      
      And of course the Maori Health Authority is “over reach” 😳. It will not improve Maori health outcomes. If for no other reason that nothing this government designs achieves anything beneficial.

        The goodwill has to go both ways. The reason I think Three Waters is an overreach is the 50% co governance. The Labour Maori caucus is going too far.
        You and I will have to differ on the Maori Health Authority. I believe it will have better reach into Maori community better than the current systems. Obviously the MHA is not a total replacement for all health issues but it will be particularly relevant in primary health care.

        While recogising that culturally appropriate outreach for provision of care is important somehow I see a MHA as a way for inept virtue signaling woke wets to shovel vast amounts of taxpayer money down the throats of corrupt cronies while health outcomes continue to get worse for the supposedly targeted population.
        And effective grass roots organisations like Mike King’s are unpersoned as they realise that: a. The government doesn’t give a damn after all for real people, and b. They will treat you like shit if you protest about it.

        Wayne you are confusing diversity of service delivery (even ACT likes that as I recall, eg charter schools) and separate services funded/selected purely on a race/ethnicity basis.

        Wayne – there is big problems ahead for a stand alone MHA. Take places where Maori make up a sizeable Maori population like Te Kuiti, Turangi, Wairoa – (though many probably aren’t n the Maori rolls so don’t count;-)). Those towns often have maybe only one or two GP practices. How will the MHA cater for Maori there?
        The theory might sound good, but invariably, it falls down in even basic details?

        Shane Reti has said the MHA will be folded into the overall Health Authority, but will still exist. I presume a bit like Whanau Ora.
        To my mind that is a bit of a detail.
        I would note that when my wife was a member of the Northern Regional Health Authority in the 1990’s, she and Rob Cooper established (that is set aside the funding) the various Maori and Marae based PHO’s in the North. These are now quite widespread throughout NZ, and are generally known as He Puna Hauora.
        In answer to JimBobJoe, Maori specific health initiatives and providers have been around for 30 years. A bit like Kura Kaupapa schools.

      Explain to me Mr Mapp, how members of my extended family (Blood relatives not in-laws) can be divided for health, welfare and education provision from the State because some of them have Maori bloodlines (a great Grand-parent) but the rest don’t.

      The push for this segregationist agenda has been based on a fact base that some 20 odd percent of those with Maori bloodlines are over represented in negative stats in health, education, welfare. But that ignores the vast majority of Maori are doing just fine in the modern world. its being used as a smokescreen
      
      The real agenda being pushed by the Mahuta’s and Morgans and Jacksons is very easy to identify: Its feudal power and having that power in the hands of traditional Maori Rangatira families…
      
      If this feudal power structure is allowed to establish itself, then for all non-Maori in NZ this means we would exist in NZ by some supposed Rangatiras grace.
      
      Well eff that. Enough already and an open message to Luxon, Willis, Bishop:
      
      Roll it back, roll it back as soon as possible – all of it. Clean out the Public Service of this racial cancer.
      
      Because if you dont every European, Indian, Chinese person who dies because they were shunted down medical wait lists because a Maori or Pacific person person presented with the same medical condition after them – well their deaths will be on your hands.

    One of my fundamental values is that people should be treated as individuals, not as an example or a representative of a group… be that race, sexual orientation, gender, etc.
    
    All NZers have the right to make their own decisions, vote for what they want, and rise and fall based on their own merits.
    
    We have a compassionate society that is happy to help those who are disadvantaged by physical or mental conditions that hold them back. And we come together to rally in support when some kind of disaster occurs.
    
    I don’t think that being born with any particular ethnicity give you inherent advantages or disadvantages. I do think your family environment has a huge impact on your later success in life, and your ability to take advantage of the wonderful opportunities you have as a NZer.
    
    So having said all that… no, race should never be the determining reason someone gets an advantage or an ability to make decisions that impact others.
    
    Governments and governing bodies should be race-blind.
    
    If our government wants to improve the lot of future generations, then help at the individual and family level. If Maori organisations put their effort into that level of care instead of trying to create co-governance then they would make the difference that they say they want to make.
    
    The path we are on now is a disaster.

Yesterday the Herald went big on ” a major series The New New Zealand ; Rebuilding Better .”

There’ll be poll results , yesterday we’re told our major concern was cost ofliving 56% , but climate change concern came in as second at 12 % .

The Herald announced ” The series will examine issues including the economy, health & socila division, through the lenses of equity and climate to ensure our plans for the future are sustainable and support all Kiwis”.

So they’ve announced a clear far left bias .

How can any of it be trusted .

I’m suspicious of its timing too , coming as it does just before Labour’s conference and featuring the PM so heavily .

Today’s paper features a big photo of her , as part of the series, saying she’d spend big on early childhood education ,if she had the blank cheque . No photo of Luxon .

This is manipulation of the highest order .

Labour continue their path of breaking things, this time with TVNZ that until now has been making a profit and paying a dividend back to the government.

The Government’s new public media entity will witness the loss of a third of TVNZ’s existing commercial revenue, equating to about $100 million a year, within five years, according to advice from officials.

This lost revenue will need to be supplemented by taxpayer funding from the Crown, which is forecast to contribute $211m a year to the entity over 30 years, roughly half of which will be used to plug the shortfall in advertising.

Went to movies yesterday evening with wife. Hadn’t been to a movie theatre in 10 years. Sat down, 30 people in audience, more than I expected for sat evening. Watched pre-movie adverts. Advert number two and number four were in Maori with NO subtitles. The entire audience were being gaslit by whoever the group was who put the adverts on. We all had to endure two long adverts no one understood. What the hell is the point of that? We need to stop Robertson and Orr printing money and handing it out to these groups. If the money supply dried up to these groups we wouldn’t have to be subject to this nonsense. No one would waste their own money on advertising if the consumer didn’t understood what they were on about. In total there was 20 minutes of pre-movie adverts. The movie was Mrs Harris goes to Paris. Slow first 30 minutes, then very light feel good story. Suffice to say if I have to go to movies again, I would arrive 15-20 minutes after they say the movie starts in order to miss awful adverts.

What a ridiculous proposition! Everyone knows we don’t have unlimited money; in fact we have billions of dollars of debt, which is rising fast. We’re $144 BILLION in the hole, and that’s rising at a rate of $3.5 million per hour or $86 million per day.

Check the NZ Debt Clock, and note the speed at which those numbers are spinning;. it’s bloody frightening!

FFS watching Campbell interview Ardern this morning is so god damn frustrating. So many issues he could nail her on and he just gives her a free ride. Nothing about emergency accomodation, nothing about ram raiders, nothing about the massive wastage on money on things like tvnz/rnz merger. Our media really do this country no favours.

Even if he supports the left, surely even he should he highly pissed off with how Labour are going.         In the media we’re talking about here, their job is to report the news, not be the news or any part of it and IMO John Campbell forgot that principle years ago.

      During his term in Parliament [Tukoroirangi Morgan] was involved in a number of controversies. One scandal in 1997 revolved around his spending NZ$4000 of Aotearoa Television funds on clothes including a pair of $89 underpants.
      
      How many people don’t have access to safe drinking water? If there are some,deal with that problem.

We sit around always talking about this Labour Government being out of their depth and dividing New Zealander’s with their racial policy without giving credit to the majority of voters that they will do the right thing on Election day and vote this Labour Government out.
This is different to Covid-19 and why many older people voted Labour endorsing Jacinda Ardern as their wanted Prime Minister but you have to remember a lot of water has run under our bridges since then with plenty of lies showing our Prime Minister is not indispensable and not trusted like she was before the last election.
You can’t have the public abused and called the river of filth without consequences and you can’t use fund out of the Covid-19 fund set up to combat the Pandemic because you need to bribe the public to vote for you , you also can’t defer sick people away from hospitals A&E because you haven’t staffed your Hospitals around New Zealand that are badly needing staff and the Minister Andrew Little believes it his way or no way.
Jacinda Ardern and Grant Robertson are not to be trusted because many of the problems we face today are because their catch phrase’s of nine years of neglect and woefully underfunded with these sayings still being used today for excuse’s for these departments inept performances.
The polls have been against Labour and their Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern for a couple of months now so have faith that the Prime Minister ‘s buying of the media to sway the publics opinion will finally catch up and the voter will say enough is enough and vote a National- Act Coalition to do the job.

On Wednesday the Blackcaps are up against probably SouthAfrica for a spot in the final of T20 World Cup on Sunday at waterlogged Melbourne.

  What a bollocks announcement. It’s a drop in the bucket unless you are one of the families that just sneaks in and didn’t get anything before but you now get 250 bucks for child care.
  
  The whole package adds up to bugger all, and completely ignores the retired folk that cannot really do anything to increase their income, so they will continue to be punished by inflation. So I suspect this is a vote loser and more of the retired fold will drift to National and New Zealand first.
  
  It’s a pretty sad state of affairs when a family income of 140k is not enough to support a family with two kids. If I was in that position and getting handouts, frankly I would be embarrassed.

Firstly, she need not worry. I doubt the oil companies are going to come running back. The time horizons for pay back are too long.

However that aside, does she really believe that New Zealand is going to ‘stop using gas’? (Or that the world will stop using gas?) If we do not have gas in Taranaki we will need to import it from Australia.

In summary, on the most likely scenario, the world, and New Zealand will be using MORE gas in 2030 than we do today? What does JAG suggest? We switch off all gas supply to the hospitality sector?   Due to the rush for unreliable renewables, having gas as a fuel source at least domestically would be the smart move.
  
  It would reduce demand on the electricity supply, holds it’s potential energy when not being used (as opposed to the national grid), and is effective at its core domestic roles, cooking and heating.

Going back to evil horseracing a moment, did you note that a horse named for All Blacks No. 10 Richie Mo’unga ran second at Flemington yesterday and took its total earnings to $A 2,825.790.

Richie Mo’unga himself was gifted a 10% share in the horse before it had its first start and, very nobly, donates all of his cut of the earnings to the Child Cancer Foundation in New Zealand.

  In one way she just does not get it. For both parents to work Jaspinda wants more childcare subsidies. The other way is for one parent to stay home with the children, meaning less money, and more likely to vote for false promises of free shit.

If the Labour Party is the one that gets the shivers down their spine tonight because of the Latest Reid Research Poll , you can guarantee that it will not take long for the infighting to take hold with many of their current MP’S wondering how long it will be before they know who will lose their jobs.
The other thing that they will be worried about the Prime Minister’s mood swings and how unpleasant that could be leading up to the 2023 General Election.
The writing has been on the wall for several months and I can’t wait to see the face of Jacinda Ardern if the chat is right.

  I disagree though that these numbers are because of the cost of living, I think it is the shit storm that labour has created is starting to be felt, from health, to 3 waters, to crime, cost of living, etc etc.
