Many have said that Jacinda Ardern is the best Prime Minister New Zealand has had and the Labour Party Machine keep on trying to tell the population just that, but really being kind and caring doesn’t make you invincible and maybe the voter is starting to see that and there is more to being a Leader than that.
Just another example of our Prime Minister’s stupidity of being kind and caring is the millions of taxpayers dollars she gave the Mongrel Mob saying they have changed and they will educate there members of the harmful affects of drugs but does a leopard change its spots I don’t believe so. So the headlines in this morning paper proves my point with “Inside Police Investigation which exposed Mongrel Mob members drug charade.”
Then you have Co Governance , Three Waters, separate Health Ministries and many other policy by stealth that this Government and Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern want to pass into law.
Our Prime Minister is a supposed nerd on Shackleton we learned when she set out to Antarctica last week we were told, but you would have to say she is also a big fan on Communism looking at the policy’s she wants to pass without listening to the majority that don’t want a bar of them.
Then comes the news the Prime Minister’s Electoral Office had broken into and damaged which I don’t condone with the statement from the Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern that it is happiness frequently in Politics and it needs to stop, but isn’t this the same things that are happing to small business around New Zealand with some being hit several time and our Prime Minister and Police Commissioner use the feeble smack with a wet bus ticketand send them on there way with no consequences Anda invitation to do it again.
So while our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern might be kind and caring she has also brought policy that is dividing New Zealander’s because of her selfishness to be liked.

  Ardern is not and never was “kind and caring.” The title of her book, “Leading with Empathy” is a sick joke. She is a fraud and a fake and that is becoming obvious to more and more people.

    Just look at her vile attack on the KFC school girl when calling her a liar on the 6 O’Clock news. The MOH stated publicly the girl was correct, but the vulgar pm went there, the PM lost a lot of support over that, I am surprised at how many people have gone off the pm just over the attack on the KFC worker

    Ardern is naïve – in fact, extremely so. Her response to every economic and social problem is the same: Spend more money.
    
    However, the last Government under Key and English showed that spending more money is not the right approach.
    
    I recently saw Labour propaganda stating that the Health Budget has been increased 40% in real terms since 2017. Despite all the money there are worse outcomes in healthcare and chronic labour shortages.
    
    A more nuanced approach would reveal that the problems in our Health Sector are not solely related to money, but a lack of leadership and focus on outcomes.

      We’ve all observed those people who set up hobby businesses on daddy’s money that lacked a credible business strategy. This approach usually leads to total loss of daddy’s investment, but only when daddy calls time on the hopeful offspring’s line of credit.
      
      This is Ardern’s approach, keep spending until things improve. Meanwhile Robbo is taxing the hell out of us all just to pay the bills.

    Dead right. “Be kind” was a cruel; media narrative, designed to make the PM look caring and compassionate. However she stood by whilst families were separated, whilst husbands had to watch their wives being buried from across the road, and whilst people lost their jobs, many because they were not prepared to take a vaccination. She hasn’t visited a single dairy or liquor store owner who has been ram-raided or a victim of the drive-by shooting, yet she gave $2.75m to a life member of the Mongrel Mob for a drug rehab programme which has never provided any credible evidence of its success.

    Agreed Clan, a very succinct assessment. Judging Ardern by her recent UN speech, she presents as someone who demands control of her chosen narrative, any dissent needs to be erased.

  Logic impasse there Warren. The comment about the electoral office in no way supports ram raids. So too education on the effects of drugs doesn’t support clandestine drug dealing.     Many European Greens support nuclear power as a green option and advocate for it. Not the case here in NZ but it should be looked at more closely along with GM.   A decade of extremely expensive political initiatives and policies sees non-hydro renewables (wind and solar) now up to a few percent of global energy consumption, similar to nuclear that has had almost no western investment for decades. It would take many many decades to replace oil with PV, and we may not have the mineral reserves needed. Nuclear could be scaled much faster and cheaper.

    I read a story the other day that said we have ‘invested’ around ~$4Tn in ruinables so far, and the share of energy produced by FF has dropped a massive 1%. It may not be as much as that after Europe get around to firing up their coal stations again.
    I would assume that it was the easy 1% we removed, so the cost of going 100% ruinable would be truly magnificent.

  I have only read the abstract of the paper. It states that the negative efficacy applies to the AstraZeneca vaccine. For the Pfizer vaccine the study concludes that the vaccine is effective at preventing hospitalisations and deaths up to the end of the study at day 98.
  
  Am I reading that correctly? Even so, the conclusion that any of the vaccines actually increases the likelihood of hospitalisations and death from Covid is disturbing.

    I have not yet read the full paper, but this analysis caught my eye. Note the observation:
    
    This new peer-reviewed study shows how the first dose of both the Astra Zeneca and Pfizer vaccines initially provides some protection, but after 60-70 days, the risk of serious illness and death is higher than for the unvaccinated. For Astra Zeneca, the second dose further increases this difference, while Pfizer narrows it slightly; the comparison is positive compared to those who received the first dose, but still negative compared to the unvaccinated.
    Those results mark a turning point. It has already been clearly demonstrated how the vaccines increase the risk of infection. However, it is still firmly claimed that they provide safe protection against serious illness and death. But now that last straw is gone: Whichever standard we go by, the vaccines are not only useless; they are worse than nothing.

    The Paper states that the 2nd shot of the Pfizer Vaccine affords protection against hospitalizations and death for at least 98 days, but there seems to be an upward trend in the graph… hinting that the efficacy is beginning to wane.
    
    What the paper doesn’t disclose is the gap between vax 1 and vax 2 that was employed in this study.
    
    The first Pfizer vax seems to afford protection for 70 days.
    
    NZ varied the recommended time between vax1 and vax2 when they introduced work-place mandates.
    
    I only had a 3 weeks gap between Vax 1 & 2.

    What is clear and obvious is that there are clearly beyond ample alarming warning signs that these things not only don’t work, but they are dangerous. At the very least the jabbing programme should be suspended instantly while serious reviews are undertaken.

  Read the actual paper for yourselves. Don’t rely on whack-jobs and nutters to interpret and twist it for you.

    They fail to discuss the possibility that the vaccines compromised the health of those who ended up in hospital or died.

    Everyone I know who didn’t have the vax made that decision bc they were not scared of catching covid. So they didn’t change their behaviour significantly or start hiding at home. Whereas those that had the vax presumably were concerned.

  I think it will take a while for the dust to settle on the data. But the bottom, inescapable, line is that the mandates were stupid. When people make their own decisions, they cope with poor outcomes better. Noting it is reasonable to expect vaccines will be benign, many of us had no choice if we needed to keep working.   From the moment the first “anon” claimed to go to cafes to eavesdrop on conversations and continued to persevere with the claim it was on 3 boards as the reason for having to hide its identity its thin ice of credibility was broken. That person couldn’t speak publicly it needed to hide in order to mock others, it couldn’t front a meeting arguing its case, it couldn’t take a political or public health position to speak out from. All they could do was hide and accuse others of being conned.

    I admit, if I was a double killer with an extensive criminal history and a reputation so low it would be difficult to imagine it going any lower, I’d probably be less concerned about posting under my own name too. I’d literally have nothing to lose.
    
    Thankfully, that’s not the situation for me or (I assume) the vast majority of Kiwibloggers, but there are very good reasons why we may wish to keep our identity hidden from people with a track record of murder and nothing left to lose. I’m sure you understand.

  As I read the article the Pfiza vaccine comes out harmless but useless so long as the second dose is taken but the AstraZeneca vaccine is net harmful.
  
  The argument that vaxed people took more risks would surely be testable by comparing the rates of hospitalisation or death per infection.

    I know as a back country hunter there are many people doing things now they would have never dreamed of 20 years ago but now they have electronics to hopefully get them out of the shit if it goes badly.

  Political violence has been happening in New Zealand society for many years, it has been directed against politicians on all sides of the political spectrum, and for Mr Jackson to suggest that this is some sort of new and frightening era of political violence spurred on by whacko conspiracy theories is just utter nonsense. 10 minutes on Google would show him that.

I did. Be warned. It is about 15 pages of questions with about ten thousand words of explanation per page. Phrases like “inclusive, collaborative, social cohesion” and sentences in Te Reo make it circular and repetitive. It’s a wet day, have some fun.

Far be it for me to tell you how to respond but here are some guidelines;
1. I self identified as Maori. Better chance for my submission to be noticed.
2. I ticked every box “strongly oppose”
3. Phrases like “this is apartheid, I don’t understand what you mean, why would a pagan religion be relevant and bullshit” may be helpful.

  Aren’t all religions a form of “paganism”?It is not as if any religion can actually prove the existence of God. As all of them state, they are based on belief.
  We are of the view that monotheistic religions are superior, but why? Presumably on the basis that they require individual reflection of one’s own ethics.
  We generally regard the Greeks and Roman’s as quite sophisticated, but their religions were based on the belief of a pantheon of gods who could have children with human beings.

    Also interesting point about Greek gods. My theory is that the ancient Greeks had a strong belief in the value of the individual and the ability of the individual to act on the world. This is why they invented democracy.
    
    This would also have been associated with their view of their gods as flawed. More submissive, collective societies view their gods as all powerful.

        Evolution requires belief in a hypothesis and a theory which advocates that something came out of nothing. That the universe didn’t exist then did somehow. That life came out of non-life.
        
        It is a theory, science is simply testing things that can be observed and repeated to test a hypothesis. Evolution ( in particular Macro evolution) is not repeatable so is difficult to prove or disprove. It then becomes a matter of believing it or not. If you believe evolution you can become religious about it, to the point of discrediting all other possibilities including supernatural. This is then a humanistic religion.

        1. What we observe is that mutations die etc, not lead to better things. (eg they result in miscarriages & Downs Syndrome, not in a new super species.)
        2. The fossil record does not back up evolution. Evolution is basically a lot of trial & error resulting in eventually a “good” result. If you’ve ever watched a cook trying to come up with a new recipe you’ll notice that there are lots of wrong dishes produced, until the right one is found. If evolution is true, we should see lots of “wrong” (& intermediate) creatures – but we don’t. Instead, we see only fully functioning animals (eg eyes which work & birds with complete egg laying physiology).

  The part that really made me sit up was the final bit you had to “understand”.
  
  “By ticking this box, I understand that my submission will be moderated by the Review into the Future for Local Government and information that does not meet the moderation requirements will be redacted.”
  
  In other words, if we don’t like what you say we will bin it and take no notice.

Top headline in the Telegraph today. “The Disastrous Legacy Left by the Pandemic as Excess Deaths Overtake Covid Deaths.”

At last, the world is starting to wake up to the fact that a total focus on Covid to the detriment of all other diseases, would eventually lead to excess deaths from the likes of cancer, heart disease, diabetes etc as these diseases were not treated during Covid.

It is sad to see that our MSM is of such poor quality (or just bought off) that it is unable to understand what should be pointed out to the NZ population.

Some of those measures were known beforehand to either not work or to be counterproductive. The WHO guides countries as to what to include in pandemic plans and as such they are all very similar.

    They recently stated that we had lower deaths than most counties over the 3 years this clown show has been going on. That is the worst form of lying by omission.

Apparently for non iwi/hapu people the core public servants/council staff can make decisions for us based on best practice and government policy (agree or disagree with the policy).     I think the way to achieve this will be publishing morbidity as well as mortality. Newer cars protect against death, but mean that people end up surviving with horrific injuries – months in hospital, lives changed forever.         I didn’t intend to suggest that older cars were worse – that’s a different discussion:) All i am I saying is that newer cars have safety features that allow people to survive accidents that would previously have killed them. However that survival often comes at significant cost – personal and financial – and that needs to be figured into our road stats in order for there to have a clear picture of what is actually happening.

    Some of the speed limit reductions are justified. I agreed with reducing the speed limit on the highway to Banks Peninsula. In contrast reducing the speed limit on the Taupo to Napier highway to 80 is stupid.
    
    Same as reducing most urban speed limits to 40. Compliance in Christchurch is near zero.
    
    I would also like to see the law changed on overtaking where there is an overtaking lane so that the law matches practice rather than turning every driver into an offender.

      Recently drove Napier Taupo. 80km/h is most definitely stupid! Most were driving normally and safely and by and large not complying, at least to some extent.

        I generally agree with you, but in this case, while you are right and they should be in the left lane, there are too many things you don’t know about the driver. They might be simply thoughtless, but there might be another reason why they are in the right hand lane – like not paying attention bc of a bad day or anxious about an unfamiliar road or just not a very confident driver… I generally try to avoid scaring unknown people bc startled people do unexpected things and i don’t want anything unexpected on the road 😱

    I regularly drive SH1 between Blenheim and Christchurch – once or twice a month return.
    
    Last time got stuck about 15 cars back behind a numpty doing 70 in an area where the norm would be 110. Watching people trying for 20 minutes to get past was horrifying. The front few weren’t trying to pass (one was an old camper, one towing a trailer) so the rest of the queue were trying to get past as many cars as they could- but hardly anyone could get past the front 4 cars. It was a lesson in why the Police should be out getting idiots that don’t use their rear view mirror when travelling 30% under the speed limit should be heavily fined.

“Te Mana O Te Wai” statements appear to be a crucial device for Maori control of Water (the mechanism is not available to non-Maori) of Water – from the top level of the Maori Advisory Group (with Tipa Mahuta as Chair), to its supervision of Taumata Arowai (the new Water Regulator) and their supervisor of the Four Regional Entities, where there is other groups of “co-governance” which are the ones most opposition concentrates on – generally not realising this level is only the bottom of those who may issue “Te Mana O Te Wai” statements and missing the Tipa of this iceberg.

So what could a “Te Mana O Te Wai” statement actually involve?

■ Perhaps that commercial users of water be excluded from Maori policy decisions on the very water that commercial users base their livelihoods on – a position already muted.
■ Maybe an extension of the legal recognition of water as a personage, following the recognition of the waikato and Whanganui Rivers to be people.

Following some awareness of the possible power of “Te Mana O Te Wai” statements, can anyone explain what such a statement may encompass.
They are in the legislation, so what are they really for?

  Maori will own water and everything it passes through and over before the end of this Parliamentary Term.
  In the meantime, their Maori Caucus will and to a large extent, already have set in motion such laws as they consider necessary for this to remain in force in perpetuity.
  Note that Cindy, their great white enabler will be kept out of this argument if not out of the country because she is so dumb, they don’t need her assistance and if Labour loses the next election, it won’t matter because Maori will have achieved exactly what they wanted that couldn’t be achieved under Helen Clark. That being ownership of water.

      Well Benedict, how come the ‘Full and Final” payout to Maori from the ToW Tribunal was not seen by Maori as Full and Final? They’ve been back several times for “Top Ups”
      In that vein, I can’t see a new Govt taking back all of the Maori grabs that is 3Waters.
      As for A new government can change any of those laws, not if Co-Governance is enacted. Maori will not vote out a law that provides them with cash they never had eh? Co-Governance will have to be repealed first and who knows what Co-Governance will involve.
      PS: The water that passes through our Hydro Dams to create Electrical Power is also drinkable (Potable). Will Maori also clip our Power Bills for additional money (koha)?

        The “Maori” however defined are not a monolith. Just like within any other ethnicity there’s a wide divergence of political views, opinions and attitudes to life among the Maori. So who is actually driving this process? Who selected so called Maori “elites” and authorised them to speak and act on behalf of “Maori”? ? Who are they responsible to? Is there even such a thing as “Maori” as a whole, since assuming that there is, implies that there’s for example a monolithic “Chinese” speaking with the common voice and having uniform views and aspirations. The world is terrified of CO2 doubling. All manner of catastrophic outcomes are predicted. What should focus minds is what happens if CO2 halves.

At around 200ppm there is barely enough CO2 to keep plants alive. The potential for mass starvation would be very real. If there was a hard option between doubling or halving I would go with doubling. For most of the earth’s history CO2 levels have been much higher than a “doubling” figure.

    Umm, I don’t think you’re allowed to say that CO2 levels were ‘so low’.
    They were perfect before about 1850, and so was the weather, and any suggestion that this was not the case makes you a denier, and probably a right-wing racist to boot.
    I have a feeling that humans will die out (possibly due to starvation given how we’re destroying farming right now) well before CO2 levels get too low though, so I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

A fascinating AB test last night with little comment passed on the coaches needing to overcome various late changes whilst keeping an eye on the WC.
Whilst I think Tuipoluto should have been in the starting 15 it was good to see the coaching panel holding the longer-term plan.
Prior to the game, the public was given the inside picture of the decision to continue with Foster as a coach. What was pivotal it seems was that when asked if he would support Razor, co-coach Schmit said no because he had committed to Foster.
During times when loyalty appears less widely respected it was refreshing to know that NZRB was on the same page as its coaches.
It’s been a struggle to absorb how Roger went perhaps because I expected a little more on the attack but he was all class moving the ball under pressure. Ennor showed his instinct for the gap and the skill he has in abundance.
It was also great to see how up-to-speed Lienert Brown and Havili were when they came on as subs. Papili’i for the first time in Black seemed dominant.
Overall a good effort taking into account other games ahead and the flurry of late changes.

Most people knew that Wayne Brown was promising more than a split council could deliver but I’m surprised to see him take the position he has regarding cars off the wharf. It’s never going to happen in his term but politically a sounder idea than the “big one”, moving the ports.
At first, his letter-writing campaign seems a little naive but the other side is that he’s setting out his position for Aucklanders to like or dislike. That appears to be in part at least on the advice of Mathew Hooten. While we really won’t see the cones disappear anytime soon at least AT is on notice, as is hopefully the housing development wing that is burning up millions of advertising crap and the already exhausted words “in this space.”
Seems like Wayne is still trying to develop a solid majority among Councillors and I hope it is realised that many Aucklanders appear not to enjoy ongoing homage paid to our volcanic cones through single parties and not the whole city’s views and indeed access.
BTW potholes are being repaired in my experience in a reasonably quick time particularly if presenting a danger. One of the benefits that are possibly not widely considered is that it reminds Council who its duty is to – the ratepayers and people. Now that’s Wayne’s job.

Have travelled to the US recently. Had cause to have to RAT test for Covid several times whilst there. Went to the local CVS pharmacy. Was shocked to find the cheapest price for RAT tests was $10USD each. That’s nearly $20nzd each.

Dawned on me that Rat tests in NZ are hugely government subsidised. Also realised, judging by the crates and crates of these test kits sitting at nz immigration, that you can take for free that Ardern and Robertson’s government must have a mountainous stockpile of rat tests. (That was after they finally decided they would allow the NZ people legal access to them.)
I’m guessing this stockpile will all expire very shortly.

Has there been any accountability and public disclosure of the handling of these rat tests, how much they cost the NZ tax payer and how many they have left, about to expire rendering them another waste of public money in the name of Ardern’s ‘Covid response’?

Or are the NZ media just going to sweep that under the carpet to save Ardern’s reputation, as they have done so throughout the pandemic?

It’s not likely to kill you, there are more or less no restrictions now, everyone has immunity, and so the only reason is to satisfy yourself as to the identity of the particular bug you have. Did you ever rush off for a test if you came down with a bug before? I see that your New Zealand papers and media are still pushing Covid articles and trying to keep everyone there in fear, but I thought that most of the people on this blog would have been able to see through that.

  The right to appeal an adverse decision by any authority with the ability to make a ruling that adversely affects one’s interests is fundamental in any democracy. I see Allan is also talking about removing people’s ability to appeal adverse name suppression decisions. While there is much about the latter that is in need of repair, the right to appeal is a foundation stone of any justice system. Yet again, the Government is trying to take away rights because they don’t personally agree with the way they are being exercised.

A woke government, served by a woke broadcaster, might just be persuaded to embark on a bold new broadcasting journey.
NOBODY HAS YET come up with a credible case for amalgamating Radio New Zealand and Television New Zealand. Even so, the merger proceeds apace, costing the taxpayer a ridiculous amount of money – to no good end. No one truly believes the quality of the broadcasting product will improve. The present audiences of both networks have longstanding gripes with the overall direction of their public broadcasters, but the response of those in charge has been to double-down on the very policies their audiences find most objectionable. With no clear rationale for the amalgamation of RNZ and TVNZ on offer, the cynicism of those who were formerly public broadcasting’s strongest defenders can only grow.

  We don’t need a state controlled radio station, we don’t need a state controlled TV station, and we certainly don’t need a state controlled merged entity.
  
  In today’s world, the only time the government needs any role in broadcasting is to make it a condition of licenses that transmissions can be interrupted with necessary safety messenger in the event of an actual or imminent adverse natural event (flood, tsunami, earthquake).
  
  Any other messaging could be delivered, using paid-for advertising.

It’s time for the Government to admit that crime is out of control, and to give the Police additional powers before an officer is killed.

Frontline Police have been neutered by a series of directions from Police National HQ (known on the front line as Bullshit Castle) which have had a profound negative effect on policing. Andrew Coster’s doctrine of Policing by Consent is not working, and offenders have been emboldened by frontline officers being hamstrung. That’s why so many senior Police have either left, or are seriously considering leaving.

We’re fast approaching a state of anarchy, and until those responsible for the appalling rate of violent crime are caught, prosecuted and given meaningful sentences (not Home D for drive-by shootings or rape, as have occurred in the last few weeks), nothing will change.

  The blokes at bowls reckon that the Ram Raid Rats should be put into a boot camp to learn to read and write and generally get “civilised” Only let out when they can pass the tests. Up early in the morning for excercises and to work at school for the day.

The Wokies and Maori activists have started on geologists’ newly established, mainly submerged, continent, Zealandia.

The State-subsidised NZ Herald today names it Te Riu-a-Māui/Zealandia.

It’s reporting on a grant from the tattered Royal Society of NZ to geologist Nick Mortimer to study the continent.

Says the Herald:

During his fellowship, Mortimer will seek collaborators to bridge the physical sciences and matauranga Maori, a body of knowledge that arrived here from Polynesia and developed in Aotearoa.

What could pre-colonisation Maori have possibly known about such a submerged continent? Was Maui a free diver as well a canoeist and fisherman?

  There is little value in matauranga just as there is no value in the knowledge of prehistoric man .
  
  Once a wheel is invented, you move onto the next thing. Maori were leapfrogged by some 5000 years.
  
  An aspect of maori knowledge that could be useful is in the medicinal properties of native flora.
  
  I occasionally feel grateful to those who came before me for figuring out which plants were poisonous and which had therapeutic properties. Many must have died in the accumulation of such knowledge.
