  hope they push back hard- a NZ climate change scientist (not a denier by any means) has said it has been proven that they have over estimated the effects of Methane by a factor of four! It is acknowledged by all of the sceintific community but has hardly been acknowledge by the climaye commission or Liebour as it is as Al Gore put it “An inconvienient Truth”.

      Farmers went to meetings run by Dairy NZ and Beef and Lamb to be told by their levy paid employees that they are dirty polluters and if they don’t accept whatever deal farmer “representatives” cobble together based on shonky science then farmers would be forced into the ETS.
      Just like people were been “nudged” into getting mRNA vaccines the government is ” nudging” people out of driving cars, farming animals and eating safe abundant food in the name of gaia.

      We should learn what not to do from Germany and what to do from France.
      
      Now is not the time to follow the Green lemmings off an energy cliff.
      
      Nothing New Zealand does or doesn’t do will have any substantive effect on global climate.
      
      Anything we do, at great economic expense, will simply be swamped by the actions of China and India.
      
      There are only two courses of action.
      
      1.Ignore the babble of doom mongers and have an adult conversation about New Zealand’s ability to adapt to climate change. I would suggest that Bjorn Lomborg be consulted in respect of common sense
      approaches for NZ. I understand that unlike Labour, Dr Lomborg has actually done the numbers.
      
      2. Invest in modular nuclear technology. This technology, like the visionary Fibre rollout of a decade ago has the potential to end energy poverty in New Zealand along with many of the societal ills
      that accompany it. Like Broadband we could institute flat rate billing, which would especially help the poorest in NZ use electricity for heating and cooking.
      
      Any other options (including more unreliable wind and solar generation) will merely add to the economic sabotage being currently committed by Labour.

    It’s a bit more complicated than that, if produce prices rise higher than international prices then people import.
    That’s how we’ve destroyed the New Zealand pork industry. Only if the rest of the world enacts the same stupidity and this is on the cards will international prices and hence our own rise.
    However by putting the brakes on domestic production we lower the value of the NZ dollar and everything gets more expensive for everyone. Sound familiar?
    Really stupid politicians then print more money to stimulate the economy and kick off rampant inflammation, also sound familiar?
    Really, really stupid politicians voted in for a third term, (Actually the ninth term of Helen Clark’s government) by really, really, really, stupid voters will try to Muldoon the economy while elevating tribalism to the ruling class.

  # NZ ruminant methane emissions are 1% of 14% of 0.018% of the atmosphere. (It takes a lot of imagination to believe they make an impact).
  # The IPCC has stated in constant emissions as we have the warming effect is 3 to 4 times overstated. (Would you pay tax on an income that was so damagingly wrong)
  # Methane is heavily overshadowed by water vapour on the electromagnetic spectrum where it is 15,000 to 16,000 times more prevalent. (Warmists only look at methane molecules potency not it actual warming ability)
  # Fonterra farmer suppliers have reduced methane emissions by 11% since 2017. (Why attack farmers when their emissions are falling and CO2 emitters are increasing their emissions)
  # We subsidise overseas investors to plant trees on good farmland to reduce rising CO2 levels and penalise farmers who are actually now contributing to cooling. (Ruminant methane levels are steadily falling and have been since 2005)
  # NZ signed the Paris Agreement saying agricultural production should not be curtailed. (Taxing farmers and planting trees does just that)
  # What does not get produced here because of taxation and penalties will be produced elsewhere with a higher carbon footprint. ( That indicates the level of intellectual prowess of this govt.)
  
  BUT we are going to be first – that trumps common sense and equity.

  I honestly can’t work out how we got this far with climate change / emissions initiatives when do many first order issues are by no means resolved:
  
  1. If we can all agree that the climate is changing to what extent is this the result of human activity – 10%, 20%, 80% etc? Without knowing this (and I don’t think we do) we have no idea what influence our policies will have on climate.
  
  2. Where is the place for unders and overs in this framework? Some activities will be net contributors to carbon emissions but this can be offset by carbon sinks etc – for example if NZ farms are net carbon producers but feed the world and still produce less carbon than the countries that would otherwise do the production then what’s wrong with that?
  
  3. What is the broader impact of these policies? Sure if we clamp down on everything the atmosphere might be healthier (maybe) but what of the social and economic results including unintended consequences?
  
  I actually think this is the biggest scam to grow legs in my life. Nz farms will go bust if this direction carries on, with all sorts of unintended consequences. It’s time the left was seriously challenged on its claim to being wiser and more grounded in science – they are the total opposite. And the mainstream centre right parties need to grow a pair and stand up to it.

The Geological Survey of Finland has done some excellent work on what it would take to electrify transport systems and to move to renewable energy.

They conclude that there is not enough lithium and cobalt on the planet to produce even one generation of EVs to replace the world vehicle fleet.

They also looked at the challenge of producing sufficient electricity by using wind and solar. They conclude that it is literally impossible by an enormous margin.

  Each EV needs about 2 tons of cobalt ore scratched out of the ground – typically by hand, down a hole dug by hand, by a kid less than 15.
  
  While a huge song and dance is made about the small amount of cobalt that goes into a phone, almost nothing is said about the vast amount that goes into EV batteries.

    Well under 5% of cobalt comes from mines that are outside major industrial mines. These days known as “artisan mines”, which rather disguises the exploitative nature of them. Of course most family based businesses anywhere in the world have some degree of family labour. Ask anyone who grew up on a farm.
    
    Artisan mines are really a feature of the Congo and adjacent countries and even in the Congo only make up a very small percentage of cobalt extraction. Australia is rapidly becoming the world’s major supplier of cobalt.
    
    As for lithium, it is not actually scarce. There is at least 21 million tonnes of available reserves, and as with most minerals these reserves will expand as more intensive exploration takes place. So there is no real prospect of running out of lithium, especially given that a car needs only 5 to 8 kg of lithium.

    Nope. Hydrogen is mostly produced by steam reforming of the methane in natural gas. Why would you not just use the natural gas as a fuel unless you have a specialised requirement for hydrogen? Other processes like electrolysis of water exist but are inefficient and wasteful.

      They chose to completely ignore Ray Chung who, in spite of that, ended up in third place ahead of Paul Eagle.

Jacinda – simple, or “more sophisticated” – define how any other system will work

For example: “co-” as in “co-governance” means equal
In rough population figures, Maori are 17 percent portion and non-Maori 83 percent.
To raise Maori to 50 percent multiple roughly by 3
To reduce non-Maori 83 percent to 50 percent multiple by 0.6
So instead of one person, one vote –
you now have Maori 3, non-Maori 0.6
or Maori 5 to non-Maori 1
That is following the logic of “co-” meaning an equal Treaty “partnership”
What would be the “logic” to establish anything in between that and one person, one vote?

Looks like New Zealand will be the first nation to charge farmers for emissions. If this reduces dairy output, won’t other dairy exporters just grab that market share? Effect on global emissions is therefore nil.

Maybe I am missing something. I hope that the Government has done this analysis.

Looking at results from Bay of Plenty Regional Council.
It took a minimum 5649 votes to elect a person in a general seat but only 1266 in a Maori seat.
More odd is the number of blank votes. Over 1000 in one ward. That means 1000 people took the time to find a PO Box but couldn’t find the time to tick something. Not to be confused with informal or spoiled papers.

  In our ward, for example, we had a vote for mayor, two votes for councillors & seven Local Board members.
  Someone may have only voted for a mayoral candidate and left the others blank or just voted for their mate standing for the Local Board.

I listened to Luxon this morning with Hawkesby and then Seymour with Hosking. It really is chalk and cheese. Luxon sounded like he was reading from a script and wasn’t able to depart from that while Seymour sounded as though he really believed in what he was saying – which also sounded like common sense re co-governance. I really do hope that Luxon can start to speak with passion some day really soon.

But more to the point, Luxon was adamant that National already opposes co-governance of public services, which he has said any number of times over the last three to four months, including his speech to the National Party conference in August where he said:
  
  A country that emphasizes what unites us, instead of what divides us. A country that says absolutely, explicitly, that there is one standard of democracy, equal voting rights and no co-governance of public services.
  
  That’s the New Zealand I want to live in.
  
  National and Act are pretty much in step on the issue of co-governance. Both are opposed.

    Agree, Nats say they oppose co governance. However, why they would fight ACT over a referendum on the issue makes it seem otherwise. A resounding vote against co governance would be hard for future labour governments to go against. Why not run a referendum that solidifies your position?

      In other words, he was not ruling out, or endorsing the proposal. We need to listen to what they are saying, not jump to impulsive conclusions.

        I guess for me this sort of stuff lust seems like a guaranteed vote winner for the right. Sure some white professors and Maori will oppose it but they were never voting National / Act in the first place. Let’s not forget that we’re still a year out from the election, and a lot can happen in that time, especially if the government gets desperate, and Ardern stands up to the Maori caucus.     I also heard the Auckland Council CEO on checkpoint yesterday. He was interesting in light of Mayor Brown’s criticism of the books earlier in the day.

  Why does one family have so much food they don’t know what to do with it, yet the next families kids are eating out of the bins? Are the bin eaters the incorrect race?

  And this story is about the so called good ones. The other family has a 2 and 5 year old eating from the bins while dad is at work and mum is asleep. I’m just going to put it out there that she isn’t tired from working the night shift.

  I don’t think referendums are binding under our current law, jon. And it wouldn’t matter if it was – the “co-governance” argument is that the Treaty is our founding document and it establishes co-governance. And there is no way of changing or invalidating the Treaty that they would accept.
  
  The co-governance argument is essential for some people because it gives them and their descendants guaranteed power and position (and significant income) forever.
  
  Opposing it is equally essential for the rest of us, as it is the only way to avoid permanent underclass status in the only country most of us have a legal right to live in.

      Not true. They generally failed because of either lack of standing or because judges weren’t willing to overturn people’s votes based on a potential for fraud (which is all that can be proven with effective fraud). The judges position on potential for fraud was correct and what should have happened after the election was for these issues to be fixed so this potential didn’t exist for future elections.
      
      Instead, the Democrats actively pushed to make this potential even bigger. Looks dodgy but is very hard to prove fraud.
      
      Obviously also impossible to prove that fraud didn’t exist too. I was wondering when they’d get called out for the “big lie” position. It does seems like a case for defamation as “lacking criminal level evidence of truth” (which was what judges were demanding) does not make something a lie.

        Calling what happened ‘Fraud’ is a stretch and obscures what the real problem was.
        The Executive of some States changed the Rules for Absentee Voting when they did not have authority to make , what were, Legislative changes.
        They made it easy for fraud NOT to be detected. And succeeded.
        There is a lot info showing the system became easy to abuse with Ballot harvesting and insecure drop off Ballot boxes.
        This was rife in Counties (think Mariocopa) which are mainly Dem strongholds and all the officials are Dems. They all turned a blind eye to it.
        Funny that some of those Counties had over 100% turnout…

        The States making changes they didn’t have the right to make is a huge problem but, as I said, the Courts decided (correctly) that that wasn’t enough reason to throw out those votes, unless it could be proven they were fraudulent (which they couldn’t which is the point behind removing controls).

Can anyone remember Julie Anne Genter Green MP squeal about the numbers of deaths on our roads in 2017 and how this Labour Government was going to fix the problem.
Well the figure say they continued to rise in 2018 with a total of 286 then declined with totals of 261 in 2019, 239 in 2020 and 251 in 2021, some think that was expected with less cars on the roads with the Covid-19 Pandemic and lockdowns.
But now we have high figures again with 284 deaths over the same period today.

So another failure for the Government who canned building more Motorways because they believe it increased deaths and now we are left to drive on roads with less maintenance and plenty of potholes because of people like Green MP Julie Anne Genter.

      Fixed one the other day, split two wheels and pulled the front strut and steering rack out. Was nasty.
      
      The other thing people don’t understand is when you hit a pothole you get a bruise in the hardening on the wheel bearing running surface. Most mechanics dont think about this and don’t replace it at the time.
      
      It won’t fail immediately but 6-12 months later it will, long after your insurance claim is closed…

He clearly does not know what he is talking about, which is alarming for someone in his position.
According to him, giving 5 percent of the population – a mestizo population, by the way (you might not like the term but it is accurate) – preferential treatment is not preferential treatment.
It’s giving them an added special consideration based on their Maori ancestors’ being here before their pakeha ancestors arrived.
That can only be preferential treatment for 5 percent of the population.

  But most of the emissions come from dairy farmers and most of the dairy exports are ‘commodity’ products. There is no such thing as ‘green’ milk powder. For upmarket products such as colostrum and baby formula, parents might pay a premium if they perceive that New Zealand baby formula is ‘safer’ or ‘purer’ than Chinese baby formula. But they are not going to give a damn if the cows that produced the milk for the baby formula had their emissions taxed. 🙂 Too funny.

Then I heard that the NZ dollar had dropped to .5551 against the US dollar.
I expect an increase in petrol with our dollar currently so weak. BUT, normally petrol prices rise immediately and drop gradually. There seems to be something strange here.

Here’s a challenge for the climate commission. How about backing up your unscientific farming emissions by comparing the cost benefit of politicians with farming on the same basis.
Farming produces foreign exchange.
Feeds 40m people.
Supports rural communities and service industries.
Provides employment.
Funds the domestic economy via taxes, levies and GST.
Produces co2 to green the planet.
Adopts best practice to reduce emissions.
Uses scientific research to manage methane that is 4 x over estimated.

Politicians.
Destroy jobs.
Encourage planting of pines on pastoral land.
Graze on the most expensive foods available.
Air travel most weekends back to their electorates.
Regular overseas flights.
Impose climate change levies on the economy.
Fund gangs and terrorist regimes.
Collapse the economy on a fake pandemic.
Increase fertiliser costs by restricting supply of gas.
Close down oil and gas exploration.
Destroy democracy.
Hand assets over to maori.
Etc etc etc.

The only herd size that needs reducing is 120 leeches in parliament, cull the lot of them.
So what say you Mr Carr, shall we set up an experiment measuring emissions of 1 politician say Megan Woods against say one Friesian cow, huh?

  Food contains carbon. Almost all that carbon was extracted from the air by photosynthesis.
  
  Politicians fly around the world rubbing noses. In doing so they turn millions of litres of hydrocarbons into CO2.
  
  But somehow, farmers must be taxed for CO2 emissions and politicians like Jimmy Shaw (the worst offender of the lot) get a pat on the back for the awesome job they do.

Knowing that Labour will never get this off the ground like any of their other anchor projects the only ones this will hurt are themselves and the Greens. So well done PM and continue on announcing major transformational projects that will never happen but demonstrate the value you place on the New Zealand economy, trade, rural areas, people, and environment. Do you even stop for one second to think that the 40 million people New Zealands helps to feed will either starve or source their food needs from elsewhere with a consequential growth in that countries emissions at probably a higher rate than ours ?. Isn’t food meant to be outside the ETS consideration. The shallowness of this childish government thinking is incredibly disturbing.

In a time of acute housing shortage and low interest rates, many firms gave credit to the Auckland house builder DDL Homes Central, owned by a female entrepreneur, Baljit Kaur Dheil, 918 Redoubt Road, Flat Bush, Auckland.

The Herald reports DDL Homes Central was working on a 180-house development but is now bust. Related companies that owed it $18 million failed a few months ago.

DDL Homes Central’s owner, Baljit Kaur Dheil, also owned two other DDL companies put into receivership four months ago.

In a liquidator’s report on these two companies, Baljit Kaur Dheil attributed the failure of the companies to distress, delays, shortages and cost overruns caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns, a break in, and insufficient presales.

In February 2022, the finance company Vincent Capital Ltd stopped funding to the companies and requested e repayment by 26 May 2022. Her subsequent attempts to refinance the development were unsuccessful.

DDL Homes South Ltd, in liquidation, had a director and shareholder Harjit Singh Dheil, also of 918 Redoubt Road, Flat Bush, Auckland.

In 2019, Harjit Singh Dheil was convicted of blackmail and sentenced to home detention. In May last year, the High Court gave Dheil a dispensation from a resultant Companies Act ban on being a company director.

Justice Mathew Downs said Dheil’s offending was “calculated and serious”, but he was otherwise of good character, and had no other convictions.

“The offending occurred more than six years ago. It represents a departure–not a pattern.”

The judgment was reported as including “the defendant’s wife no longer wished to hold the fort”.

Misleading headline, relayed by Tracy Withers Tue, 11 October 2022 at 1:45 pm.

The government will adopt the main recommendation from the He Waka Eke Noa primary sector climate action partnership to price the emissions at the farm level rather than including them in the nation’s emissions trading scheme, Ardern said Tuesday in Wellington.
Now what does that mean? Farm level rather that the ETS?

  It means that each farmer will pay a tax on their emissions at a rate determined by the Government. The emissions will not be part of the ETS. If farmers were in the ETS, they would need to purchase New Zealand Units at a price determined by the market to cover their emissions.

Back in the19th century the American bison or Buffalo roamed North America in their tens of millions.
They are and were a ruminant like the 5 million cattle we have in NZ. Those bison 🦬 have been killed off to the point of extinction only to be replaced by our cattle. Surely this balances out the methane in our atmosphere and that means that a climate Tax is really not needed.
Surely the focus , if necessary, should be on the highly industrial countries that pour out vast amounts of smoke, steam and other very toxic chemicals.
But little Jimmy thinks he can fix the climate single handed.

I have been saying since the ram raids started that these kids will get bored and decide to go bigger, well it’s happened in Huntly this morning with a young person holding up the bus driver with a knife and cleaning out the car till . This has been encouraged by the actions of our Prime Minister and the Police and again shows if there is no consequences thi gs will get worse.
