I like the Queen. She has been a ‘constant’ throughout my life. Not looking forward to her passing. Her replacement-in-waiting is a eco-loon, and his son isn’t much better.

  I’ve never understood why people bang on about not liking Charles or, indeed, William.
  
  They will each be king, accidents notwithstanding, and there’s nothing you can do about it. That’s how the monarchy works, and it is a greater institution than any one sovereign.
  
  What would you prefer? President Helen Clark?

    Probably correct. Little likelihood of them interfering in our political system like they do in their home country.
    But if that is the main recommendation for a head of state, why don’t other countries long to adopt the method of having a foreign head of state who seldom even visits?

      I know you’re not actually asking a question, mike, but instead making a point, but other countries do not have the history or, frequently, have a megalomaniac involved who actually wants to be king but is happy with President in the meantime. And it’s not the main recommendation but it’s a useful advantage in these difficult times. Between Michael Cullen and Grant Robertson Labour really has spent the lot.

That’s very interesting. I’m amazed at how many NZ Prime Ministers she met over the years. Apart from Rowling, the others she didn’t were only in office for a few months. Hopefully she will get a chance to meet Luxon in his capacity as New Zealands next prime minister in the not too distant future.

If Kewpie starts behaving like a pm in waiting and provides an effective counter to the stifling hive minded progressives I might be induced to vote National. So far nothing… Till then it’s a plague on all their houses.

“PM’s WHO have met the Queen” DPF…shame on you! “That” is for inanimate objects as in: “the car that crashed off the road” and “the crane that recovered the car from where it had come to rest.”

And for those who missed it: note the closet lesbian who used to run the cutter deliberately wearing trousers knowing full well that was a breach of protocol…but she’s still not brave enough to admit she’s been in a lavender marriage for 40 odd years, and they still label each other’s food in the fridge. Anyone know any other married couple WHO do that??

    Krazy: Actually she did two things right: the first was the Foreshore and Seabed Act which re-established what had been settled law for 50 years until some activist judge changed it; and banning smoking in pubs…even though I myself have the odd ciggie, especially when having a beer, who would really want to go back to the days where you couldn’t see the bar for smoke, and your clothes stank of it when you got home?
    
    Other than that, she was a ruthless social engineer who happily threw her underlings under the bus when necessary.

  That appears to be an error in the video. It is another picture of Sid Holland, isn’t it? And Walter Nash was PM from 1957 to 1960, not in 1953.

Can someone actually explain why a constitutional monarchy with the Queen as head of state and the westminster system is so bad for this country?

Yet we are told by pro-republican people that this system is archaic and needs replacing.

A republic of NZ with a president in charge sound’s more scary to me than what we already have.

It will be a sad day when the Queen passes on and is succeeded by her cuckoo son Charles but I would prefer him to a president of NZ.

  Rusty: That’s pretty much my view too…King Charles III (he may of course choose to be known by one of this other numerous Christian names) has to be infinitely superior to President Clark or God forbid, President (Anne) Salmond…Due to his advanced years – which may be even more advanced still if he has inherited his mother and father’s genes for longevity – will probably never visit here anyway.
