    Does he say that Labour is delivering great outcomes in NZ? Does he reel off a list of their achievements? Does he parade a host of measures of where they are outperforming previous governments? Does he point to polls hailing how wonderfully people think Labour are doing in various areas?
    
    No, none of these.
    
    What Mutton is is the worst of voters in NZ – those that back their side irrespective of their total failure to deliver. That back an ideology even though that ideology repeatedly not only fails to achieve the outcomes sought but actively ruins lives in the process.

    I did see a comment somewhere, from his widow IIRC, to the effect that Tommy had been effectively ostracised by his family when he had been up North, which is why he decided to be in Wellington.
    
    Regardless, the case is a salutary lesson to put one’s wishes in writing, & preferably in the hands of a reputable law firm.
    
    Would be interesting to see how the Public Trust handled such a case.

Australia is soon introducing a new web based points system to retain full unemployment benefits, based on meeting a range of obligations to reach 100 points a month. For example, 5 points for making a job application, 20 points a week for full time employability skills training. There are nearly a million Australians on these benefits.

Maybe Ms Arden can have a word with Mr Albanese for a discounted purchase price on the system.

The main legislation empowering Three Waters passed its First Reading in Parliament yesterday, with Labour, the Greens and Te Pati Maori predictably supporting it.

National and Act MP’s spoke in opposition to the legislation, and National’s Local Government spokesman Simon Watts gave an excellent speech, which began with this paragraph:

SIMON WATTS (National—North Shore): Yesterday, I said that this bill was a 134-page severance letter to Labour’s back bench, and I can tell by the way that those members on the opposite side are looking that they agree with that statement. It is more than that. This is about the spirit of this Government and their approach. National will oppose this bill, and we will fight for our communities every step of the way. National will repeal three waters.

Watts hit the nail on the head with his comments about the “134-page severance letter” for Labour’s backbench MP’s. Many of them are from rural or provincial electorates or locations, and that is where opposition to Three Waters is most entrenched. Last night 550 people attended a public meeting at the Invercargill Workingmen’s Club, and big crowds have attended every meeting so far on the Taxpayers’ Union’s Stop Three Waters tour. With Labour’s poll numbers dropping steadily, and likely to drop more as winter bites and prices continue to rise, a number of Labour backbenchers will feel as though the sword of Damocles is hanging over their heads.

  A large chunk of Labour’s current MPs were always going to have very short political careers.
  
  Labour’s 2020-election result was due to a massive COVID-induced popularity bubble. Their polling was never going to stay that high long-term, so a lot of Labour’s 2020-intake of new MPs were always likely to be single-term (they might just have managed two-terms if the pandemic had lasted longer, but it didn’t). Realistically, the lowest 20-25 ranked Labour MPs are gone next election, and by now they must know that.

  Luxon needs to be the one saying this in public to try and get cut through.
  He should call a press conference while the bill is still before the house, and stress in a few bullet points what’s wrong with this legislation – including the whole co-governance rort, which I suspect a lot of Kiwis are unaware of.

    There’s no panic oldfella. The Bill is off to select committee, and isn’t due back until November. There will be a call for submissions to the select committee soon, and THAT will be the time for National and Act to ensure that the select committee hears the views of hundreds of thousands of Kiwis who oppose the legislation.

  I see we have until 22 July, just six weeks, to make submissions to the Select Committee (Finance and Expenditure) on the bill. We must take the opportunity to do so. There are plenty of solid reasons to oppose it. Among other things, the equal suffrage issue is as pertinent here as it was in the Rotorua Representation Arrangements Bill where we achieved great things. People should also ask to appear before the Committee when they submit.

To sign up for the Uni open day they ask you which ethnic group do you most identify and there is a drop down list from which you can chose only one. Interesting because at High school you are asked on the form and can identify with multiple ethnicities. But at Uni you can select only the one that you *most* identify as. There’s no way to identify as ethnically diverse.

But for Gender the first answer on the drop down is gender diverse. So you can identify with more than one gender but not more than one ethnicity.

Why they need to know your gender or ethnicity at an open day is offensive anyways and I encourage my kids to just leave it all blank.

  Good questions. One technical correction. ILI’s are more harmful for anyone overweight, and also for anyone with low Vitamin D3 levels. People from dark-skinned ethnic groups produce less Vitamin D3 than do fair skinned people, so their risk factor is higher, but during winter everyone will have lower natural Vitamin D3 than they did over summer.
  
  Regardless of ones ethnicity, good advice for everyone might be
  1. Exercise and loose a bit/lots of any excess weight
  2. Eat healthy foods
  3. Get good quantity of sleep
  4. Supplement with advised doses of Vitamin D3, Zinc and Quercetin

The day after Biden said to put all his political opponents in jail and the same day as the Prime Time, professionally produced Jan 6th Kangaroo Court. My daughter has the flu — influenza A, confirmed via pcr. I’m vaccinated as of 4 weeks ago, therefore low chance of getting sick.

We were pretty sure it was the flu, high temp, run over by a bus feeling.

Vomiting bug circulating too. Combined with the nasty weather, makes me wanna do a trip to someplace warm….maybe Hawaii or Las Vegas.

  As a business owner and employer I can empathize with that article.
  
  Over the years we’ve been lucky to have had mostly really good employees. Unfortunately there have also been a few that think they don’t actually have to show up if the surf is running or believe that four weeks vacation, twelve holidays and ten sick days a year isn’t enough.
  
  Showing up on Friday with a sunburned face after calling in sick on Thursday when the Shihad Big Day Out vestival was in town was one great example. A lady that did piece work had no work because of his absence.
  
  The lady that regularly dissapeared into the toilet for 20 minutes at a time with her cell phone was another unrewarding experience.

Global warming is really causing havoc in Aust and NZ at the moment –yeah right!

Record cold temperatures in Queensland and NSW and high snow peaks in NZ must be a result of global warming — yeah right!

Even our tv news weather folk can’t help telling us how cold its going to get for the following days but that doesn’t stop them having news reports on the dangers of global warming around the world
