Today is the day the UK removes the final remnants of mask madness. From today patients, clinicians and visitors are no longer required to wear masks in clinical settings. Mandates on public transport were removed a few months back.

I’m keen for one of the Ardern sycophants around here to use The Science™ to explain to me why we are required to wear masks in supermarkets and shops, a question you can perhaps consider while sitting with your radiant visage in full view at a crowded cafe or bar today.

    Indeed I am not, ClanMcleod. Been offline most of the weekend but have just seen DPF post from yesterday – No in-store tastings!. Kb’ers know generally know what is going on here. The lies. The argumentum ad verecundiam used to ban supermarket tastings. It’s time officious little bureaucrats, like the ones at WorkSafe, were put back in their boxes

      How is such an irrational set of ideas as those surrounding Covid accepted by the masses?
      
      Gustav le Bon from The Crowd: A Study of the Popular Mind, re: inculcating ideas among crowds via the means of Affirmation, Repetition and Contagion:
      
      “When it is proposed to imbue the mind of a crowd with ideas and beliefs – with modern social theories, for instance – the leaders have recourse to different expedients. The principal of them are three in number and clearly defined – affirmation, repetition, and contagion. Their action is somewhat slow, but its effects, once produced, are very lasting.
      
      Affirmation pure and simple, kept free of all reasoning and all proof, is one of the surest means of making an idea enter the mind of crowds. The conciser an affirmation is, the more destitute of every appearance of proof and demonstration, the more weight it carries. Statesmen called upon to defend a political cause, and commercial men pushing the sale of their products by means of advertising are acquainted with the value of affirmation.
      
      Affirmation, however, has no real influence unless it be constantly repeated, and so far as possible in the same terms. The thing affirmed comes by repetition to fix itself in the mind in such a way that it is accepted in the end as a demonstrated truth.
      
      The influence of repetition on crowds is comprehensible when the power is seen which it exercises on the most enlightened minds. This power is due to the fact that the repeated statement is embedded in the long run in those profound regions of our unconscious selves in which the motives of our actions are forged. At the end of a certain time we have forgotten who is the author of the repeated assertion, and we finish by believing it. To this circumstance is due the astonishing power of advertisements … we end by acquiring the certitude that such is the fact.
      
      When an affirmation has been sufficiently repeated and there is unanimity in this repetition …. what is called a current of opinion is formed and the powerful mechanism of contagion intervenes. Ideas, sentiments, emotions, and beliefs possess in crowds a contagious power as intense as that of microbes.
      
      In the case of men collected in a crowd all emotions are very rapidly contagious, which explains the suddenness of panics. For individuals to succumb to contagion their simultaneous presence on the same spot is not necessary. The action of contagion may be felt from a distance under the influence of events which give all minds an individual trend and the characteristics peculiar to crowds.
      
      Man, like animals, has a natural tendency to imitation. Imitation is a necessity for him, provided always that the imitation is quite easy. Whether in the matter of opinions, ideas, literary manifestations, or merely of dress, how many persons are bold enough to run counter to the fashion? It is by examples not by arguments that crowds are guided. At every period there exists a small number of individualities which react upon the remainder and are imitated by the unconscious mass. It is needful however, that these individualities should not be in too pronounced disagreement with received ideas.
      
      The opinions and beliefs of crowds are specially propagated by contagion, but never by reasoning. The conceptions at present rife among the working classes have been acquired at the public-house as the result of affirmation, repetition, and contagion, and indeed the mode of creation of the beliefs of crowds of every age has scarcely been different … Contagion is so powerful a force that even the sentiment of personal interest disappears under its action.”

      And to think I almost voted for him but I moved out of his electorate a few months before the election.

        National must straddle the centre, just as Key worked out, all the people I hear in droves going back to Nats are centre voters, no hard right voter voted Labour, but 400k switched from the centre. Act were set up to aim for the hard right while Nats were too straddle the centre, Ardern is doing the hard left damage, if you vote for one of those tin pot parties like Matt King or NZF then all you do is usher in Cindy

      It’s not indefensible at all, science in the farming sector can get our emissions right down, dung Beattie, ryegrass that can cut carbon by 30% right now all helps, what the fuck is indefensible about that?
      I work in agri, and sheep snd beef farmers are very committed to getting their emissions down, they have made quick progress in fencing of water ways 95% planting on un productive lands, many have put planted flaxes and the like near small water bodies like a spring, which creates a carbon sink hole, don’t say bullshit because it’s fact, also sheep farming is now carbon neutral, so the trick is the science getting the dairy and cattle side of things to carbon neutral, farmers are aware they have too move. No one wants yo hear the climate alarmist bullshit, but it does not mean farmers do not want to be seen as clean

        What do you want Luxon to do? In this era he will do nothing for brand National, if he:
        1. Attacks everything Jacinda, just because he is the opposition; and
        2. Lays out all National’s policies 15-17 months before the next election.
        
        Remember, oppositions don’t win elections, governments lose them or as in the case of 2017 a minor party has enough influence to be a king maker.

  You should also be aware that from the end of May, they will bring in a new card which will be personalised i.e. it will have your details. The existing ones don’t say who it’s for, however I’ve only been asked once to show it (getting into Te Papa a couple of weeks ago).

    I refuse to participate in this charade. I will not carry “my papers” or any other type of identifying mark to enable the government or their willing little helpers keep tabs on me. I grew up under apartheid and the majority of the population having to carry the “dompass” which restricted where they could go, what kind of jobs they could have and with whom they could associate.       Yep. Work-arounds simply affirm the system, so should be avoided. Just as many are too scared to disobey (a factor that is known and relied upon for compliance) so too many are too scared to enforce compliance. If challenged, just politely and unyieldingly refuse and if necessary leave the place. If you are not willing to sacrifice in the short term if necessary, then you are going to be a slave longer term. More than likely, nobody will be willing to say anything, and the more so the more people are refusing to comply. Do not underestimate the power that we all have if we stand up for what is right. As much as our elected representatives, we are participants in a so-called free society, but we will be reduced to slaves if we do not assert ourselves, and do it now. The government knows full well how powerful a united populace is, which is why they try so hard to atomise and marginalise dissent.

    There is no requirement to ‘upgrade’ to the new pass. Most places don’t argue if you simply say “I don’t wear a mask”.
    One shop did ask why – OK I didn’t say I had an exemption – and was quite happy when I replied that I followed The Science™.

  krazy – quite right. You are supposed to wear a mask entering the café and ordering your flat white. But then when you sit down it’s all good to take off your mask. It’s a tricky virus that knows when you’re sitting down and when you are standing up.
  The thing about masks is that it shows we are compliant. We are complying to government edicts. It is also an opportunity for people to signal the virtue and show that they are good people and care for other people by wearing masks.
  
  It is a great way for the government to control us and to show us that we are under their control. I have thought for some time that we are in the second term of the rule of increasingly rabid social control freaks. They may smile nicely and speak nicely but at the end of the day they think they know better than you how you should live your life. It amazes me that to this day we still have all of these advertisements on every channel telling us to get a booster and that will be the best protection against covid 19??
  
  When you realise it is all about socialist control then things start to make a lot more sense. The solution is to eject the socialist control freaks from office come the next election.

      My – many people have enjoyed the drama of covid and the mask wearing makes them think they are indicating what a “good” citizen they are. That they “care” about others. Virtue signaling, pure and simple. Many have had beige, meaningless lives. This has been “exciting” in a warped way for some sad people.     I was at Pak n Save yesterday, watching people while in the long checkout queues.
    
    90% masked incl all asians, and nearly all white faces. Unmasked were a few Maori and Polynesian families – the whole family. They all give you a big smile, it’s like a secret club 🤣.
    
    In contrast at my local super which is mostly white faces it’s only me mask free. Hasn’t changed in the 6 mth since I stopped conforming.

  What’s super irrating is we still have to get a supervised RAT test to get back to NZ when there is much more COVID around in NZ per capita.

    How can you conclude masks don’t work, based on current infection rates? Most people aren’t even wearing masks. Maybe you could be proving the opposite, that masks do work.
    
    I would agree that the blue surgical masks don’t work, but that is not what you said.
    
    The N95 masks are really effective if you fit them properly and follow the manufacturer guidelines.

    My Doctor wanted me to mask up, him in full ppe gear, and see me in my car. Medical Center got the message real quick. After visiting the same place since 1973 they sort of changed their view.
    Doctor said, don’t worry, it is just the staff being careful.

    It’s the opposite here in Wellington. At least, down the Parliament end of town. People everywhere, wall to wall in the cafes for their morning coffees. And I would say most of them (more than half) are wearing masks, even in the rain this morning when it specifically says on the MOH mask website page that you don’t have to wear one in wet conditions. For me, I haven’t worn one for weeks on my hour each way commute but sometimes I am the only one on a crowded train like that. I also walk in and around the supermarket completely maskless and no one says a thing. If more people did this, perhaps some of the borderline sheeple would get the courage to do the same.

  I have been following politics since the late 1960s. IMHO there have been only one Government that made any real progress as regards economic and social matters. That was the 1984/87 Lange Government. The trio of Douglas Prebble and Caygill pulled the country back from the brink and set a path for the country to be the Switzerland of the South Pacific. Alas Lange was influenced and pulled back in the 1987/1990 Government with the result that the reforms stalled.
  Before and since we have suffered from a bunch of timid pollies scared to act and or influenced by various sectors the net result is a country and society that has never reached its full potential and doesnt look like reaching its full potential with the flaccid bunch we have now.

        Most riff-raff wouldn’t get through an electorate vote in FPP.
        
        MMP has provided:

        – the Member for Refugees, Palestinians and 16 year olds.

    And the government has to answer for the immense failure they are overseeing in not ensuring kids get an education – condemning them and NZ to future failure.   I went shopping today and found myself in a tiny local cafe being expected to wear a face mask whilst buying coffee beans, yet just three paces away a group of 10 OAPs were sitting or even standing at a bar leaner table chatting, laughing and generally enjoying life without the need for a single mask. New Zealand container ports are seriously inefficient, according to the World Bank.

The World Bank has been surveying the efficiency of 370 of the world’s major container ports, and the results are not good for New Zealand. Among others, Tauranga ranks about 325th and Auckland ranks about 350th. Even just among “Oceania”, Auckland is the worst-ranking facility. No New Zealand port looks efficient in this survey, the best being Wellington ranked #151 and still near the bottom half.

      I’m sure the Councils are the majority owner of POT through there nominee companies. POT structure with some private investment and being run like a public company works a lot better than Ports of Auckland and Lyttleton Port with their 100% Council ownership and higher level of council involvement. POA has been diabolical in recent years and Lyttleton Port until fairly recently was bad in many ways.

Day 4 with the Rona.

To date this has been a mild flu and now my blocked nose and cough are disappearing so effectively symptom-less.

In my 40-odd years I have had:
-Swine Flu
-Norovirus
-Camplabacta
-glandular fever
-Bangkok Belly

All of these are measurably worse that Kungflu. I’m sitting here today wondering why we locked down for this. Sure earlier strains might have been worse however this is a mild flu.

As for the ‘deaths’ if this thing kills you then your time on planet earth was well and truely up therefore calling Bullshit on the numbers peddled daily – these are people dying WITH Kungflu not because of it on the main.

Remember folks we fucked our economy and society
Beyond the point of recovery for a mild fucking flu.

  Had to leave work (Medical) due to pos test and rearrange entire week.
  Spent the afternoon catching up on Netflix and letters.
  Day 5 / Day 2 (Pos test) went MTB and beach walk.
  Day 6 / Day 3 (Pos test) went MTB and forest walk.
  No one in house is keeping distance (except wife, but almost sure that is her natural preference anyway).
  Day 7 / Day 4 (Pos test) – still testing Pos, can’t go back to work – CHCW can go back to work after 4 days if Neg.
  Day 8 / Day 5 (Pos test) – still testing Pos, can’t go to work, have run out of Netflix to watch, all letters up to date, cleaned house, washed cars, cleaned gutters, mowed lawns, fixed fence, patted cat, checked mail.

  Day 10 / Day 7 (Pos test) – still testing Pos. Feel fine, have had worse head colds in a normal winter (and worked through all of those).
  
  Anyone who believes the ‘Daily Testing’ numbers, has rocks for brain. I personally know of 17 who have tested Pos and have not recorded results (all in last month). I should have been back at work last week, with standard Infection Control protocols.
  This is a sick joke. It’s almost like those who make up these rules have a bottomless pit of money to pay themselves with…

I expect this issue to ramp up a notch this week, as Parliament resumes after a week’s break. Of course the PM won’t be here to answer aby questions; she meets Joe Biden on Wednesday New Zealand time, and won’t be back in the country until Thursday at the earliest, a day she is normally away from the House.

It’s telling though that Labour MP’s and/or activists haven’t rushed to Mahuta’s defence over the last few days. Normally the wagons are circled whenever a Labour Minister is under the pump, and those asking questions are attacked. There’s no sign of that happening in this case, so far, at least. Perhaps self-survival instincts are kicking in…

    I don’t know about the case you are referring to re the kids, I do know that many, many hundreds of fit and healthy young sports people have died “suddenly” in the last year or so. The numbers are 20 times the rate compared to the last 20 years. “died suddenly” has reached plague proportions in many areas of society, of course, nothing to do with the jabs. //

      All I know is that Gunn claimed two young kids collapsed and died shortly after being jabbed at a pharmacy somewhere in NZ. I have read in several places – not all MSM – that this simply didn’t happen; in other words she made it up.
      
      I would be very pleased to see any evidence one way or t’other.
      
      And to make my own position clear: 1) I don’t think what we have had stuck in our arms is a vaccine in the usual sense, but rather a treatment, and a not very effective one; 2) The “vaccine” clearly didn’t have anything like the degree of testing which would normally occur before it was used on humans; 3) There have been many verified cases of severe reaction, and even deaths, only some of which are being admitted by the establishment; 4) There is a great deal of spin both by the gummint and those on the other side such that it is very difficult to know the truth.

        DG – the fact you now know the vaccines were never properly tested, don’t work, are not “safe and effective”, and actually hurt and kill people means you at least understand which side’s narrative is complete lies. The other pov may have been embellished at times, but the vast majority of what all of the people named in that article stated has turned out to be truthful and honest.
        
        As for the Gunn story, I’ve been digging around and can’t find anything were she claimed kids died? I found a story that states she claimed 5 kids collapsed at a vax centre so is this what you were referring to? If it is, there certainly seems to be some disparity from the mainstream media claims and what Gunn said re the incident.
        Here are 2 articles, one from a mainstream media “fact checker”, the other from an independent media outlet. On the basis of what I read and watched I would say Gunn’s version is more plausible than the mainstream media version. She had heard that kids had collapsed and asked TV One reporters why they weren’t checking the story out. It sounds like the story may have been based on witnesses who saw one child collapse, but that was before the jab and not related to it. Easy to see how that could be misconstrued.
        
        Anyway, I’ll give you the links to both versions of the event and you can make your own mind up about what is plausible.
        I will say this, in the last year when I’ve come across and article that has been “fact checked” I generally find that the article was actually factually correct and the “fact checker” has done some serious mental gymnastics in their attempt to “debunk” the “misinformation”.
        Also the whole idea of jabbing children is not only idiotic, it is dangerous. The risks to children from covid are so minute, anyone doing so is guilty of child abuse and I don’t say that lightly. Anyone doing so to protect themselves or any other adult is even more guilty. Leave the bloody kids alone. Any adult who was conned into this is entitled to be very, very angry.

    Saw some data yesterday about cases of myocarditis in the US under 20s. 2019 and 2020 had 4 cases each. 2021 had well over 2000 cases. The safety signals have been around since before our rollout got into high gear.

      The myocarditis risk from the vaccine was recognised quite early on. The vaccine was never regarded as safe in the sense that it would not harm anyone. It was accepted that some would be harmed, potentially even die, but the justification was that more would be harmed by not taking the vaccine. This is where the inflated projections for how many would die without the vaccine and how effective the vaccine would be came into play. We sacrificed a few to the vaccine with the intention that overall less would die or be harmed. This is uncontroversial and is essentially the reasoning behind any mass vaccination, although much better data (and safety) is always required than was available with covid vaccines. There was never any benefit of vaccination to those without co-morbidities aged under 50. They were more likely to be harmed by the vaccine than benefit from it.

        Our NZ authorities including the medical profession totally disregarded their principal responsibilities to safeguard the patient. This was done in the expectation that the vaccine would confer some enduring immunity.
        Well not so. Amongst many, even our ‘Jab to the Max PM’ has openly demonstrated that the Pfizer vaccine does not offer any real world immunity.
        Those parroted big pharma efficacy claims are now known to be false, and so equally why should we take confidence in big pharma claims of vaccine safety?

How can their content officer Joanna Norris keep a straight face when she asserts that Stuff are “a nationwide media company that’s independently owned, for a nation of independent thinkers” (stop laughing!).

Norris notes that Stuff receives funding from “partners” and “advertisers” but of course there’s no mention of the PIJF and the damage it has done to the quality of investigative journalism in New Zealand.

Ms Norris – ever stopped to consider that taking money under the PIJF might actually be undermining the independence of your media company? I think there might be something in that, don’t you?

I missed a post yesterday about Countdown not providing samples (a sip if drink or a cube of salmon say) Fucking Worksafe! These bastards are in the business of putting businesses out of business.
Countdown prob not, but Worksafe interfering with their “policies” can easily send a small manufacturing company to the wall. Compliance costs are rediculous.
At the end, it boils down to one thing, and it goes right to the fucking top:

  Here is an example. Small business, cut the steel and weld it. Workshop had to have 8 fire extinguishers (steel must catch fire…) Say a small rag catches fire, you do not want an idiot blowing it all over the workshop with an extinguisher setting other things on fire. Put a plywood offcut over it – rag on fire goes out. How simple is that rather than complying with fucking Worksafe?

    This is also contrary to teh Building Code. We got rid of fire exiguishers and hose reels years ago in buildings as a mandatory requirement, since it is much better to have peopel outside and not playing firemen with a glorified garden hose.
    This is nto to say that having fire extinguishers is a bad idea – far from it. If you can’t deal with it with a 2.5 or 4kg exthinguisher, it is time to be somewhere else.
    To use an extinguisher properly requires training, as you only get a few seconds of squirt. Use the wrong one such as a water extinguisher or hose on an electrical or fat fire, and things get exciting.
    How come an organisation which is supposed to be about workplace safety requires them, yet another government department, responsible for fire safty doesn’t neeed them.

Threw me back 1 meter, the screwdriver went about 6 meters. That is a warning. We watched the first episode of ‘Master Chef NZ’ last night.
Back on screen after a 7 year absence.
Thort it was pretty average TBH. The judges all came across like a bunch of copycat tryhards compared to their Ozzy counterparts.

I’ve seen a few negative reviews doing the rounds this morning…..although none have been game enough to single out Nadia for criticism.

For some there is a problem pasting a webpage link into an email. You do not get the whole link, just the title. Seems it is a Microsoft Edge update that does this.
Open a page, click the 3 dots in the right top corner. Go down to settings and click. A new dropdown menu on the left, go down to share, copy, and paste.
Change from link to plain text. Tadaa!! It all works as it should.

Isn’t it an irony that of may 2022 over 1000 Kiwis have died of or with covid and with the exception of the grieving families most Kiwis are not concerned by it anymore?

Even the media are not having it as headline news anymore and our PM no longer gives special condolence speeches for the losses.

You wonder what all these lock downs and restrictions ever achieved in the first place other than causing pain and misery to many Nzers.

Just for something a little different:
Eighty years ago today, the 75 (NZ) Squadron took part in the RAF’s first ‘1,000 bomber’ raid, on Cologne, Germany.
Directed against overwhelmingly civilian targets, the raid was not markedly more successful in military terms than the notoriously ineffective early bombings of Germany in 1941, but did manage to kill 500 Germans and destroy 3,000 buildings, for the loss of 50 aircraft and about 40 crews.

    It wasn’t unfortunate. It was just one of hundreds of attacks on Cologne with the object of disrupting war industries and creating homelessness for Hitler to have to deal with. And the large number of simultaneous attackers was to reduce casualty percentages by overwhelming defenders compared with multiple attacks by smaller forces.

Authorities in China’s southern city of Shenzhen have drawn online derision over rules requiring Covid-19 tests for the deceased.

This came after a web user posted a screenshot of the “smart funeral” page in a Shenzhen Bureau of Civil Affairs app.
The page said applicants for cremation services were “required to provide proof of nucleic acid testing of the deceased, in addition to the death certificate and the notice of transporting of remains, if the deceased is from closed-off management areas, restrictive control areas and prevention areas”, referring to areas that have reported Covid-19 cases or places close by.

Communal land ownership continues to hold back Maori develop, a Red Radio article shows – but does not tell.

Borrowed finance builds homes, enterprises, industries. It always needs security – something that can be grabbed if the borrowers can’t meet repayments.

NZ came up with a part-solution for Maori that allows lending on the security of movable housing.

Someone, described at Red Radio as a “long form journalist” (hopefully, not meaning “prolix”), is described in the run-in to the article as finding out “how red tape and barriers at the bank” are stopping Maori building “papakāinga” (homes).

The writer quotes someone complains of double standards “when it comes to what is available to owners of Maori land compared to general title land.”

Another double standard might be the 2021 Budget providing $750 million over four years for Maori housing and infrastructure, plus $350 million from the $3.8 billion Housing Acceleration Fund.

Everywhere, borrowers accept they provide security for loans. In many Third World countries, development has been held back by communal land ownership, or lack of cadastral systems allowing land to be used for security.

Communal land ownership is a problem for Maori housing, and movable buildings provide a way around this. Borrowers won’t get the same choice of building style or size, and many lenders won’t be interested in the extra work of such loans.

Red Radio, soon, with State TV, will be part of a powerful merged Ardernist media provider. If it is going to campaign for security-free lending for Maori, this needs to be spelled out to voters in time for the election in 18 months.

So, the ‘accused’ murderer (who-can’t-be-named) of Tom Coombs in Mt Roskill last week, was ‘too ill’ to appear in court….and has been remanded to Auckland’s Mason Clinic.
The same secure psychiatric facility that houses the killer of beautiful mother of two Jo Pert…..but who was found ‘not-guilt’y by reason of insanity. Tevita Filo, was sane enough to drive from Mt Roskill to Remuera on the morning of 7 January 2016, and follow Jo on her morning run before stabbing her to death.

Mr Filo now has his own room, receives clean linen daily, 3 meals a day, along with regular Dialysis Treatment to keep him alive…. all at the Taxpayers expense.
Sounds like he’ll soon have a room-mate.

    The news report linked to refers to the killer both as Akshay Anand and as Akshay Anand Chand, which seems to have been his correct name.
    
    Chand would have been about 19 when he murdered Christie Marceau, at her home in Hillcrest, Auckland, 11 years ago.
    
    Both Christie and the police had opposed Chand being remanded on bail.
