Yesterday DPF posted that he was depressed that Trump will probably win the presidency in 2024 and he believes he should be in jail.

I grant that Trump can be boorish and narcissistic and will fire off some mean tweets.
However he is a patriot who genuinely wants to make his country great, hence MAGA. During his four years in office he presided over the lowest unemployment rate in decades, the stock market went up to record levels and business boomed. Real wages grew, the country became energy independent and he started no new wars.

Contrast with our beloved prime minister who is kind and speaks pleasantly and smiles nicely. During her term of office the economy has stagnated, the number on benefits is very high despite businesses crying out for workers and more expensive energy is now imported since oil and gas exploration was halted at her orders.

No one believes that NZ is going to become richer or more prosperous under this government, there is no aspiration of making NZ great again.

Instead we decline into a moribund crime ridden mediocrity with record house prices meaning no one can even afford to buy a house.

Trump if re elected would get the US economy moving again while our prime minister doesn’t even pretend to care about economic growth.

Trump has a vision for a growing prosperous America where everyone has the opportunity for a job and the chance to better themselves.

Our prime minister dreams of the socialist paradise of Venezuela and that’s where she intends to take us.

  Trump can be a little rough around the edges. He will get the economy up and running, get the US using their own fuel and selling it, bring back business (creates jobs)
  The welfare dependent left do not want this. The left also do not like his sometimes mean comments, it hurts their feelings.

        I was in Alaska 2015. I asked our host family people who did they think would win? This family is both res and blue. Father and Son said Donald Trump, the Dem supporters (Mum and Grandma) said the same – they were all resigned to it.
        I said – he is a business man, a property tycoon.
        They said “Just watch, Donald Trump will be the POTUS”
        That is when I took an interest in American Politics, I had not really bothered before.
        Well, I started watching the campaigns, the flags, the speeches. I soon realised that the Alaskans were spot on.

    We are at the beginning of a recession right now, just go out and do some hospo, restaurants are half empty, mates that are car salesman have been flat out with selling cars since after the first lockdown, well they say that sales have dried up, also we are open to travel overseas where snd when we want, there is a mass exodus of internal tourists, also 7000 more NZers have left NZ Han have returned, the country is closer to a recession every single loss that comes along, one great hint is, next election the overseas vote ain’t going left this time, firstly the vulgarity shown to returning NZers human rights, now disgruntled high skilled NZers baling, high inflation always leads to a recession, it’s how a country manages it, yet this Marxist regime wants to force further charges on us with employment tax, banking tax and further costs to climate change that wont make a scrap of difference

  I have to say I was very anti trump for a long time due to some of his disgusting personal attributes and comments. I wouldn’t want someone like that representing me. But you’re right, he actually did a good job in many ways. And Ardern is just vile for all her nice facade.

    Trump was and is a vote for and expression of a popular desire for systemic change. He failed to a large degree, but that is what he represents. He is therefore a bellwether.
    
    Things are going to get very bad all across the world, which means that more and more people will not care one iota about gender pronouns, minority rights, “hate speech” or how “kind” a politician is. The more uncomfortable they become, they will only care about whether they have a competent government who has their interests at heart, neither of which are attributes possessed by Biden’s admin, nor our current government, nor any of the alternatives. When the harsh reality hits, liberalism and its promised utopias will be finally discredited, and conservativism and national populism will be thrust to prominence, because they reflect deep realities. Delusions can only maintained while most people are relatively comfortable, and things have been getting more and more uncomfortable for years, despite the superficial facades.

Gosh, John McDermott, former deputy Governer and Chief Economist at the Reserve Bank has lashed the present leadership in a highly unusual move. Those guys are usually very circumspect and reserved.

He must consider things to be very bad to speak out. Things are going to get much worse and for longer than either the Res Bank or the Govt are claiming. Borrowers are going to get slammed. Low and fixed income earners are already hurting but it has only just started. What a mess.

  Monetary policy is interesting at moment. NZ heading into a soft period, maybe recession. There is inflation and RBNZ needs to raise interest rates. Declining economy with the clowns at RBNZ rising interest rates. Also they intend to shrink the money supply by selling down their balance sheet. (the opposite of printing) So double hit. Well done bozos.
  
  A recession would take care of inflation. NZ’s chicken shit debt, construction and traffic cone economy very vulnerable to interest rate rises.
  
  Maybe RBNZ actions to date mean a recession – probably not just yet.

  For alumni its like watching a dumpster fire. The current governor is a very pale shadow of his predecessors. Had the opportunity to sit nearby him and a friend in one of my favourite little haunts in Wellington (LBQ) a while back.
  
  Easy to tell why he is thought of as he is from that episode alone, let alone when you look at the quality of economist working at the RB these days. Time was the RB was the place where only the very best and very brightest economists could walk in the door.

  It appears the Aussies are going to elect a Labor government lead by Albo and the Mean Girls. This will be bad for NZ. Labor will plunge Oz into recession with its mad cap spending policies and as it is our second largest trading policy that will impact NZ big time adding to the recession NZ is facing.
  By next election Unions will be pressuring for inflation adjusted wage increases mortgage interest rates will be more than double the previous levels.
  Middle NZ will be squeezed and as always and in this case correctly the citizens will blame the Government and toss them out.

Congratulations to Brendon McCullum, appointed overnight as head coach of the England cricket team.

This is certainly a bold move from the England Cricket Board, and with Ben Stokes appointed as England’s test captain, things are going to get interesting. However it could just as easily backfire in spectacular fashion if McCullum and Stokes can’t bring their players around to a far more attacking mindset.

There are likely to be a few hiccups along the way, as there were when McCullum first captained New Zealand, most notably the innings defeat at Cape Town in January 2013, where New Zealand was bowled out for 45 in just 19.2 overs on the opening morning. I would suggest that English cricketing fans might not be quite so reticent in showing their dissatisfaction as Kiwi fans! Anyway, it adds more spice to the upcoming series in England, which should be a belter!

    He’s coached Kokata Knight Riders in the IPL, and coached the Trinbago Knight Riders to victory in the Caribbean Premier League in 2020. Doubtless he will have good specialist coaching assistance for the batsmen, bowlers and a fielding coach. Whether that will be enough remains to be seen.

  I’m with Micheal Vaughan, Stokes and McCullum are too similar as personalities and this has epic disaster written all over it, in the opinion of this English Cricket fan.
  
  Still, freeing up Joe Root to concentrate on his batting has the potential to mask a lot of other failings (but maybe not the inability to genuinely replace Anderson and Broad).

  The purpose of the order is ” to prevent, and limit the risk of, the outbreak or spread of COVID-19 by requiring certain work to be carried out by affected persons who are vaccinated and have received a booster dose.”
  Well that clearly didn’t work.
  
  And for vaccinated they define it as having taking all scheduled covid vaccines no mention of immunity. But how can you schedule a vaccine that medsafe will not fully approve?
  
  Compare that to the Health immunisation regulations 1995 law. Where they specifically link immunisation to the term vaccination. They define vaccinator as “any medical practitioner or other person who may lawfully administer to any child the vaccinations required to promote IMMUNITY against the diseases for the time being specified in the National Immunisation Schedule.”
  
  Vaccinations promote immunity. Covid vaccines do not.

  it’s called making an example of the rule breakers, regardless there were thousands in many professions breaking the rules as the rules weren’t logical to many. Many contradictions. This is Labour and the govt depts flexing their muscles with fines. Now NZ is in the hold they have to claw back the $$’s somehow. Perhaps these fines are a new kinda “tax”.

He has ruled out 3 waters, separatist services for a few, the rest he says he can not comment on, Findlayson apparently is doing work for clients, those clients could only be Iwi, give Luxon some respect that he has not given co governance any life as far as the Nats go.       Luxon is not asking what co-governance is, he’s asking what Liebour mean by co-governance, a very different question. With this he is giving Liebour rope to later hang them with.
      Keep in mind that Jacina’s favorite tactic is to hide behind words. If she doesn’t define co-governance it can mean anything she wants later, like: “We already have co-governance because me have Maori in parliament and at caucus” as opposed to 50/50 control.

        Yes. If they won’t define it, define it for them, and define it in the worst possible terms. Paint it as the worst idea imaginable, and then argue against that. Thus, “co-governance” is defeated in the public consciousness, no matter what Labour actually mean by the term. It is reasonable to suggest that a large majority do not want co-governance in any degree.
        
        The left do exactly this with the word “racism”, which they tacitly present as, basically, “being genocidal towards all non-Whites.” This is how they present the concept, because it scares people, but they actually think that racism is simply “accepting that there are differences between races,” which is an eminently reasonable and demonstrable viewpoint. However, they can’t win the anti-racism battle with such a benign definition, so they mischaracterise those who hold that view.

  Well, way past time we put that claim to the test. Make RNZ subscription only and let’s see how much the public actually value their offering.

        Finlayson did a great job for Ngai Tahu when he was their legal advocate. He got them a sweetheart deal with first rights to South Island State assets being sold – first rights in perpetuity, for ever!
        
        Later the Crown deal with Ngai Tahu was topped up with another $190 million. This was on “relativity” issues with settlements to other tribes.

  No, a President can not serve a third term whether the terms are consecutive or not. The 22nd Amendment of the United States Constitution enacted after Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected President for a fourth term, imposes a two-term limit on Presidential candidates and was established to formalize a tradition George Washington started by refusing to run for a third term in 1796.

One of the Blokes at bowls has a daughter in a posh apartment block in the city near The Pullman. Wednesday night there was a huge fight in the street outside 1.30a.m. and she called the police. They took her details and said they would get back to her and said they knew about it as others had called in the problem. They did not turn up for an HOUR In the meantime the tall white parking poles had been ripped out …….. The police did not get back to her. A ruckus again last night 3am apparently on the other side of the building. The building full of Cindyites now talking about getting security which their building and The Pullman could pay for…… The result of underpaid, undermanned police, kindness to the gangs and hoods etc in combination with weak sentencing I’m guessing.

  Many years back when I moonlighted as a barman a large brawl broke out in Vulcan Lane outside the premises after closing time. I called police and we watched fearfully through the windows as people smashed, bashed and kicked each other outside. About an hour later when it was all over and only a couple of bodies were left laying on the ground two coppers turned up. We opened the doors and talked to them noting that we had called over an hour ago and where had they been? The older cop asked how many there had been brawling. Told him 50 to 60 and he asked – so 30 against 30 then? I agreed and he asked – and how many of us do you see? Two I responded. Yes laddie he told me – so if we had hurried it would have changed to 60 against two. Why would we rush in to that? I agreed that was a fair question and offered them a beer.

    Bwhahaha, wise ole copper head, I must admit I have been to Vulcan lane several times over the years when visiting Auckland CBD, never seen trouble their when going to the Occidental, but thought the land would be a of being a scary place to be if all hell broke lose, last time we went over to the Queens Wharf, they have great music there and as we had been to the cure concert, we decided yo take it in, got there, bouncer came down the back and said you are not safe here, we said why, he pointed at the young Mordi at our bar leaner, I turned to them in front of the bouncer and asked the scariest young fella, are you happy for us old white pricks to be sitting here, he said yes, all hood boss, from then on I knew we were safe, and the bouncer was gobsmackrd, but the full was no set yo his word, and we left safely at 4.30 AM

Sooooo after 12 months of ignoring the elephant in the room economists and economic commentators have belatedly accepted we are headed for recession.

Even the moron-at-large at the Horrid, Corin’s demented brother is acknowledging it (though trying to spin it as a good thing – FMD). The game is up when bank economists start claiming it given in part they are paid to be optimistic about the economy.

What no-one is saying but they must know, is it isn’t just recession it is economic stagflation we are about to get. Inflation and supply-chain shortages are still getting worse and the Ukrainian War starts biting. Petroleum as a raw material has doubled in price for US-based suppliers. Nobody can be fu*ked supplying the asshole of the world from shipping companies to US/EU Multinationals that are looking to consolidate offices to Sydney/Melbourne.

As for the demented belief that Tourism will come back quickly belies the fact that of our three main tourist locations – Auckland CBD, Rotorua and Queenstown, 2 resemble downtown Mogadishu and the later is only half open like a modern day Ghost Town. Imagine the first tourist bus from California to Vegas that gets a live rendition of Once for Warriors or a Cruise Ship docking into Auckland that has to warn passengers than mask usage still applies if they want to shop.

Congratulations are in order to Poor Man’s Gordon Brown – he did it – he broke Boxer’s back and killed the economy. It’s a fair achievement and will cement Grunter’s legacy for years to come and make it easy for Mahuta or the Hallensteins’ sales assistant to roll him following a landslide defeat in 2023.

I think the best thing we can do is give him overwhelming support and build a momentum that secures a National government.

  Frankly, i’m sick of seeing women lie and lie and lie to get full custody of the kids, paid for by the ex husband working while they do everything they can to destroy the kids relationships with their fathers. In many cases the kids are collateral damage as they try to get back at the ex.
  
  As a women I’m disgusted at the behaviour of many women. Seems to me that this guy is building a relationship with his kids and teaching them some useful skills. If they did t want to go with him I can’t imagine he can wrangle 3 of them into the car using force each time.

The Herald pointedly and unashamedly takes side in the Peter Ellis case today by publishing, without qualification, an article by a woman telling what she believes happened to her as a pre-school age child in the Christchurch creche case.

The article doesn’t reveal whether she was one of those children who talked of secret tunnels and other bizarre and impossible events at the creche. The allegations included Satanic ritual abuse, and widened to fantastical tales of legal officials and police being involved.

It doesn’t mention that the Christchurch creche hysteria was one of a series of such cases in the Western world, or that interviewing very young children is highly controversial because it may influence their memory of events.

  I am not a lawyer but there are two issues at stake:
  * Clearing Ellis’ name for the sake of his family, friends and society at large.
  * That the system (cops, teachers, judiciary etc) learns from the episode so that such a travesty (assuming it is) is never repeated again.
  
  Young kids have fertile minds and cannot distinguish reality from their imagination. It is very easy to lead kids to believe they have experienced things they did not.

Simon Henry’s DGL listed on the Stock Exchange about the same time as My Food Bag, and he’s apologised for an ill-judged comment, offensive to some, that he made about the MYB promotion.

It featured Nadia Lim, popular TV chef and columnist, and Henry mentioned her ethnicity.

On Stuff, a reporter tries to corner Henry at his Auckland tennis club after he’s finished his exercise.

The heading over the report and video clip reads: “Watch: Simon Henry flees Nadia Lim questions after tennis session in Auckland.”

Flees? He walked away pointing out through the wire fence that the club was private.

My trusty old Oxford Dictionary’s primary meanings for “flee” are:

1. To run away from, or as from, danger.
2. To withdraw hastily.

Does Henry here look as though he is “fleeing” the reporter from Stuff?

While the comments by Simon Hendry about Nadia Lim were utterly stupid and arrogant and racist (I don’t agree they’re misogynistic as they were using her attractiveness to sell the company), I’ve not seen a lot of comment about his entirely accurate summation of what a horrible and greedy IPO the My Food Bag company did.

A major red flag about an IPO is what proportion of the new capital goes to the current shareholders (effectively paying them out) versus what proportion is going into the company. Something like 80% of the funds raised went to the then current shareholders. Red flag, neon flashing, alarm blaring level of alert. The current share price has shown this to be true. Nadia was a minority shareholder and Waterman (a private equity firm) who held the largest proportion of the shares probably drove the process and it’s likely she did not have the experience to understand what was occurring. But she still is the face of My Food Bag.

All that aside. It was a horrible IPO. It is now less than 1/2 the initial listing price. It has always been on a downward trend showing it was very overpriced and oversold. Simon Hendry’s company, even after the recent drop because of his behaviour, has still more than doubled in price since listing. He may be a d**k but his company is a more honest one than My Food Bag based on returns to investors. I would rather invest in DGL than My Food Bag.

The Finns are as good as the Irish at holding grudges… maybe better; given that Finland has only been a country since the 15th century (and most of that time spent ruled by Russia or Sweden), and there are still grudges being written about in poetry that date 1000 years before that (more on Finnish poetry later).
    
    I have given many people advice about traveling in Scandanavia over the years (most people not Scandinavian include Finland in Scandinavia); having been myself several times.
    
    The first bit of advice I always give is “Never drink with a Finn, unless you feel like getting in a friendly knife fight. No seriously, there will be a knife fight, or at the very least a rock or iceball fight, but it will be friendly. You’ll only be cut up a little bit and then everyone will go back and drink some more… Unless you’re a Russian in which case you’ll end up wearing your testicles as earrings”.

  That is exactly what Gregg Abbott and other Republicans are suggesting.
  
  They can’t say things and then pretend there is no step two in the process.
  
  To start with, the “American babies before brown ones” is a piece of real gutter racism.
  
  And then there is the nature of the original claim which is from a State Republican Rep and not proven at all.
  
  All in all, a really great example in shooting yourself in the face for the sake of hardline purity.

It’s a case of “American babies before what are, by definition, non-American babies.” Imagine an American politician advocating for Americans in favour of illegal immigrants. Headlines: “Covid 19 Omicron outbreak: 29 Covid-related deaths, 7441 cases”

First paragraph: “There are 7441 new Covid cases in the community today and 29 virus-related deaths reported.”

Reading the headlines and confirming by reading the first paragraph would leave you with the distinct impression that today there were new 7441 cases and 29 heaths.

But, reading right to the bottom we actually find the truth:
“The ministry said the 29 deaths reported today included 14 people who had died in the previous two days, and an additional 15 people who died between March 24 and May 7.”

Ok, so maybe 7 deaths today then. And some of the deaths we’ve been lead to believe happened in the last 24 hours actually happened in March – more than a Month and a half ago!

C’mon people this is pure scaremongering fraud!

What on earth is a “whenua”?

Why do they do this? I have no idea what a “whenua” is, and I strongly suspect that the vast majority of people who still watch One News don’t know either. I honestly don’t know why they persist.
