Imagine if Trump went to shake hands with thin air then got lost, claimed he was a professor at a university and thought Melania was vice president.
This all happened to Biden this week as his approval rating sits at 33%. When he gets retired out for declining mental health in the next few months and the even more unpopular and unbelievably less articulate Harris takes over it will be interesting to see the media coverage.

I remember when

NZ Windfarms is planning to replace its 92 twin-bladed turbines each 35 metres tall, with three-bladed turbines standing up to four times the height.
Apparently the Covid-19 recovery legislation allows them to apply to fast-track consents.
It would be an environment disaster if it wasn’t ‘Green.’

  The old Windflow Technologies two-bladed turbines have never delivered on their expected potential. And they are only 500kW each, which is too small and inefficient today. So replacing them with modern multi-MW class turbines is a sensible decision.

    The ones up at Waipipi in South Taranaki are an impressive site, and they’ve become a feature of the landscape. In the right weather conditions, you can see them from Whanganui. The west coast of the North Island certainly gets its share of wind, and quite a few other areas’ shares as well, so it makes sense to harness it.

      When you look at the generation data from the Waipipi windmills, there are a lot of times they are running at less than 5% load. This is no different to the other windfarms.
      When the wind drops a little lower than that, they often suck power from the grid to keep them turning to stop false brineeling of the faces. So just because they are turning doesn’t mean they are doing any good.

    The only sensible thing to do with these monstrously inefficient white elephants is to dismantle them and fill in the holes. They generate very little of value, mince rare and native birds like there’s no tomorrow, and rely on government subsidies to make their owners rich and the rest of us marginally poorer.

    Now if only the rabid Greens in NZ could watch this and comprehend it.
    Nuclear NZ would be a good thing for NZ, but it will take 2 or 3 generations to get the propaganda out of their heads. Protesters wearing gas masks etc. Those masks do not stop radiation, but they instil FEAR!
    What do we do with the nuclear waste? Go watch the video again. The waste is not the size of an Antonov an-225 Mriya, did you see the rubik cube?

    Simon – How does Twitter monetise its platform? There’s no advertising? The more people who use it, the more hardware needed – and it needs a lot because of the nature of having instant updates on threads each with thousands following simultaneously. There are well known bloggers alleging that the platform is built on government servers and networks. Does this mean that the intelligence network is behind it and this is what they are trying to hide? I’m sure Musk knows and he’s playing a long game.

  I’m struggling to keep up with the contortionists on kiwiblog over whether Musk is a goodie or baddie.
  
  When selling electric cars (ie green so woke) he seemed to be a baddie on this blog – seem to recall lots of outrage over dodgy business practices, inability to deliver, massive use of subsidies to make tesla viable. Then something changed, still not quite sure what changed, and he is now seen as some kind of goodie sticking it to the man, despite still selling electric cars…….and very much being, erm, well the man.
  
  This is despite him clearly using his profile to make some cash on pretty blatant ‘pump and dump’ trades. Suspect if he’d done this while still being considered ‘woke’ it would be bad, but as he seems to now be viewed positively on this blog, that activity all seems to be ok.
  
  Seems pretty clear that he is a massive tool. A super rich tool, but a tool nonetheless.
  
  Seems to me that the positive view seems to be formed because a billionaire who has notoriously thin skin for criticism is somehow going to emerge as a defender of free speech by reforming twitter?
  
  Yep. Sure that will work out well. What could possibly go wrong.

CNN call the Tuttle Twins indoctrination, so you can’t get a better recommendation than that.
I found yesterday five of the books are available as cartoons on YouTube, my kids love them and have watched them back to back.

        This suggests to me that they are therefore at least 50% maori blood.
        For someone to be at least 50% maori blood, one of their parents must be a full-blooded maori.
        Are there any full-blooded maori in NZ ?
        To be a full-blooded maori now means that there must have been nobody other than full-blooded maori in the whole family tree.
        Ever.
        As soon as some other race is introduced into the family tree the dilution begins.
        Common sense dictates that if the percentage of maori blood is less than that of other races then you are “another race”, not a “maori”.
        Of course common sense is not as profitable.

      He’s doing some amazing work. A friend had a tour of the Dunedin facility recently when PGA Tour golf was on, and saw the way they apply the tracking technology to a real-time broadcast coming in from the States. It’s absolutely brilliant technology, and the fact that they can do it from New Zealand to anywhere in the world is just a little bit mind-blowing.

  Too right! Joyce is bang on the money with this analysis:
  
  It is very easy to fall down a rabbit hole trying to work out what this Government really thinks. They have become very adept at bare-faced assertions that black is white, way in excess of other recent governments. The best way to determine what they actually believe is to examine their actions.
  
  A government facing the risk of uncontrolled inflation and a hard economic landing seriously would take two pretty simple but important immediate steps. They would limit their own contribution to price inflation by controlling their expenditure, particularly their operating spending, and they would use policy changes to limit the risk of further wage inflation (that is, wage increases without accompanying productivity increases).
  
  There is an opportunity to take the first step immediately. The Government’s 2022 Budget is being handed down in a month’s time on May 19. Grant Robertson has previously signalled a whopping $6 billion in extra annual spending in this year’s Budget, which is truly “fuel on the fire” territory. He should call a press conference next week and say that, in light of the inflationary situation, he is cutting that right back to something much more normal. Inflationary expectations would reduce overnight.
  
  The second step is also easily within the Government’s grasp, although perhaps not their ideology. They should immediately reverse their increasingly restrictive labour market policies which are excessively constraining labour supply and fuelling wage inflation.
  
  Their attempts to micro-manage our labour supply have become laughable anyway. In the past week they have announced absurdly specific levels of migrant workers in politically-favoured industries that have proven adept enough at whispering in the relevant minister’s ear. We are apparently to be allowed to import 275 skifield workers, 500 meat processing workers, 300 forestry workers and 280 people who work in wood processing. Never mind the command economy overtones and that previous attempts to import specific numbers of teachers and ICU nurses fell flat.

  Somehow, I doubt Robertson will curtail his spending plans. His willingness to throw money around is like a sugar rush, and he has become addicted to it.

I see house prices are finally falling. During covid House prices went up 40 percent with no population gain and a shut down economy due to supply. However the last 2 years supply has ramped up causing prices to fall due to supply. A massive house price drop won’t cause a recession if its due to supply. It only will cause a recession if house price drops are due to banks making it harder to access credit. But credit has zero to do with house prices. Leverage has zero to do with house prices. Its all and only about supply. Because supply is causing prices to fall there will be no recession or drop in unemployment due to supply. Phew great news.

Just think if population gain has continued during covid house prices would have doubled. But thanks to supply they have dropped. Just like gala apples become cheap in April… Due to supply.

  Where I live there has been a lot of new house building for years, but most involve demolition of existing modest dwellings ( beach houses ) and their replacement with large expensive homes.
  I suspect that a lot of these are family-owned properties, passed-down and now ripe for redevelopment.
  So “new builds” are not always for new owners.

  I suspect in many western countries the abolition of the death penalty was done at the behest of the left leaning political establishment ( be that politicians , academics , the Media pardy ,churches , trades unions , student unions etc) and that was done generally in the face of an appetite for real justice from the general public , who don’t want their lives or society ruined by crime.
  
  In the case of France , it would be a de facto if not de jure Frexit cos the EU specifically bans the death penalty for its member states .
  
  Mass abortion is ok though . Strange values.

    In most western countries the death penalty is controversial because Christian beliefs say that every life is valuable, and they stress forgiveness for sins/crimes.
    
    Both sides of the political landscape then twist themselves up about those principles. The left is okay with abortion, but not with the death penalty. The right is against abortion, but happy with the death penalty. Neither stance is consistent.

      Orthodox Christian belief is that the innocent should be protected and that the guilty should receive proportionate justice according to their crime.
      Divine forgiveness and vicarious sacrifice does not displace community order, though the victims of crime may choose to forgive and ask that the guilty do not bear the full punishment for their crimes.

      I don’t support the death penalty primarily because I do not trust the state to justly discharge its monopolistic right to violence. I also believe every life is precious, no matter if it is a nasty adult human or innocent pre-born human. I’m comfortable that my stance is consistent.

  Death penalty is too damned expensive due to all the checks and balances and endless appeals etc that excite a certain sort of leftie. Better to ship them off to a low cost 3rd world prison for the rest of their lives instead. Should only cost a couple of thousand a year to keep em in Prison in Rwanda till they’re dead for example.
  
  UK’s new system for dealing with illegal migrants (shipping them to Rwanda, similar to Aussie Manu island approach) is brilliant. Bet it stops the flow almost immediately.

Cries I wasn’t quick enough to switch off National radio after the midday news and here we go – Julian Wilcox starts interviewing the Exec Director for Iwi/Maori of 3 waters to tell us what 3 waters is all about. When she started off with “govt has undertaken an intensive engagement process over the past 2 years” and we are looking at the transitioning of assets and aspirations, I felt lucky I hadn’t had lunch. How hard is it for many people to understand the problem here?
That it is absolutely wrong for publicly-owned assets to be handed over to maori, who make up about 15% of New Zealand’s population.
Take the maori control / ownership out of the equation and there may be more support for rationalising and streamlining the so-called “3-Waters” issue.
