What an extraordinary woman.

She broke through barriers with hard work, intelligence, and good humor.

No whining about how life is unfair. Or that special rules should be made for women.

Sad. However, I don’t know what is worse: her needless death in a far-off place on the other side of the world from her home, fighting a group that posed no obvious threat to her or her country, for opaque reasons that make no sense in terms of any imminent geopolitical interest of any relevance to the American people; or the fact that her death has seemingly been turned into an opportunity to sell more Black Rifle coffee.

  If anyone, particularly the downtickers, can describe to me the legitimate security interest affecting the people of America (who the US government purportedly represents) that serves as the justification for US forces being in Syria, or anywhere else in the Middle East for that matter, then I’d love to hear it. The political situation in Syria is irrelevant to the American on the street, so clearly the US regime isn’t acting in the interest of Joe Public. That has to be the implication, doesn’t it?
  
  If they seriously wanted to stop a threat to America from Islamic terrorists, a logical place to start would be their open immigration policy that favours third world people. Slogans like “fighting them over there so we don’t have to fight them over here” are just empty propaganda that don’t stand up to scrutiny when compared to actions. Pointless military action on the other side of the world certainly benefits the arms industry and a few other prominent lobby groups in Washington, but it ultimately didn’t benefit this lady or her family.

  Aptly named you are, Ruins. It must be miserable being you. Shannon Kent died doing what she wanted to be doing, and for reasons she believed were worthwhile. I reckon she stood against evil. And I reckon she was doing something good to combat evil. Were that there were more like her that are willing and able to do the same. And on the Black Rifle coffee, did you read the article? She and her husband have kids.

    Well actually this is an old story – it supposedly happened three years ago, the linked article is ancient in internet terms and the heroine of the tale was in a country where she wasn’t supposed to be and acting in violation of international law.
    
    Given what has occurred since and the issues we face today we might wonder why this was worthy of our consideration at this time

Incredible woman.

I personally much appreciate it when the USA acts as the global policeman.

The USA’s interventions aren’t perfect, by any means. However, they beat the alternative. USA isolationism is typically very bad for the world, in my view.

Socialists argue that the high moral ground is to wash your hands of any issue that occurs outside of your border, in the style of Pontius Pilate, and this somehow makes them superior. It doesn’t.

“International law” seems to be an excuse to do nothing. There has never been a legal military conflict in history. Unanimity can never be achieved.

When the socialist chickens come home roost – for example, when countries are inundated with refugees from conflicts that they turned a blind eye to – they complain bitterly.

It’s all part of the “Fortress” mentality of socialists. It’s a world that has selfishness right at the centre.

I think we will mourn USA engagement in the world, if they choose isolationism, particularly if the grotesque Chinese Communist Party assumes the traditional USA role.

I don’t miss Saddam, Gaddafi or bin Laden. Good riddance to them all.

  Ah, the “interventionist or isolationist” false dichotomy. Are China or Russia isolationist because they don’t have 200+ military bases around the world? Is it “good riddance” to all the brown people killed when Iraq was invaded or all the black people sold into slavery after Libya collapsed?

People should also read up on Gary Sinise (of Lieutenant Dan fame) re his tireless work supporting US veterans and families of soldiers KIA. He is some sort of bloke.

What an incredible specimen she was. Fluent in 7 languages must be a near record for someone who has not lived in Europe.

I got a nice chuckle to see her perpetuating the gender stereotype that even the highest-functioning women still can’t back into a parking space properly.

  People that can do that are rare Anthony. My wife and I have a close friend that is fluent in English, Italian, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese and can hold a respectable conversation in Norwegian. We met in Portugal for a couple of weeks, she understood some Portuguese because of her Spanish, but she came away being pitch perfect (we were told so by an old cliff fisherman that she had a conversation with!). Apparently Portuguese has more vowels than Spanish, and they sound completely different!

White female celebrated for killing brown people. Such progress! I look forward to the first white transgendered non-binary solider honoured and lauded for killing cisgendered heteronormative assigned-male-at-birth people of colour. They was just warring for peace, like fucking for virginity.
