Yet another example of an out of control authoritarian government.

I think that they are a long way from finished.

As the poll numbers plumet they will get increasingly desperate, that will make them very dangerous.

The communism by stealth will continue until we are a one party state.

No need for polls and elections then.

  I have never rated Adern for anything meaningful like leadership or intelligence etc…..however one thing I think she does possess is the ability to be very dangerous to our country and democracy…..her rolling of eyes and rubbing hands when delightfully explaining how she planned two tiers of society looked a little psychotic to me….

The Three Waters initiative has all the potential to get very nasty very quickly for this government, and coming on top of the nation’s growing frustration with the Covid lockdowns, Mahuta’s stubborn determination to ram this project through is the last thing Jacinda needs.

And it’s not just National and ACT supports who oppose this. I have spoken with many Labour and Green supporters and many of them have also expressed serious concerns about Three Waters.

I’m wondering what the PM’s political advisers are telling her about this. Surely they see the enormous danger for both the PM and her government if this Three Waters project continues.

  Its why Mahuta was given the job.
  1. Shield Ardern – so if it all goes south, Mahuta will be thrown under the bus.
  2. She is Maori, so any objections can be deemed racist.
  3. Mahuta is the Minister for Local Governemnt. So that would entail protecting, enhancing, and streamlining local government.
  
  But what Three Waters is doing, is plundering local council assets, owned by the ratepayers and giving the middle finger to the councils.
  
  Mahuta is as unsuitable as Minister of Local Governmentas would be appointing a fox the Minister if Hen Houses.

    It isn’t just about plundering local council assets – despicable though that is. It’s about anointing yet another cadre of light-brown hucksters, shysters and charlatans and giving them 50% of the control of those assets.
    
    DPF has reported on the almost-byzantine means of electing or appointing the people that will have control over this, and the tl;dr version is that the people who actually own these assets (rate-payers) will be so far removed from the process it may as well be taking place on Mars.

  They think spinning out the Covid fear for long enough will see them through until the next election.
  It is a win/win situation for them.
  They are delighted to keep the fear going, aided by their paid for “scientific advisors” and media, while at the same time pushing through huge, controversial legislative changes under the Covid radar.
  And – for many of our easily manipulated, complacent citizens, the three waters changes “don’t affect me”.

  Many think it is a bout clean water, and who doesn’t want that? Many are nto aware of the Maori takeover of the assets, using taxpayers moeny to pay a pittnace for the taxpayers and ratepayers own assets.

  We’ve had some very good reporters who have been unafraid in the face of being cancelled and excoriated, to do their job properly.
  Unlike the rest of the sycophantic ‘media’ who spend their time kowtowing for a hand out.
  
  The Wairarapa Times-Age is one of the last bastions of fearless journalism left, and it should be very proud of its journalists and its ethical integrity continuing to maintain a true and honourable Fourth Estate in the face of authoritarianism.

  Even former Labour party MPs in local council are opposed openly to 3 waters.
  It seems that even regional media can put aside their fawning obligations to the centre in favour of the local flavour.
  
  Note the example is regional media, not the national media. National media is still almost silent on details like iwi boundaries and the race-based panels of 3 waters – yet make sure to slip in a reference to Havelock North water issues into almost every article (but not that that contamination issue already lead to huge effort and investment in that particular council).
  
  I am sure you are aware that the majority of journalists do identify as ‘left’ based on surveys of their political beliefs, and also that the public interest funding ($55 million) has Treaty principle/Maori interest clauses attached?
  
  And you do of course realise that people can hold more than one idea at a time, or more than a single thing be true at the same time?

The fact that a news outlet publishes an article like this, reflects a growing level of disillusionment with the fairy tale that had been spun around Miss Ardern and her caucus by the news media.

    This is the second time within this post that you’ve raised this matter. (As I keep reading down the page maybe I’ll find a third and fourth…) I have looked up the Local Democracy Reporting (LDR), and do not understand the point you are making. Please could you elaborate? At the moment it appears you’re trying to distract from the main issue.
    
    The website says it is about reporting on local issues eg councils, DHBs etc. “The brief is to report on the decision-making process: what decisions are made in the public’s name and how are they arrived at; what evidence is presented to the councils, etc. It also means going out and talking to the people affected and sharing their stories and perspectives.”

    Even the South Island owned free newspaper, the Star, the biggest paper in Christchurch, advertised recently for a “local democracy” reporter in North Canterbury.
    
    The handouts are State corruption whether the takers toe the line or not.
    
    Hooray for the Wairarapa Times-Age for remaining fiercely independent for now. Sooner or later, the paymasters will wield the whip. Then the newspaper can be a true hero by telling its readers this and rejecting further subsidies.
    
    Incidentally, has the Wairarapa Times-Age taken a position on Treaty issues? On school-history curriculum revision?

And here is a very big, bold idea from Mark Hanson, posted on the NZ Centre for Political Research site. It has a big advantage in being up front from – and on – Day One, not the creeping underhand changes we have see from the current government.

An Act of Parliament to repeal Jacinda Arden’s un-democratic laws, regulations, and appointments.

” There are two democratic ways of dealing with this.

First, is to draw up a list of amendments to every relevant law or regulation in need of repealing. This, however, would take years to achieve and would not restore democracy on a timely basis.

Secondly, the most time efficient and democratic approach is to draw up one Repealing Act of Parliament to repeal every law and regulation she has placed by law, before the next election. In addition, all persons who have been appointed under laws and regulations should be removed from office the day the repealing legislation is passed into law.

This legislation would be introduced into Parliament on day one of the new session before the Queen’s speech. It would receive three readings on day one of the new Parliament and then be taken to the Governor General that same day to sign into law (including the removal from office all persons appointed by such laws etc.).

  No candidate or party should simply expect to turn up and win an electorate seat. The Wairarapa electorate hasn’t always been a National Party seat. Georgina Beyer won two terms in 1999 and 2002. The fact that Labour has won the seat recently could reflect a number of things, including the state of the National Party.

      Assuming the ‘absenteeism’ claims have any substance this would have been a misjudgment on the part of the National Party activists in Wairarapa. They selected him as the National electorate candidate, not Head Office.
      There are people who consider Wairarapa their home even though they spend three to four nights a week in Wellington (eg students and employees with Wellington jobs). This matter arose some years back when votes of such people were challenged because it was considered they should have been enrolled in a Wellington electorate.

  Also, the gentrification of several parts the Wairarapa has seen soft, wealthy socialists, celebrity types and paid for media influencers colonise that province.

  After 30 years of MMP a lot of older people still don’t understand how MMP works and they voted Labour to give a mandate hoping it would keep out the Greens, who in a rural area, would destroy this place.
  
  The only Labour Party member who doesn’t like MMP is Helen Clark and she fought against it in 1991 by putting in place not one but two referendum votes. Unfortunately it didn’t work.
  
  SOME Wairarapa people made a tactical error, misunderstanding that Labour was always going to invite the Greens to the table, but you can be sure they won’t make it again.
  
  So stop blaming the election result on a group of about 15-20,000 voters. It’s peanuts.

It is not an issue I have followed closely. As I understand it there are differing degrees of under performance by local authorities in managing water infrastructure. Which is clearly a problem. So we then need to look at the causes and possible solutions.

I cant by bothered checking but I doubt that you would find developed nation where water articulation and waste water systems are managed by national government. For obvious reasons.

More pragmatically, everything this government touches fails. So it is literally possible they could spend billions, cause chaos, and we end up with water quality at a higher cost.

    So why does Wellington Council waste so money? Their transport policy is idiotic. They are building a convention centre. They have invested in an airport.
    
    If the water in Wellington is wrecked it is down to council stupidity.
    
    How about the government legislate performance standards for the councils and sack them if they fail.
    
    All developed countries have water systems. What makes New Zealand unique that they should be run by the central government? Especially this one that has a ZERO track record on successful implementation.
    
    I challenge anyone to convince me that this government can achieve better water quality at lower cost than the current model.

    It is completely irrelevant. The water systems are council owned assets. If the government thinks they are poorly run, they could offer principles an templates as to how it could be improved.
    
    But this Government, is even less accountable than local councils, so they have no principles to offer. Three Waters is just another example of overt Totalitarianism.

They tried to ‘amend’ local elections but were caught out. (And that’s when an Opposition is most useful). I have a chilling feeling that they will exploit covid-fear to somehow affect the timing and results of the General Election.

For example, will you be allowed to vote if you are not ‘double-vaxed with boosters’ (Do you want fries with that?).

what if, like In Israel, the Government suddenly declare all the vaxed are no longer vaxed, because the old stuff has ‘worn off’?

Not to worry! we could simply use an electronic system like in the USA. Lots of people here would support that.

I know there re those who will say this is tin-foil hat stuff, but when you have a Government which produces a Public Health Act and has to be ‘reminded’ to add reference to the Bill of Rights into it (a rumour is that section (7a) has been rescinded)

People wake up to what is going on here and quickly.

And by ‘people’ I mean you.

  What polling has indicated is that while Labour will lose some of its vote at the next election, those that abandon them will likely vote Greens. So no change of direction or policy will result from this change in party loyalty. And likely, because Labour will still have more votes than Greens, they will remain the governing party.
  Unfortunately, things have to get a lot. lot worse in NZ before the voting majority see any value in National/ACT/Conservative coalition.

These public utilities are local utilities paid for or responsible to be paid for out of local sources–mainly ratepayers who are still on the hook for long term council borrowing. Because the people have committed to pay they expect a say, not a Wellington Controller.

What do Maori have to do with this? They have been playing their Te Ao card about water for a while. This scam has been underway from at least early 2017. The Labour, greenish, PR plotters fed the hints.

Water in NZ is as clean as is reasonable. Any aberrations will be transitory. NZedders don’t usually bathe in rural streams and farmers value their long term assets so don’t attempt to spoil their environment. Councils will all naturally differ as to the present state of their services–some cities are over 100 years old.

This mixing comparisons of local sewerage, drinking water, farm run offs and natural waterways is plain nonsense. Its only purpose is as an excuse for activist Maoris to try to wrongly seize power and assets. The Maori Elites hope to become even more so.

Maori have already been adequately paid for any possible grievance they may have had over having their lives saved by the Treaty. Now they want to steal it back. If so, we want our money back too.

Why is ~~govt~~ HM Ardern allowing this to happen?

    Yep, Control water and you have control over the population along with a heap of their electricity generation, farm production (irrigation and stock water), several large industries which use water extensively (meat works, orchard and vegetable washing and grading, brewing etc – yes they ARE coming for your beer as well, wine, etc etc) , virtually the whole economy.
    You would need to be certifiably insane to agree to putting that much power into that little number of hands.

  Kev – the 3 waters fulfills two purposes for the labour government. Socialism, the centralisation of everything, thereby giving more control to the central government. Secondly a desire to rewrite history by giving Maori the assets of Western civilisation.

    Watch out the scheme is probably more about land than water. The ancient linkage of Maori to land and water is being invoked as a driving background motive. The foreground is the rise of a new activist class seeking to establish their mana now that many of the seniors have passed on.

  Why is Ardern allowing it to happen? Can I suggest it might be that she thinks she is cleverer than Mahuta? Just as the Councils will retain nominal “ownership” in the new regime but will have absolutely no say, the iwi will gain 50% ownership but will they have any say? Is this a clever way to meet the demand for Maori ownership of the water without actually giving them any real power? It depends on the fine print – will the new authorities have rating powers and rely on rates for financing, in which case it gives the iwi huge power (but also unpopularity down the track), or will they rely largely on government funding, in which case the real power will be with Ardern’s socialist government.

  Whoever owns them, I doubt regional newspapers are going to feel particularly favourably about Jacinda at the moment. We found out last week that Jacinda will only answer questions from media accredited with Parliament’s press gallery. A PM visiting a town is something regional newspapers would want to report on, and they’ve basically been told she won’t answer questions from regional newspapers.

    In my neck of the woods it seems that the two main locals are more than happy to support Jacinda since coming under Ferald ownership. Any “balance” type articles are now carefully categorized as “premium”.

Graham’s doing the work that the ‘regular’ media should be doing but are not.
I see The Southland Times – often a source of independent writing down the years and you still see it sometimes under the Sinead regime – has an editorial calling Mahuta’s assertion that she consulted ‘arrant nonsense’.

Give a Man a Fish

Water is essential for life.
Water is the most precious global resource. All life forms are dependent on it.
Currently, in NZ we have a voting system whereby we all get an equal vote on water through our local councils.
Is it essential we all get a fair and equal vote on water? In a proper democracy, that’s an obvious yes.
But we don’t live in a proper democracy. The Labour government strongly disagree and say New Zealanders don’t deserve equal votes on water.
Labour aim to pass their divisive 3 Waters reforms into law in December 2021.
3 Waters introduces a voting system based on race:
There are 2 different race groups:
1) Maori humans (12.5% of adult population)
2) All other humans (87.5% of adult population)
Maori humans with their 12.5% get 50% of the total votes (weighting of vote 50/12.5 =4.0)
Other humans with their 87.5% get the other 50% of total votes (weighting of vote 50/87.5 = 0.57)
Everyone still gets a vote under 3 Waters. That’s nice.
The kicker is that the strength of your vote depends on what type of human you are: I use points to illustrate the strength of your vote. The higher your points, the stronger your vote.
Every person gets the base rate of 100 points for a vote but then that base rate is multiplied by your race weighting to determine the strength of your vote.
1 Maori human’s vote is worth = 400 points (100 points * 4.0 race weighting)
1 Other human’s vote is worth = 57 points (100 points * 0.57 race weighting)
This policy is fantastic for Maori humans like Nanaia Mahuta (The Minister in charge of 3 waters) and Labour’s Maori caucus as their individual vote will be 7 times stronger than other humans (400/57). A Maori opinion regardless of merit will carry 7 times the weight of another human’s opinion. They clearly aren’t worried at all about the screaming conflict of interest here and their sense of entitlement and greed know no bounds.
What about you! Are you worth 57 or 400 points? Will you settle for 57 points if that applies to you?
Labour call 3 Waters enlightened policy.
Let’s be honest, it’s the complete opposite of enlightened policy.
3 Waters is a malignantly hostile act by a corrupt government against the best interests of 87.5% of adult New Zealanders who don’t call themselves Maori.
The proposed 3 Waters voting system is a disgusting real-life and real-time example of “Racial discrimination” 100% backed by Labour.
Protesting against this abomination of a law is something I will do in the near future. For my own integrity, I can’t stand by much longer without trying to stop the demise of our country from being a proud democracy with a constitution and rule of law that used to validate all New Zealanders to quickly becoming a totalitarian tin-pot state whose laws advantage Maori at the expense of other citizens on every issue.
I know I am not alone. I strongly believe that one person with courage holding up a protest sign against 3 waters, will soon turn into half a dozen and before you know it there will be a wall of protestors at your side. This would be repeated across the country.
If we protest, we shine light on the government’s rotten agenda. If we shine enough light on 3 Waters we start the debate and if we start the debate we will win because the government’s racist position on 3 waters is indefensible.
Who’s in for a bit of protesting?

  Hi #Give a Man a Fish sadly any protest against the proposals will be denounced as RACIST and won’t happen. More importantly and I know this probably hasn’t been fully considered yet is how the new three waters business structures will actually be implemented and work. There are no doubt a number of questions many have like:
  Will it ever be implemented,
  Will my rates go down,
  Will I get a separate water bill from the new organisation for each of the services I use,
  Will council workforces downsize to reflect the reduced responsibilities,
  Will we see three new HQs built and new CEOs and the staff currently involved in managing the assets transferred into the new structures or something else based on BAU under another name..

    I understand any protests will immediately be called racist, which is ironic when they are protesting against a racist voting system.
    Courage is the ingredient needed to take the hits and to keep saying the truth. Here’s some examples of Protest banners against 3 Waters:
    “STOP 3 Waters b/c of racist voting system”
    “STOP 3 Waters b/c it cheats NZers of EQUAL say on WATER.
    “STOP 3 Waters b/c 85% of citizens get inferior say on WATER
    “LABOUR want Maori to control everyone’s WATER. STOP THEM”
    I believe strongly that each person is as good as the next, so will never submit to unfair racist voting systems.
    Three waters has been dressed by the Labour Government as one issue, but is obviously two very separate issues.
    Issue 1: Water infrastructure needs upgrading and financing. Should the assets remain with local councils or be centralised. Fine, debate the best way to fix it and then do it. No big deal. It is important to be done properly, but it can be done.
    Issue 2: Giving Maori tribal elites 50% control over everyone’s water needs. A big deal. An obviously wrong, unfair and divisive move.

  I thought Regional Councils were set up to manage environmental issues (eg managing water and rivers etc based on water catchment areas).
  This to take away that “specialist” area of governance from other elected councils – except for District Councils.
  What the heck have Regional Councils been doing re water all these years – with significant rate payer funding? They must be for the chop, surely?
  Once Three Waters is ratified, next focus will be on getting rid of a range of other democratically elected local bodies.
  The path for this was being paved by the furtive attempt to interfere with local elections due next year.
  Look out for the rhetoric to start from the communists about how we don’t need all these local councils and they should only be four governing all NZ.

Yeah right. Just like centralising housing construction with Kiwibuild lead to more houses.

Wellington is where efficiency goes to die under many layers of bureaucracy, no transparency and incompetent leadership.

Regional News … the last bastion of honest media in NZ? Whilst the headline is an honest attempt at “shock media”, perhaps the message would be better served, said less shrilly.

I sent off a missive FB comment to my local mayor asking him to describe his “take on the political diversity of the working committee” … seems he doesn’t indulge in FB these days. (Which is a common theme with our current political scene – block out all detractors) Our (We “the electorate”) government is behaving as if they no longer wish to govern. It gives me to wonder if, behind closed doors, there is a conflict between the Liberals and the old-style unionist factions. Perhaps it explains that grumpy look Little has of late …?
