The Government Places a urgent order for 3 million syringes and insists it has enough, we have Tova O’Brien from Newshub sensationalizing the Latest Newshub Poll to fit her narrative.
The Government has requested a quote for 6 million syringes for Covd-19 vaccine with the requirement they arrive by the end of the month.
The Ministry said it had already ordered enough syringes for the entire vaccine rollout, but confirmed that the particular combination of needle and syringe meant Justice doses extracted from each vial of vaccine , when the Ministry’s guidelines say that vaccinators should expect to get six doses from each vial.
Does this show a Government in control
when you get to the largest group number of people that have to be vaccinated a d you find out that your not getting the number of vaccines that your supposed to out of a vial after you already have used the vaccine on 20% of the population.
Again it appears that Jacinda Ardern with her Health Ministry have fuck up and been found wanting again, with the Ministry opeingthe process for quotes last Thursday and has set a deadline for August 11th, meaning whoever’s successful will have just weeks to deliver millions of syringes.

  Hang on – what are the implications of getting fewer doses out of a vial?
  If the effective dose is, for example, 0.5 ml. and the patient is given 0.6ml this would be 0.1 ml over-dose.
  What is the risk of complications from 20% over-dose? Or more?
  This sort of question arises from any introduction of a new ‘drug’.
  Of course, the ‘loss’ could be due to wastage by the vaccinating staff, which raises questions about their competence . . . .
  Then we could start discussing the actual syringes, the accuracy of their volume markings, needle gauges and lengths.
  The MOH should have kept its mouth shut, lol.

Perhaps forget politicking the issue, just investifgate “ghost homes” to start with.

Who was the New Zealand property investor who said they didn’t rent their houses while they accrue value because tenants just spoil the carpets?

  The census figures do not reflect ‘Ghost houses’ per se. It is usual for there to be a significant number of empty houses on Census night as the question is about who is actually in the house on a given night. This is what it is a measure of and not a true unoccupied house measure. Causes range from people being away on holiday to moving house and it being temporarily being vacant to, yes, being kept deliberately unoccupied for capital gain.
  
  If you check the Census percentages (I did) you will see that Auckland has a relatively low percentage of vacant properties compared to other centres. This indicates that the prevalence of ‘Ghost houses’ is likely rather low and not an issue.
  
  This is an anti property investor meme that is just completely wrong. I do not own investment property BTW.

  Authorities checked the electricity usage of Auckland homes , and found there were about 6000 that had 6 months of zero or close to zero electricity usage. This is probably a more realistic figure.

  One wonders how much of this is being replicated? If you own a house as an asset outright, then why rent it out? If by not renting and holding on to a house, you help increase demand by reducing supply, you directly contribute to your own, tax free investment growth by driving up prices.

    Outspoken economist Gareth Morgan is one of them. He told Three’s The Nation programme that he owns six houses and he doesn’t rent them out because tenants “make the carpets dirty”. Good grief. First-world problems.

      From one who has, DON’T unless you are prepared to:
      1. Chase renters for the rent, and
      2. Renovate your house between tenants.
      
      Now, there are even more regulations on landlords and I certainly won’t go through that process.

        Nickc2. For four years in a row to limit damage [ I thought] I gave reduced rental for a contracted one year term .
        Tenants will sign anything and then tell you it means nothing. If you take them on they will go to the Tenancy tribunal, lie, and have you fined. The tenancy tribunals are advocates for tenants.
        It would cost me three or four thousand dollars direct repairs and 6 weeks work between each tenant. I am selling at the end of the year. Renting is the worst and hardest way to not make money for a lot of work, that I ever could have imagined.

      Don’t believe me? Take a good look at the Residential Tenancies Act, associated fines and increasingly complex regulations protecting tenants.

        Some where in the North Island a rat ran out of the flax bush and into the home . The tenant complained to the Tenancy tribunal and the owner was fined $2000. They do fine heavily , and they always accept the tenants word. The tenancy tribunals are criminally partisan.

  If you want to own a house and keep it empty I guess that is your right. Something like $15k/year of rates insurance and (maybe a bit of) maintenance. No income to pay it from and the costs are not tax-deductible.

      Not necessarily. Owners may be located elsewhere, or waiting for tradies, or for family members to score a spot in MIQ. Lots of reasons and sensible owners will make sure the reasons are well documented.

  I am confused regarding Paul Hunt’s stance on housing here.

  I thought Human Rights were agreements that would ensure humans were NOT stopped from getting something or doing something.
  
  I.e.. people had a “right” to obtain housing for themselves, but NOT the right to be “given” housing. When did the interpretation change from a right “not to be stopped” from creating or owning housing to be “given” housing ?
  
  I think the interpretation of these treaties gets progressively extended while the original intent might not have been that at all. It is the busybodies constantly overreaching and consolidating their powers.
  
  With such ever increasing powers they are taking more and more control over the lives (you will bake a cake for a gay wedding even if your religion says no), rights (expropriate land based on declaring significant natural areas SNAs) and pockets (we will unevenly tax you or take over your house to house tenants) of a larger and larger section of the society whether they be farmers, landlords, achievers etc.
  
  Over time, these treaties and declarations etc have been used to give power to minorities over the majority.
  
  Democracy is being demolished. The so called “tyranny of the majority” is being replaced by the “tyranny of the minority” by agitating for special treatment and obtaining it. It is becoming a dictatorship of the people who claim to speak on behalf of the minority hiding behind the cloak of looking after the minority.

  Here’s an idea. Since this question of ghost homes seems to come up regularly in connection with the census, why not add a question in the census asking about it?
  IIRC, there is a census form for the dwelling as well as the people in it. So the dwelling form simply needs to ask “Is this dwelling empty on census night?” and “If yes, please indicate why: usual residents away short term/long term; property undergoing renovations; vacant awaiting sale/new tenants”.
  It might help to establish the “usual” rate of vacancy and therefore what is unusual and worthy of attention.

  I, personally; would like to thank every landlord that ever rented to me and various sets of Uni Student friends (usually 4 of us at a time) 1995 – 2001. The houses were often old, un-insulated villas from early century. After the halls, I lived in Grafton, Parnell and Remuera (<– latter was hilarious it was a former US Consuls residence with zero upgrades etc since the late 70s). My favourite one was 4 doors down from the Med School in Grafton (easy for getting to work, esp. at 4AM when the -80 Freezer went down and saving the samples), and every winter my shoes went mouldy ;-). The landlord used to drop a letter int he box every couple of weeks to "let us know she was coming to do the garden". Precious. We did have the odd party, LOL Jermaine Clements lived in a villa backing on to our back yard, their keg parties on the deck were legendary, they'd stand on the deck and call out for pot luck and BYOB… but there were never holes in the walls, soiled (more than a bit) carpets etc. Back then Uni students were considered high risk, I can only imagine the risk from the undesirables now… So yo all you landlords that take a punt on a bunch of uni students, thanks ok.

    Yes, realistically as we open our economy up Covid, in whatever variant is then-prevalent, will become endemic and many people will have it. If we assume 70% vaccination and about a 0.2% fatality rate among the unvaccinated and 0.01% among the vaccinated that’s something like 3,500 deaths.
    
    Also, realistically, we will have at least 1 or 2 rounds of vaccine booster shots in 2022 and 2023. Actually not everyone will need these, but the difficulty is you can’t practically discern who does and who doesn’t and so it’s easier to give the boosters to everyone.
    
    Ultimately we will have a second generation of Covid vaccines that confer long-lasting protection (like, at least 5 years). I’m interested to see if the Novavax vaccine is the first of these.

A patient, a senior official for Fiji’s United Nations (UN) Development Programme, carrying the highly infectious Delta variant is now being treated at Auckland’s Middlemore Hospital.
A senior intensive care clinician wants the New Zealand public to know the risks associated with the patient’s transfer, saying “Our ICU teams are not all immunised. Neither are their families … There is a risk that this disease will spread in our community.”
The clinician wants the best for the covid-positive worker, but is aggrieved by the ministry’s decision to let the patient into the country while infectious with the Delta variant.

1 – Why are “ICU teams are not all immunised”? I guess ‘immunised’ means ‘vaccinated’, but then that apparently does not eliminate all virus transfer. So, can they actually handle local covid hospitalisations, apart from any flown in from overseas?
2 – Was the Prime Minister involved in approval for Fiji’s UN patient to be flown in, and if not who approved it?

    Furthermore, the covid “protocols” in place now mean ICU staff are being sent home if they have any “symptoms” (eg runny nose or cough), even if those symptoms are so minor they would not normally mean a sick day, even if the symptoms were present prior to the fijian arriving, even if the person is vaccinated, and even if they have returned a negative test result.
    At this rate, there will be noone left to actually staff the ICU by the end of the week, because minor symptoms are common at this time of year (esp when the department has had large numbers of RSV cases etc).
    
    The govt meanwhile has had over a year to sort out extra capacity in the form of bedspaces, nurses etc, but nothing has been built, and experienced nurses are leaving faster than they can be replaced (to the extant that even if there were more beds, they would be able to staff them).

    I used to work in a Renal Unit. From time to time there would be requests for people with Acute Renal Failure to be transferred from one or another Island in the Pacific. Auckland was the gateway. If correctly treated, with dialysis if necessary, Chronic Renal Failure can be avoided.
    However, patients could only be accepted if there was room for them in the treatment programme. Sometimes there wasn’t any room, and at others it might be available within a day or two, or maybe at another centre which could provide staff and dialysis services.
    The directors of the Renal Units were the ones who decided on the degree of urgency. There may well have been valid reasons for not initially accepting a patient, such as existing co-morbidities, or pressure on NZ facilities. An older person with pre-existing medical conditions would usually give way to a younger person with none.
    But politicians had no input whatsoever.

Who the hell gave Paul Hunt the right to tell the world he is establishing a Human Rights Enquiry in the “Housing Crisis” (RNZ Morning Report 2/08/2021)? With him citing that adequate housing is a human right.

Housing may be a “human right” because some fool may have signed a UN declaration, or put it in NZ law, but it isn’t. Housing / or shelter is a human need. If it is a right, how soon can we expect the govt to start building soviet style slum dwellings for each of us, paid for by the taxpayers of NZ?

    I have no idea where you got that definition of human rights from, but the way you have applied it is frankly idiotic. We quite obviously don’t all “inherently” have housing, let alone adequate housing.
    
    The issue here is rather that some people see a human right, not as something which the Govenment cannot take away, but something which the Government has a duty to ensure. For them, identifying adequate housing as a human right creates a duty on the Government to provide housing and to make existing housing adequate.

        The problem with defining as a human right something that we don’t actually inherently have (like housing), is that what we don’t inherently have doesn’t magically appear just because we need it or want it. It requires effort and resources to procure and these have to come from human endeavours.
        
        So if housing is defined as a “right” the question becomes, by whose endeavours should it be provided? The answer must be either the endeavours of the one who needs it, or the endeavours of others.
        
        If the answer is others, then you enter the territory of why that should be. What are the duties of others to the one and are there duties of the one to the others?

It is being reported once again that the number of homes for sale has plummeted. While at the same time sale prices have shot up and seems like plenty of buyers in most locations. Numerous yoy examples given in the linked article, but the longer trend can be even more dramatic –

“At its peak in December 2010, Northland had over 4600 properties available to buy. Now it has just 470, a drop of 90 per cent in nine years,” Williams said.

Doesn’t that seem counterintuitive? Normally good prices encourage owners to sell, so why aren’t they?

    Apparently over 600,000 rentals in the country. Yet only a tiny number of homes for sale. Not many of the 600,000 are rentals then, even though the regulations are increasingly costly in terms of money, hassles and risks.
    
    Landlords sucking it all up, increasing the rent, being super careful about new tenants or leaving vacant, and waiting out the bright line period so they keep the gains and don’t have to pay a yuge amount of tax upon sale? If your rentals have made a mill plus in paper gains over the last few years why would you pay 39% to the government?

  A reason, bright line test… there is a 10 year rolling window of artificially reduced supply.
  
  The biggest reason is limited supply ….but, it is difficult to build at scale because of skyrocketing construction costs and ridiculously high infrastructure and compliance costs.
  
  Given NZ is operating at full capacity, labour and materials will have to come from overseas. Do it like Dubai! We’ll plan it locally, but the work is done by foreign labour.
  
  And , I understand we export a lot of building timber…why is that? If we are short here, why not just pay export prices to keep it local?

  Around here there continues to be a steady stream of houses sold at exorbitant prices, plus any number of new houses being built.

  Just sold a rental in palmerston north. Very much the low end of the market at mid 500’s!. Cross lease, 3 bed and carport. Sunny, good neighborhood tidy house all insulated etc and dry.
  
  Only had 10 groups through 3 open homes, managed to get 1 offer (which is all you need of course) but it was hardly a bidding war. Not a single investor interested.
  
  Went to a first home buyer so now my good tenants are homeless.
  
  Suprising the lack of interest, the agent said they were getting loads of people through the 8-900k places and still multi offers.
  
  Seems the low end of the market is going stale without investors and first home buyers setting their sights a bit higher?
  
  We only sold to release the capital gain and reduce our overall risk if the whole thing goes tits up

        BUT no student loans because they both left school and went to work plus online course in evenings and weekends in one case, trades foundation course plus apprenticeships (2) in the other.

    This whole “far right” thing is all bullshit. The emerging choices for Government in New Zealand are quite different. New Zealand is failing on multiple fronts. Look at the education disaster. The growing underclass of welfare beneficiaries. The housing affordability disaster. I could go on and on.
    
    All these problems can be addressed but it will take a very different government. One that has rational policies and critically competent people to deliver. There are probably some National MPs who can do this but I don’t know if there are enough. I do know that it will take a new generation of competent people. Brook van Valdon is a great example.   The people she was apologising to about being arrested were criminals unlawfully hiding out in NZ. Also, many would have been breaking the terms of their agreements with their home countries. They were needed there.

Experimental Pfizer “vaccine”: Experts warn of refraining from exercise due to heart inflammation.

Last month the FDA added a warning label to the Covid “vaccine” produced by Pfizer about cases of heart inflammation in adolescents and young adults.

Now experts warn against undertaking any strenuous exercising due to heart inflammation concerns. Researchers found that both inflammation of the heart muscle, known as myocarditis, and inflammation of the heart’s fluid-filled sac, known as pericarditis, have occurred particularly in men under 40 following their second dose.

It has led experts to warn people not to exercise in the 48 hours following their second dose of the Pfizer jab. People with pre-existing heart conditions are especially vulnerable.

“Vaccinated individuals should be advised to seek immediate medical attention should they experience new onset of chest pain, shortness of breath or symptoms of arrhythmia.”

The experimental Covid “vaccine” adverse side effects vary from blood clots, Guillain-Barre Syndrome (Bell’s Palsy) and anaphylaxis.

Note that Pfizer will not have a clear idea of what the true safety and efficacy of their experimental “vaccine” until 2023.

So do make sure to have a good talk with your doctor before deciding if the experimental “vaccine” is actually the rational choice for you personally ?‍⚕️

  I was an “overstayer” for years in Thailand back last century so I can see their point.
  Everybody, including Thai Immigration, knew what was going on, but our being there kept an office going and employed a bunch of Thais.
  Only Kiwis could do it because we got a three month tourist visa stamp coming in at the airport.
  Then one Friday when I was back in NZ Immigration raided the office, rounded up about 4-5 Kiwis and demands a bribe of about $1000 each or they’d be off to prison.
  They had to scratch around for the money while these guys hung around.
  After that they had about a month to organise work permits before forking out for another bribe.
  Getting a work permit isn’t easy. You need a grasping lawyer. Especially if you haven’t done it before.

  This came out at least 8 months ago with the Pfeizer vials having a Harder cap and normal needles where chipping upon extracting the vaccine. I’m guessung due to the thicker seal due to Cold Chain requirements.
  I mean seriously this was months ago, Along with the statement they can get 6 jabs as opposed to 5 per vial.

  Instead of costing, say, $30 per jab it now costs $36.
  
  Instead of using 5 million doses we use 6 million (or whatever). That’s another 1 M doses that could have been given to brown people in poor nations.

  Not defending anyone here Maggy but at that time, most of the overstayers were employed and the prime reason the crackdown was cancelled was that NZ industry would have ground to a halt without them.
  
  Representations were made by both the Employers Federation and the Manufacturers Association to Government so the amnestys started.
  
  Unfortunately for the Pacific Islands it is usually their best and brightest that come here rather than stay home and build their own nation.

  The Maori and Pacific Island population may have less genetically inherited resistance to these viruses, given they were isolated from the rest of the world until recently.
  They are also disproportionately likely to live in overcrowded homes, work in jobs which expose them more, have health issues that make them more vulnerable (like high BMI), have issues trusting the authorities and be reluctant to seek medical help.
  The idea of vaccinating them early is twofold – they don’t get avoidably sick and our hospitals don’t get overloaded with patients.

Misinformation in the media

Over the weekend the Minister of Health has made and repeated comments that NZNO came to the Government with the latest NZNO/DHB MECA proposal which members chose not to ratify.

This is not the case. NZNO was asked for its views by the Government on how to address members’ concerns. The Government is the funder of the DHBs and has the ability to address these concerns, so of course we spoke with them. We are making every effort to reach an acceptable deal for members.

The offer that came through from the DHBs after the discussion with the Government was different to the advice we gave, and particularly different regarding our advice on DHB accountability for unsafe staffing.

If NZNO had been in control of the DHBs’ proposal it wouldn’t have taken 14 months and would have been a lot better!

Our response

Our public health system is under pressure and NZNO members are taking a stand for the future of our professions. We have responded to these claims in media interviews, but have chosen not to be drawn into a public spat which distracts from the real issues.

We will continue to highlight the key issues of pay that values our work; and DHB accountability for unsafe staffing. We will not be distracted or divided by any attempts to undermine us.

  NZNO is possibly the most useless union out there, despite collecting what must be in excess of $20M in dues per annum.
  They have effectively a monopoly on nurses, yet their threats to strike are largely empty, because of how they time their negotiations and strikes, meaning all the govt/dhbs have to do to cancel a strike is to draw out their response close enough to the strike, then present an offer with minimal change from the last, then the dhbs can claim they dont have enough remaining time to organise around the imminent strike.
  
  If NZNO wants to get real, they need to stipulate that strikes will go ahead if the govt/dhbs do not give them what their members want by X date, with the deadline for a response being 2 weeks before X (one week to allow members to vote online, and one week for dhbs to arrange continuity of life preserving services).

However, don’t be surprised if his boss (Cindy) appears on her TV channel with her concerned face painted on and delivers an apology to all business owners throughout NZ for any inconvenience caused by her ministers during her Govt’s reign.
  That should solve the problem.

  The correct syringes for the Pfizer vaccine, as per Pfizer’s specifications and recommendations, were ordered at the same time as the Pfizer vaccine was. Pfizer commit that you should get 5 doses per vial, but there’s a bit of a nudge nudge wink wink that it is possible to get 6 if you’re careful/clever.
  
  It’s possible that since then *better* syringes have been developed … can’t say, but that seems the most rational explanation for this news story.

Received two pamphlets from Labour in the letterbox over the weekend, first for quite some time.

Both were A4 pages folded into 3. Interestingly one had a label on the bottom of the front fold saying ‘Open Here’. Umm, there is only one way to open it, but perhaps the designers thought people might not open it at all if they were not told what to do.

But when that person starts bringing it into the glare of the Olympics, that’s different. I will not be watching what I consider to be deeply unfair to the real women who have worked so hard to get to where they are.

This isn’t about being inclusive, or being accepting, it’s about what’s FAIR. And this isn’t.

Why are Australian state and international borders closed.
In New Zealand our last 1055 cases of covid have resulted in 1 (one) death.
From the 1st April to 30 June Australia had 1307 cases with again 1 (one) death.
Even during the latest outbreaks they have only had 14 deaths during the month of July and never more than 2 in any day.
So for 14 deaths martial law is imposed on most of the 25.82 million Australians.
Did anyone ever foresee that possibility even two years ago.
If two deaths a day from an infectious disease can result in the present situation – what does the future hold.

    Occasionally it’s nice for boys and girls to be able to enjoy themselves surrounded by like-minded peers of their own sex, without the distraction of the opposite sex. This isn’t being discriminatory, or sexist; it is a simple realisation of the fact that boys and girls are different. One isn’t better or superior to the other – just different.

    Testosterone Level permitted for trans females at Olympics: 5nmoles/litre.

She thinks opening up the borders to skilled staff will change that impression, i nearly died laughing. We have doctors leaving the country because they can’t gain citizenship and she is banging on about the borders while letting ISIS terrorists into the country.

  There’s already a little mine starting out applying new gender norms to everything. eg computer design & programming is racist/sexist because computer chips are designed by white males, using white male ideas, for the benefit of white males to the exclusion of others (ignoring that that the majority of chip designers are now Asian).

Chinese Nuclear Plant Needs Shutting Down.

EDF, the French company that co-owns the Taishan Nuclear power plant in China, has called for the plant to be shut down following a build up of inert gasses. However, its partner in the venture, China General Nuclear Power Group, has said it meets safety standards and should remain in operation. – 748,000 Kiwis now fully vaccinated (17.8% of 16+ pop)
– 1.12m have had first doses (28.5%)
– Compares to 18.9% of 16+ pop fully vaccinated in Australia, and 40.1% with first dose”

So Morrison gave an apology for the state of the Aussie rollout and they’re still ahead of NZ ?

  They are using two vaccines (Pfizer & Astra-Zeneca), with the AZ one locally manufactured in Melbourne.
  
  We are only using one vaccine of the four we have available (well, two good ones already with a third coming soon).
  
  If we had been prepared to include AZ in our programme we would have vaccinated a lot more people by now … simply by having a greater amount of vaccine available from two suppliers.

  By the end of this month the plan is to jab another 1.1mil arms according to the MoH web site.
  That’s 5.5mil min by the end of the year plus 1.86mil done already. Total over 7mil or 3.5mil people out of 4.2mil eligible. That’s more than 83%; which I would suggest is an unobtainable number considering the reticence of some people.

    Why do you expect it to stay at 1.1 million jabs per month for the rest of the year? The clearly stated plan and forecast is that it keeps accelerating.
    
    That said … the plan is based on 2x doses for 4 million adults, so about 8 million jabs/doses. But realistically something like 20% of the eligible people will decline to take the vaccine. To own the woke libs. So that means there’ll likely only be about 6.5 million jabs/doses done.

Our household watches TVOne while the games are on and suffer the ads and promos. My God, how do regular local TV viewers put up with the dross displayed? TV2 viewers must have an IQ in the low 80s because what is shown must be mind numbing for us internet streaming viewers.

IMO, there is no reason for previously infected people to be vaccinated. Serology should be used to track Ab status and if and when they wane, maybe then.

NZ is obviously different but we are in the shit when we have no way out other than poorly designed vaccines which only generate Abs to the spike, when a deactivated virus would be a better candidate. Hopefully trials with deactivated whole COVID will get EUA sooner rather than later.

Just had a call from a mate who was coming around for dinner on Wednesday for dinner with his daughter who is over here from Queensland.

AirNZ have pulled the plug on her flight home so she had to leave today or wait until the end of September. What has gone wrong with this world. There is no current covid outbreak in NZ apart from the Fiji national but Air NZ has decided to become fuckwits … Plus they also refused refunds on flights … arseholes …
