Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has denied Winston Peters’ claim the controversial He Puapua report was “deliberately” withheld from New Zealand First.
Ardern dismissed Peters’ claims on Monday.
“That is certainly not my recollection because I usually will recall those papers where they’ve come through and for any given reason they’ve been unable to progress,” Ardern told reporters.
“That’s not my recollection for that paper at all.”

Which of course goes no way to explaining why Winston Peters, then Deputy Prime Minister, states he did not see the the report, nor any of his Cabinet Ministers.
Try again, Jacinda.

  Last week I heard Jeff Kennett on Melbourne radio claim that Dan Andrews had a taxpayer funded staff of 40 people, each with around 70 different fake names, who’s sole function is to absolutely slam any criticism of his government on social media.
  I wondered if this is happening here. She has increased the size of her PR staff and obviously relies on the message more than any action.
  So out of curiosity I have made a habit of drilling down into the commentators profiles that reply to the MPs I follow with obvious bullshit. And, not surprisingly there are a multitude with so obvious fake profiles. And further they seem to follow the opposition MP’s and none of the governments.
  Are these people government employees? And we paying them? Would we know if they were given most of our media are too busy finding fault with National?
  Goebel’s National Ministry for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda making a comeback?

    There are numerous govt shills posting comments on anything to do with property these days. They are seen regularly on Interest.co.nz and Facebook Property investors chat group. Pretty easy to spot. They push the Govt agenda, and rarely stick around to argue the point.   “Charters says a narrative has emerged around He Puapua that it’s essentially government policy being introduced on the sly – which is wholly inaccurate.
  “It’s not government policy … that’s not our role. We’re an independent working group, to provide ideas and advice.
  “What’s really important, and what was important to us, was that these are ideas, that we think would realise the Declaration – but none of this can happen until you have Māori support, and a national conversation about this.
  “It’s not for an independent working group to decide concretely what this looks like.”
  The government should shoulder some blame for this misrepresentation too, Charters says.
  It had the chance to proactively release the report – and while the Covid-19 pandemic understandably caused a lot of attention and resource to be diverted, much of the farrago could have been avoided by doing so.
  She says fears that He Puapua advocates for a zero-sum shifting of power from Pakeha to Māori are misplaced.
  “The report – and also us, as authors – were really motivated by unity, rather than division. By this idea that to have a successful and flourishing Aotearoa New Zealand, we need to recognise our founding constitutional document, and that Māori are failing in this system.
  “And, until there’s equality for Māori, it will be very difficult to have a unified state.”
  Some of the original designs were put in place in 2010 by JK and Pita Sharples. Judith was busy at the time fighting a losing battle against the Bain case compensation and turning down the Watson RPOM which might be why she doesn’t “remember.”:

    No, it is rather … being USED to introduce government policy on the sly.
    
    Te Ao Maori (Maori “world view”, which is now pushed along with the Treaty), expresses the vaunted values of waiora (wellbeing), manaakitanga (care and respect), kaitiakitanga (stewardship/guardianship), whanaungatanga (relationships and connectedness).
    
    These values seem to be totally ignored, for just one example, by Marama Davidson laying into Collins over her speaking snub at Waitangi, saying Collins “does not have the cultural expertise to be able to acknowledge that wāhine Māori need to lead the discussion about what our roles are and where we put our voices” with Davidson displaying her own abuse of manaakitanga (care and respect) and whanaungatanga (relationships and connectedness).
    
    But that is just perhaps a minor offence compared to the same values breached in the case of Winston and his Cabinet colleagues being denied any pre-Election awareness of the “He Puapua” report – thus not only breaking those Te Ao Maori values, but also breaching the conditions of the Coalition Agreement between Labour and New Zealand First.
    
    Documents like the Tax Working Group, and Climate Change Commission now also highlight Te Ao Maori – although as Shane Jones coins the expression, it is “stretching the language” (and a lot else).
    But, in the behaviour toward Zealand First, each of these “revitalised” values is violated – waiora, manaakitanga, kaitiakitanga, and whanaungatanga – in a cultural appropriation for Labour to hide agendas behind, and a serious perversion of Maori values.
    
    Contrary to the origin of “He Puapua”, this mis-appropriation by Labour is surely an offence against the purpose of the UN Declaration of Indigenous People’s Rights, and a few other UN principles.

    The principles are not only being introduced “on the sly”, the NZ news media have been bribed and coerced into their active promotion by this totalitarian government:
    They must “actively promote the principles of Partnership, Participation and Protection under Te Tiriti o Waitangi acknowledging Maori as a Te Tiriti partner”. All applicants must show a “clear and obvious” commitment to the Treaty and te reo; no exceptions.

    In this case, actual history probably indicates the truth.
    Had he known, Winston, who you may rightly describe as “a reprobate, a charlatan, and renowned for making grandiose and false claims”, would have hammered He Puapua as hard as he could in his Election campaign, to his obvious advantage among in the voters who give him their vote to use as post-Election leverage … when he can manage it.

    One of the things he often does is use a provable “fact”as a lever for publicity, the BS follows latter.
    
    I suspect with the Te poo ya report. He will be able to provide information from his NZF colleagues that they never received the report.
    
    Jacinda will be able to say she doesnt recall because the report would have been in Mahutas hands and “”officially”” not given to the PM.

      I would accept this, but I suppose if saying “I don’t know/don’t recall” is damaging, then the other option is: “I will make enquiries and get back to you”.
      
      Nobody would be expected to know everything at once, but at the same time if commenting on a well publicised claim by Winston then a bit of homework (or getting an energetic underling to investigate) means you can say: “Winston got the memo, here is the meeting date & minutes were we recorded this”.
      If he never did, and you know it….& if you don’t want to admit Winston was never informed, then ….”not in my recollection” is a way to make a form of denial without actually risking a lie being exposed.

  Before I go back to happiness, our strategy is exactly the same as most countries. One dose then another dose withing 6 weeks. New Zealand had 6.9 percent fully vaccinated. Panama is way ahead of New Zealand and they have a malaria and non existent roads to contend with. And they were not at the front of the queue.
  
  What appears to happen is that her minders give her “lines” to defend herself and she rote learns them, for example “New Zealand counts the numbers different”. Then it falls to pieces in delivery. ?

      Some very interesting numbers buried in the detail of the spreadsheet, the one I found most interesting being only 1,125,540 doses only received as of last Tuesday (excluding the 49,00 delivered that day).
      
      So 5 months after start of rollout ~ 10% of what is meant to be received eventually has arrived!! You could say that my confidence level in getting the second jab as per “plan” is not high.

      Getting a bit sick of this superficial Prime Minister deflecting all questions with ignorant answers.

RNZ reports that , “Doctors spreading misinformation about Covid-19 may lose their job – Medical Council”

The article then says “Kate Hannah, who researches misinformation at the University of Auckland, said anyone could be sucked in – including highly educated people such as doctors..”
So what are the qualifications of Kate Hannah who researches the undefined misinformation and is the arbiter of truth and is smarter than the highly educated doctors who are being sucked in? It’s not given in the article.
“Kate Hannah has a Masters of Arts in American 19th Century Cultural History, and has worked as a writer, editor, historical consultant, and in research analysis and development. She is interested in science communication, public understanding of science, and science’s understanding of the public. Her research interests span truama and memory, science and society, and depictions of gender in the history of science” She is the “Deputy Director, Equity and Diversity” Her profile says “Basically, she’s a historian in a Physics department”

So she appears to have an arts degree in history and her specialty is the history of science. It is not a science or medical degree. But she is the expert used by RNZ to claim that doctors are being “sucked in”.

Blatant propaganda, suppressing information, and censuring doctors with a different point of view is not the way to reassure people who are cautious about the new technology in this vaccine.

This is the motivation in nearly every case of censorship: those in power silence those asking uncomfortable questions, questions that usually cannot be answered.   There are 16,000 registered doctors in NZ.
  They are relied on by their patients for professional advice on all sorts of stuff.
  If they dish out advice contrary to best practice I expect they would need to have a pretty good explanation otherwise they’ll lose their license.

    MCos, My doctor has his own opinions on medications and will discontinue any item that he feels is not needed, or will get extra blood tests to see if he can reduce the strength. As he often says, ‘every drug has a side effect, however minimal’ and doesn’t take into account any reward he may get for prescribing. He is in a much better position to judge what drugs are effective and what are merely placebos, such as prescribing antibiotics to fight the common cold. In our area we are desperately short of doctors so I can’t see the medical council going overboard on this.

      She’d been kidnapped and assaulted by Akshay Anand Chand, who was released on bail to an address 300 metres from her home. This was despite calls by Christie and the police not to grant Chand bail.
      
      Chand was found insane and committed to psychiatric hospital indefinitely.
      
      Is Chand still locked up? Two psychiatrists diagnosed him as schizophrenic.

ppeal riles Opotiki coastal claimant group
A member of a Bay of Plenty group awarded customary rights and title to parts of the coastal area around Opotiki is questioning what right the Landowners Coalition of Whangarei has appealing the High Court decision that went in favour of the tribal group.

Karen Mokomoko from Te Whanau o Mokomoko says the appeal is frustrating when the six groups of the Whakatohea tribe involved in the case want to proceed with drawing up the orders to implement the judgement. See Claimants frustrated

The Landowners Coalition is headed by Bob Syron, a property investor, and Frank Newman, a director of the New Zealand Centre for Policy Research think tank which is headed by former ACT MP Muriel Newman.

The Landowners Coalition was represented in court by barrister Christopher Finlayson, who as Attorney General in the last ACT-National-Maori Party Government wrote the Marine and Coastal Areas Act to replace Labour’s Foreshore and Seabed Act.

Mr Newman said that when the Act was passed the Attorney General indicated valid claims for a customary title would only affect around 4 percent of the coastline because, for a claim to be successful, the claimant group would have to prove that it had enjoyed “continuous and exclusive” use of the relevant coast since 1840 – a very demanding test.

But the Whakatohea judgment by Justice Churchman has implications for approximately 200 similar claims currently before the High Court which cover the entire coast of New Zealand.

The key issues at stake in this particular matter include clarifying these phrases in the Act:

“Holds the specified area in accordance with tikanga”,
“Exclusive use and occupation”, and
“Substantial interruption”.
In the Whakatohea case, Justice Churchman decided that:

Tikanga should be given greater weight than western proprietary concepts,
Use and occupation can be “exclusive” even when shared, and
Neither the granting of a resource consent nor the fact of land having been lost or confiscated represents a substantial interruption to connection to the land.
Attorney-General David Parker did not appeal the decision on behalf of the people of New Zealand. He refused to say whether he would have appealed the decision if the Landowners Coalition had not done so.

Our petition which asks Parliament to amend the Marine and Coastal Area (Takutai Moana) Act 2011 to restore public ownership of the coastal area, put all claims through the High Court, and repeal customary marine title, while affirming customary rights has picked up more than 36,400 signatures.   Notwithstanding this I believe that this is a very positive move as the Hauraki is a mess.

Govt ties media funding to activism
The New Zealand’s mainstream media’s practice of reporting only one side of stories concerning equality and unity between Maori and everyone else has been traced to guidelines issued by Broadcasting Minister Kris Faafoi.

In January, Cabinet agreed to draw down $55 million over the next three years from the broadcasting fund to be administered by NZ On Air “to support the production of public interest journalism including Maori and Iwi journalism”.

The document, titled Public Interest Journalism Fund: General Guidelines, that was released in April, said that this fund came about, firstly, because “the spread of misinformation related to COVID-19, particularly through social media channels”.

Reason No 2 was a supposed “need for the fund to reflect a Te Tiriti o Waitangi Partnership with Maori media”.

Media commentator Karl Du Fresne, who has worked in New Zealand journalism for 40 years, including a stint as editor of the Dominion Post, summed up the fund.

“Nowhere in the guidelines is there any explicit commitment to the publication of a range of competing views on vital issues – for example, race relations and the Treaty,” Du Fresne wrote.

“In fact, the guidelines pretty much rule it out, since recipients of public money won’t be able to acknowledge the existence of Treaty sceptics, still less give them space or air time, if they’re required to promote the principles of a Treaty “partnership”, the very existence of which the sceptics challenge,” he wrote. So was yesterday’s announcement, of an announcement (as no dates have been set), that the vaccine rollout will now include younger people another carefully crafted media deflection from the PM’s media team (which of course led the news all day)?

After all for better or worse, with WinstonFirst emerging from their own self-imposed witless protection scheme, NZF grabbed media attention and headlines all weekend and into Monday.

Also I can recall the PM subtly dissing NZF in recent times (which she now “refutes”, of course), so does this mean that Labour is somewhat worried about NZF because they can damage Labour’s agenda to enable societal change by calling them out (as for some reason media is reluctant to put pressure on Winston, unlike if it were National or ACT)?

    Most of the stuff in that speech is just a beat up that appeals to a limited audience.

    I suppose you air war fans I hope you haven’t missed the greatest air war story of all – Winkle Brown, top British war test pilot, and top British carrier pilot (more than 2,000 take-offs and landings).
    
    Because he studied German, then in pre-war Germany met some of the great German fliers, he, with requisitioned Luftwaffe mechanics, in 1945 tested the German fighters – and Italian and Japanese fighters.

Reading the comments here sometimes one wonders why anyone wants to live in the country, but the price of going to the cricket is a good reason to stay if the cost of a ticket to the current NZ/India match is anything to go by.

He Puapua … was first seeded in 2007 when NZ, Canada, Aust, and the USA voted against the principles of it (the rights of indigenous people) at the UN.

Despite the dirtying of the waters by Labour, a little more perspective is that Canada, Australia, and the USA then voted for the Declaration of Rights of Indigenous People, leaving New Zealand alone in opposition until we also finally voted for it.

But in his speech to the UN, Pita Sharples essentially said while we agree with the aspirations of the Declaration, in New Zealand we have our own arrangement, the Treaty –

Maori Affairs Minister Pita Sharples has flown secretly to New York for a speech to the United Nations signing New Zealand up to a declaration on indigenous rights.

9. In particular, where the Declaration sets out aspirations for rights to and restitution of traditionally held land and resources, New Zealand has, through its well-established processes for resolving Treaty claims, developed its own distinct approach.

Under that link there is also –
Labour strongly opposed the declaration, fearing it was too sweeping and labelling it incompatible with New Zealand’s constitutional and legal arrangements and Treaty settlement policy.

It also feared the creation of two classes of citizenship and said the declaration would give indigenous people veto rights over laws made by Parliament.

But Prime Minister John Key stressed that the declaration was non-binding and would not compromise the “fundamentals” of his Government’s approach to resolving Treaty claims. The Government also rejected any suggestion that endorsing the declaration would give Maori, as New Zealand’s indigenous people, the right of veto over parliamentary law.

For Ardern and Labour to now flippantly say anything like “Of course, this was voted for by John Key”, does not really reflect the truth.

  He’s a doctor of some description and carries a stethoscope, so I’ll assume some medical knowledge that may help the good doctor answer the following pertinent questions:
  
  1. Of the Maori who suffer so badly from cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes, how many would you say are caused by colonialism, and how many by making poor lifestyle, diet and exercise choices? NB: I realise KFC was fronted by “Colonel Sanders”, but I’m not talking about that kind of colonel-ism….
  
  2. Why are “Wāhine Māori the least likely to access cervical and breast screening” and what relevance does that have given the machines that diagnose and treat cervical and breast cancer are evil white-produced contraptions that would be otherwise unavailable to the tangata whenua?
  
  3. Why do Maori children “have a mortality rate one-and-a-half times the rate found in non-Māori children.”? Who is killing them? Why are they not getting the free treatment so readily available to every child in the country?
  
  While we’re at it, why do so many Maori children miss so much school? The answers to all of these, if honestly given, will reveal that colonisation, far from being the cause of everything wrong with the lives of Maori, had nothing to do with it, and as MP Wood points out – him knowing just a thing or two about Maori history – on balance it improved outcomes for Maori in all areas.
  
  Maybe, just maybe, a bit of personal responsibility is in order, a healthy reflection on the daily decisions made by the ones struggling so much, and a commitment to improving their lifestyle choices. All of these would make a huge difference to the “outcomes for Maori” but they’ll be ignored by you and your fellow-travelling victims. Much easier to be a victim, lay all the blame at the feet of the white man, and give up. Changing a few words to make someone more welcome while you;re saving their lives rings very hollow to me.   It is telling you the speed is 30; urban centre.
  But who would have known? A tiny fraction of those driving past.
  Why not simply have “30kmph”, or if explanation was needed in the interests of safety, then use a language that is widely understood (even by Maori who know Te Reo or not – they will know English as well).
  Some of this tomfoolery shoe-horning in Maori words is plain silly.
  I think ALL hazards and warnings, labels on packages and chemicals should be exclusively in Maori from now on, if the authorities are really going so show concern for the wellbeing of the taonga of language. Wanna tell wasp poison apart from icing sugar? Well, enroll at the Te Wananga! {sarc}.

  Of course this is all nonsense – there has always been word borrowing between languages. How it is used depends on the language that is doing the borrowing. That language gets to set the pronunciation, grammar, spelling etc.
  
  Maori can have their toane and their pihrimana and pronunce them how they like.
  English speakers can have their taupo and kumara and pronounce them and pluralise them how they like too!

Give me a break.

If I turned up to a Board or an executive lead team and said “Oh I haven’t delivered what I said I was going to do and that I’m just so extraordinarily frustrated” and without issues, problems and roadblocks identified a clear plan forward, I would expect to be removed from my post immediately and have it filled by another.

Again, it would be an admission that I’m just not up to the task – and that I’m just looking for sympathy.

      I have a question. Are the Spanish “people of colour” or white?. If the Spanish are not people of colour, but white, then why are they any different from the similarly hued Iranians or Greeks or Turks? The Greeks, Spanish, Persians and Turks all had huge colonial empires. So did the Italians. Are Italians white? If you are in Sicily, they look a lot darker than, say, Golriz, who considers herself a POC. So Golriz comes from the once mighty Persia, is whiter to my eyes than Luigi from the trattoria down the road, but considers that all the problems of the world can be laid at the feet of Luigi’s ancestors. Or perhaps , if Luigi is a POC, it is acceptable to be a coloniser as long as you don’t come from somewhere north of, say, Paris.

TIP FOR THE DAY
If you live on Auckland’s North Shore don’t take your vehicle(s) to the North Shore Testing Station. I spent slightly more than three hours there today getting a fucking WOF. They had all lanes working but the mechanics I observed had no intention of going about their tasks in a systematic manner or concern for customers who were all packed into the processing office to get the necessary paperwork done.
Honestly, it was hilarious to watch if one was in any way accustomed to working with teams in a professional manner and having concern for the output of documented processes.
I watched one person checking the vehicle’s oil of all things. What has that got to do with a vehicle’s roadworthiness FFS?
In the future, I will be making an appointment with a local garage and arriving on time and watching the inspection being done.

  The oil check is a scam they run, they’ll come and tell you that you need oil and for $20 they’ll sell you 500ml.
  If you decline there is a good chance they will fail your warrant.
  Watched this happen the last time (10 years ago) I went to a VTNZ testing station, every customer that declines this “service” had their warrant failed, including mine ( a scratch on a chassis rail showing primer paint, not bare metal no rust just a scratch, they thought I wouldn’t get under the car to check).
  They do this to meet their quota of, at least, 10-15% fails per month otherwise, they get audited by Land Transport or whoever is responsible or the entire charade of WoFs.

    Sunnybrae. You have just reminded me of an episode I had at the same place last year. I took my classic car there for a WoF and they were all fawning over it and asking me questions about its history etc and then this Camel Wanker told me the VIN No was incorrect. Luckily, I had the original ownership papers at home, so I went home and got them. The VIN No on the ownership papers matched that on their computer system but not that on the vehicle’s compliance plate. The ownership papers showed a double 1 in the number whereas the compliance plate showed a tripple 1 in the number.
    To cut a long story short, I was informed that if I didn’t pay to get the anomaly rectified, my vehicle would be impounded. Well, I paid up but it took four weeks for them to e-mail me and tell me to bring the vehicle back and undergo another WoF check which I had to pay for again because the rectification of defects time had elapsed.
    Well, I can’t repeat my departing discourse with them because it would get me banned from KB again.
    I was not impressed.

More lies from the MSM – the Horrid, desperately searching for relevance and money with equal urgency, has uncovered one person that supports Mr Hubbard bashing up the real women in the olympics weight-lifting.

This will really shock you, but the supporter is (wait for it) a transgender activist! I know, what are the odds? This very confused and mentally-ill did the same as Mr Hubbard and actually took (and won, though in Canada it’s an astonishingly low bar) a human rights case and won it, so colour me shocked that he supports Mr Hubbard.

The dishonesty comes from the headline: “Support for first New Zealand transgender Olympic athlete Laurel Hubbard grows” and was first put about by Red Radio (again, I’m shocked). What about asking the man in the street, or better still, Mr Hubbard’s erstwhile and soon-to-be competitors? I think you’ll find that support diminishing, but $105m says you won’t publish it.
