    I’d like to see the Pharmac budget doubled and to have the funds made available by cutting spending in other areas.
    
    Then to have the PM say “Right, anyone who comes looking to the Government for more money, that money will come from the Pharmac budget – so let’s hear their arguments then…”
    
    Which is of course EXACTLY what the Labour Government did, in reverse, with NZ First in giving them $3Bn for the PGF. That was money that could have gone to Pharmac but they instead CHOSE to give it to Peters, Shane Jones and the rest of their goons to spend instead.
    
    And for what? Naked political payola and support buying – and instead of the thousands of well-paid, sustainable jobs in the provinces promised we now hear reports of just a few tens of jobs actually delivered, at best.

        I’d at least double it. Our spend on pharmaceuticals per GDP is under 5%. All other developed countries in the OECD spend at least 10%. There’s plenty of privately run organisations, including iwi , who could get by without the largesse of the state for the benefit of all, surely?

        That is simply not true. From the OECD’s own material the average across the OECD countries is 1.5% of which only 0.8% comes from Government sources. That would go up to about 1.65% if drugs used in Hospitals were included.

The head speaker of the sixth form girls’ debating team who has never had a job in the real world – other than wrapping up fish and chips – is the role model for politicians everywhere (even if they do have to add sub titles to surmount her dreadful way of speaking …

She and I were elected in the same year, 2008. Of all the “class of 2008” she was one of the least impressive…and now she is role model for the world. Bugger me….

  Readers are going to think – understandably – that my above comment is bitterness or at the very least sour grapes on my part; we came into the House in the same year – she is now the darling of the world, my life was pretty much ruined in 2010 due to my foolishness of over 30 years before.
  
  I can only ask people to accept that if she had really impressed me back then I wouldn’t have written what I have above. There were in fact a number of Labour MP’s from the class of 2008 I respected: funnily enough, Kelvin Davis was one of them. I was very surprised – and somewhat saddened – to see it that the fundamentally decent and far from stupid man I got to know just couldn’t cut it in the hurly burly of politics.
  
  But then there were many MP’s who had had impressive lives outside the House who found – or others found for them – that it was a whole different ballgame. I am thinking of Alan Peachey, former headmaster of Rangitoto College, and a highly respected educator, and a former eminent eye surgeon whose name I genuinely can’t remember…Paul someone.
  
  There was another guy of whom Rodney said – quite seriously – “that guy could buy and sell John Key”. So, a multi-millionaire in the real world, a nobody in the House. I honestly can’t remember his name either, although I can see his face in my mind’s eye.
  
  But Ardern, “the president everyone in the world wants”?? Yeah, Nah. But then as Rodney told me at the beginning, politics is both a brutal and a strange business. My career proved the first part of that to be true – Ardern’s career is an example of the second.

In your case you were getting a high profile, picking up support for a strong law and order stance, so needed to be taken out.     The person who comes to mind as being rich would seem to be Bob Clarkson. He sold of his commercial property last year for about $200 million.
    Hard to believe that you can’t remember him though, even if he did only serve for one term. After all, he was the man who broke Winston’s hold on Tauranga.

  Interesting isn’t it David. I gnash my teeth over her continued presence as PM when I should give her nary a passing thought. Her popularity is the product of social media I believe. You can make quite a lasting construct from artfully taken photos and slogans. And people are awful good at projecting their own lost hopes and dreams on an attractive titular head. This was the draw of Bill Clinton.
  Like other socialists, her effect on the New Zealand economy is going to last for generations, starting from the decision to pull the rug out from under the Taranaki Oil and Gas industry.
  That promo video is just spin. No one I know wants her as President. That’s fucking rot. And she self disqualifies. America will never give away guns. When I became American recently I had to pledge to bear arms if asked. I said:”Of course I will”.

  When I first saw her on the other side of the House in 2008, and listened to a few of her speeches, I concluded she was probably going to become Leader of the Labour Party and PM circa 2020. She got there 3 years earlier than I expected, due to rather unusual circumstances.

Just extraordinary. Reminds me of the propaganda promoted by Elena and Nicolae Ceauşescu in Romania in the 1980s.

I like this line… “Everyone’s mental health is a priority.” My mental health has deteriorated with every announcement of yet another government policy that will make New Zealand poorer and more divided.

I agree with David Garret. She was very unimpressive as a backbencher. In 2017 I spent an hour or so looking for achievements on select committees and with private member bills. It was a barren landscape. Compare her with Chris Bishop for example.

The thing is that outside New Zealand you can’t find out what is going on here. There is virtually no reporting of New Zealand economic and political affairs outside the country.

BTW I can’t be bothered checking but is it clear that the creator of this video is serious?

This leader-worship phenomenon is unhealthy, in any society.

And it’s especially unhealthy, in NZ, when measured against Labour’s track record on delivering on their promises – here, their performance has been abysmal. Any adulation forthcoming is totally undeserved, in my humble view.

Looking at that video it’s just full of glib platitudes, stock phrases, PR spin and empty slogans. Further, I would greatly doubt whether she even wrote anything like the majority of those speeches. At best she would have received drafts from others and made some relatively-minor changes to suit her personal preferences and emphasis.

So why would we possibly hail her as a result?

Looking to ‘leaders’ to make our lives better is a false hope. A mirage. It inevitably ends in tears.

I’ve noted too on here before how it is mostly the left who indulge in this leader/hero worship, and with Ardern many on the left have totally abandoned any sense of scepticism or objectivity about her performance and achievements.

If this is about how she ‘makes them feel’ versus her objectively-measured performance then they setting themselves, and some of us, up for a big fall when she ultimately leaves the scene with NZ largely unchanged or perhaps a little worse off for her efforts.

Give me any day the 2008-17 National team who just got on and delivered stuff without all the hoopla and adulation, worship and sanctification.

New Zealanders are far, far better off leaving the leader-worship stuff to the Communist Chinese, adoring Venezuelans and pre-’91 dutiful East-Europeans – and see where it got those people.

  As have I, with plenty of examples to go on. I well recall the fawning over David Lange and although Norman Kirk is before my time, looking back at the coverage you can see all the elements. More recently overseas there was Bill Clinton in 1992 and Tony Blair, circa 1997, only for both to be exceeded by the insanity around Obama a decade later.
  
  The real kicker though is how many of these once-worshiped figures were so soon rejected by their own flock, to the extent that within a few years of their departing the scene they’re talked of in scathing terms by the Left. In Blair’s case it happened even before he left office.
  
  For the same reason, despite the attempts to create a new Micky Savage mythos from the dull clay of Jacinda Adern, I don’t think it’s going to work this time. Though I doubt she’ll ever by loathed the fact is that the world operates on Warhol speed nowadays and she’ll vanish fast from the public mind once she quits or loses power and quits.

Do Kiwis really know about Jacinda Arderns’s political background?

In the early 2000’s she worked for Tony Blairs political office in London— Tony Blair was a blatant socialist and UN supporter.

Jacinda was also head of the socialist youth league at the UN.

One her famous comments back then was that capitalism had failed the poor people of this world.

One of the dumbest things Winston Peters ever did was go with Jacinda and Labour in 2017 — and now we are paying the price for this.

She is the poster girl of woke socialism around the world because of her looks, youth, and a compliant media in this country who never challenge her handling of anything like the failure of the vaccine roll outs, border controls, lock downs, Kiwi build, Maori separatism, gang problems etc,

Kiwis better wake up (not woke up) to Jacinda and Labours real agenda for the people of this country — to turn us into a socialist one party state.

Its all about getting viewers to watch for more than ??9 minutes ?? so that Youtube pay him

So dont get your knickers in a twist.

Give him a year and he may, just may, if he senses the media opportunity. Giving the fall of jacinda video. Lets hope its early/mid 2023.

The world wants Jacinda Ardern as their President so what she should now do as a kind and compassionate world leader is to go to India to eradicate the Covid virus there and use the same NZ Covid eradication blue print that is so looked up to by the world and the guy in this video. The 2020 population of India is approximately 1.38 billion people so Jacinda Ardern could have a Team of 1.38 billion instead of NZ’s Team of four million nine hundred ninety-nine thousand nine hundred ninety-nine (I resigned from the Jacinda Ardern Team of 5 Million last year). This would really make a mark on the world and Jacinda Ardern would be forever worshipped as the Saint who saved India from Covid.
