So skilled immigrant will not be needed in New Zealand anymore as the Government sets its reset for a high skilled workforce.
I’m wondering whether this is just another way for Labour to acquire good Land from our Market Growers and Orchids around New Zealand to build houses and put a end to the housing crisis
Why would this surprise people as Labour is known for one fuck up after another and will try anything to fix previous fuckups.

    Like a lot of the government’s thinking the great immigration re-set will be a bust:
    
    1). Are the 200-odd so called “investors” really coming down here for business opportunities or just a quarantine free holiday?
    2). When these “investors” see:
    i). there is no skilled labour force nor any way of getting them into the country
    ii) understand the resource management act and the lack of construction capability
    iii) The difficulty and cost of getting things in and out of (little) Aotearoa
    will they be keen to invest?
    
    It’s made out Jeff Bezos is coming over for a look and the cheque book. What’s the bet it’s Jim from Blackpool that sold his tyre business last year and wants a holiday with his wife, Mavis.
    
    Only in (little) Aotearoa would we be this naïve and the 4 estate so feckless……..

      I doubt that anyone with enough sense to make enough money to be an “investor” lacks the sense to check out things like labour/transport costs associated with running a business from Little A-land.
      
      I suspect that most of those investors will do things that require very little interaction with workers and shipping.
      
      I’ll wager the majority will do something that is plausibly an “investment”, but is really just a kind of retirement. eg. maybe invest in some low-effort property or a vineyard that someone else manages.

  This is getting serious. National are missing many opportunities to make useful points on current issues but don’t seem to have framed their arguments. Compared to David Seymour they seem sleepy and lackluster.
  
  Shane Reti missed a brilliant opportunity on Q&A on Sunday to postulate how a separatist health system might work in practice: “A Maori and a Pakeha with his Asian wife walk into their local GP and ask…etc.”
  
  Someone needs to help them with their lines. It should be easy to poke fun at much of what is being proposed.

  I made the point in a post yesterday (with reference to the US Regime currently occupying Washington) that it is naive and runs against all observable evidence to suggest that the usual suspects (Russia, China North Korea et al) are much worse, if at all worse, than what Western nations have become in 2021.
  
  In case anyone hasn’t yet noticed, 75,000,000 Americans, to a greater or lesser extent, have now been deemed enemies of the state by the President simply for having the “wrong ” political opinions and voting for the “wrong” candidate. Clearly then, political pluralism is a quaint relic of a bygone era.
  
  Many Russians, Chinese and North Koreans likely agree with the political oppression of their countrymen as dissidents, simply because they are propagandised into this belief by the media in those countries. Exactly the same is now true in the US: the propagandists in the MSM tell the populace that these putative enemies of the state are dangerous, thereby justifying state suppression and political persecution. The brainwashing is so complete and the cognitive dissonance so comprehensive that many people still think they live in a free society. Freedom is ebbing away before our eyes.

Brash: Giving one tribe equal say with 23 councils outrageous
A proposal to give one tribe equal say to that of 23 councils over South Island water without consulting the non-Maori community is outrageous, Hobson’s Pledge spokesman Don Brash said today.

The Government’s preferred option for the so-called Three Waters Reform was presented last Monday to 23 mayors and South Island tribe Ngai Tahu, Opposition leader Judith Collins told the National Party’s South Island conference in Queenstown at the weekend.

The 23 councils and Ngai Tahu would jointly appoint an “independent board” and jointly own the water assets in the South Island, according to a diagram of the model created by the Department of Internal Affairs.

Elected councillors are at the bottom of this organisation, just one step up from “the community” and “other users”.

“I’m sure power generators and primary producers who rely on water, not to mention everyone who lives in the South Island, will want to know how much this will cost them,” Dr Brash said.

The Government’s preferred model clearly shows Ngai Tahu, a tribal business entity that claims the affiliation of 68,000 people, as having the same say as 23 councils which may represent 750,000 people, Dr Brash said.

Consultation was limited to Maori groups and individuals in 19 “huis” throughout New Zealand last September and October involving a total of 315 people with some unidentified central and local government attendees, according to the Three Waters Reform summary report.

“The segregated consultation with Maori groups gives the appearance that the Government is following the recommendations of the He Puapua report recommending segregated governments under tribal monitoring,” Dr Brash said.

The people of New Zealand expect our Government to be open and transparent and the Government has fallen well short on this, he said.

The people of New Zealand also expect our Government to govern without fear or favour and in this instance it looks like the Government is favouring Ngai Tahu, Dr Brash said.

  Here in the Tasman District our council has committed us to pay for a dam that only half the place want.
  At the start the cost was around 50 million. It’s crept up and up and now the expected cost is 158 million. They’re about half way in the build.
  My question now is, are Ngai Tahu going to take on half the debt created by this cost blowout, or are they only interested in one side of the balance sheet?

    Why even Ngai Tahu?. Top of the South is the Te Tauihu tribes. 8 others separate from Ngai Tahu. There is not much in common with Ngai Tahu. This will cause a big fight amongst iwi.
    
    Also Ngai Tahu is a commercial entity, not a cultural one. Each area is actually controlled by a local elected rununga. Who may or may not agree with Ngai Tahu.

    Without the Tasman dam there would be some interesting decisions to be made:
    Should the food production on the Waimea Plains be without irrigation?
    Should the houses of Richmond be without water?
    Should the houses of Nelson be without water?
    or a combination of the above?
    There was discussion of pumping from Motueka however I think the talk of destroying the pipeline as it was being laid may have put that decision away.
    We are going to see more of these issues throughout NZ in future and I believe that there is little room for one race to decide what should happen for all.
    Final Point: if Nelson city pays its share then ………

    There is no mandate for that. Even less so, as the Tribes are not one, and there is really no Maori Nation. All the diverse groups are going to expect their shares too. Some are still holding out on Waitangi settlements as they will not be outdone by lesser lights.

I think the change in immigration position is positive overall.
1 – NZ should not have a population that gorws forever – I would support a cap.
2 – it might actaully inprove productivity, which is something that even Greece beats us at currently.

  I heard that pathetic excuse for an MP this morning Stuart Nash espousing the need for rich immigrants prepared to invest in NZ. What a joke. If he had half a brain, he would have put himself in the position of a rich investor and asked himself “do I really need to invest in NZ and what will the return be?” In no time flat, the answer would have been obvious, NO. There would be a minimal return on investment due to the country’s current financial status and insatiable greed for tax monies to satisfy vanity projects and social demands of sections of a population who are work averse. If he was also to answer his own question honestly, (although not possible for a Labour MP) his next thought would have been “Where is the country going?” And there people lies a problem. A once proud and prosperous country driving itself towards Socialist/Communism is not where anyone in their right mind would invest!!! If it were, Venezuela would be flooded with rich investors.
  Next, any investor worth their salt would want to know what said countries population was like? When the investor discovers the country is co-governed by a racially imposing and demanding so-called indigenous self-entitled people along with a non-indigenous semi-organisation of people who cede to every demand made of it’s indigenous partner in crime.
  I for one wouldn’t invest in my own country these days. The risks are too great.

An interesting comment from Mike Hosking this morning about the Reid Research poll, and its methodology.

Reid Research, on behalf of its client Mediaworks, polls a certain number of people by landline and cellphone. The balance of responses are taken from a panel of people who have opted in for online surveys or polls. And that’s where it gets interesting.

Those called are simply asked who their preferred Prime Minister is, and their answers are recorded. But those polled online are presented with a list of potential PM candidates – 10-12 names – from which they make a selection. On the most recent poll, the name John Key appeared on the list.

So two questions; firstly, why would you offer as a potential PM a man who walked away from the Prime Ministership in 2016, and who left politics completely in 2017? Secondly, who prepares and authorises the list which is presented to those participating in the poll; is it someone from Newshub, or from Reid Research, and if it’s the former, who is responsible?

On the face of it, the inclusion of John Key seems to have no other purpose than to weaken support for Judith Collins, and support Newshub’s narrative that her leadership of the National Party is under threat. Is that really honest, objective journalism?

      But that’s the point, I can think of a long list of people that would poll higher than Collins. It’s also not difficult to put together a list that would poll higher than Jacinda. None of the choices would be relevant to the question though as they’re not legitimate options. If Key were to return to politics then sure have him on the list.

  I heard Hosking this morning saying the above, it was quite informative, also liked his use of the word “Wonky” to describe this stupid idea to put names of former PM/MP’s in the online polling (I mean seriously, how stupid and deceptive is that).
  
  I like the word “Wonky”, I think it sums up Tova’s deceptiveness quite well … I think I’ll refer to her as “Wonky O’Brien” when does does stupid and deceptive shit like that!

      Tova has slavishy ignored any issues with the Labour / green / NZF parties or their policies. She will mention an issue with the afore mentioned and spend about a minute on it, usually framing it as a political danger to the party involved. She than, almost always, pivots to discussing weakness in the national party for the remainder of her analysis.
      
      This is exactly the method used by PR people employed by political parties. That Media works ‘political reporter’ functions the same way as a Labour / Green PR person renders Media works political coverage (and any coverage of new laws) as nothing more that propoganda.
      
      Media works and their new left wing owners Discovery are clearly happy to be the CNN of NZ media. Unfortunately their competition aren’t ‘high quality’ either.

      Taking out Bridges was good Labour strategy. Judith is now the target too but she’s got time and experience on her side. Both her and Simon are very able but when you are dealing with the Labour PR mobsters you cannot play the nice game. They don’t play fair, they aim to destroy.     Twice I’ve been rung for a poll and have been asked for my post code both times. When I gave my postcode , a strong National seat, I was told that I didn’t qualify for the poll, the answer being that they had enough people from that postcode already. I don’t believe them. Next time I will be ready with the postcode from a neighbouring labour seat.

      Here is my experience with an online survey. I recently completed the feedback survey on the Ministry of Education website calling for feedback on the proposed NZ history curriculum. I found that I have been able to repeat the survey many times. I have even signed on as a Maori. Most online surveys will only allow you to complete them once from the same computer. That is really dumb. Can’t wait to see the results.

    I recall an on air exchange between Garner and O’Brien last year where it was clearly implied that O’Brien manages the Reid Newshub polls as Newshub’s Chief Political Editor.
    It made no sense for Key to have been a contender in the latest poll and also given O’Brien’s history with anti National Leader reporting/opinion campaigns it was obvious that questions had been “fashioned” to elicit the desired response.
    The problem with show ponies like O’Brien and her prime minister idol is they will persist with a tactic as long as it keeps working.

      Polling is discredited. National used to poll fortnightly at considerable cost. However they now rarely post. Why spend money to find out what you could more accurately assess from an hour spent socialising in the local hostelry.   It’s quite clear John Key’s name was thrown in as a wild card. It still doesn’t hide the fact that a certain percentage of the population would prefer him as PM over JC, or Ardern for that matter.
  I would say with certainty that a good number of people on this forum would prefer he was back leading the country.
  If his name wasn’t on the list there’s no telling where his preferences would have gone, but whoever it was would have been a lukewarm 2nd choice by definition.

  I think Chris Trotter’s commentary above of TV3 nails it. We are not being served by them; neither informing the public nor asking the right questions. They are actually manipulating a narrative, and even Trotter is seeing that it is a one-sided affair.
  Including John Key in the list of option is either stupid or mischievous.
  Chris Trotter also made a comment previously that it is possible to tell if Judith is pushing the right peoples buttons over He Puapua.
  Now they are taking off the gloves, and attacking the messenger by all means. The Nats must not blink, keep calm, and stay on message.
  Lack of discussion of the contents of He Puapua is the problem. Of course it is separatist, to state a need for a separate Maori governance and state structure replicating the function of the crown entity.
  In the meantime Jacinda talks about cheese scroll recipes, flashes another toothy smile, and many NZers pay no attention to the mix of ineptitude and dangerous thinking of the party behind her.

The client is dealing with SEVEN Maori organisations over his resource consent and each (cultural impact assessment etc) report, from each organisation, costs him $20,000.

And if he wants these reports in under six months it’s $40,000.

(Not sure if that’s plus GST or inclusive.)

Last night there was a story on TV3 news about the average hours of housework husbands do vs wives, was 19/week for the men vs 28/week for the women. The claim was that these figures were evidence that men were lazy, spending too much time on the couch.
The story even emphasized that even when the husband and wife were both in full-time employment the wives did more housework. What the story ignored was that typical “full-time employment” for men is on average around 10 hours/week longer for men than women.

The longer hours men work in paid employment was referenced at the end of the story – but not in connection to the amount of housework men do, rather it was given as the product of women being disadvantaged in cutting down their hours in paid employment with children needing to be cared for.

Just another example of the popularity of misandry these days: Men Bad.

  Longer hours for men probably partly does reflect a former reality, namely, that their wives were home looking after the kids.
  Since it is still women who have and breastfeed babies, time out of the workforce and its effect on the career path are inevitable for mothers. And if Mum has been out of the workforce, chances are she earns less than Dad, so from the family paying Auckland rent/mortgage point of view, it probably makes economic sense for Dad to carry on doing the longer hours while Mum takes on more of the childcare/housework.

    Usually the kids of the family.
    Having said that about half the people employ professionals to cut the grass, from my observation.
    
    Back when I was a kid few mothers resumed work once they started a family of the people we knew, who were all Catholic and had a lot of kids.

    Most pension money is paid in from men’s taxes and most pension money is paid out to women (men die ~7 years younger than women, often because of our occupational hazards and lack of funding for men-only problems such as prostate cancer). Did anyone hear Hosking this morning about the TV3 poll? Half of those were online and were given a choice of who should be the National Party leader. The choices included John Key which was intended to bring Collins vote down. Does TV3 get government funding?

  Indirectly, as in non-stop Covid tv and radio advertising (including in prime time … that’s alot of $$$ for Mediaworks), Govt offering to pay their transmission fees (in the initial $50M Govt/media funding package 2020) which means Mediaworks can use money saved for other things, NZ on Air subsidised programming etc.
  
  But I don’t think it has anything to do with that. I think it is simply that Wonky Tova is just an [deleted – mod.], and enjoys manipulating the news to claim political scalps, instead of doing, ya know something long forgotten about, called “reporting” (as in non-biased, balanced, factual and accurate … RIP proper journalism).

    TV3 is now owned by Discovery New Zealand, a branch of Discovery Inc, of the United States.
    
    The American firm is in play at the moment, with the big American company AT&T, combining its WarnerMedia division with Discovery. The shareholders of AT&T are getting shares representing 71 per cent of the ownership of Discovery Inc.
    
    Apparently the “Discovery” name will probably be changed.
    
    The web site, Tech Crunch, says the deal will include more than 100 brands:
    
    “These include HBO, Warner Bros., Discovery, DC Comics, CNN, Cartoon Network, HGTV, Food Network, the Turner Networks, TNT, TBS, Eurosport, Magnolia, TLC and Animal Planet. The companies confirmed that they plan to include news in the largely entertainment-focused group.
    They say it will have annual revenues of approximately $(US)52 billion.”
    
    Sorry Tova, no mention of TV3! But being part of the same group as CNN – you’ll love that.

I’m sure this will get downticks but this is a very interesting 28 minutes of audio about the legal issues, challenges, inventive defences, and serious charges being pursued by the Federal government.

In the first few minutes it highlights what AoR did yesterday, and which is well known, that the are plenty of people who went inside, didn’t steal or break anything, took selfies and then left. That is correct that those cases exist.

But that isn’t the end of it, it also covers the violence and pre-planned and organised operation executed by the proud boys, three percenters, and various other entities.

All in all, well worth a listen!

    Yes some were ‘welcomed’ past the check points, once it was clear that the few police at them were being totally overwhelmed and they were needed as reinforcements at the steps and doors. That is a tactical withdrawal, it doesn’t mean that the rioters weren’t trespassing or there without permission.
    
    There is no evidence of people aligned with the leaderless movement known as antifa being anywhere near the Capitol on Jan 6. The 400+ people arrested are all Trump supporters who proudly wore the hats and flags, and have corroborating social media histories to boot.
    
    Naming some random guy with a YouTube channel named John Sullivan doesn’t prove any of what you claim.
    
    Please provide some actual real proof of someone from ‘Antifa’ being arrested for storming the Capitol, or charges against multiple people for organising it.

      That’s just the Reader’s Digest version. The full report is about 250 odd pages and contains some interesting things. Amongst them is a lengthy diatribe about how important Maori deities are in formulating any policy. You don’t even have to go past about page 7 to read it, but I find the notion that any form of religious belief system can underpin social policy in this day and age.

If we are on the subject of polls i would like commentators to note how little coverage the previous Roy Morgan poll received compared to the latest Newshub poll.
I am going to make a prediction that if the next monthly poll from Roy Morgan show results that differ greatly from the Newshub poll then that will also be buried.
Our NZ media is now in the game of manufacturing public consent. It is why i will continue to advocate for an explicitly right wing news outlet as we don’t have a choice anymore.

Hosking also pointed out this morning an online article of which the headline reads –

The article says that there is overwhelming support for Maori wards – 96% in favour. As Hosking points out (and as is mentioned way down in the article), those doing the polling mailed out 18,500 survey forms but only got around 1600 forms back – 96% of which were in favour of Maori wards. So the polling is virtually worthless. Of course the only people sending the forms back are going to be largely in favour.

Councillors have been given the results of a Horizons survey mailed to nearly 18,500 individuals on the Māori electoral roll who are enrolled to vote in the Horizons region.

Ninety-six percent of the responses were in favour of the regional council establishing Māori constituencies in time for next year’s local body elections.

The survey was also publicly available for completion online. Most responses were received from people enrolled on the Māori electoral roll, and more than 90 percent were residents or ratepayers in the region.

Overall, 1649 responses were received, showing that 1472 people support introducing Māori wards in the Horizons region in 2022, and 152 oppose.

Here is my potted summary of the document which is written in hard to understand Manglish.:

By 2040, we must have three spheres of governance:
1. Rangatiratanga: What we think is is ours, you will give it to us, and we will do whatever we wish with it without any say for you.

2. Kawanatanga Karauna (Joint Sphere): What we agree is shared, we can have it, but we can do with it only what we will let you do.

From what I can gather:
This is based on various Te Tiriti interpretations Ver x.x , and future re-interpretations.

Must be done because the UN said so. But it was non-binding? Nope.

We forget full and final treaty settlements already done. That is all in the past.

The future is bi-cultural. Chinese, Indians, Asians of other varieties, and others don’t exist/matter.

This must be discussed this with the public, but only as a means to educate them.

The outcome is already decided. You can start implementing changes now.

We will discuss it with Maori as to how this will be implemented. And you will agree.

I am not anti-Jewish or nation of Israel (my great grandfather was Jewish ) but ever since Israel became a state by the UN in 1948 has every conflict, skirmish or crisis involving the Palestinians in one way or another always been their fault?

In other words are the Palestinians/ muslim’s always the aggressors (bad guys) towards Israel and their people?

Putting aside this recent problem even the most biased person cant’t help noticing that many in the west, USA, Uk, media,etc, and many christian churches take Israel’s side all the time.

The historical rhetoric is that the Palestinians hate Israel so much and if they had their way they would kill every Jew in Israel because its really a muslim state and they/UN took it off them.

The outrage from the west is always highlighted on how they murder innocent Jewish men, woman, and children but when Israel and their army retaliates by doing the same or worse to them — the west plays it down or says something like they deserved it.

I know in the west many far left govts , media, and people are displaying anti-semitic attitudes towards the Jews which I don’t like but just perhaps they are right that the Palestinians are unfairly labelled the bad guys always.

  4 Arab states promptly attacked Israel. Those states told Palestinians to leave the area, that they could return once Israel had been defeated.
  
  Some left and those remaining became Israeli citizens once the dust settled.

In Wellington we have the new, low energy white street lights. All very flash, but they provide noticeably less illumination than the previous orange sodium vapour street lights they replaced.

No doubt the Council are congratulating each other on the win for the planet, but they have missed the main point, which is that street lights need to first & foremost provide illumination.

  Not the get too nerdy but those lights actually provide better and clearer illumination to the human eye than that orange ones which basically created a lot of light noise compared the illumination.
  
  Though it does depend on how they’re set up, they provide a very directed light source with minimal spillage so need to set up the right way.

Often when i’m making lunch I listen to the ‘1ZB News’ ….then wait to see what HDPA’s Paramour has to say about the days political events.

Unfortunately, it means having to put up with those two embarrassments that host the ‘Noon > 4 Show’ until Bazza arrives in the studio. Today was no exception.

The first 10 minutes were taken up by a pathetic discussion about one owing the other a coupla’ bucks over some silly bet (….like anyone could give a flying f – -k) then, to cap it off, they start discussing “whether or not they talk to their work colleagues in the toilet when they go for ‘Number Ones”!
Apparently, the older of the two can’t pee if someone engages him in conversation while he’s standing there. (I assume he meant with his dick out.)

And to think ‘Shorn Plunket’ is sitting at home twiddling his thumbs.
