Jacinda Ardern has so far retained her confidence in Trevor Mallard as Speaker because he apologised to the man he wrongly accused of rape in 2019.

Last night however, Mallard effectively unapologised to the man, when, under parliamentary privilege, he accused the man of a “serious sexual assault”. Therefore his “sackcloth and ashes apology” from last year is no longer applicable.

On Newstalk ZB this morning, Barry Soper, the only journalist to have actually met with and interviewed the man in question, said that Labour and the PM are “morally bankrupt” if they continue to defend Mallard. The accusations he made last night were extraordinary, and his anger towards Christopher Bishop was visceral. He is no longer fit to hold the role of Speaker.

Jacinda Ardern cannot sack Mallard; only Parliament can, by way of a No Confidence motion. National has a Notice of Motion on Parliament’s Order Paper, but every time they seek leave to have it debated, someone from Labour objects.

So here’s a way forward for the Prime Minister. If she finally accepts that Trevor Mallard has crossed the line, she should instruct her caucus to allow National’s Notice of Motion to be debated, and when a vote is taken, Labour can abstain. That would give National and Act a majority, and Parliament could then express no confidence in Mallard, forcing him out.

Then again, Mallard himself could do the right thing, and resign as Speaker. But do turkeys vote for an early Christmas?

  For Mallard to use privilege to further denigrate, a now ‘ex’ staff member, just proved what a horrific person he is and a disgrace to his position.

    It’s still ironic that the biggest bully in parliament made a big deal about reforming parliament from its bullying ways, and then continues to denigrate and abuse people.
    
    Equally ironic that our fearless leader preaches kindness to all and sundry, yet continues to protect Mallard.

  Tony, what you call for are the only options available to Aedern & Mallard. However, given the historic tribal construct of Parliament, I believe there is little chance of either action happening.
  
  It is a sad reflection of a country, when its highest “court” is comprised of those (I am talking of all 120 MPs) who run Parliament like a school child sand pit and behave accordingly.

  The benefit to Labour from having him there is the protection he provides to the Prime Minister in Parliament, either preventing questions being asked or letting Robertson whisper hints when she gets confused.
  
  There is no cost as long as the blame for Mallard’s behaviour continues to fall on Mallard alone. At the moment not many people are holding Ardern and Labour responsible for any of it. That may change of course but it probably won’t.

  I suspect, to save face, JA will not allow a vote of no confidence to happen. Instead very shortly Mallard will instead resign from the position for unspecified health or family reasons. He will be gone and Labour will not be seen to be agreeing with National.

    Who says there were victims here? The police have said there is no charge to answer for, damages were paid out by the Taxpayer for Mallard’s terrible inaccurate and premature words. The person has lost their job/career, and insiders say the worst part was perhaps an unwelcome hug he gave to someone who didn’t like him. Even in the case of bullying, it needs to be a pattern of behaviour such as someone saying “Don’t hug me” and the person persists. There is no such claim made here.
    So pretending this is re-victimising anyone is rich – do you even believe that?
    Mallard has even come out when the real victim said that his life was destroyed, and he doubles down on serious accusations even after an apology and a six figure settlement by taxpayers.
    So good grief – wrong end of the stick.
    Who is being re-victimised from exchanging ‘rapist’ with ‘sex abuser’. Think about it, if you can.
    “Won’t anybody think of the women”{plural}, Martin cries with crocodile tears; missing the point by a mile.

    On your reasoning, there should be no court cases or media stories or even discussion because it ‘revictimises’ women. Women can stand up for themselves without your crocodile tears. You’d be better occupying yourself explaining why you think Mallard is such a fine upstanding chap.

Speaker Trevor Mallard and the false rape claim- the ‘Truth’ revealed.
Trevor Mallard has used the legal immunity of Parliamentary Privilege to say that a worker- who he apologised to for falsely accusing him of rape- had committed sexual assault.
In the Housetonight during the annual review of Parliamentary Service, forwhich he is the responsible Minister, Mallard sort to paint himself on the side of the victims and the opposition as not, this is despite ad6 he has never spoken to the woman complainant at the centre of the saga.

  This is not surprising and I support the staff. Modern “banks” are no longer like banks of the past and there is little protection for staff. A perfect example of the dangers faced by bank staff even in an urban setting is provided by the now closed ASB branch in Mairangi Bay. A branch bank that had limited security and was robbed more than once before it was closed down. So what hope for a rural branch bank and its staff? It is a sad reflection on New Zealanders that this is happening, and until we address the causes in society such occurrences will continue.

So this chap who was labelled a rapist by Mallard has been found to be guilty of sexual assault.

But unlike any other citizen of NZ, he has not been found guilty in a Court of Law…. He has been found guilty within the confines of Parliament.

Has any lawyer checked over the evidence of his guilt?
Has the man been tried in front of a jury of his peers?

Who next will this Labour Government find guilty of an unproven crime ?

    I don’t understand National’s plan here. There are so many things they could focus on. Government lack of delivery, Maori separatism, you name it. So why focus on this? They cannot win because they don’t have the numbers, and they are not going to damage the Government because the public don’t care – this is pure beltway stuff.

  I guess it is Labours long term goal of being able to being judge, jury, and (social) executioner if they so decree it.
  
  And if the court finds them wrong they’ll just brush it away as a technicality, reposition the judgement to suit, or flatly disagree. And worse, the sheeple will eat it up, not care, and move on. Until it’s their turn under Labours spotlight, and they’ll wonder why no one is standing up for them.

  Good article.
  He mentions Professor Jim Flynn’s book which I read recently. I could not believe that Professor Flynn would fall victim to the cancel culture but on reading it and seeing the borax he poked at the universities of the United States I can understand why they would be so upset. As well as those who “teach” in the areas of “Black Studies” and “Womens Studies”.

A Newsroom article points out – (if you have had breakfast already and are on a sugar burst to handle this) –
Attempts to interpret Te Tiriti for contemporary purposes after nearly 200 years are inevitably more of a matter of imagination than of recovery. Thus the authors of He Puapua claim that Te Tiriti demands extension of the authority of rangitiratanga deep into the heart of kawanatanga. In an alternative interpretation, it is that very extension that would be a breach of Te Tiriti.

This is on a grander scale than the “h” that prolonged and bitter argument saw finally inserted into the place name “Whanganui”, so some changed then to pronouncing that word with a hint of an “eff” in it to acknowledge the “wh”. However an expert authority on Te Reo informed me that according to his understanding of dialects, the “h” in fact was silent, and so in a spoken language was a totally pointless change.

The relevance of a silent “h”, to the issue of He Puapua is that followed to the extent outlined in the Report, He Puapua actually falls outside the written version of the Treaty and also denies the Treaty’s accepted interpreted “principles”, and so is another “effing” mistake, but one of much vaster error if adopted.

    Benedict: Quite so Sir…and here’s a prediction: Asian New Zealanders – who comprise roughly the same % of our population as Maori – are eventually going to get very pissed off at their tax dollars being used for things they manage very well themselves without any government help.
    
    The best example is language: every Asian I interact with speaks his or her parents’ language fluently…in the case of Chinese, often it is TWO languages besides English: both Cantonese and Mandarin. And their parents manage to teach their children without $1 of taxpayer money.

  There are regional variances in pronunciation. Tariana Turia is from Wanganui and does not pronounce the ‘h’ even in words like ‘whanau’. She would never say ‘Fonganui’ as people are doing now.

    One who pushed so heavily for the change – Ken Mair- was not born or raised in W(h)anganui.
    
    I predicted the decline of west-coast pronunciation yonks ago in my submission to the NZ Geographic Board…
    
    Well, that’s the price the iwi of the west-coast of NZ have paid to get a written form of their pronunciation standardised.
    East Coast (Ngati Porou) rulz.
    
    So far it has only been pakeha who try to correct my pronunciation… East coast Maori don’t seem bothered that I don’t always voice an “f” when speaking a word containing wh.

        Actually it was brought up that his mother was scottish….a spokesman for the occupation Mair was part of said he embraces his ‘maoridom’ and had forgone his pakeha whanau….no other questions/queries were raised, that was it end of discussion.
        Heard he ended up in a maori study job at some uni after the occupation, also heard the whites in the class were pilloried so much most left (from a white teacher with british heritage…only in NZ!)

  Yvette: Your advisor re dialects is quite right: in te reo as she is spoke in the WANGANUI area, the “h” in its new name is silent…or almost so…linguists would called it “an aspirated W sound”. (You exhale sharply as you say the W )
  
  How do I know all this? I sat next the the Maori Party – before it became te Paati Maori – and behind Tariana Turia in parliament 10 years ago when the change happened.
  
  In short, as you say, inserting an “h” which is silent into a spoken language is utterly pointless…but then so much involving the new and improved version of te ao Maori is these days.
  
  The members of the Maori Battalion – all of whom were bilingual – wouldn’t recognise the country they proudly fought for. And that country was NEW ZEALAND…it was on their shoulder flashes.

  I’m not at all sure what goes on with the effing of “wh”, but here’s my take.
  
  There is no traditional written form of Maori. Thus, when various colonial linguists etc set up shop in NZ and tried to capture the language, they started writing down stuff phonetically where they could.
  
  Unfortunately different languages have different sounds, so phonetics don’t always work.
  
  The same happened when African languages (including the Zulu and Xhosa I am familiar with).
  
  In many languages, h is used as a softener. For example in the word Xhosa itself. In English we have “where, why, who” etc.
  
  So when the linguists encountered the funny new sound (whatever it was) they’d needed a way to codify it.
  
  If it really was a soft F, then why not “fh”, why “wh”?
  
  Ultimately, when these words are borrowed by NZ English they are no longer Maori words. They are NZ English words and we get to say them however we want – just like Paris, pork, beef,…

As a major part of the NZ economy is debt its game over. Overseas lenders will not continue to pour money into NZ without an increase in interest rates. Without forever increasing debt levels NZ’s economy badly stalls.

Grant Robertson, the fat controller, will order the RBNZ to keep interest rates low will make matters worse. With the Lab/gweens there is a back log of shrill reactionary stupidity building. As things get worse the stupid becomes policy.

    If you do not understand that overheating an economy reduces unemployment then you don’t understand much.
    
    It’s all very well artificially stimulating an economy but it is like sugaring up a kid. When you stop (as you have to eventually) it all goes bad.
    
    It also drives up house prices and inflation. It makes money more mobile so tends to take wealth offshore (eg. through importing) and tends to make the rich richer and the poor poorer.

Is “Maori people” any person with a Maori ancestor or is that only people who “identify” as Maori. Ethnicity is not binary. What if you mostly have european ancestors and white skin but do have a maori ancestor do you go to a Maori or European gp or is it your choice? If as a mother I don’t have Maori ancestry but my kids do, do we have to visit separate gp’s. Will my husband and kids with a Maori ancestor get vaccinated or receive medical treatment before me. If I have kids from different fathers with different ethnicities will they go to different schools?

    Oh dear God… I’m pretty sure I’m the only person here that truly understands the cost to set up and run a medical school: including staff, infrastructure, experiential education etc. Plus they NEVER run in the black. EVER. They are always paid for by other schools (commonly a big chunk of Commerce, depending on o/seas students seats) and/or centralization of budgets. We need more GPs, specialists and rural doctors in NZ, but this is NOT the way to get it done.

        Let me put it this way, in 2006 Class II lab space (research) was running at $US7000 per sq. foot to build and Class I teaching space $US4,000 per sq. foot [in the USA, which has cheap build, so you can add a “NZ premium” to that). I cannot imagine its got any cheaper. Anatomy labs require special cadaver storage. A med school at a minimum needs Depts of Medicine, Physiology (or Physiol/Pharmacol), Clinical Biochemistry (with or without Biochem), Immunology w or w/o molecular medicine, Cell Biology, Anatomy (or Anat/Phys), Surgery (may be in Med), Anesthetics (may be with Pharmacol), Pediatrics, ObGyn, Dermatology (may be with Anat), Psychiatry.. (I’ve probably missed some). Each of these departments needs min ~3-5 qualified people (Lecturer/Senior Lecture/Assoc Prof, Reader, Prof) with both science and medical degrees, plus secretarial/admin support. Then there will be a Dean, Assoc Dean Academic, Assoc Dean Research, Assoc Dean Grad/Post Doc, Assoc Dean Maori. Then there needs to be an Experiential unit for house surgeon placement and the earlier rotations. Plus parking. Plus IT. Plus Educational technology unit. Plus buildings and grounds maintenance/support. Plus Security. Plus a ridiculously low teacher/student ratio by normal uni standards. Post Grad students are needed (where else to get Teaching Assistants/Lab Demonstrators)… it goes on… On the research side, takes about 250K to set up EACH research lab and about 100K a year to keep them running. Also for shared facilities: we’ve just upgraded our analytical suite (core facility) and a single instrument (UHPLC/MS) cost 900,000 Canadian (incl taxes). It goes on…
        
        Better off to get Otago & AKL to get their fingers out off their nether regions and introduce a dispersed rural and remote program (distance learning in part, in person in part) into the provinces. My institution has done this and rural GPs are coming back, because they NEVER LEFT. And/or require immigrant doctors to spend X years out of the main centers and/or pay off NZ student loans if they are bonded to NZ for Y years.

    That’s the proposed uni with the model of starting with any other degree then doing a shortened conversion course to upgrade to a medical degree.
    
    Think: Cindy could upgrade her communications degree to being a doc in 3 years! Or for that matter any of the other basket weaving degrees could do that.

    I recall a similar line in a Union publication after Don Brash’s Orewa speech. They “explained” to their more gullible members that a person could not understand Dr Brash’s meaning by reading his words themselves. They then proceeded to “interpret” for the benefit of their members.
    Needless to say, their interpretation bore little resemblance to a plain English reading of the words.

      As a generalised statement, NZers of all stripes have bent over backwards to extend a helping hand to our fellow Maori countrymen and women, particularly over the last 40 years.
      
      Today there is nothing stopping Maori excelling in any field of endeavour they choose – should they have a mind to. As I might add have many Maori been doing ever since others arrived here 250 years ago.
      
      But to actively call for new and totally separate ‘systems’ whether they be in health, governance, justice or whatever is a step too far and will bring more downsides than benefits, in my view.
      
      And it’s a disgraceful slur by Ngarewa-Packer and her mates to label as ‘white supremacists’ those New Zealanders who hold legitimate doubts or raise fair questions about this new and disturbing trend.

        Have a look at businesses affected.
        The wackiness was in not recognising the stresses being imposed. A client is suffering terribly. The wage subsidy didn’t cover the actual losses and consequences of lack of business flow. The staff including owners took a hit to their coping ability as well.
        That story would be common throughout NZ among Accountants who are their Tax Season.

  There is more to this story than is being told.
  These staff were offered redeployment into other roles outside of the MIQ system and they refused to take those new jobs.
  So under the new compulsory vaccination order there was no other option but to let them go.
  
  Mysteriously the unions don’t appear to be showing much concern about people being fired. I can’t imagine them being so quiet if it was a National govt making these decisions.

  I notice many references in the story to people being fired, seemingly at little to no notice. If a normal employer does that, it costs them big – for lack of reasonableness. Is the Government not bound by that requirement?

What is different about New Zealanders? In Australia or Taiwan or anywhere I think, if the government proposed that an authority representing a minor ethnicity could veto health care spending for everyone else…. Well there would be hell to pay and the government would lose office.

When the government was reelected I said here that they would keep on testing the waters and then keep doubling down on the madness.

Why are most people indifferent?

In Christchurch I deal with across society. I had a chat last week about the state of New Zealand with a couple in Fendalton. They agreed with me that things are a mess but they don’t care. Their house is soaring in value. They have an expensive EV and an SUV. Their daughter goes to a private school. They can afford any health care they need. So unless the government starts taxing their wealth they don’t care.

At the other end of the spectrum I see couples who have pretty much given up on buying a house. They are living day to day. Debating a Maori health authority is beyond their interests.

New Zealand is going to become a divided society across Maori vs the rest and generations.

Everything Jacinda promised to solve in 2017 was a lie.

In addition there are about half a million swing voters out there who voted for Ardern last October because “she saved us” from the pestilence. Perhaps when it sinks in that they have been deceived and lied to over the government’s secret agenda to establish Maori sovereignty their anger might be aroused. But at the moment they are keen to keep justifying to themselves why they voted for the worst government in New Zealand’s history. Saving face perhaps?

New government procurement policy with a minimum 5% quota for Māori businesses

For those concerned about the influence of documents like He Puapua and the Labour governments move toward providing separatist policies for the benefit of only Maori. This notification came through the GETS (the government’s procurement portal) this morning.

On 3 December 2020, following Cabinet agreement, the Government announced a new progressive procurement policy with a focus on Māori businesses. This policy requires all government agencies that are subject to the Government Procurement Rules (the Rules) to set and report against a target that at least 5% of the total number of their annual procurement contracts are awarded to Māori businesses.

For the purposes of this procurement policy, a Māori business is defined as either a Māori authority as classified by the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) or one that has at least 50% Māori ownership.

This policy is intended to increase the diversity of suppliers engaged by government agencies and to provide more opportunities for Māori businesses to tender for government contracts.

The Ministry is seeking information from Māori and Pasifika Businesses that supply to MFAT currently and those that wish to in the future, to self-identify with the necessary detail to inform our baseline. We are collecting this information via GETS and also via commercial@mfat.govt.nz. The Ministry intends on storing this information for our records to inform our baseline and report against the cabinet target.

OPINION: Parliament descended into farcical scenes on Tuesday night – of which I have never witnessed before.
Speaker Trevor Mallard, Parliament’s most highly ranked official who is meant to be above and beyond reproach and a judge of the rules, took to the floor to double down on his claims of sexual assault against a former Parliamentary staff member.

This is extraordinary because Mallard’s initial claim of rape in 2019 didn’t stack up, and ended up costing taxpayers $300,000 in a payout to the staffer falsely accused and the staffer was forced to quit his job.

Mallard’s playing the game the only way he knows how; a brutal, confrontational approach – basically re-accusing the man of sexual assault.

I have never seen a Speaker take the floor of Parliament like that and use his privileged position like that to settle a score.

Hardly a surprise as since the Universities took over the old Colleges of Education they have made training teachers far more academic. They have also generally done away with the old 3 year teaching degree and now its a one year post-graduate diploma with the assumption that the graduate degree will cover the content knowledge required as well as teach the person how to think critically and write.

Two issues, first with the pressure to push people through are universities lowering their standards – especially for certain groups?
Second a person with a degree is at primary school level expected to teach everything from maths, science, reading through to all the other subjects and they very likely will not have the content knowledge.

Finally in the one year post-graduate course there is limited time and its being crowded out to include things like te rao so all new teachers have a basic knowledge of that language as well there are courses on things like decolonisation.

Longer initial teacher training courses and maybe even the old Teachers Colleges were better placed to teach teachers.

  I’m skeptical that teacher training is a large part of the problem. My form 2 teacher could cover grammar, maths, science, literature, history, even french without great difficulty. The teachers my daughter had at intermediate are people I doubt have ever in their lives achieved in maths or science to any significant level. That is not something you fix by just sending them off on a training course.
  
  The entire economy has changed in 40 years. There are so many more white collar job options now, especially for women, which means we are drawing teachers from a much lower rung on the intellectual ladder than in the past. At upper primary and intermediate the whole system has to change, probably to a two-tier structure with higher paid subject experts and lower paid assistant teachers.

The kid, and his dog, surely must have left a strong trail. Simply even knowing the path they took before the trail was lost could help searchers?

  Truck came up the road and there was a mass exit up to the woolshed.
  Including, as it turned out, Miss 3.
  She was not going to be left behind. No one saw her leave the house or go missing.
  Alarm raised.
  All available started looking, and looking. Calling and calling. No response.
  Time went by. Panic setting in.
  Eventually, head honcho let off the farm dogs.
  Tip the huntaway quickly found the child.
  She had slipped off the side of the road and was lying quietly in a bush – out of sight.
  With Tip looking over the edge and woofing.

Mallard made two statements originally on May 22.
1 – Mallard made his first comment in relation to the Debbie Francis review of Parliament, which mentioned behaviour that Mallard interpreted as rape
2 – And later in the day when a new investigation was opened and the man was stood down, Mallard did say a danger to women had been removed from the building.

The “new investigation” initiated by Parliamentary Service boss Gonzalez-Montero, who advised the accused Parliamentary staffer of the decision to re-open an older investigation and suspended him from work. The staff-member quit and has argued that he was constructively dismissed from his job.

Mallard later apologised for his comments (after a cost of $330,000 to taxpayers)– and so has excused the staffer while it appears Parliamentary Service manager Gonzalez-Montero may still be dealing with the handling of a complaint separate to the Francis Review, and in which Gonzalez-Montero has involved the Police.

Is the Gonzalez-Montero investigation complete, and if so what is the result and how does it relate to Mallard’s present statements?
Or, if ongoing, does Mallard’s apology interfer with the outcome of the Gonzalez-Montero inquiry, and is Mallard’s reversal of the sense of his apology even more reprehensible?

  If you read last night’s goings-on, you’ll see that the accused chap has started an Employment case…this seems to be Mallard’s excuse for not making his accusations of sexual assault out in the public arena.
  
  Hon MICHAEL WOODHOUSE: —as a consequence of this—so far; quite right, Mr Simpson. I’d like an update. I’ve heard that there has been another $7,000 of legal fees that have been paid. And we now know that the $331,000, as it was in December, and the extra $7,000 is not the end of the story, because we have had a revelation that there is a separate legal process under way, which is almost certain to cost the taxpayer more money, and that is—I now know and the chief executive wasn’t prepared to say it, but it is a personal grievance under the Employment Relations Act—that he told the Governance and the Administration Committee, on 10 March, that he was not prepared to settle. In fact, the Minister answered a written question about whether he thought settlement could be achieved before reaching the Employment Court. The one-word answer was “No.” When I asked Mr Gonzalez-Montero, “Why?”, he was quite bullish; he said he would rather lose the case and be right than settle with this fellow. Now, that is, I think, a reflection of a process that is going to lead to a significant sum of money needing to be paid by the taxpayer. It’s not his money. It’s not Mr Speaker’s money, either. It’s the taxpayers’ money.
  
  If the case was so strong, why, two years later, has this not been settled? Then, we could hear the evidence rather than a Speaker standing up under privilege and accusing somebody of serious sexual assault, and that is it. If only it were that easy.
  
  I’d like to know how much money we are on the hook for. And given the proximity of the Speaker to his chief executive, and that they seem to be hand in glove, does he believe that the response the select committee was given about a steadfast refusal to settle in the face of a cause of action that seems to have some merit is an appropriate response?

I remember when

The closing of the branch of Westpac in the Plaza in Palmerston North sounded better without the picture.
This pans out to show the union spokesperson standing outside the branch.
There is an ATM on the wall so the first thought as to the danger disappears. They are probably handling less cash than the average shop in the complex.
So the main danger is probably the same as many businesses – irate customers.

I remember when

The just released Ministry for the Environment’s report scores exotic forestry highly for its low impact on soils.
Analysis found only 11% of the exotic forest soils below macroporosity target range, whereas 75% of lifestyle blocks had a problem.
Likewise only 12% of the exotic forest soils had higher than target rate for phosphate. This compares favourably with 61% above target range for dairy and cropping properties.
Is that great news and timing for the Government’s biofuel push.

  I presume you are talking about the word “maunga”. It is just the Maori word for mountain. If you are going to use the name Taranaki instead of Egmont it would seem to be acceptable to use Maunga instead of Mount as well.

An interesting move by the Govt. to freeze the salaries (above $100,000 pa) of public servants for 3 years. Perhaps this is a recognition at last of the privileged position the public service have engineered for themselves by way of permanent employment, regular salary increases, and job flexibility. Bureaucrats were noticeably unaffected financially by Covid constraints (work from home or do nothing on full pay). When job security and ‘perqs’ are taken into account salaries in the Government and Local Authority bureaucracies are way out of kilter with the private sector.

      Oddly enough, the first reports I saw didn’t say. I see there are now updated reports on Stuff and NZ Herald and the union focus seems to be more on those who were front line workers during the covid response, which is more what I would expect.
      
      Minister Hipkins even noted that the private sector has been holding wages and that public sector wage growth had outpaced the private sector for a few years, so this would allow some catch up!

Every month the University of Alabama at Huntsville analyses data from satellites from America’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Organisation which circle the earth measuring thermal emissions from oxygen in the air.

“This year they’ve noticed a fall in the world’s temperature, and now, overnight, they said there was yet another fall in April,” Mr Bolt said.

“The world’s temperature is now 0.05 degrees below the average for the last decade of last century. We have got cooler, not warmer.

  The Satellites doing the measurement were created and launched by NASA in 1979.
  Its now administered by Scientists at the University.
  (you need 30 years of data for a TREND to be recognized so 40+ years is good)
  They use Radiosonde Technology to measure the temperature in the Troposphere where warming is supposed to be happening.
  Its acknowledged as the most accurate form of temp measurement.
  Reading Thermometers manually is open to error (The Science of Metrology)

  It goes up and goes down- pretty easy to spot the El Nino peaks.

  Ha ha Jacinda Ardern give Trevor Mallard a grilling over his behavior last night, this is the joke of the week, it would a cup of tea and a laugh and to blame National for behavior and ask for bipartisanship in trying to solve sexual harassment in Parliament is a bit rich after what happen out her office with a senior staff member and the promise to get them Justice is just another sad example of our Prime Minister’s way of disgrace fully using herself as a example.

  Interesting how both Ardern and Hipkins deflect away from Labour (i.e. their lack of action) by blaming others.
  
  Eg “Ardern also slammed the Opposition’s “inappropriate” behaviour” and Hipkins “I don’t think it reflected well on Parliament as a whole”.
  
  Huh, what’s the Opposition got to do with Labour trying to sweep Mallard’s antics under the carpet, and what’s this got to do with the Opposition when it was Mallard himself voluntarily re-litigating this issue (under Parlimentary privilege yesterday)?
