Let’s face it our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is a compulsive liar and is prepared to blame anyone for her own misgivings, so where is Journalism in New Zealand that should be holding her to account.
Now for the second time in six months she is calling on others to “nark” on friends, families and acquaintances so she can take the accolades of stopping Covid -19.
Here is some of the drivel headlines in this morning’s media.
” Ardern is a great communicator but clearly not everyone is listening. ”
” A white shade of stale- Covid- 19 youth message criticized as too generic.”

Now younger people were those that gave our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern a large majority and a second term in Goverment and by the sounds of things are not happy with Jacinda Ardern’s continual attacks on them and the blame game that comes with it.

    Are you forgetting “Stuffed” has aligned itself with the pursuit of reporting the Maori side of issues? Hence their appalling piece on behalf of the KFC worker.
    
    Thus, the KFC worker is believed automatically, and the claim she needs an apology from Jacinda for not being told…etc., is completely valid in the eyes of Stuffed.
    
    In reality, Stuffed lost credibility when they started their crusade and this example only adds further to their lack of credibility as an objective news source.
    
    However, I believe it is reprehensible that Jacinda and Bloomfield have stooped to naming/identifying cases in the way they have. It is bad enough we are at Lvl3, but the root of the issue is, it is Jax’s policy and Bloomfield et al who have let the virus it the community, not the KFC worker or the 21 year old who went to the gym. Responsibility for this mess is with Ardern, Robertson, Chippie, and Bloomfield who have chosen to play politics with the public, not these stupid South Auckland kids.

        Hilarious in the nz media stuff and nzh sites today. Trying to say now that the flouting of the law by these south Auckland families is all the fault of the messaging by the government departments. Are these people who didn’t isolate untouchable? Imagine if it were some white NZers on the North shore that had transgressed.
        
        The maori party woman leader seems to be calling for two different treatments of COVID messaging based on race. Of course it’s not these people’s fault, they didn’t know how serious it was because of the poor messaging. Of course not.
        
        Also Ardern totally ducking for cover saying it’s the police’s job to prosecute, not hers. Imagine if National were governing. Would then be all their problem and then anything implemented would have been construed as bullying.
        
        Nz will never get out of this mess till they start taking some harsher penalties for breaching isolation rules. Just like has been done in the likes of Taiwan. Otherwise this thing is going to never be contained with the liberal stance being taken by the NZ government to controlling it. Clearly the ‘honesty box’ approach is not going to work.

        Read an interesting story this morning about the young poet at Bidens inauguration – Amanda Gorman. Now I cannot comment on the poetry – not my strong point – but there has been a kerfuffle over the translation of her works. Apparently there was an ‘uproar’ because the dutch translator they hired (quite a successful writer apparently – Booker prize winner no less) was white – specifically that the translator was not “young, female and unapologetically black” – shit you not, the actual complaint.
        
        Now please correct me if I am wrong, but would this not be ageist, sexist and racist in a perfect trifecta of what the actual fuck? Can you imagine someone being fired from a role because they are not old, male and white? We would rightly complain and there would be no excuses for such a decision.
        
        What the fuck is wrong with the world?
        
        I grew up thinking racism and sexism were wrong – no exceptions, completely unacceptable and wrong. The worst part is the left – as lets face it, it usually is the ‘progressive left’ – cannot see the hypocrisy and inherent contradiction in their views where they scream out about a form of discrimination and solve it by …… well …… erm …. promoting discrimination. I say again – what the actual fuck is going on with that?
        
        As i said – clearly not just a NZ phenomena!!

        Batman: I don’t know why you would be downticked for that comment…you are spot on, although of course the idea that the brain did not fully mature until age 25 is a comparatively recent discovery.
        
        I started in the oilfield in the North Sea at age 18. I was present on rig when two men died, and half a dozen others were seriously injured. Of course that was never going to happen to me.

      There are two sides to the story…. Ardern takes her advice from the ministry of health… the ministry of health says the family were contacted verbally, by writing, and by text.
      
      If the ministry of health has provided incorrect information to Ardern, she can hardly be called a liar.
      
      If someone told you something which was a lie, and you repeated that to a 3rd party, does that make you the liar?
      
      You need to get a grip on reality.
      
      To prove Ardern lied, you need to see what the MOH told her, and compare that with what she told the public. You don’t have that evidence.

      So you think someone living in a house with persons who have been asked to test and isolate until their results are confirmed is sanctioned to be a possible transmitter in public?
      Here we go look at this from the person herself:
      “The family had been told to get tested after the first student tested positive on February 14. But while her two siblings were told to self-isolate, she says she was not.”
      You might believe that someone living in a house which eventually has more than 1 positive case of Covid has no clue that she might be a spreader before she was tested. I don’t.
      She may well have lived with her symptoms until her sickness worsened, found herself in the crap, and needing a test. At which point she outs herself on FB and blames others. Perhaps she should be blaming her 2 siblings who apparently did the right thing, but that wouldn’t work either.

    Whether someone is or isn’t a compulsive liar is a matter of fact, not consensus. While I wouldn’t say she is compulsive, she lies and obfuscates frequently when forced into a corner to protect her sorry ass. Ardern is the epitome of someone who has got to where she is because she is mediocre at best, amongst a sea of utter incompetence.

  Her communication skills are overrated. In an emergency, people respond to their leaders and the crisis makes the leader look good. The litmus test is how engaged people remain as the months and years (in the case of long wars) pass. Regardless of what one thinks about COVID or lockdowns, people are tuning out of Ardern. This could be damaging to Labour this term if it becomes a trend.

  Who is lying? The “communications” sent to the teens are disputed so why didn’t the journos ask for the evidence. They said that LETTERS were sent to the family on Feb 17 and 19th. WTF?!? There is a deadly spreadable pandemic and our only hope is elimination and billions have been spared to stop it. You can’t get through on the phone, and you send a letter?! A letter?!! That takes three days. Why not send one of the army around to deliver it, and get a signature on a contract abut the terms of isolation and the penalties. And while you’re there slap an orange quarantining do not enter or there’s a $10000 fine sign on their fence. And why is a copy of the letter showing the advice people should have received not published in the article.
  
  Then the authorities said they sent a text. Really. Even my hairdresser says push Y to accept, or N for No to confirm you read it and agree. The contents of that text is disputed with the teens saying that their advice was that family didn’t need to isolate. Could the Journalists not have looked at the text and verified it. Or even screenshotted it and printed it.
  
  Ardern said “… most family members in the Auckland cluster were asked to be tested and remain in isolation until they received their results.”
  
  “most people” “asked” It’s all very wishy washy.
  All people were emphatically told. Their houses had orange stickers. Their phones received alert signals. They signed contracts. We rang each day to confirm if those 4 households were complying and if they needed groceries delivered..     I agree, the process is flaky. I don’t see evidence of lies from the PM , but the whole system of managing outbreaks is poor. Typical incompetence by labour though. Kiwibuild, 1 billion trees, electric car’s, housing people in motels, etc…

  Plenty of people have misfortune thrust upon them like a ticking time bomb. I have a grand nephew who developed diabetes when he was about 2 or 3. Poor wee bugger’s life was saving one time by a helicopter ambulance dash from the farm the Ch’ch.
  A lot of kids develop diabetes, cancer, crook teeth, obesity, for one reason or another not their own.

Free agency of the voter and full access to all ideas are both necessary and sufficient conditions for any functioning democracy. The former is also dependent on the latter. The Prime Minister has doubled down on her comments about Case L, the KFC worker:

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern denies claims the COVID-19 case who worked at KFC wasn’t told to self-isolate.

The KFC worker, known as Case L, told Newshub she’s upset the Prime Minister said she broke the rules when she was never told to self-isolate.

Case L had family members who were considered a “casual plus” contact of the first Papatoetoe High School student who tested positive.

The family had been told to get tested after the first student tested positive on February 14. But while her two siblings were told to self-isolate, she says she was not.

The Prime Minister on Monday refused to apologise and said a request was included for household members to get tested and keep an eye out on any symptoms.

I hope the PM is more certain of her facts than her caucus colleague Trevor Mallard was when he falsely accused a parliamentary staffer of being a rapist. As a taxpayer, I really don’t feel like funding another defamation action.

  Letters? Which in Auckland can take five days to deliver!
  Really?
  Contact tracing should not just be by telephone. It should be boots on the ground door knocking with a racially diverse range of door knockers.
  MOH and the dhb seem to forget that South Auckland and on particular Otahuhu, Papatoetoe and Manukau are the most racially diverse areas in the country and for many English (or Maori) is not a first or even second language.

    I would have thought that, oh, late January, early February last year would have been a good time for a responsible Minister (remember them?) to establish a contact group of community leaders in south Auckland, given the know issues in the area: poor health, poor literacy, overstayers, overcrowding, essential workers, close to a border and a major hospital, etc. Getting the message out could easily accompany the Sunday morning service and churches tend to have networks of people who can check on/shop for the isolating, etc.

    Why have past and present governments let in people who don’t speak or understand proper English? I thought health and safety was a huge issue in the workplace now. If workers can’t discern hazard or warning signs, isn’t WorkSafe meant to be on it? Or will the HRC condemn employers for being racist if they DONT hire semi-literate non-fluent English speakers now and health and safety be damned? (This is an issue at my work but no one can say anything.)

    Counties Manukau Health don’t seem to use NZPost.
    Any communication we have had has been by way of DX Mail. I often see letters being delivered by someone from that organization on a motorbike around the neighbourhood.
    The last one we received was dated 23-2-2012 & I noticed it the letterbox two days later.

  It is about 1 minute and 45 seconds into this report.
  Why they didn’t seem to contact her later if they were changing their mind is not explained.

        Ian – do think there is something special about NZ that the vast majority of people won’t turn into snitches as has happen if every other country that has gone down a similar road.

      MPs (including the PM) don’t fly on RNZAF aircraft. Like everyone else they use Air NZ or Jetstar.
      
      The only exception is special overseas trips by the PM when the B757’s are used. Typically APEC or the Pacific trips. Which haven’t happened in the last year.

        I think an exception to that is that each week the RNZAF do a series of passenger flights up and down the country for NZDF staff and family, and I believe some PMs have occasionally hitched rides on those flights. Not sure if Ardern does. I think Key did once or twice.

  There are two problems here. People are sick of this inane waffling from the news conferences.
  
  I never cared what was said from the beginning. It seemed pretty simple, don’t do anything dumb, take precautions. Whats happening is that there is very complex and long winded messaging around a very simple issue. Whenever she comes on the TV I just turn it off. Mostly don’t watch NZ TV any more at all. So, point one is the messaging it too long, it is all about Jacinda, and that is of no help to anyone. So, people are ignoring it.
  
  Second, she is now picking on this KFC worker. Most likely this person should have known better, but I think what is more likely is that the MOH and whoeever else has not followed up, just like all the previous failures of testing and notiication botch ups that have occured over the last year, it’s happened again. and this time Cindy is being called out on it, she most probably does not have any of the proof she says she has (because she is a lair and it’s quite obvious). So, it will be interesting to see what comes of this.

  I thought the experts were uncertain about that. I know they agree that it reduces the harm the virus will cause, but not necessarily that it stops vaccinated people from transmitting it.

    Nope. There is now excellent data from Israel. It is 90% effective in preventing transmission. Which is very impressive. This is gold standard evidence from 10,000 odd people.

I see in today’s Herald a quote from our wonder woman which says –
“PM: Not for politicians to make prosecution decisions”.
She makes every other one – but wait – South Auckland is one of her main voter bases, and Goff agrees with her – he would.
Why not ? – because the Police at the behest of Bloomfield’s mob in South Auckland would cause unmitigated panic due to the thousands of “unknowns” there. Overstayers possibly !
Having said that how will the government be able to vaccinate many there as they technically do not exist.
How will these people get tested as they do not exist. Will government dispensation be granted to overstayers.
When it is time to vaccinate how will they be found ? Ardern says not her but Police’s job.
It is Ash’s job to find them apparently and take the blame for the secrecy which abounds in this area when they exist unvaccinated.
There could be, as suggested, many thousands of such unregistered people.

  Every day several infected people arrive in Mangere, potentially exposing divers, cleaners, security guards, plus a wider circle of airport workers on close to minimum wages.
  As I recall the woman who was the first infected of the current outbreak is a laundry worker, now not pulling in a wage, in a household of six people. And so on. They’re all cooped up together.

Ive been hearing all these experts comment on why its so difficult to get messages across to people in S.Auackland.
Basically what theyve really been saying is that:
1. The cant understand english (bring back the english test for immigrants then)
2. They dont trust anyone in authority except church leaders in their community.
3. They believe every and anything these church leaders tell them – like ‘give us $800 and we will get you citizenship’ and ‘Covid isnt real’
… [ Deleted – OTT casual racism. Mod.] Yes I know everyone thinks they do jobs that arent very nice, but if they werent here then maybe the employers would have to pay more to New Zealanders who can understand english and dont fall for the scams of church leaders.

Super hero Ashley Bloomfield announces we are ‘Ahead of scedule on vaccine rollout’.

Damn easy to be ahead of a scedule that no one knows about, has no numbers and the public dont even know the actual numbers rolled out. Heres a hint, to match the UKs week one rollout numbers (and we are most similar to there health care system) we would need to have done ~6,333 vaccinations in the first week of arrival. My understanding is we did ~167. So go you legends, lucky you had it all planned out so well.

Note unlike those secret governments in the UK and the terrible Trumpian US we don’t bother publishing our rollout out numbers. Labour doesn’t do targets or actuals.

    If you’re going to compere vaccine rates with the UK you might like to compere infection rates too.
    While they might be setting a cracking pace with their vaccine rollout, they have failed terribly, by our standards to protect the population.
    Of course they chose to follow a certain course and that’s their prerogative. Looking back one can see the concept the flawed, but who was to know.

  No point comparing our rate to the UK’s because NZ and UK have received different amounts of vaccine.
  
  Better measure would be how quickly are we administering the vaccines once we receive them.
  
  And note that, because in a triage sense NZ is not a high need country, we don’t expect to receive significant shipments of vaccines until July or so.
  
  Hopefully that can come forward by a month or two, because the production rates are higher than expected when we and other countries entered into purchase agreements.

The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet needs to urgently provide resources for the victims to ensure they understand the findings and the recommendations of the Royal Commission Report. There is considerable disquiet about findings related to the terrorist and also the circumstances which led to the terrorism. The victims are also not aware of the impact of the recommendations, with respect to their own wellbeing [1]

Not everyone understands what seems to be fairly straight forward English.

Of those who were keeping up with covid advice and reports, thousands must have been lost when authorities started talking about “contacts”, “close contacts” and “contact casual plus”.

Ardern’s politicing intro to covid announcements must also loose thousands.

While some South Auckland church members apparently want a community counsellor excommunicated for supporting everyone getting the vaccination, it is likely many watching Ardern’s handling of the KFC worker will be deciding how well they may co-operate.

My screensaver is a picture of my Dad, a 21 year old Flying Officer of the RAF-RNZAF Coastal Command (Bay of Biscay 1942) .. an Ace Navigator.

In the grainy photo Dad is standing dressed in his workday No 3 uniform, with “Hat Officers (1)” pointing at a 2 ft sq hole in the wing root immediately adjacent to the starboard engine of his ASW Lockheed Hudson.

Dad’s aircraft (six crew) had engaged a surfaced submarine, its 20 mm putting up a lethal fusillade of 22 mm HE shells at the attacking Hudson.

The pilot lost it, so Dad with minimal pilot instruction brought the plane home to a safe landing … and won his DFC.

Some have said he deserved a VC!

How the F*ck is that! you unmoored milksop 21 year old dotards! … Not all of yuh … obviously!

Can you believe that?

They have done an appalling job managing covid and communicating their message to the public that its not surprising many people don’t understand the rules in the first place or don’t care.

Locking down Auckland 3 times in 6 months is not doing the PM any favours winning the people over to her.

Well who would have thought? The Australian equivalent, the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, has more than double the funding of Pharmac (adjusted for population), so there is that. It does not need a review. It needs more funding.

Let’s face it, there are so many billions of dollars being spent on utter rubbish, you could cut out a fraction of the rubbish and throw Pharmac another $300 million. I would not be complaining.

        What a load of codswallop. Unions represent the concerns of their members. To blame Little, you would need to show that the union members at Pike River knew of safrty problems, asked thei union to help, and that Little failed to do something.

  You won’t see that in MSM. My guess it will be called racist when in fact it calls for all to be treated equally. Also, it is long past the time when the facts about benefits and the harm they do to certain people and groups are acknowledged and ways to get rid of it worked on.   There is no reason for the claim that a State of the Union speech was meant to have been made by Biden on 23rd Feb.
  All the Constitution says is ‘ the president “shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient,” it does not set a timeline’ and doesn’t even say it has to be a speech.
  Also none of the last six Presidents actually gave a State of the Union Speech in the year they took Office. They may have made a speech to a joint session of Congress but it isn’t called a State of the Union address.

Rocket Lab Ltd has been one of the fastest growing New Zealand businesses ever.

Rocket Lab’s owner, Rocket Lab USA Inc, is merging with Vector Acquisition Corporation and floating on the Nasdaq exchange. This puts its estimated value at $US4.1 billion.

For an idea of the rocket take-off of Rocket Lab Ltd itself, consider the last reported annual result of Rocket Lab for the year ended 31 December 2019. The total equity of the company was $12.8 million.

Rocket Lab was set up in June 2006 by Peter Beck. He will continue as chief executive after the float, which will provide $US900 million cash for the company to build a bigger rocket, the Neutron.

Rocket Labs’ present Electron puts into orbit small satellites of up to 300 kg. The Neutron, which will cost $US200 million to develop, will be of similar capacity to Russia’s Soyuz. The Neutron will have a re-usable booster According to the CNBC article linked to below. It will be launched from a pad in Virginia.

The Herald account of the deal describes Beck as an Aucklander. Perhaps now, but Beck grew up in Invercargill, the third of fourth generation of a Southland engineering and technology family.

Beck 15 months ago told pupils at Invercargill’s James Hargest High School, which he had attended, that he wasn’t always very academic as a child. He went to school because he had too, but life was always about rockets.

“I knew from the day I was born what I wanted to do. I started building rockets from as young as I can remember.”

  Very easy for Vodafone to use ‘Aotearoa’ in their comms and proudly shout, “LOOK AT US! We’re so committed to honouring the Treaty and doing right by Maori.” But it doesn’t seem to be quite so easy for them to actually walk the talk.
  
  I see their marketing boss, Delina Shields, states that for Vodafone, honouring the principles of Te Tīriti o Waitangi means:
  
  “… developing meaningful, enduring and mutually beneficial relationships with Māori as tangata whenua, as well as celebrating and using one of our beautiful national languages, te reo Māori, wherever we can”
  
  Which all sounds very progressive, and like they’re supporting Maori however they can, but what about when it comes to actually putting all that talk into real, meaningful action though? Take a look at the Vodafone board and see how many Maori people you can see:

  Have to say, none of the faces on that board or the names look particularly Maori to me.
  
  Not one.
  
  Oh well, I guess at least they’ve got a good percentage of women in top positions … that is, if you think 33% is ‘good’. I count eight men, and just four women.
  
  Actions speak louder than words, Vodafone, and your actions seem to be at odds with the public image you’re trying to portray. Looks to me like you’re pretty reluctant to promote women to senior positions, and that you point-blank refuse to appoint ANY Maori to board level.
