Wait for it – another hit job on Trump? 😉

Needs something to offset the error of posting the Atlantic hit job on Trump the other day, about which Bolton (no mate of Trumps) ans 20 or so other officials have openly stated that the claims were totally false.

But it sure fitted the narrative.

  You’re lying. Bolton has not said they were totally false. The only aspect disputed is why the trip was cancelled, not all the remarks about losers which multiple people heard.

Grasping at the possibly that he *might* have said it out of earshot of pretty much anyone who was with him that day, who have all gone on record and said they didn’t hear it, is nuts.

        No, Bolton said he never heard President Trump say that. He said he wasn’t there later in the day but it certainly wasn’t said in his presence. Also, I stand by what I said months ago that President Trump will be re-elected. I certainly don’t agree with everything President Trump says but I consider that the outright bashing Trump has endured since his election has actually brought out the worst in him and I don’t blame him. I’m looking forward to liberals breaking down and howling again on election day. I’ve never seen anything like it before.
        
        But I am disappointed Mr Farrar that you have joined their ranks – the ranks of the pink tea cosy wearers. I thought you would be way to smart for that.
        
        The US and the world would have been in a much worse state had Clinton been elected and you can bank on a war if Biden ever got elected but I think Americans are way too smart for that.

    Here are the two relevant paragraphs from the start of the Atlantic article (the rest is unrelated filler):

    Bolton and others have refuted the second para, and the Atlantic gives no actual evidence to support it.

    Name them. Even Deputy Chief of Staff Zach Fuentes (an aide to General Kelly, who was present) said he never heard Trump say anything like that. And that Kelly, a military man, never would have stood for it, either.

Equally many of those who were there and are not Trumpistas in any way have said they did not hear him make those statements. Given Trump’s reverence for those who have served in the military (McCain excepted!) it does seem unlikely.

    David – I am unsure why you are holding on to this. The trip was cancelled because of weather i.e. it would be hard for helicopters to land. Those in the room all say they never heard him say that the soldiers were “losers”. Only those who want the story to be true are holding on. It has been debunked over and over. Move on before you get a full blown case of TDS.
    
    Also, we should be aware of the industry military complex as Eisenhower warned the American people.

    Mr Farrar, please present your evidence that “multiple people heard” those words, otherwise you’re lying and what’s more, you know it.
    
    A single anonymous source accessed by different people is NOT sufficient to establish anything.
    
    And the whole premise of the story in the Atlantic (you should read it for a start) is that Trump did not want to go to Belleau Wood cemetery and stand in the rain, and that set the scene for the remarks you are claiming he said. Yet we have evidence that has public for 2 years that he could NOT go as planned by helicopter because of the weather, and that a road journey was also out of the question. That thoroughly undermines the theory, there is no evidence that he did not want to go, only evidence that he could not. That evidence BTW was produced under FOIA refs in 2018 by the NYT, so the Atlantic certainly should have been aware of it, and that makes their “mistake” malicious nonsense.
    
    Bolton has not scotched the rumour totally as he has stated that such words were not uttered in his presence. He cannot of course give first hand evidence of anything that happened when he wasn’t present, elementary evidence 101. Others however have gone on the record as well saying that no such words were uttered, so you would have to ask who WAS around to hear it when no one else did. Anonymous sources are not credible, or do you believe that John Key set up and was responsible for the H Fee transaction, or so several anonymous people have said. Key must be guilty, no ?
    
    As for the standing in the rain, Trump did exactly that next day at a different ceremony, so not apparently a likely reason either.

    And on the comment about the generals, sounds a lot like he is echoing Eisenhower with his well known departing speech about the military/industrial complex. And Eisenhower had some experience, I believe, of generalship.

    Probably so but he’s human like the rest of us. He has serious flaws for sure but that doesn’t mean that absolutely everything he does is automatically evil. He’s not a cartoon character and it’d be refreshing if what he does and says was assessed on its merits (or otherwise) rather than just knee-jerk assuming it’s bad.         I would suggest that the Nazi-Soviet pact was a rather special case. Both wanted it initially, Hitler to get access to oil (especially) and Stalin to avoid war while re-establishing competence in the army (badly affected by the purges in the late 1930’s and shown up in the war with Finland) and to obtain otherwise very scarce manufactured goods.
        
        Hitler however had no intention of sticking to it for any length of time from the start, so the normal considerations of economic self interest did not have as big an effect as they normally would. A bit the exception that “proves” (as in tests as the original meaning has it) the rule.

Certainly in Japan, bureaucrats who have favored certain companies are not paid at the time for their favors, but after retiring at 60, they tend to wind up in plum positions employed by these same companies on very good salaries.

Critical Thinker got there ahead of me with the Eisenhower quote, which of course has been quoted by Lefties and the Far Left for decades now.

This – along with protectionist measures of the type promoted by Walter Mondale in his landslide loss to Reagan in 1984 – are a big part of the reason why the US Left find it so hard to combat Trump on key issues. He’s simply saying what they’ve been saying for decades.

And to be fair to Trump (and as others have pointed out above) this is not tailored by polls or political advisors or trying to please a caertain group of voters. This is actually what Trump believes as he has said much the same thing for decades.

He’s basically a standard Republican Isolationist from the 1930’s/40’s and voters knew that in 2015/16, even if they might not have articulated it that way.

Which is the problem for the Liberal Internationalist wing of the GOP: they thought they had defeated this decades ago but mistakenly continued on with it after the Cold War, not realising that the ground was shifting under them. American voters accepted all this post-WWII and even into the Gulf War.

But myriad actions from Somalia (Blackhawk Down) to Kosovo to Iraq, and Libya, and especially with the seemingly endless Afghanistan conflict have changed the attitudes of American voters. Forty years ago, even twenty years ago, Trump would have found no traction on this issue and indeed did not after talking about on Oprah and other such media platforms.

So the idea that Republican voters will be turned off Trump by this sort of talk because it aligns with decades of smilar Leftist cant, is now a fantasy.

In fact the irony of this is that had Hillary or Joe started talking the same way they would have not only solidified their Left base, they might have got GOP voters in those precious swing states whose small towns (and small-conservative values) push so many young men and women into the military. Those people have keenly felt the sacrfices of the last twenty years, as Sarah Palin well knew when she spoke of this at the 2008 RNC.

You could see it coming then, but it’s Trump who may well garner those votes.

Funny, I don’t see this as a hit job on Trump. The answer was too easy to pick, because the statement is true. And of the four people listed, the one by far the most likely to state the truth is Trump.

I actually thought DPF had done some serious reflection, been to see a counselor or taken a red pill, and now had his eyes open to the truth. I still hold out hope!

  Hell’s bells, when Trump first announced a travel ban relating to China he was labelled a xenophobic extremist by Biden and Pelsosi (and others), and they encouraged wide scale mixing on the basis that there was nothing to worry about !

Yes but he wasn’t really calling out the war machine was he. In fact he has been goose that laid the golden egg for the military industrial complex increasing expenditure on his own military and boasting of the great deals he had negotiated to supply arseholes like MBS with all the killing toys he could want. What you are witnessing is the rat cunning of a con man working his mark, in this case his base. He knows the society is sick of the wastage of war, hence his pretence of concern. Somehow though, he can’t find the words or will to stop the gathering of armed thugs calling themselves militia working to threaten civil society in the US.

  I don’t think his words alone will stop the fascists like Antifa and BLM rioting and looting. That’s a Democrat run and controlled operation, designed to ensure that “their” black voter base doesn’t get uppity and try to leave the reservation and vote for Trump.
  
  The group most negatively affected by Burn Loot and Murder has been the black middle class small business owners. Just the “wrong sort” of blacks who just might not vote for Joe, and hence aren’t black and so can be attacked with a clear conscience.
  
  Trump could invoke the insurrection act and take federal action, but is the unrest at that level yet ? The riots are taking place in almost exclusively Democrat controlled areas because they require the local authorities to be complicit. They’ll stop once the Democrats realise that it is likely costing them the election.

With this commentary I’m not sure you really appreciate the sentiment in the US for forever war generals, who not only failed to actually win the war, but cost the Treasury trillions of dollars. Then when they leave the military collect handsome sums from the very bloated defence establishment they had a hand in creating.
Meanwhile people have sons and daughters with terrible injuries, PTSD etc. as a result of said wars that did little in terms of strategic benefit for the US. Those people (until recently) got very little.
