The three men murdered by the “lone wolf” terrorist in Reading UK were all gay. Why do you think this fact was left out of all the news reports? Or does the media think that the victims just happened to be chosen at random? Evidently, one of those killed was big in the local BLM campaigns, so they weren’t rightwing provocateurs. Can you imagine the same non-reporting happening if the murderer was wearing a Union flag waistcoat or a MAGA hat? Has the hierarchy of victimhood been revised that much so gay white men are below homophobic Islamist killers?

    There are many things you could pin violent outbursts on. Religious indoctrination, cultural programming of intense hatred being two of them. Usually when gay people are attacked it is by a person who is trying and failing to repress their gayness.
    
    But it is the height of smug nonsense to point the finger at cannabis. Cannabis is not linked to violence, as anybody who has ever been within a country mile of it knows.
    
    As for the person below blaming the riots on cannabis, correlation is not causation. You may have heard of a chap named Floyd.
    
    Honestly, sometimes conservatives are even more outlandishly ridiculous than liberals. The problem with the world today is that both sides have started to embody their caricatures.
    
    Conservatives: greedy grandma selling killjoys who feel a bizarre need to police what other people do with their own consciousness.
    
    Liberals: lazy buggers who expect everything for free, and take no responsibility for anything.
    
    It’s just utterly illogical that you can look at a homophobia based attack and spin around to point at the nearest bit of fun you can find. Unlike cannabis, alcohol is actually linked to violence very, very strongly, and is the cause of most NZ’s domestic violence, but I bet we’re not going to be able to pry your daily drinkies out of your sweaty clawed hands.

      Lol so out of touch. There are numerous studies linking stoners to violence.
      
      This is just this month:
      
      A large study just published by a team from Montreal University in Canada has found that people who regularly smoke cannabis are almost three times more likely to commit a violent offence as those who abstain from the drug.
      
      The study found that over time, prolonged cannabis use profoundly alters the brain, making the user less able to control their temper, and that addicts may also suffer from withdrawal symptoms, making them irritable and prone to lashing out.

Yesterday’s parliamentary questions show how rattled the PM is becoming. In answer to a question from the Opposition Leader, she put down one expert “ I understand Professor Gorman is an expert in occupational health at Auckland University rather than an epidemiologist. “ but then quoted her fangirl “ I note Auckland University infectious disease specialist Dr Siouxsie Wiles said the chances of someone leading to community infection “ who is only a lecturer and also isn’t an epidemiologist. But then when Professor Michael Baker was quoted, she changed her tone. What happens when you aren’t on top of the subject and get trumped.
The meltdown can’t be far away.

  I too noticed the put down of Prof Gorman and the pat on the head for the pink-haired zealot. Basic discrediting technique. I have no idea why this Wiles character receives so much oxygen from the MSM – maybe for her gushing style and sense of self promotion.
  
  What I’d love to hear more detail on from good questioning by Muller is the guts behind this East Polynesian occupation of the land in Auckland. If Winston Peters has scuttled it then GOOD ON HIM. Why no investigative reporting on the rabble leaders involved in this occupation? What jobs do they have, or are we all paying for their lying around doing nothing?

    Why is it a terrible position to be in? These academics belong to research centres etc that compete for government (taxpayer) money. If they show which side they are on they are more likely to get the funding.

      And, in the unlikely event that the CoL is voted out, it will never be her fault.
      I think the CoL has been an absolute disaster for New Zealand, but the cards are still stacked in their favour because so many people are now reliant on the state for subsidies, handout benefits and “kindness”.
      All the CoL propaganda spinners need to say during the election campaign is that they will keep this going for the foreseeable future and imply that a National Government would put universal financial support at risk.
      We now have thousands of extra people coming back to NZ. They will all be looking for jobs, housing, health and education subsidies and various other forms of help.
      How this will will be paid for I have no idea, but the CoL will find a way to buy their votes.

  There are two appalling aspects to this that shames Labour big time.
  
  1. The hardworking, knowledgeable and capable Dr Bloomfield being thrown under the Labour Party bus by a lazy, brainless and incompetent so-called joke of a Health Minister (who also has the audacity to have himself referred to as “Dr” Clark).
  
  2. Dr Bloomfield being let done by Labour and Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern for failing to front up these media conferences at Dr Bloomfield’s side.
  
  This is a typical, cynical, pre-planned Labour Party behavior … put up the PM to the media when it is “good news” situations – but hide her when it is “bad news” situations so that her “image” isn’t tainted, and leave Dr Bloomfield to front foot the media scrum.
  
  Yet again another leadership fail for Jacinda Ardern and the NZLP. Could you ever imagine the likes of John Key and Bill English leaving their officials to face the media on their own, day after day? Of course not, Key and English had integrity and would be there fronting the media (and taking their hits).

    Flynn was set up. His only crime was “lying” to the FBI – eg, they caught him out on a minor fact that he probably couldn’t remember. In handwritten notes they talked about trying to entrap him.
    
    The notes were taken in January 2017, following a meeting with former FBI Director James Comey and Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, according to Fox News.
    
    Priestap’s handwritten remarks were taken down on the heels of a critical interview with the newly installed national security adviser regarding Flynn’s contacts weeks earlier with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak.
    
    “What’s our goal? Truth/Admission or to get him to lie, so we can prosecute him or get him fired?” Priestap wrote. “If we get him to admit to breaking the Logan Act, give facts to DOJ & have them decide. Or, if he initially lies, then we present him [redacted] & he admits it, document for DOJ, & let them decide how to address it.”
    
    They also threatened his family – talked about going after his kids. It’s telling that the FBI dropped all charges against him, finding no case, yet the next day Obama, Biden, Comey, Rice et al were in Obama’s office trying to cobble together charges against him, even using the antique Logan Act (which Biden brought up in the meeting). Very telling that Sztrok’s notes mention Comey saying to Obama that Flynn’s conversations with the Russian Ambassador “Appear Legit”.

    Why did Flynn plead guilty, could it have been that he was running out of money to defend himself (had to sell his house and had spend well over US$1M already, prosecutor had threatened to charge his son – and illegally concealed said threat and agreement not to charge if Flynn himself pleaded guilty from the judge. When the corrupt state comes for you, really you have no protection, you can take your chance on a long sentence (and your family being charged), or you cop a plea deal.
    
    But it must be disconcerting to find that the latest set of notes discovered by the DOJ shows that it was Biden who brought up the Logan Act, and that Obama seems to have ordered the persecution.

So Palmerston North Council voted for a 1.9% rates increase instead of a 4.4%
“Councillors Lorna Johnson, Aleisha Rutherford, Zulfiqar Butt and Brent Barrett voted against the resolution, concerned the cuts in spending went too deep and people had not been properly consulted about where savings were made.”

These councillors all happen to have run on the Labour Party ticket.

  I don’t know where the cutbacks are being made to achieve these cuts in Palmy, but it’s a bit pointless if it means shuffling stuff around so the costs just pop up somewhere else.
  For example in Wellington it appears that sometime in the past money was saved by not maintaining the sewerage system and now it’s come back to bite them in the bum at great cost and disruption.

It seems that the plan many councils use is to suggest a much larger increase in taxes than actually desired so that when the level of tax increase is then reduced everyone will be happy. So many people are dumb. Those that are not will vote to get rid of the councillors as soon as possible

  Why will there need to be such cuts to spending if revenue will increase by 1.9 percent? Local Government finances are totally whacko. A reforming Government would just burn the whole system to the ground and start again.
  
  This is the thing about New Zealand – dozens, possibly hundreds of areas of public policy that need to be reformed and little apetite to do any of it. That is why I don’t get National. Why can’t they just pick the top 10 problems that make New Zealand poor and write them on an index card, and pledge to fix them? And print millions of them. I will give my 10 (and I don’t even cover education – that could be another 10).
  
  So National if you are reading this, I am happy to help for a very modest fee, before I give up and head back home.
  
  1. Repeal the Zero Carbon Act (Stupid and makes us poor)
  
  2. Repeal the Local Government Act (Destructive and dysfunctional)
  
  3. Repeal the RMA (start again)
  
  4. Five years lifetime limit on welfare for all people without a disability
  
  5. Require all Councils to release adequate land for urban housing (and sack them if they fail to do so).
  
  6. BUILD ROADS (Surely I don’t need to explain this)
  
  7. Audit all central Government expenditure and promise to reduce spending as a proportion of GDP by 5 percent over three years and 10 percent over 10 years.
  
  8. Stop bringing in low skill migrants.
  
  9. Abolish the Climate Commission.
  
  10. Resource the Productivity Commission properly and set a GDP per capita growth target to move New Zealand to the top half of the OECD wealth table over 20 years. The entire focus of the Government will be on GDP per capita growth.
  
  11. (Bonus) Remove all references to the Treaty Principles from all legislation.

    The Nats did attempt to fiddle with it in their last term of running the country.
    They ran into problems, however, because they didn’t have the numbers. That is to say they couldn’t convince a majority of MPs that whatever they wanted to do was an improvement on the status quo.
    Two things came out of that.
    That’s life with coalition government.
    Their former partners are nowhere to be seen in the current parliament.
    
    I’m picking NZF will be gone come 20-September. Their only hope is winning is Jones winning Northland & that would require cooperation from Labour.

  The writer even says the US president told people to drink bleach. A ridiculous distortion of what he said.
  
  Are African countries really doing better? Hard to tell with their chaotic health systems.
  
  If they are doing well then it is likely down to a natural factor (climate, disease profiles, whatever).
  
  It certainly is not down to good management.

Anyone else note the extraordinary disincentive to get tested for COVID? As it is, being in sniffle season, a runny nose now makes you a complete leper. Were you to test positive for the plague, what then? You get isolated, shoved into ICU, unable to see anyone, do anything, go anywhere? I’m not seeing the upside in this. My sniffle, for all I know, could be the mild COVID. But buggered if I have any interest in finding out more.
Meanwhile, I can’t even take my child to the dentist yet. Unbelievable.

    Thanks Batman, I’ll take the gong. But you miss the point, which is that there is an obvious disincentive, and a strong one at that, not to test.
    The ‘free’ dental care for kids is not seeing kids. Again we see why subsidised/’free’ healthcare is a bad idea (Thomas Sowell covers this in detail in one of his books, can’t quite recall which). Because they chuck in the towel real easy, where the commercial fellas are still at it.
    Why don’t I just go to a commercial fella, you ask? Well, I will. Just like I shelled out $5k when the state system couldn’t see my boy for a small growth on his scalp. I bypassed the services my taxes had paid for and went private, because some risks I am not prepared to take, particularly when it comes to my children.

      Well, I’ve just come back from my GP who had a covid testing letter on his table from the ministry of health. I asked him about it and he said its completely different to what the ministry are telling the media, and that his practise will be ignoring the letter and going on each patient. He went on to say the ministry are lying with what they are telling the press.

    The kids dentists are only seeing ’emergency cases’. I can and will take my kid to Lumino because he has ‘shark teeth’ and I want to be sure they are all gonna come out fine. Might also have my own broken tooth seen to.
    Like Batman, you’re misunderstanding the point I am making – the point is that there is a powerful disincentive to get tested. You don’t have to like the point, but I guarantee you, I am not the only one to run this scenario through my mind.

  My son & his wife are both recovering from colds. They had themselves tested a few days ago for Covid-19, not because there was more than a very small chance they had it, but because she is due to give birth.
  They obviously don’t want to front up to the hospital coughing & sneezing.
  Ever since it emerged some people left the lockdown early untested there’s been a degree of alarm. Not helped by Todd Muller ‘reckoning’ the bug is on the loose again.
  The people who should be tested are those with a logical reason.

    Winston has the wisdom to know that the current issues will only be solved with common sense, as Tim Shadbolt said – it’s a balance between austerity and economic activity – something Labour have never learned.
    Winston is currently positioning himself away from Labour, fishing is not all he was doing during the lockdown.
    
    The next government will be National, Act and NZF as none will dare to oppose each other beforehand — unless of course NZF or ACT are performing well below 5%.
    
    And National won’t want him outside the tent with the workload that they will have as the next government. ACT would be the same I’d presume.
    
    Winston probably can’t believe his luck — well he’s looking far from miserable! 😎

  I have totally gone off public transport. I visited Wellington last week and needed to visit a client. I caught the bus from Berhampore because parking is a hassle. It was dire. Crowded. Folk coughing. Some guy got on with a back pack and proceeded to rotate fitting people with the backpack like a battering ram. Christchurch is not perfect, but the houses are affordable and I can pretty much drive to wherever I need to go and park outside.

  This was politics at play. By supporting the Green amendment, the Bill reported back by the Committee of the Whole House was completely contradictory, and Andrew Little is now going to have to do more work to have it make sense before it can be enacted. Bear in mind that the House is sitting under urgency to try and pass a whole block of legislation, and is likely to sit at least until Friday night at this stage. National is going to make things as difficult as they can for the Government.

Showing how the duel track would have taken up th WHOLE road. But also showed cars driving down either side of the tracks.
Meaning
They would have to purchase, EVERY building on both sides of the current road to achieve this.
Is it 15Km to the airport?
say 10m per building, so 1500 buildings on each side, 3000 purchases for this to happen.
At an average ( in Auckland) of say $800000 per building.
So $2.4billion of compulsory purchase
Several years for construction (ie no airport access through this route)
Businesses and employees lost due to the closure of access to their site.
I still haven’t mentioned construction costs.
By the time all this has ended, our great great great grandchildren, still won’t have paid the bill.

  At present it’s a big gambling game for the money movers. Value has become irrelevant. The world is still largely in shock so it’s too early to feel the international outcomes for a while yet.
  
  Asset price will go crazy, businesses will fail, unemployment will escalate, currencies will be re-adjusted relatively, exports be very uncertain and our CPI begin to climb. With a “kindness” govt preferring wage rise to grumbles, a wage price spiral like Labour brought NZ in the 1970’s is very likely–its control, not so likely.
  This should all be buzzing by election day and into the new year and likely years to come.

  The fun actually began earlier than that. Trevor Mallard baited Nick Smith, requiring him to withdraw and apologise for an interjection against Winston Peters. Smith did that, and Mallard did the control freak thing, making Smith repeat the apology, because he had, in Mallard’s opinion, hadn’t done it properly. Smith must have muttered something as he sat down and Mallard wasted no time throwing him out, knowing that Smith had a question scheduled later in QT.
  
  IMHO Mallard set Smith up, and thus National was deprived of the opportunity to question Andrew Little over the mess he made of the prisoner voting bill. Brownlee was absolutely right later on to point out that Mallard had been less than even handed (or should I say even less even handed than usual!).

      Mallard has to be the worst speaker in living memory. Constantly protects Cindy, always takes a hard line with National and a soft line with all other parties and is thoroughly nasty to boot. What on earth does Jane Clifton see in him? It beggars belief. Someone that nasty is not only nasty at work, it’s a character trait.

I see the germ who committed the Young Labour Summer Camp Sexual Assualt is still appealing to get name suppression this even after having the charges downgraded so he escaped a conviction. This pisses me off because I have known other young people that have also faced the courts over the digressions they have committed that have not been given the same leniency but then again they weren’t Labour Party members .

  poor man, he has suffered and is suffering. I guess he should stop and think about what his victims went through and still are going through. The lawyers asks is there any public interest in the public knowing his name. Yes, because it will allow any other victims to come forward that he may of abused at other events. How bizarre. So if you come into the country and have Covid and are placed in isolation it is not where you are tested and isolated that case is listed in, but the area you reside in despite the fact you are not there. Is this a way to rig the system so that the isolation areas don’t show high infection numbers in the stats?

A South Canterbury woman has been confirmed as one of three new Covid-19 cases in New Zealand on Thursday.

The woman, in her 30s, however, is not in South Canterbury but in isolation in the Rotorua after testing positve on her return from Peru on June 20, the South Canterbury District Health Board’s chief executive, Nigel Trainor, confirmed to Stuff.

  Labour down 9% to 50%, National up 9% to 38%, Act 3%, Greens 6% and NZFirst 2%. Although many will disagree, moving on Bridges was a wise move. I know Todd Muller, he is a competent, articulate, smart guy. Keep your faith in him people, this is a decent start.
