    He’ll probably get transferred to Te Moenga, the sex offenders’ unit at Whanganui Prison where paedophiles, witness protection inmates and ex police are imprisoned. It is heavily secured, and designed for inmates who would not be safe in the general prison population. He definitely won’t enjoy the experience.

Biden and Buttigieg’s odds have both gone out, but not by much. They are followed by Sanders then Warren, whom I thought was a goner, but is back in close to the top three of Biden, Buttigieg and Sanders.

  No government or politician is perfect. John Key made mistakes. The conduct of the flag referendum. The pony tail thing. On the latter he was pilloried in left wing blogs and the media for months. It is the lack of symmetry that gets me.
  
  You may recall that Maurice Williamson was sacked because he made some inappropriate inquiries for a friend about a police investigation. I can’t recall all the details but IIRC it was at the minor end of offences. The left wing blogs screamed corruption and demanded blood. And now they are silent. Dead silent.

    And Nick Smith was pursued relentlessly over the letter he wrote to ACC on behalf of a friend, which he foolishly sent on his Minister of ACC letterhead. As noted above, he was chased through Wellington Airport by the media pack, when he was on his way to the Beehive to resign his portfolios.
    
    In contrast to that, the media have been very kind to Kris Faafoi, Shane Jones, Winston Peters and Jacinda Ardern.

The whole reason for this democracy lark is that we should all be equal before the law. Parliament is supposed to be the oversight that ensures this. Instead, it is just an alternative of the courts and courtiers of an absolute monarchy.

At least the kings and nobles had the self-constraint of nobles oblige. Clearly that has failed us.

The whole purpose of juries etc is that we should all be equal before the law and that the judiciary do not just become a club dishing out favours.

Clearly juries are not enough if they can, effectively, be overruled by the judiciary. Again, another failure.

  Well, that’s nonsense. If you make a jury’s verdict sacrosanct you remove the ability for a convicted person to appeal to higher courts – an essential remedy for the inevitable miscarriages of justice.
  An independent judiciary is a essential support for democracy, not a substitute for it.

Auckland bus drivers on strike, NZBus suspends services and also striking drivers.

NZBus was recently sold off to private equity buyers. Clearly the new owners are taking a stand. Not too surprising when driver union members voted to strike by not collecting fares until 24 December.

How will those drivers and their families like heading into Christmas with no pay apart from union handouts? I guess much the same as NZBus, that also gets pinged with AT penalties. But has deeper pockets.

Currently being deployed to avoid discussing the OPCW whistleblower scandal, which strongly suggests that the alleged Douma chemical weapons attack in Syria was a false flag set up by local insurgents to give the West cover to bomb Assad – and that many UN chemical weapons insprectors suspected this.

  I was watching footage of the 1949 Wyoming snow blizzard, caused by freak atmospheric clashes. For three days the state endured record deep snowfalls, but there was much kindness from farmers toward stranded motorists. Cattle died of course caught by the sudden freezing. I would imagine that freak Greta would have moaned and groaned about CO2 causing her car to be stuck.

Great live video, lots of material made available for the media.
But the coverage…. crickets

I thought ah ha.. the Herald were onto it today, a full half page with photos of a rocket launch, alas is was SpaceX.
Screeds of inane horseshit fill the NZ MSM sites/ pages/ screens but no mention of the collosal achievements of the NZ based space launch program.
I guess they shun science and engineering but instead want nothing but political scientists, basket weavers, beneficiaries and professional protestors.

    Holidayed in Tonga a few years ago and a few lassies from Auckland arrived for a girls week. Topless was just the start. The track to the village went down the centre of the island but from that day all the blokes from the village wandered along the beach.
    
    The local ladies, not svelte by any means, turned extremely nasty and abusive to the young women and fisticuffs were just moments away at times but the managers sorted it out so it may not involve a scarf.

Thunberg, the Swedish climate activist has been in Spain for a rally. The organisers claimed half a million turned out for the protest,but authorities put the number at 15,000.

Thunberg told the rally that “change is not going to come from the people in power, it’s going to come from the masses.”

Meanwhile, the Sydney Morning Herald reports:

Johan Rockstrom, director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, said social scientists believed that when roughly 3.5 per cent of a nation’s population joins “civil and non-violent uprisings” it can be enough to force change, even in a dictatorship.

In Germany, numbers at the climate demonstrations on September 20 were estimated at nearly 2 per cent of the population, and in New Zealand at 3.5 per cent, he said.

What a misleading, ingenuous and maybe even cynical statement.
Everyone in the world knows that if someone is injured or killed by a train at a level crossing it is ALWAYS the fault of the motor-vehicle driver or the pedestrian.
Trains can’t just stop or slow down.
Every level crossing has SOME sort of warning sign / barrier / bells / lights / whatever.
It is ENTIRELY up to the pedestrian or motor-vehicle driver to take care.
The poor train drivers must have bloody nightmares for years after events like this.
But Stuff milks it for all it is worth: how despicable.

    Was driving in town the other day – coming up to a pedestrian crossing.
    Saw woman walking briskly along wearing earphones and looking down at some paper.
    Just had the feeling she was going to dive out onto the crossing without looking so slowed down.
    That is exactly what she did.
    Didn’t look, couldn’t hear.
    I was able to stop in time but she had no idea I was there. Shook her fist at me – because, of course, all my fault that she didn’t see me.

  Several flags were associated with the Confederacy, and one of those used by Texas seems the same as the present ??????Texas flag. Are the Woke going to go after it?
  
  The line between North and South in the Civil War is fuzzier than many of us, as foreigners, think. Two of Abraham Lincoln’s brothers-in-law were officers in the Confederate Army. Grant, the Union commander, was the son-in-law of a substantial owner of slaves.
  
  Slave owner George Washington and others of the Founding Fathers of the United States are tainted in the eyes of the Woke, and no doubt will be future targets. Will they want the name of America’s capital renamed?
  
  The Woke have a vast range of historic figures they can rant about. At least they won’t change perceptions of Genghis Khan. Mongolians don’t give a desert rat’s arse for the views of the Woke.
  
  In NZ, historic white figures like Grey will be targeted as colonialists, as James Cook has. Meanwhile, in the distorted vision of the Woke, historic Maori chiefs will escape judgement for owning slaves, and, in some cases, eating them.

      It’s interesting that the “stars and bars” emblem of the Confederates seems to be the main logo of the Rebels motor-cycle gang, which has Maori members. These include one of the leaders, Aaron Graham, who was deported from Australia to New Zealand.

drunk seniors take a work vehicle laden with gear for a drunk drive at an outdoor function. Drunk seniors are caught by workmate + Venue worker in another vehicle who raced after them. One perp still in the vehicle and and later photographed returning to the scene with co offender.

6 Keystone cops turn up and after 45 mins pre charge warnings are supposedly given despite zero arrests made. There were 3 eye witnesses who provided statements including wife of perp.

Cops arrogant on arrival and as I suspect ‘locals’ from the rural area.

“courts are full up with this type of offending and look at their age they would probably get diversion” – verbatim main cop.
Was he assuming their history?
