  I was struck by an article in powerline blog about Joe Biden and Hunter Biden. It seems clear from emails that Burisma the Ukrainian energy company had Hunter Biden on its board for the sole purpose of buying influence with Joe Biden who was the point man for United States relations with Ukraine. He was the one determining how much aid would go to Ukraine.
  
  It amazes me that aggressive reporters will not investigate this? Did Hunter Biden attend any board meetings for example? What language are the minutes in, Ukrainian?
  
  As the article points out corruption is not usually done by direct payments to the principal – Joe Biden. Instead they are funnelled through the family, Hunter Biden in this case, so that the family can become rich. This is the definition of corruption and swamp like behaviour.
  
  And this is what Donald Trump was seeking to have investigated when he made his phone call to the Ukrainian Pres. Just because Joe Biden was a political rival does not mean that the President of the United States cannot raise legitimate concerns, particularly given Joe Biden’s own testimony about having the Ukrainian prosecutor fired.
  
  Joe Biden, Obama, the Clintons – they are all swamp creatures. Joe Biden after 40 years in public office cannot drain the swamp. He is the epitome of the swamp creature who has spent decades creating the swamp.

  Not a “hot mic” situation, that implies an inadvertent statement, Robach was making a forceful statement to an audience of some sort and clearly meant what she was saying.
  
  Funny how the standards vary by political affiliation – ABC were perfectly OK with airing (and indeed making it top billing) a series of ludicrous and untrue allegations about Brett Kavanagh, and to run the Covington kids edited video, yet wouldn’t go with a well sourced and apparently well researched item on Epstein because it implicated the Clintons.
  
  Regardless about what else you think of Trump, his accusations regarding “Fake News” are spot on.
  
  As David Burge (Iowahawk) has it: “Journalism is about covering important stories. With a pillow, until they stop moving”.
  
  Or Jim Treacher: “Modern journalism is all about deciding which facts the public shouldn’t know because they might reflect badly on Democrats.”

    Mikey – Project Veritas is awesome. The trouble is we get the people’s own words on tape and on video. The planned parenthood person talking about trading body parts of babies.
    The ABC person talking about her bosses killing the Jeffrey Epstein story.
    And the chap from CNN talking about the 9 AM phone call from Jeff Zucker – just focus on impeachment, we are all about impeachment! In other words ignore every other story. Ignore the booming economy. We are just going to push impeachment every day.
    
    So project Veritas did a great service. CNN is not about what the journalists and the news anchors think is newsworthy. It is all about what Jeff Zucker thinks and he hates Donald Trump and that’s what CNN is all about.     Your “enough said” doesn’t follow. So he’s self described as “guerilla journalist” and is controversial. But “controversial” is often an adjective used to describe people who expose things that others would rather were NOT exposed.
    
    Despite numerous claims that PV has faked evidence or edited videos, those are fake news, and PV’s output has been unequivocally been shown to be accurate. Although snippets have been shown (which is editing), the whole uncut video is available to check context and accuracy.

Wonder why some of the RWC bronze winners the All Blacks trained by Hansen and Foster and half their team were trained before that by Robertson from Crusaders are calling for either mentioned men to be the new All Black coach.
After all some of the also ran Bronze Medal winners and losers to England are long past their use by date.
New All Black coach or coaches have a longer tenure than the aging All Blacks who are pleading for Foster or Robertson. The bulk of the All Black players who were embarrassed by England are calling for Foster or Robertson perhaps to save their careers to be the new All Black Coach. Maybe they are afraid of being told don’t come Monday you choked against the English.
Even Blind Freddie can see that a Jamie Joseph or Dave Rennie will be the salvation for the All Blacks and make them great again.

      Rubbish, economic prosperity is now far higher, not just in NZ but even more so world wide than when most boomers (like me) were born.
      
      If the pensions are “gold plated” you must be talking about civil servants, private sector (except at the highest levels) very rarely have much beyond their own savings (partially destroyed by low interest rates) and a minimal superannuation payment.
      
      Never go to war, well, maybe the boomers helped by not actually going to war. Though some a touch older than me may have been subject to the draft, NZ only sent volunteers overseas to war zones.
      
      Finally, the environment – generally speaking in NZ conditions are not worse, but the focus has changed. Back then a lot of unconstrained dumping of anything including toxic refuse, but in general less intensive farming did leave rivers etc somewhat cleaner though not clean as such. Worldwide pollution has been almost entirely driven by the enormous rise in economic activity in what was the third world. For example, as you should know, over 90% of the plastic pollution in the oceans is from just 10 rivers that are exclusively in Asia and Africa, and is essentially domestic pollution.
      
      So as much as you may wish to create a scapegoat in the “boomer” class, your assertions are rubbish.

        It is arguable that most of our so-called ‘economic prosperity’ in 2019 is mostly illusory, and is the result of horrendous increases in private and public debt (to pay for the ever expanding welfare state, including your pensions which are currently being paid out of the potential earnings of the as yet unborn generations). On average, every human on this planet is currently sustained by about USD30,000. This is not sustainable.
        
        The money will run out eventually, so yes compared to what near-future generations will receive (possibly nothing) your non-means-tested benefit is gold-plated in comparison.
        
        You didn’t have to go to war. Undisputable fact.
        
        Re: the environment. See above: debt driven, unfunded liabilities, bringing forward future consumption to the present (worsening the environment in the process), that future generations will be on the hook for. Remember that the next time you are playing with your grand/great grand children. You’ve fucked their futures.
        
        The facts are, much of current policy is designed to keep the boomers happily voting for more of the same. Sorry to burst your bubble.

        Furthermore, it is Baby Boomers themselves (i.e. the ‘free love’, nihilistic Marxists of the 60s generation) – having squandered what your parents passed on to you – who have sown the seeds of the cultural Marxism that has largely brought about the falling Western world. Not all of you of course, but members of your generation certainly.

        WW2 crippled economies and before that was the depression.
        Boomers BUILT the current economy
        built resilience into it
        from about 1985 on, we have made the mistake of NOT forcing the generations since, to actually work for what they want and built a sense of entitlement into them.
        We are to blame for that.
        Task for you
        list all the achievements since 1985, that were not predicated by or just outright devised/ invented by the mid to late boomers and before.

        The facts tell a different story. Your parents both won a war, and then came home to create a very prosperous, comfortable, and safe society in the post war years. Only when the boomers came of age (let us say from the 60s) when all the hard work had been done and the groundwork laid, did the seeds of our current millieu get sown.
        
        Living a life of unprecedented ease, complacency set in and the good times were enjoyed. However, the Boomers are possibly the first recent generation to have a life better than those who followed them.
        
        Don’t get me wrong, it is not all Boomers who are to blame, but those who are to blame came from your ranks, and it was your ranks who, by a majority, kept voting for the same policies.

It’s interesting that in the Newsroom article it says, “when he ticked boxes in the form that he was separated and living apart, and not divorced, and that he would fill in the form the same way today.” I went online to see how obvious the question is. The form doesn’t say are you seperated. It says do you have a partner – and it defines that as someone you are in a relationship with. And if you answer yes there are a whole series of questions you need to answer. The form may have been different a few years back. But now there are two whole sections a Tell us about your living situation? section – “Are you living alone?” “Please provide details of anyone you live with?” etc. And then another section “Tell us if you have a partner.” – and about 9 questions related to partner. It’s a really comprehensive form and quite clear.

        The way the Kyoto accord works is that the existing condition of vegetation in 2008 is taken as the baseline from which all emission changes are calculated… so our existing forests, pastoral grasslands, scrublands, etc — which account for 27 million ha of C-sequestering plant life don’t figure in NZ’s balance sheet.

  Until the 2004 Indonesian Tsunami, few NZers were aware of the impact tsunami could have on some of our coastal settlements.
  
  When I was growing up, we called them tidal waves… and the only one I ever heard about was from the 1960 Chile earthquake that sent a few waves through to our coasts.
  
  But we have a well-documented history of Tsunami, it’s just that most of us don’t know much about it.

    I’m with Maggie here, a very worthwhile piece of planning to see what impacts might occur. Biggest risk is the scenario used, a major (8.9+) quake in the Hikurangi subduction zone as we would have very little warning time. Many evacuation routes could be come very crowded.
    
    I don’t think we have an evacuation/tsunami warning system anywhere near as comprehensive as Japan, and yet they suffered, what, over 30K deaths in their recent event. People who did not hear or know about the risk – especially in cars as in videos you can see people driving along as the huge waves reach the shore and some getting caught up. I think we’re far more aware since the Boxing day and Japanese events of the potential dangers, but the actual warning systems are not yet really up to scratch.
    
    Thankfully I live and work in an area just to far from shore to be threatened in anything but a catastrophic event like an asteroid impact.

  It is fearmongering and a bad report. There is only a small area on the Hikurangi fault line south east of Cook Strait where if a tsunami was triggered, that any tidal wave would reach Wellington and the foreshore facing Cook Strait. For Wellington to be destroyed by a Tsunami, the earthquake would need to be in Cook Strait and south of the entrance to Wellington Harbour. Similarly, thanks to geography and the laws of physics it is almost impossible for Auckland to suffer the impact of an tsunami caused by an earthquake – the Coromandel Peninsula is largely in the way….

  LOL, Shane Jones on National Radio this morning kept showing this up beautifully: through identity politics and intersectionality, NZ is now full of divisiveness with people competing for the top tier on the victim pyramid. Shane was very angry at the Indian community people who want to bring in arranged marriage spouses without the 2 years living together rule.
  
  Where is his respect for other cultures? Where is his concern for the poor Indian victims of our cruel, colonialist laws?
  
  Intersectionality is nothing but a competition for victim rights and *money* for politicians and state-funded jobs.
  
  Jones could have made a bit of sense about not wanting to overpopulate NZ, but he was going about it by trotting out identity politics reasons that *he*, because of his ‘whakapapa’ was not racist for telling the Indian ‘extremists’ to leave NZ if they didn’t like our policy. The implication clearly being that anyone without his ‘whakapapa’ would be racist for saying the same things.
  
  Identity politics and intersectionality crash into each other with overlapping demands, each wanting special rights and/or money for being a victim in some way.
  
  Here’s a hint for Simon Bridges: Shane Jones immediately shut up the interviewer interrupting him by saying ‘let me finish my KORERO!!!’.
  
  Hahaha, National Radio have biased themselves so far into the intersectionality mindset that you can shut them up immediately by hinting that they might be racist, classist, sexist, homophobic etc by not letting you finish your KORERO.

The important idea is the proposal for a New Zealand population policy. Strangly we don’t have one.
My view is we target a maximum population number. It’s madness to let it just grow without working out if it’s doing us any good at all.
Suggest an absolute max of 5 million, and a gradual reduction would be even better.

    I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again: mass immigration artificially a) keeps the house prices up, and b) distorts GDP figures (per capita GDP is what matters). If they turn the tap off, the dominoes will fall, which is why nobody wants to do it.
    
    Someone needs to man the fuck up and say that (dear I use this phrase!) “enough is enough.” The electorate needs to be told the truth for once. While this approach is unfashionable these days, reason and evidence (as provided by Europe’s experience) needs to be deployed to demonstrate what the future will look like with unchecked immigration.
    
    What is the goal? How many is enough? These sorts of issues need to be spelled out. For instance, Bridges needs to ask Ardern these questions directly in televised debates, and let her provide a non-answer. Let her show the country that there is no logic and only feels behind bringing in so-called refugees.
    
    It is inevitable that he MSM and the Twitterazis will go mental. So what. Peter’s is all talk. He will never do anything to address any issues. He needs to be gone.

Despite being the first state in the world to legalise abortion, they have banned abortion after 12 weeks. They are trying to jump start the demographic with a baby-boom. Education has largely been transferred to the Church, away from the state! Lefties will be apoplectic. Morality is back in the curriculum. Secular education has become an exception. As a bonus, Soros and his globalist minions have been banned from Hungary. Got to be worth a visit and a follow.

The 2020 election is going to be about

1) Euthanasia
2) Immigration
3) Cost of living/housing
4) Climate Change

National is very hostile towards Euthanasia with polls running at 70% for, they are well and truly be on the wrong side on this one,
The fact that national seems to be taken over by Christians will start to get some serious air time around the election, this will be very outputting for the non-religious.

Immigration, Bridges signalling after his trips to China and India that they’ll keeping flooding the country with people, dairy and business seems to be all National is interested in, no fucks given for existing born and bred Kiwis.

Young people struggling like fuck to afford to live, this is a huge issue, even though Labour has been arse, they’re still considered a better option than National for who they blame for causing the housing mess.

Climate Change is big with people under 30, personally I’m a bit meh about it but I haven’t been endlessly brain washed through my formative years so not such of an issue.
National is considered very Trumpish around the issue of climate change, Labour talking but not following through, Greens will be the winners.

My prediction for 2020

Labour 37%
NZ First 10%
Greens 8%

National 41%
Act 2%
Other parties 2%

Voter turn out will be low

With the influence that we seen in this rabble of a Government that Peters has – they could have easily imposed what they promised in 2017, but no those promises to cut immigration to 10K have not even been advocated by NZF in Government.   The previous National government proposed increasing the minimum residency requirement to 20 years before it was voted out of power, that would do something to help. NZF and Labour promised to do something to lower the numbers getting in but haven’t done a thing except increase the waiting times for visa applications.

      I would like to see a cost benefit analysis on that. A couple of observations:
      
      1. We have lots of Indians here already. Employers need to jump through few hoops if they want another one.
      
      2. Doesn’t Fonterra sell all the milk powder it can produce at the world price? Or is it going to increase volume to meet new Indian demand after such a trade deal? How does that run up against the environmental pressures that will inevitably limit dairy expansion in New Zealand?
      
      There have been a few of these knee jerk announcements from National of late. Don’t they employ staff that can do 5 minutes of analysis before Simon opens his mouth? Increasingly David Seymour is the only MP that (most of the time) seems sensible.

Got into a philosophical discussion with a mate recently who has become a vegetarian to save the planet for his grandchildren.

After being accused about being a Climate Change denier after insisting that not all global warming is man-made, I actually had an epiphany.

I’m not a denier….I just don’t care.

If the world keeps getting warmer through my lifetime, it wouldn’t necessarily bother me. And as for my descendants I’m sure they’ll work it out.

There is no climate emergency. A group of 500 prominent scientists and professionals, led by the CLINTEL co-founder Guus Berkhout, has sent a registered letter to the Secretary-General of the UN, António Guterres. They warn the Secretary-General that “[c]urrent climate policies pointlessly and grievously undermine the economic system, putting lives at risk in countries denied access to affordable, reliable electrical energy.”
They add: “We urge you to follow a climate policy based on sound science, realistic economics and genuine concern for those harmed by costly but unnecessary attempts at mitigation.”

Here is their letter with the list of 500 signatories.

I see that unemployment has come off its low of 3.9% (generated by the effects of National’s policies and helped by the CoL shifting some of the unemployed onto other benefits) and is now at 4.2% and rising.
Robbo will have an interesting way in QT of explaining why this is a good thing.

Labour list MP Priyanca Radhakrishnan in Stuff:
“We should also think about why we continue to celebrate Guy Fawkes in New Zealand when it has nothing to do with us. As a country we could focus on celebrating Matariki with public fireworks displays instead.
“Wellington City Council has recently made this change and now mark Matariki with their annual fireworks display instead of Guy Fawkes. I know many Kiwi Indians use their fireworks to celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights.”

What an idiot. Guy Fawkes is an important figure in English parliamentary history, which is absolutely linked with NZ’s history. Diwali and matariki have less, with perhaps 18 percent having an ancestoral relationship with such events.

The way the opinion piece is written seems to me to indicate she agrees with Diwali and matariki being celebrated with fireworks, but not Guy Fawkes. Diwali, has neither first migrant status, or historic link with our governing institutions. It is a nice festival.

Ignoring fires and animal reasons etc, on what cultural grounds should fireworks be used / banned?

  The actual use of gunpowder (ie fireworks) in the celebration goes back over 400 years.

    I don’t really think it ever was a celebration of ‘parliamentary processes’. The populace in seventeenth century England was happy to have an occasion to celebrate the deliverance of the royal family and demonstrate against the catholics.
    Celebrations of the event also overlook evidence that the whole ‘Gunpowder Plot’ was cooked up by the English government.

  Occasionally I have been looking after my daughter’s dog when fireworks have gone off and the poor bitch, who under normal circumstances will rip your gizzard out at the smallest nod from her owner, is reduced to a quivering, peeing, cowering, slobbering wretch.

    Yesterday I was at the Robert Harris cafe St Lukes Megacentre , Mt Albert enjoying a cappuccino. I noticed next door three Muslim women enjoying their lattes with their children . Two of these honeypots .were wearing their Nijabs with stylish jeans and blouses . The other in more typical kiwi informal attire?

    recently i was at St Luke’s shopping mall and I saw a Muslim lady dressed in traditional apparel accompanied by her two beautiful young daughters dressed in modern western tight jeans and blouses , revealing lovely supple body proportions , including small but ample breasts .

The weather has been sooo beautiful and warm over the last few days, we’ve spent a fair bit of time in the pool. One thing i did notice, was that my partner is not nearly as cut as he was last summer.

  What a load of crap and a waste of taxpayer’s money!
  
  Why not use that money instead for something like satellite tracking of illegal fishing boats plundering our EEZ (and our Pacific neighbours)?
  
  Or on something else that’s practical like say, poverty reduction, or mental health or Pharmac?
  
  These COL muppets are raiding the taxpayer to pay for a make-believe problem looking for a solution!
