  Correct. If you want to change the government, the best way to achieve that is to give your party vote to National, even if that requires a clothespeg over the nose. Anything less runs the risk of another government like the current one.

        With the wasted vote likely to be 3 or 4% with the likes of Vernon Tava and the New cons and other rats and mice and NZF likely to go sub 5% (say 4%) so total 8% wasted , Greens will get 5%+. So both Red and Blue teams end up mid 40’s.
        I think the wild card will be the Maori Party.
        The difference between them picking up one seat or not might change the whole election.

        Colville. No way will the Greens get to 5% and Labour will be mid 30s at best.
        Total wasted vote could be as high as 12% (Green + NZF + New Cons + Tava + Maori + others) so if the Nats get 45% that will be 51% of the remaining 88%.

    The same people who make the ‘warming’ claims also site the thermometers, take the readings and then ‘massage’ the data.
    Used to be where temps were taken on airfields in standard boxes at the same height above grass.
    Now you can find these temps were taken around buildings and above tarsealed surfaces.

      The only rationale for adjusting data should be for Urban Heat Island effect.
      
      Those adjustments should be more against modern temperatures, not historical ones.
      
      But the opposite seems to have occurred since the late 90’s

    Now that’s how we expect the climate liars to react ! Never, never, engage with facts, just traduce the person. It just what they do.
    
    There are legitimate reasons to adjust old records or at least to recalculate the results; a change to the times in the day when measurements are taken for example can make a difference, as can changes in location. But if the reasons are all legitimate, why aren’t those adjustments part of the public record ? If they are legitimate and can be defended, surely it would be in everyone’s interests that the adjustments and the methodology be available to critique ? That is how science works, or is supposed to.

      In the 50s and 60s record temperatures were always quoted as taken in the shade.It was only with the advent of TV that recording stations were placed to enable the weather reports to show the hottest possible recordings for competing communities.

  normalisation
  correction
  fitting
  re-modelling
  sanititising
  
  I once tried to get raw data from NIWA and they said that they only provided corrected data. Once they had corrected the data they destroyed the raw data to “save disk space”.

    I once had a reviewer query our analyses in a scientific manuscript, so we simply shipped him/her the raw data. Solved the problem entirely.
    
    I tell my students that they should be well-prepared to provide raw, original data if their methodology or integrity are ever queried. At a minimum, saves us from accidentally drawing erroneous conclusions, occasionally makes cheeky reviewers apologize and admit we were right. That’s how peer review is supposed to work.

      What if your data analysis methods were broken? How do you rebuild the data if you don’t keep the raw data?

  The Foundation claimed that the loans had been repaid. If that is indeed correct then they would legitimately be loans (except the “free” interest etc would be a donation).
  
  One wonders though whether they are being economical with the truth. Were ALL the loans repaid?

  Foundation: Here are 4 loans: $100k, $300k, $5 and $2.
  NZF: Ok, I’ll give you $7 back.
  Foundation: NZF has repaid loans.

  To be pedantic, it is not a list of the least corrupt, but a list of perceptions – ie. how the people “feel”.
  
  In smaller countries we tend to see our politicians and bureaucrats in the street a bit more. It is harder for us to believe our politicians are corrupt than when they are faceless talking heads thousands of miles away that none of us meet.

He also said he considers Vindman to be unreliable and told lawmakers that he questions his judgment.

We are seeing the NZ Labour party use similar tactics here channeling taxpayer funds via dozens of working groups to launder taxpayer money to their mates, with some given back to fund future campaigns. If Heritage New Zealand now change the status of the land, can Fletchers sue the Government?
Even if the land’s heritage status was increased, the status of the special housing area would remain intact, meaning the land could still be used to build papakāinga housing – homes designed by Māori for Māori. [1]

But isn’t the papakāinga, village, outside the boundaries of the disputed land, SHA62 “Wallace Block” [2]

“Whatever recommendation is finally made by Heritage New Zealand will then go to Auckland Council for it to consider whether to change the land’s current status,” Mr Robertson told RNZ [1]

But a change in land status in no justification for Auckland Council to buy it on behalf of protestors or protectors – rather they need to inform Fletchers, the current owners, and as it is reversing the land status under which Fletchers purchased the land (does it not) raise what Fltecher’s legal recourse may be? It will have been sold land it now can not build on (if the change is made), and also surely the value of the land, with changed purpose, has also changed.

Excellent news for landlords, they will be queuing up to buy new rentals to meet a shortage and increasing homelessness.

Until they twig that there are additional rules for them that don’t apply to other businesses, and not trivial rules either.

  Every tenancy that I provide in the future, will now be 12 month fixed term. In the 21 day period approaching the end of the fixed term, were either party can terminate the fixed ter tenancy, another fixed term tenancy will be offered. There will be no opportunity for the fixed term tenancy to roll over to become a periodic tenancy.
  
  I have never increased rents twice in a year and, I no longer have to give 90 days notice to vacate or 60 days to advise of a rent increase.
  
  Changing tenants is a pain in the proverbial, not as big as changing houses though.
  
  As for giving a tenant a paintbrush, forget it. The result will be as good as when they tell you that they are an ‘enthusiastic gardener’ without telling you their model is to ‘just let it grow baby!’

    Paulus Gnome, Mr Faafoi’s recent announcements, if enacted, put the kibosh on your fixed term plan. Completely. Tenant will hold all the cards under most circs, including assigning a FTT where consent may not be unreasonably withheld (whatever that may mean).
    
    The Tenancy Tribunal will get very very busy, so better to give 90 day termination notices to even slightly risky tenants. While we still can.

      There are several reasons households can’t rent privately and it is well within the government’s power to fix for some households, maybe many. They would prefer to hold the ideological line than actually solve part of the problem and save the taxpayer money.
      
      COST. The average Accommodation Supplement subsidy is $100pw, the average social housing income related rent subsidy is $300 pw. The average motel is, well a lot more than either, probably over $1000 pw. So the cost difficulty can be overcome by paying $300 pw for private sector accommodation, direct to the landlord. Balance paid by benefit deduction if relevant. Success! Big taxpayer dollars saved and those in motels don’t need to keep moving.
      
      RISKY TENANTS. The government is now pouring tens of millions into Sustained Tenancies, designed to keep tenants from being kicked out for rent or damage issues. Looks like mainly paying a lot of social workers, maybe some rent arrears, not sure. If the fund can provide guarantees to landlords for rent and fixing damage, risky tenants might have a better chance of a private rental. Cost less than months in motels. Still be some tenants no landlord will take on of course.
      
      SUPPLY. A lot in government hands. The COL could change it in a heartbeat. Certainly cheaper than building more and more social housing – capital cost and rent subsidies. Easy, just focus on the problems, not the ideology.

  Because if he gives a straight ‘no’ now he plays into Winston’s hands because Winston can organise his strategy around that and concentrate on pulling in centre left votes ie the left side of National’s possible votes.
  He is better off to be non committal for now and announce any decision closer to the election next year. Winston then has to organise his strategy around this and in particular he would have to spread his campaigning resources wider and aim to try and pick off a wider range of potential National voters.
  Same with policy. Simon is not going to put all his policy on the table now as this gives valuable campaigning clues to other parties. Far better to announce policy closer to the election and in a way that catches other parties flat footed.

    Peters will never rule himself out. The Greens are mugs to rules to rule themselves out of working with the Nats, although it would come as a surprise if they did.
    In the past National formed an unlikely alliance with the Maori Party because for both of them it was the path the power.
    Both major parties have worked with NZF before despite his reputation.
    Winston has been able to negotiate cabinet positions including top positions for himself by keeping everyone guessing.
    Labour knows the Greens are in their hip pocket so they give them a few crumbs outs cabinet.
    Sure as night follows day if the Nats can’t get rid of NZF at the next election Simon will negotiate with them to save his political career.

Noticed the fledgling Wellington City Councillor named Jill Day whose track record in the the previous Wellington City Councils was rated as the lowest of all classed as a 4 out of 10. Yet some people said that was too high,as she was known to also sneakily play the race card. Some gave her rating as a 2 only because they never saw a 1.
Her reward i kid you not . A position Jill Day appointed as “Chairwoman of the Strategy and Policy Committee”. Her Salary $120,000 up from circa $86000. To reiterate her previous track was she could not run a bath. Go figure that one.
A clone of the previous also ran clown Justin Lester whose legacy is a $40,000 technicoloured pedestrian crossing in Cuba Mall. Being his running mate at the time of the wasteful spend of Ratepayers hard earned money that must make her just as culpable. Lets hope we dont have Lester now that he got a DCM, advising his ex-running mate Jill Day on how to win friends and influence people on wasting Ratepayers Money. Not!

Are NZF MP’s claiming that they have no knowledge of the Trust receiving donations?

Somebody somewhere does. Who are the Settlors and who are the Beneficiaries? Surely it is not being run solely as a fee generating resource by its creators. It’s income, unless a registered charity, will be taxable under the usual trust rules. Does it escape tax by, itself, making payments to another hidden charity which makes individual disbursements? Is it disbursing beneficiaries income taxable in their hands?

I expect all the convoluted arrangements are lawful. They seem also to be a deliberate attempt to create a private moneybox that could hide donors substantial payments contrary to the tenor of transparency in electoral funding.

I don’t know if anyone has the power to unravel this ugly composite particularly in the face of the demented one’s histronics and anger.
Winston must be seen to be transparent, without that his integrity is at stake.
We must be able to prove that MP’s have not given improper favours. Defending a right to hide financial matters, other than purely domestic ones, in the public political arena itself raises question of integrity.

Winston’s lot have used the Winebox as an example of best practice.

One question that remains is whether Auckland Council has the financial capacity to even service the loan and whether another option is for the Crown to cover the whole cost. [1]

Also it is understood the Fletchers purchase cleared an appropriate examination by Heritage New Zealand.
If Heritage New Zealand were so wrong in that decision, as to now be considering top status for the land, should they, with Ardern as Minister, explain such an utterly vast mistake?
And also explain where it leaves either the Wallace sale or Fletcher purchase of such reclassified land?

    Samoa is a sovereign State. It makes it’s own decisions about health programs and risks. It also has a widely flung group of nationals including in the USA and Australia. There is free movement between Samoa and American Samoa. It’s obligation is to protect it’s own health and borders.
    
    We should not let the pandemic of 1918 colour our relations. because of Samoa’s residual grief. NZ was not responsible for returning war veterans world wide. The epidemic devastated where it will. It hit many places severely. Small Island nations were probably less exposed to protective prior infections which might have helped immunity. No one was safe.     Parents in New Zealand have almost no excuse not to vaccinate their offspring. If some did not, and took measles to Samoa, responsibility lies with those parents, not the government.
    
    There are a few reasons not to vaccinate in specific circumstances, age being the main one.
    
    Herd immunity deals with that. We lost that, sounds like Samoa does not have it. That is partly government responsibility, only partly.

Judge Tony Couch sent him to jail for multiple breaches.

A man who had sex with a dolphin and wrote a book about it was treated unfairly by The Edge radio station, the Broadcasting Standards Authority (BSA) says.

According to the BSA decision handed down this month, Florida man Malcolm Brenner should have been given the chance to comment on air during an interview on MediaWorks’ owned Dom, Meg and Randell show about his relationship with Dolly the dolphin in 1971.

However, the show broadcast only a small segment of the interview on April 3 where host Megan Annear called Brenner “sick” and stormed out of the interview. *

Just got back from the New Conservatives meeting at the CT club, Tauranga. An enthusiastic meeting with about 120 people there.
The two leaders were there and a few local supports in nice lt Blue T shirts.
Both leaders spoke for about 20 minutes with no notes and much audience participation.

They discussed about 27 polices.
I liked
No race based laws.
Prisoners do nto get out (ever) until they have learned a trade and done one year of outside work.
Free Speech
No LGBT ideology
Welfare a hand up not a hand out. (no long term beneficiaries)
No ETS
Pull out of the Paris Accord
All Referendum will be biding
No rushed legislation like firearms, proper consultancy time.

More meetings at Bethlehem, Katikati and Papamoa

  That was the greatest TV show…ever! And that opening sequence with the theme music pretty much summed up the show in a nutshell.
  Gerry Anderson’s finest work. One reviewer said that getting to work with live actors after so many years of the puppet shows (Thunderbirds, etc), Gerry Anderson had to go and get people who acted like marionettes.
