  You are being a little optimistic after their display in 2017 of just over 13, 700 vote I think. I am not a fan of David Seymour but I believe they should have to show a vast improvement of the equivalent of 2 or 3 seats in lead up polls by March 2020 and if not Paul Goldsmith should be who National support in that electorate.

    You may be correct. However there are some disaffected National supporters and David’s profile has never been higher. If ACT fails to get at least 3 MPs in 2020 it says a lot. I’ve never been more pessimistic about New Zealand’s future. And I don’t think a National Government would make the changes required. Slowing the decline is not enough.

      A National Government would love to make the changes required but knows it would be electoral suicide in the face of so many voters wanting free stuff.

        Spot on Krazy, and it can be summarised over the Charter School matter; it was only ever a ACT policy to form government – it was never about the kids – as Key ‘trialed 6 schools’ for something like 6yrs, hardly promoted them, and after losing the election National only whimpered about the effects on the ‘current students’ and not on the effects of future students through the loss of charter schools. And now look at the mess – fucken ‘hubs’ – more like local Labour/Green/union/wimmin offices!
        
        National will do the same over Roger’s decades old policy of ‘school vouchers’ – or whatever name it is currently promoted under; do a deal to form government, then rule to appease people in the hope of winning the next election.

I have an old YouTube channel the pre-dates Googles ownership of the platform. Gave up on it years ago because of the bogus copywrite claims against my videos, a subject worth exploring sometime.

Anyway yesterday I received his missive

I don’t give a shit about the video or the old YouTube channel but seriously the offending video was an extract from Gunter Grass’s “Die Blechtrommel” for which he received a Nobel prize in literature

So clicked the appeal link to point this out to YouTube only to presented with a one line textbox about 40 characters long to make my case. It accepeted maybe 200 characters – clearly they have no real interest in reviewing this – they are the arbiters of what is acceptable public discourse and what is “hate speech” and have no understanding of great literature. Shakespeare is done for“Merchant of Venice” anti semitic. “Orthello” traditionally played by an actor in Blackface

Appears Minister Faafoi will be announcing new tenancy rules today. According to Stuff this morning bad behaviour or late rent …. may be reasons to terminate a tenancy?

No. Landlord will have to apply to the Tenancy Tribunal for an order that may or may not be granted. What level of proof will be required? What say the tenant disputes the reasons? And if it is granted, what timing? Who knows?

Maybe the Minister will tell us what the TT is required to do if the tests are met (one test is 3 complaints in 90 days, not a high bar).

We will have to wait and see when the announcement is made. Unless the new rules are in force immediately I predict there will be a lot of 90 day notices issued right away.

  Be interesting to pay the bucks and know wether it gave access for full lunch or she had the right to walk if the blow torch was applied.

I know objectivity is sparse on KB when it comes to Trump. But we are getting a picture of how something did or didn’t happen.
Some of Trumps people are going to prison. Others such as Giuliani and Sondland might soon get the chop – Giuliani of the 2 of them is under investigation having playing a third leg part in foreign policy.
Why are these people surrounding Trump being investigated or going to prison has become a legitimate question. Some enlarged to bursting co-incidence? Why would aid be withheld from an American ally at war with Russia – for the same reason the Kurds got whacked, ally’s one day abandoned the next?
This is from the Washington Post and we all know it’s anti Trump. Everyone who has doubts about Trump is anti Trump. Even 30 year diplomats like Yovanovitch are ‘bad news.’ Everyone is ‘bad news’ in Trumps circle or can become ‘bad news’ apparently accidentally.
If I’ve made a grammar or spelling mistake that will explain everything.

  But frankly, who cares about this piece of American domestic politics? What’s it got to do with us? Absolutely nothing. Does it affect us? Not in the slightest. Do we have any influence over it? None whatsoever. Depending upon your point of view, at best Donald Trump has only 14 months left in the Presidency, or at worst, 50 months and then he’s gone, impeachment or not.
  
  This has always been a problem in New Zealand in my view. Far too much focus, time, energy and concern spent on the domestic politics of other countries (and then trying to make those problems ours) and not enough focus on our own domestic issues which should be front and center of what occupies us.

    Yes and no. The USA’s major role in geopolitics and world trade does have ramifications for NZ, and the President is influential in USA’s policy in such areas. We are no immune from the USA’s interactions with China, for instance.
    Also, I stocked up on popcorn when Trump got elected, and the show hasn’t let me down. Part of me would welcome a second season for that reason only.
    
    Do we have any influence over it? None whatsoever.

  Really? Remember, a guy heard from 3rd hand gossip around the water-cooler about a call where Trump was withholding aid until Ukraine does something. We get the transcript of the call and aid isn’t mentioned at all. Not even once.
  
  Not only could they not find any reason to believe this complaint had any legitimacy whatsoever, but they investigate it and found it to be a false claim. Yet, the Dems started an entire impeachment inquiry on the basis of it anyway.
  
  Then immediately after, they are told numerous times that Ukraine has no knowledge of aid being withheld at the time of the call where, remember aid was never even mentioned once. And yet, they continue this inquiry with nothing more than 3rd hand gossip.
  
  This kind of scummy behavior is the game that is being played. Whatever your view of Trump, one can conclude the Dems are far from running a fair and honest process here.
  
  How about this? The Dems are subpoenaing people based on this: a guy heard from another guy who just recently remembered that months ago he heard another guy say the word “investigation” from the other end of another guy’s phone call, and believed, without any confirmation at all, that it was Trump who said it.

  A fairer question is: why is aid being withheld from an ally that is known to have serious corruption problems? There could be all sorts of reasons to withhold aid that you can imagine, I’m sure. Until the withholding of aid can be connected to the favour, you have nothing, and even then, it’s still not enough to say anything dodgy was definitely going on.

  Theres no problem doubting Trump if you have good reason to doubt, but do you have good reason? When you have such a farcical impeachment enquiry against him built upon gossip that was disproven, until they have something more than that, you should be more doubtful of the Dems behaviour and motives than Trump’s.
  
  The only thing that can be confirmed right now is that Trump asked Ukraine to investigate why Joe Biden, as the VP, interfered in foreign legal affairs that he clearly had a very very serious conflict of interest in, which is a fair thing for the President to want investigated, whether he happens to gain personally from it or not.

    Unless you’re painting with numbers in kindergarten it didn’t have to be. He was generally just asking for a favour right? Nothing to do with the prosecutor getting fired, the bad diplomat or Biden. Just all random connections. Sure.
    Don’t recall if it was Yovanovitch or someone else who recently said that Ambassadors and diplomats were genuinely concerned about making a public statement – least a tweet followed contradicting them. And of course when you went from good to bad with the tweet box, the next tweet was calling for a bus to park outside your office because you ‘were going to go through some things,’ or maybe under them.
    Will the day happen when some republicans call him out, tell him he’s not wearing any clothes or that Rome is burning? Somehow I think John McCain would have reached that point, oh I forgot he was a coward that got caught.

      Uh…I expliticly said that was the favour. None of that is debated. You aren’t follow are you? The part that the whistleblower mentions is aid being withheld. That is no where in the call. That’s the disconnect.

        Just to put in a plug for the Mods, who have a thankless task that they do voluntarily (as far as I am aware).
        It is going to be hard work for the Mods to have specific rules of engagement for each pairwise combination of people on Kiwiblog.         We’ve both seen plenty of sexual innuendo and abuse directed towards other posters or public figures over the years here. That’s Kiwiblog.
        Speaking for myself, I think some of stephieboy’s comments are puerile, but I think a lot of the comments about him (or something he has posted) over the years are just as puerile as well.
        
        If you want a “cleaner, greener” Kiwiblog in general – fine. It wouldn’t affect me because, for the most part, I think I avoid that style of exchange. But it’s unreasonable to expect the Mods to actively protect specific people from KB’s more ugly side.
        
        [Mod – you’d probably think differently if you saw the link from stephieboy that I deleted earlier this afternoon.     It is a well thought out alias.
    In this day and age, thought criminal is a true and sad reflection where social media is pushing people.

It’s interesting to note just how out of touch DPF and a large number of KBloggers are with National MPs on the euthanasia debate. Only 31% of National MPs supported Seymour’s bill in contrast to 79% of the Coalition MPs, including 100% of the Greens and 100% of NZ First.

I applaud the 69% of National MPs who voted against it.

  On of my granddaughters was born a month premature. My son in law had to rush my daughter to Auckland Hospital early in the morning.
  Just after she arrived there was blood everywhere & we very nearly lost both of them. Doctors and nurses rushed around and saved the day.
  People grizzle and grump about our hospital system. That wasn’t our experience that day when the chips were down.

      Good onya Paulus, stick with the exercises. You should find that having a bilateral TKR, you will walk again without a limp as you don’t have a good one and a bad one so no favouritism. Had mine 15 years ago. One lasted 13 years, the other is going strong still.
      It does tend to put a bit of strain on the hips after walking for years rolling like a drunken sailor then suddenly walking straight but with luck you will have gained a few mm in height which is never a bad thing.

    There is absolutely nothing special about having done 3 terms. The fabled MP super scheme was scrapped, for new entrants, nearly 30 years ago. There is only one MP left who will get it when he retires. That is Nick Smith, who was elected in 1990 and has been there ever since.
    Hughes will get whatever he has put into his private super scheme plus any taxpayer paid subsidy amount he is entitled to. He will get nothing else.

    In needing to treat Planet Earth like a textbook exercise, the climate scientists were forced to break the rules of scientific etiquette and ethics, and to play scientific power-politics in a way that inevitably became corrupt. I have made a bet for $20 about 6 months ago that I do not want to win – the COL will win the next election.
This is based on the fact that the “right” have to get 50.1% and frankly I felt that no friends National will not make it – I see no great shift in the polls for ACT or New Conservatives.
However my real concern is that too many out there have a holistic view of Ardern and Labour.

  * A climate change minister who spends more time in the air than 99% of Kiwis. Will going to another 10 conferences really make any difference for the better?
  * People sawing down forests, then shipping them thousands of km using oil to meet their biofuel quotas.
  * People flattening forests to put up “green” wind farms.
  * A whole lot of methane panic blaming agricultural methane for a huge % of our GHG budget. With correct GHG accounting we’d have some of the lowest in the world.

  According to Newshub (Oct 2018): “There will now be no cap on the number of surgeries performed, while the previous caps will become a minimum number of surgeries every two years.
  
  “Documents obtained under the Official Information Act show the Associate Health Minister Julie Anne Genter sought advice on increasing the number of surgeries performed under the public health system. The documents advised the minister she could lift the cap to increase access to surgeries. A spokesperson has since confirmed this decision was taken. ”
  
  I do not know of any other type of surgery for non-life-threatening conditions having no cap.

Thousands of West Coasted marched in Greymouth today protesting the policy of the Coalition Government which are hurting the West Coast and their gutless Labour Minister Damien O’conner didn’t have the courtesy to be present.

A battle to help a young entrepreneur banned from driving his ride-on lawnmower to jobs has gone to Parliament.

Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean has offered support to 14-year-old Johnny O’Neill after reading of his plight on Stuff.

Johnny, who started his own garden maintenance business in 2017, was warned by police not to ride his 780cc mower, which travelled about 5kmh, to jobs in Cromwell in Central Otago after a member of the public complained.   My son uses these e scooters quite often and I shudder. Sooner or later users will need to be regulated eg confined to footpaths or cycleways , compulsory helmets ( the first e scooter user killed landed on his head . A helmet would have most likely saved him)
