      Indeed. And they bought tickets in every raffle, wnt to the RSA or a chartered club every Friday night, and went to every school gala day, often getting dunked, of having cream sponges squashed in their faces. They did it out of a sense of service.
      
      These days, and especially for List MP’s, it’s more about traveling up and down the country being an activist, writing social media posts and getting selfies. They barely mix with the public any more, and being an MP is a career, not an act of public service. We lost our way somewhere…

        National’s buddy list MP for Ohariu is very active. He has an electorate office and does all the things an electorate MP does. He badly wants to win the seat next year and boost the party vote for the electorate. Many other list MP’s do similar.

      What politics is about, at its essence, is getting out among people you seek to represent, getting to know them and what matters to them, and getting them to know you so you can represent them effectively
      
      I.e. exactly what Bridges is doing. Your “serious business” which I presume is pontificating in Wellington comes after this. Perhaps if you had been an electorate MP rather than a list benefactor you would have a bit more feel for this.

We knew about their

qualification to govern (at least ahead of the current clown car circus)
But this is good.
Labour have no sense of humour and no talent.
National (at least the meetings I have been to) have a self effacing humour, but it is coupled with an ability to do the job.

This is really baffling. This was Simon not Soyman. How come he can sing clear rounded vowel pronunciation but when speaking strangles words. He sang ‘true’ but speaking would say ‘chew’. He sang ‘tender’ but speaking says ‘tanda.’ Could it be this is the real Bridges, and he’s fakes the Kiwi vernacular the same as Key did, who now talks quite posh. Not as posh as Shipley mind you who has had a total voice make-over. What is it with National leaders?

Hi DG, Simon is being a serious politician, he is responding to what his audience likes, He is with a bunch of Kiwi domiciled Filipinos, I live in the Philippines 5 to 6 six months of the year, and NOTHING is more important to the general populace than singing and dancing. Despite the majority being hopelessly poor, they are always out for a good time, and always happy. I really admire them.
