  This last several days is quite intriguing.
  NZ7572 has been constantly ferrying troops to Queensland, it appears NZ7571 has completely gone missing in action.
  Listening to Winston on ZB, he is like Shultz,
  “I know nothing”
  Doesn’t know
  Who or where from the $300,000 man is
  Doesn’t know where the PM is but rest of world does.
  Doesn’t know what model car he drives.
  He has just come back from South America, enlighten me, private, government business?
  Did he fly there on NZ7571? Where did he go?
  Why all this secrecy from New Zealand’s open government.
  I cannot find one mention by press except his statement on ZB on South American trip.
  The COL is pushing tin like their is no tomorrow, maybe as an open government they can report the hours these two aircraft are utilised by the COL.
  If you want have a climate emergency, then act accordingly.
  I ask the question, give me a list of commercial flights Ardern and Peters have taken since coming to office, think you would count them on your right hand.

In view of the fury over the unauthorised expenses paid to Mr Hisco of the ANZ should I be worried over who is paying for Ms Ardern’s holiday in Aitutaki where it is understood that her partner is making a fishing film.
Did she fly AirNZ or RNZAF 757 to Rarotonga along with he usual entourage of hangers on as such a trip would need the usual political and security attachments – and media ?
Was this an authorised trip if so who authorised it ?

    CBD an be produced cheaply as different strains of cannabis produce different concentrations of THC/CBD relative to each other. With the right strain there is insignificant THC. The extraction of the oil is simple and inexpensive.

    I think it’s even more significant than that. It’s more the straw that will break the camel’s back.
    
    There was a story yesterday that even with the Winter Energy Payment, seniors can’t afford to heat their homes because of rising line charges. Add in the Meningitis vaccine withheld from Northland kids, the Kiwibuild debacle, the unavailability of cancer drugs, the uninspiring “Wellbeing” Budget and business confidence slumping as the economy slows*, and there’s barely a sector in New Zealand that is NOT affected by some stuff-up from the Coalition.
    
    It really is turning into a Winter of Discontent for the Government, but to rewrite the old saying, Jacinda is fishing while New Zealand burns.

      Who would’ve thought it? Rising subsidies leading to rising charges. Reminds me of when the UK govt introduces a £2,000 home insulation subsidy, and 12 months later a study showed that the average cost of home insulation had increased by £2,000.

      I think the rock bottom Business confidence is the big one. i work in property and builders and all associated trades seem to have less “booked work”, – i noted this morning job creation is well down, and NZ Oil and Gas are essentially walking from the NZX. The news from China that logs are sitting on the dock unsold is more bad news. Things are rolling backwards – but it all ok Cindy has just sequestered (allegedly) the RNZAF plane for her holiday (oh dear sweet baby jesus please let that be true)

      They fail to understand that the Hydrodams (which incidentally they hate as habitat destroyers) are actually giant batteries which we tend to use up during evening peak and if we used them continuously during the night to charge up all our EV’s then we would have a “Flat” dam battery come morning and the morning peak.
      
      The bottom line is that the energy to move wheels currently been generated by ICE engines must still come from somewhere.
      
      This is (to quote Hosking) “Reality.”
      
      There is no such thing as a free lunch.

      Electric cars will only take off when you can charge them at the equivalent of current petrol stations in no more than 15 minutes. And when they have a range of 500 km and when they have the performance and utility and price of petrol powered cars. I assume that will happen. Maybe in three years or maybe in twenty. But that is what it will take.
      
      Remember that the average age of New Zealand cars is 14 years. That means that the average value of New Zealand cars is about $6000. Most people cannot or will not pay for expensive cars.

  Burning petrol produces a lot of carbon dioxide.
  
  It also produces carbon monoxide. It is not a greenhouse gas.
  
  IIRC there are nine or ten greenhouse gases besides co2. Methane is the main one. The rest are exotics such as Hexafluoroethane.

  You can argue the pros and cons of EVs. Having spoken to people within the electricity supply industry, we will have the appropriate renewable capacity, but what nobody has addressed is the simplest of questions.
  
  Will we have the cars?
  
  There is a huge push for EVs, worldwide. Europe we all know about. China is pushing for 12% of its passenger fleet to be EV by 2020. That’s next year, folks. California is pushing for similar, so demand for batteries will be huge.
  
  The other thing to consider is all these countries are far larger markets than piddly old NZ, and we are a difficult market to get product to.
  
  All of these other markets not only larger, but drive on the RIGHT. So we can’t even leverage off their production.
  
  Current new EV purchasers are waiting for 9 months, unless you have put a deposit on a Tesla. I have heard that some people have died while on that waiting list.
  
  Genter is relying on multinational companies to produce cars for NZ, when there is huge global demand, and we are a smaller market in a small category. India and Japan may be our saviour there, but I would imagine the majority of their manufacturing would be for the local market.
  
  However, as all manufacturers are ramping up EV production, Genter may be looking to claim credit for something she has no effect on. This will resolve itself in time, but Genter should realise that we are at the back of a very long queue.

  Has anyone seen anywhere a single statistic on what any proportion of electric vehicle uptake will have on the national grid.
  I have never seen any estimation even on what effect the use of electric cars will have on country-wide power requirements, let alone provision of charging stations.
  And how much would running an average electric car add to the average home power bill – week, month, any measurement would be interesting.

      Thanks MCos has anybody considered where the additional water will come from to provide the additional demands? Normal practice is to take advantage of off peak demand levels by shutting down some turbines to conserve water. With a rush of the EV population the potential is there to all but eliminate this saving creating a constant demand. Lake levels have often been a concern after long dry spells but now seem of little concern to the feel good team. Added to which the present hydro-dam system was never designed or constructed to be operated at a constant or even near constant peak level. Or for that matter the national grid. This crazy scheme has the potential for the biggest impact from unintended consequences than another seen to date.

    From what I understand, the average home is not really equipped to charge an EV. Oh, it can be done, but it takes much, much longer from your plug at home.

    I did some figures last year (and posted them on KB) to look at the “big picture”. My figures do not take into account any energy efficiencies EVs have of petrol/diesel vehicles but even if you say the energy requirement is 50% less , to make an easy calculation,( I do not think it is that low) it can be seen major increases in electricity generation is required if a significant percentage of the fleet was EVs.
    
    “With all the discussion about electric cars etc. many of us ask the question “Where is all the electricity going to come from?” So I decided to look into the basic energy figures. It was relatively easy to find on MIBE website. In summary we find the following:
    
    Fuel Consumption (2017 figures):
    All fuels =274.42 PJ (petajoules)
    Less avgas =14.25 PJ (can’t have planes running on batteries)
    Balance = 260.17 PJ (Petrol, diesel, Fuel oil, LPG)
    Petrol alone = 113.87 PJ
    
    Electricity Production (2016 figures):
    Total production = 42,591 GWH
    (from the MBIE site 1 GWH = 0.0036 PJ )
    
    So to have all fuels (the balance above) replaced with electricity the
    EXTRA electricity required = 72,269 GWH (ie 170% more than current generation)
    For just petrol replacement the EXTRA required = 31,630 GWH “

    Some extra info I saw on google
    If you drive an average of 25-30km a day (like most Kiwis), the cost of charging an EV is equivalent to paying 30c per litre for petrol. You can charge your EV while you sleep for about $3.00 per 100km, depending on the model. A fast charge can cost up to $10 for 100km, and takes about 20 minutes.
    
    A Leaf charges all night once a week for 30km/day running

      From practical knowledge a standard imported leaf with 10/11 bars of battery capacity will go 130 Kms in warm conditions and 100Kms when its cold, both affected by speed, over 70Kmh the range falls logarithmically. Great for commutes of say 25Kms each way per day and certainly cheaper in fuel terms but range management must be carefully managed as it is not recommended to fully charge or discharge if good battery life is expected. Keeping within the recommended 20/80% battery charge range provided 14.4Km per Kwh at 5-8Kms per Kwh depending on speed & temp so a range of 72-115 Kms is an average actual range.

Ronovationz is a property ownership mentoring company in Auckland. It helps and mentors its members to buy and renovate properties.
Recently it adopted a rule that two or more members could not compete for the same property on the market to avoid driving up prices unduly.
The Commerce Commission considers this anti-competitive and is taking legal action against Ronovationz. I think the Commerce Commission has lost the plot here. Anything that dampens house prices should be regarded as a ‘good thing’ and so the Commerce Commission should think very carefully before it acts in such cases.
Similar with its actions against real estate agents who ganged up against Trademe when it significantly increased charges. The agents were reacting to monopoly behaviour by Trademe but Trademe squealed to Commerce Commission and the real estate agents concerned were hit hard. The Commission should have investigated Trademe as well.
Seems to be big lack of brain power and reasoning here.

We had an Otago university student job applicant unable to prove she had completed her degree because whilst a student she had used the University’s School of Dentistry services and never paid the few dollars they charge for her dental care, so the University would not confer her degree. We figured if she couldn’t be bothered to pay $50 for subsidised dental care then we couldn’t be bothered employing her.

Meanwhile if you are going to buy a new electric car, it’s going to be cheaper – but only because others will be hit with an extra big tax to pay for it. Meanwhile, when you add up all the carbon dioxide that goes into making a new electric car, it makes more sense to buy a small petrol engine car if you want less emissions over the life span of the vehicle – that’s if you believe in that shit. ?

The ratio has jumped to one in 50 among male prisoners, while the British Government’s “equities office” estimates one in 200 of the general male population is transgender.

Among male ~~Gypsy~~ “travellers” in prison the transgender population has jumped to one in 10.

Britain has opened its first unit for transgender prisoners. It’s in a women’s prison.

The USA women’s soccer team brouhaha. Forbes points out that when everything is taken in to account, the women’s team, by percentage, are actually paid MORE than the men’s soccer team.

The total prize money for the Women’s World Cup in France this July will be $30 million compared with total prize money of $440 million for the men’s teams at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

“The difference between the men’s and women’s prize money is ridiculous,” Tatjana Haenni, who oversaw women’s soccer for FIFA before stepping down in 2017, said, according to the Associated Press. “It’s really disappointing the gap between the men’s and women’s World Cups got bigger. It sends the wrong message.”

Nonsense. When viewed appropriately—based on how much money they generate—women actually make more than men.

As Dwight Jaynes pointed out four years ago after the U.S. women beat Japan to capture the World Cup in Vancouver, there is a big difference in the revenue available to pay the teams. The Women’s World Cup brought in almost $73 million, of which the players got 13%. The 2010 men’s World Cup in South Africa made almost $4 billion, of which 9% went to the players.

The men still pull the World Cup money wagon. The men’s World Cup in Russia generated over $6 billion in revenue, with the participating teams sharing $400 million, less than 7% of revenue. Meanwhile, the Women’s World Cup is expected to earn $131 million for the full four-year cycle 2019-22 and dole out $30 million to the participating teams.

The pay disparity is justified.

If the women were paid the same total as the men — $400 million — they would be making nearly four times more than they generate. The men make 7% of their revenue. The women apparently want 400% of theirs. That’s absurd, obviously, to say the least.

Mark Levin said on his radio show that the women’s team acted like punks, trashing their country and trashing the president. The least respectful team in the game.

How can anyone take this Government seriously any more , or more specifically the Greens.
A week ago they were saying cars like Swifts and Demios were unsafe and should not be in the vehicle.
This week I learn that the Swift will be one vehicle which will be cheaper ( via subsidies) under Genter’s proposed new scheme ,because it has lower emissions and would meet her criteria for the subsidies.
Does ” the left hand know what the right hand is doing” in this Government ?

Just finished reading a fascinating book about the capture of Adolf Eichmann.
Without this amazing achievement by Israeli agents of getting Eichmann out of Argentina and put on trial, the murder of 6 million European Jews would have been “denied” to a far greater degree than it still is.
Shortly after Eichmann was captured, Mengele was spotted in Brazil by the leading Nazi hunter, but had to be called back to rescue an 8 year old boy kidnapped by extremist orthodox Jews.
What a pity.

    This thug doesn’t get jail for his vicious assault on a couple, and nor did the Muslim teenager who was planning to murder Christchurch citizens in a car and knifing massacre (he learned to play golf as part of his “rehab”, and even invited the judge to a barbecue).
    
    Compare this with the sentence of the teenage schoolboy idiot in Christchurch who was jailed, and was returned to jail, for charges connected with passing on the mosque massacres video.
