  The message of God in John 3:16 is plain. It is a message expressing God’s loving sacrifice so the humans He created could be reconciled to Him and have eternal life. How awesome is that?–becoming one of the permanent family of our creator, maker of universes. Mindboggling beyond comprehension.
  
  The message will offend, scripture says so, but it’s acceptance is a release to freedom. We live together in a world with an ever present enemy of God. This is Satan’s domain after he was rejected from heaven along with his followers for rebellion. He is described as the father of lies, prowling around like a lion attempting to separate humans from God. His success is in not being recognised. A large part of the evil and dissent we encounter is his work. Yes, Good and Evil do exist in this world.

      Weird, certainly. But how can humans know the mind of God? Jesus, as son, was sacrificed because justice required a price be paid for relief from humanity’s disobedience. Jesus was also gloriously resurrected and we have just had our annual celebration of that event.
      
      It’s that strangeness that requires faith and we have the 3rd part of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit on active duty in this world to assist us in that. With faith comes an opening up of the blessings in ordinary daily life to a believer. Lives are changed.

  A pity Simon didn’t ask ja if she stood by her answer to gabbling garner on am that stats had received $5 million less for the census when the funding was increased by $41 Million, the $5 million being related to a reduction on the staff cost element. And a supplementary – if $41 Million wasn’t enough to get accurate figures what responsibility does the minister (J Shaw) for his oversight if he even met with stats during his period in office and how much more would she allocate for the next census to ensure accuracy.

    The 2018 Census was a fail not because the lack of money.
    It was because some inept bureaucrat ( Have they got a DCM yet) had this deluded belief that all the little peasants sit at home at their computer primed to fill out the required forms.
    It may be the in thing to be electronically connected.
    But the reality is thousands don’t have access, for a number of reasons.
    Or they simply have no need or any desire to anything to do with being on line.

First impression of the new premium content NZ Herald site – it is unbelievably annoying.

I had been assuming there would be only a modest number of premium articles, and that they would be separated off in their own section. Instead, it seems like more than half the content is flagged as premium, and premium articles are just scattered in with the rest. The result is an incredibly frustrating experience. You’re skimming headlines, see something and think “ok, that looks interesting”, but then it’s a 50/50 shot whether you’ll be able to read it.

My suggestion to the NZ Herald – don’t waste people’s time with this obnoxious half-way format. Either just be honest and go entirely subscription, or return to a free model. As it is now the site is not worth bothering with for non-premium users. I certainly won’t be going back, and have already deleted the bookmark.

  There is a lot of conflation in that article.
  
  There is a difference between a backdoor and a vulnerability.
  
  A backdoor is something that is deliberately put into the code/system. Sometimes these are for legitimate reasons (eg. maintenance) and sometimes for nefarious purposes. Almost all systems have some sort of back door for service etc.
  
  A vulnerability is a bug or design oversight that can provides a means to crash the system or, in some cases, provide access to the system. There are many well known vulnerabilities that can cause problems in some systems but are benign in others. For example a classic case of a vulnerability is a buffer overflow that can be triggered by sending malicious packets. On some systems these might allow access to sensitive data and on others they provide access to nothing.

  Many programs have back doors because programmers need access to dynamic internals for their work. Sometimes they are used for maintenance later. These are not weapons. Hardware has them too.
  
  Google & others are worse as they deliberately take peoples data and use it for their business purposes.

    Google uses data to better target ads and none of that data is shared or has ever been hacked etc. Frankly I’m far more comfortable with that than using a Huawei phone or them being too tightly tied into the 5G network.

Matthew Hooton makes the point that Jacinda’s absolute rejection of a Capital Gains Tax is the reason she will romp to victory in 2020. Does Matthew expect us to believe that this woman of mediocre intelligence became an Albert Einstein overnight and decided to make one of her Captain’s Calls to ditch it?

This is of course dependent on us all forgetting Labour and Ardern’s fanatic wish to tax water bottling, then irrigation water, then finding as it got a little out of hand, Jacinda in a “captain’s call” shoved the whole mess sideways into the Tax Working Group, which came up with the Capital Gains Tax that she is now saving us from. It is indeed congratulating ‘the Boy who called “Wolf!” too often’, for saving us from its non-existent jaws.

Except ”the boy who called wolf” didn’t waste millions in taxpayer funding, take months to consult, report, then screw about in a PR vacuum, wasting media space, time and emotions of many people who could have been usefully doing something else. The wolf just ate him.
Pity Jacinda’s fairy story doesn’t end the same way with a satisfying moral.

Yesterday there was quite a bit of discussion on James Shaw accepting Government departments manipulating statistics to fill in blanks in the 2018 Census … at the time I thought that was unusual (and imagine if National were in Govt doing it – there would be an outcry from the left and MSM) but it wasn’t until later I realised but of course James Shaw supports manipulating statistics because that’s what the Green movement does in relation to accepting manipulating statistics to support their particular narrative on “climate change”!

So the question is, can the public realistically support anything James Shaw says as being credible when at the end of the day James Shaw supports the manipulation (and merging) of real data with guesswork?

The Crusaders proposed name change has raised an interesting Constitutional concern.

The Serjeant at Arms (various spellings) is responsible for maintaining order at parliament. He also carries the ceremonial mace into the House. What is interesting is the origin story, and connection with the Crusades.
According to NZ Parliament website:
“The role of the Serjeant-at-Arms originated in medieval England, where they served as royal bodyguards. Twenty four of them accompanied Richard I on the Crusades. They each carried a Mace (a large lethal club) and had the power to arrest people without warrant.”

Serjeants were like bailiffs, while Serjeants-at-arms were soldiers.
Around 1415, the British House of Commons received its first sergeant-at-arms, from King Henry V. The mace in the UK Parliament is the symbol of royal authority and without it neither House can meet or pass laws (unlike NZ where it is purely symbolic).

So every sitting day, a position and an item linked directly with the Crusades are used to open and give legitimacy to Westminster-type parliaments, including US, Canada, Australia and NZ. The current UK Serjeant at Arms is Mr Mohammed Amal (Kamal) El-Hajji.

Will some politicians advocate for a name change on sensitivity grounds? Suggestions?
Should the mace be replaced by an indigenous and non-violent equivalent?
When will the madness end?

While on the defense of his and Jonseys largesse, his usual “look at nationals record blah, blah, blah” he made the point of only getting action under his watch – not the govt, not the coalition, but Winston First. Could his ego be more inflated ? I propsoe that all disucssion about the provincial slush fund should give credit to Labour, Adern and Robbo. Throw in James Shaw for the credit and Winston will explode…..he will force Adern and co to publically state its all Winston, which highlights the $ for votes which it actualy is.

    Two identical vehicles colliding at 80km/hr each head on is just the same as one vehicle at 80km/hr colliding with an unyielding object in terms of the accelerations on the occupants.
    
    If there is large disparity in mass between the vehicles then the light weight vehicle is the one that is screwed – and if a 40 tonne truck at 80km/hr hits a 2 tonne car at 80km/hr head on then it is more like the car is having a collision at 150+km/hr.

To anyone doubting Simon Bridges’ debating ability can I refer them to his speech at the start of the General Debate that followed immediately after QT today. Don’t stop watching at the end of his allotted time because Peters’ very foolishly cocked up which provided Bridges with an additional five minutes to speak off the cuff. He absolutely hammered Peters (and Mark) and NZ First. Well worth a watch on replay.

    Being some one that has had his share of criticism from people on here about spelling, fall stops and comas I get sick of people whinging. But your dislike for Simon on how he speaks,not good in debates, crap at question time, debates and at holding the Government to account is pissing me off so tidy up your act at starting posts with a capital and using capitals to start sentences before you pick holes in what others do. How a person speaks, dresses etc is not something that interests me. What on earth is going on at the NZ Herald? Ive read it most days for years without a problem, then now, when i click on to see “Who Jilled Blair Peach” – after the very first para it fades OUT and tells me i will need to pay $2.50 to continue reading!! Let’s hope Simon’s isn’t rolled anytime soon, just for the fact that it will prove Tova O’Brien wrong. Seriously though what the hell is her issue with Bridges?. I just caught the tail-end of that Andrew Dickens on ZB hoping HDPA would be coming on. Now, while i never majored in physcology, nevertheless i still consider my self to be a reasonable judge of a persons character. Have you ever noticed that when someone calls talkback and says, “Im calling about the drug issue” – that you can tell immediately from the sound of their voice, ‘what sort of school they went to, the sort of suburb they were bought up in, they would never have had a proper job in their life, are on a benefit of some kind , yet they will say that they are in favor of ALL drugs being legalized’.

  hmmm, my advice would be don’t judge a book by your perception of it’s cover. I had a neighbour in auckland. Rough looking and talking guy. The kind of person that people like you would describe as you have above. Only problem was he is a multi millionaire, self made with at that time over 30 rental properties. When I was a kid one of our customers was a dirty, stinking hoarder, again, a self made millionaire.

      I support it for medical use, and hope it becomes more afforadble. If I could afford it I would use CBD oil. But the price is just unreachable for most people that need it.
      
      I’m not a fan of recreational cannabis, but I think that should be legalised. For a few reasons. Free up police and court time. Take that tax free businesses away from the gangs and start taxing it.

There’s proposed legislation currently at the Select Committee stage which concerns me more than a little. Part of the Misuse of Drugs Amendment Bill will affirm the existing discretion to prosecute for possession and use of all drugs.

Readers of my humble offerings will know that I’m vehemently against existing law regarding Class C drugs but the latest brain fart from David Clark seeks to advance the role of police into Judge Dredd territory. The sanctioning of discretion is a direction to ignore use of Class A & B drugs where Court ordered treatment would be more effective than fines or imprisonment.

Police are essentially keepers of the peace & gatherers of evidence. The courts decide guilt & punishment. To muddy the roles invites corruption & removes the impetus for Parliament to amend or abolish unnecessary legislation.

The actions of an individual should be either legal or illegal. If there’s a grey area the relevant legislation should be rewritten or formally disposed of.
