Vodafone sold. I’ve had a couple of senior roles there over the last 20ish years. The heady days of Bellsouth->Vodafone were the most fun. Good times.

  Our business had hung in with Vodafone for a number of years, but we changed to 2Degrees at the end of last year. It was becoming increasingly difficult to get answers out of anyone at Vodafone, and we’re not only saving money now, but we are getting a much better level of customer service.

    This is the sort of thing Infratil has to fix. They have experience with this sort of thing with Trustpower and improving its act in this regard has been one of Trustpower’s objectives (how successful they are with this I do not know).
    Seems to me that the investment market had no confidence with Vodafone NZ being handed ‘as is where is’ to investors in a IPO but Infratil no doubt sees value in it when it is kicked into shape.
    Be interesting to see what happens to Infratil’s share price today.
    So NZ lost TipTop but gained Vodafone NZ.

      What’s the fuss about Tip Top? As a consumer, I can think of several other NZ made brands that are much nicer. If the new owners can step up with quality, I’m sure they will thrive.

    Vodafone are patchy. We ‘ve stuck with them in our latest refresh largely because we have a really excellent account manager who makes things happen for us – and gets us deals that match the best available as we go out to open tender for renewals.
    
    Briefly a few years back we changed managers and the new guy wasn’t up to scratch and we nearly moved to another provider.
    
    So if you can get the service and the prices you need, they’re good, but it is down to the people they use.

  I would love to see him take on Molyneux and Southern on ‘White Supremacy’ and its apparent wide spread influence in NZ (According to Gower).

      I read that article on the weekend and that was a bullshit clickbait headline, given Salmonds previous epistles in stuffed I was prepared for a hit job on Captain Cook but was pleasantly surprised to see she had gotten a grasp on the reality of the time or maybe she is just a little embarrassed by some previous comments and is attempting to walk them back a little.

      “ENCOUNTER, OR MURDER?” which includes many quotes from “indigenous rights advocate” Tina Ngata.
      This features her recent writing and advocating for a boycott of the “celebrations.” More than $20 million in funding has been given to fund projects.
      Quote from Ngata-
      “Somebody lands and then shoots the person that they see, and then the next day shoots another 15, and then wants to get a closer look at a waka so they shoot everybody in the waka and everybody in the waka was unarmed. They were just fisherpeople.”

I was impressed with Simon Bridge’s delivery and confidence on RNZ yesterday.

Also I read a great article about Aussie Rugby and Israel Folau.
It appears you an attack (like kick) a pregnant girlfriend, snort coke, deal in drugs, assault people go on benders, throw people into garage doors, engage in date-rape, and harass female serving staff, and that appears to get a slap on the wrist. and some pretty serious faces.

But exercise a freedom to quote a bible verse, and you are drummed out of your job for being ‘homophobic’.

    Israel Folau is possibly the best fullback in the world today, highest try scorer is Super Rugby while Australian rugby right now is in the doldrums.
    
    It doesn’t seem smart to knock out one of Rugby unions best players especially when there is competition for young players in competing codes like league and AFL .

      ‘Hell’ is a convenient word for some sort of state of eternal damnation that some people, who believe it will never happen to them, use as a control mechanism of others.
      Of cause it doesn’t work if the other person has different standards or is an afterlife denier.
      Whether you are actually going to go to ‘hell’ for some particular behaviour is a moot point. It’s the threat that’s important and whether or not the person making the threat controls your mind.

Are all NOTABLE not just by their absence but also and more importantly by their SILENCE.
She’s right this just like the Nuclear free times, when all of what Lange did was for NZ consumption, to get him elected, and alienated all our then friends/allies.
It took years to recover even part of those hard won relationships.

Sweden have reopened the case against alleged rapist Julian Assange. I wonder if the likes of Morrissey will look like Polanskis supporters when he is found guilty?

He still maintains this fiction that the charges are false without a single shred of evidence to prove that theory. At this point I suspect even a filmed confession from Assange wouldn’t change that.

        Maggy, this is the same NZ Prime Minister from whom we hear nothing about some very relevant local news. Two of her own Government’s media entities (Radio NZ and Television NZ) have joined with three other major media outlets (Mediaworks, Stuff and NZ Herald) in a pact to control reporting of the Court appearances of Brenton Tarrant, charged with the slaughter of 51 persons in the 15 March mosque attack in Christchurch.
        
        It’s about time that Ms Ardern fronted up publicly to tell us about what appears to be a cosy little censorship plan. Is such an agreement even legal under NZ laws that prohibit collusion between ‘competing’ trading organisations? Does she even care about that? It’s all very well for her to front-up in Paris amongst big political names discussing the actions of social media outlets, but do those important politicians know that her own “mainstream” media outlets will be colluding in controlling news that might otherwise be reported routinely back in her own country?
        
        I want us here in NZ to hear directly from our PM on this subject, preferably in advance of her Paris appearance for the enlightenment of the world’s media.

Not any extremism, just far right extremism. Think of violent acts to do with politics in NZ over the past twenty years – how many were conducted by right wing extremists?   I agree – it looks very much like a false-flag. No casualties and the attack took place as tensions were ramping up – despite Iran wanting a war. On the other hand Saudi Arabia and the UAE will fight to the last American and European soldier – and their tankers were at the center of it. I have a son who follows twitter (which I do not).
This morning he showed me some tweets from people alleging the NZ Police are employing the sort of tactics one might expect from a police state, totalitarian government.
One of the Twitter posters was allegedly asked if he was a follower of Trump.
I was going to add more details here but decided not to after seeing another tweet which resulted in the person receiving a visit from police.
Are we now all under surveillance?
Why would the NZ police want to know if people follow President Trump – or President Putin, for that matter?

  there was an article in stuff today of a man complaining that the police turned up with guns etc. I tend to think if you went out and brought the same gun used in the shooting after the shooting then the police should be following up to why you went out and brought it. And they should be going with their own guns, they have no idea who they are gong to see if they are a risk or not.

      If you are seriously asking – because the appointment of this prosecutor (I don’t think he is a special counsel like Mueller but the languaging is unclear, it is possible) is a pretty clear signal that the Inspector General ‘s report or the Huber investigation has uncovered criminal behaviour that requires prosecution.
      
      Those things have been pretty leak free but there are clear indications that the IG report has been released to the “targets” for their review before public release. That’s why we’ve seen quite a bit of preemptive leaking (for example about yet another FBI/Spy sent to surveil Papadopoulos in the UK – one “Azra Turk”) in the media of late. So prosecutions/indictments are likely coming.
      
      It’s guesswork but I would think that the following have the most to worry about – Comey, McCabe, Strzok, Nellie Ohr, Brennan, Clapper, Yates, Baker, and possibly Powers, Nuland, Lynch, Rhodes, plus maybe Schiff, Glenn Simpson (FARA violations). And of course there may be a re-examination of the Clinton email case where quite a few possibly criminal actions were taken, and Mills, Abedin, Pagliano, and of course HRC herself would be at risk as well as the FBI people who connived at the cover up. Finally there are hints in the material released to date that Obama was well aware and possibly implicitly approved of all the illegal spying, and there are definitely potential problems for MI6 in the UK, and maybe for Alexander Downer and the Australians, and Christopher Steele.
      
      There are more names in the mix, but that’s a good sampling. I’d say that the first group above are almost certain to be charged, and quite a few others might be. This was, after all, a coup attempt to takE down a legitimately elected POTUS, and the potential penalties could be quite harsh – if for no other reason than “pour encourager les autres ”.

  we could believe both. I think I have read before that the mosque has attracted unwanted attention before because of some of the members of it. Also wasn’t there a teen that was arrested not long ago who had “staked” it out. easy to believe the Imam that there had been problems there before. And easy to believe the police that none of what happened before could of prevented the attack. Fits in with the suspicion that many have a lot to hide, starting with the police. Add to this the collusion between the “journalists” not to report on some things and we end up with a Royal Commission not worth the $millions being spent on it, and resulting in the usual government whitewash. You have to laugh at the vision of two of our Mayors and the policy that they have nominated as one of their Election promises. Phil Goff and Justin Lester have promised to rid there Cities of homelessness in their speeches for the upcoming Elections. What I find very funny about this is the present Labour
Government made this same promise
over five years ago as a Election promise and we still have homelessness
and the figure has increased instead of decreasing, so is this promise by two Labour Mayors going to adventuate or is this another empty promise from Labour Mayors.

  it reminds me very much of the fake news debate where they attempt to now say what is fake and what is real. Who decides what is fake and what is real? who decides what is hate speech and what isn’t? We just have to look towards the likes of stuff to see what happens when they decide what can and cant be discussed. So many topics they have banned people from being allowed to comment on and if there isn’t an article that bows to the knees and believes climate change is man made then it is banned from stuff

Talking about fake news, here is an example of a dishonest presentation.
The high court found that although there was a breach of copyright, there was no rip-off — ie no deliberate and dishonest intent.

The court of appeal said the same and reduced damages.

The Supreme Court told him he didnt have a prayer of succeeding and still Stuff take the view most adverse to the Nats.

A Maori journo is calling for Christchurch to be renamed Puari.

Mike Rehu (Michael James Laurence Rehu) suggests the city needs a new name after the earthquake and massacre, and suggest Puari as the name of a pa in the area before white settlement. “Puari” would give “give mana to the original inhabitants of the area.”

With that, of course, the Avon River in the city’s heart would revert to a Maori name, Otakaro, complete with macrons.

Rehu cites as examples of change Indian cities such as Bombay, renamed Mumbai, and Calcutta, now Kolkutta.
Rehu says of the Indian name changes:“… act of tino rangatiratanga set a platform for a golden era.”
So he’s implying Christchurch would have a golden future if called Puari.
He claims the original Puari pa “could have had up to 800 residents who called it home.”

This would have been when the Waitaha tribe predominated in the area. Its successor, Ngai Tahu, didn’t settle on the Christchurch site, but gathered food there.

According to Jobbers, in volume 1 of the “History of Canterbury,” when white settlement began in the 1840s, no more than 500 Maori were living in Canterbury.

You know how irrelevant TV1 &TV3 have become when its more entertaining and informative to watch a live feed of President Trump disembarking from the real Airforce one in Louisiana ,especially now that the filth at the top of the FBI,DOJ and even the CIA are facing hundreds of years in prison for the corruption they carried out on the President and his team.
Jim Comey should spend less time staring up at the redwoods and more time attaching a noose to one of them and doing the right thing,the slimey bastard .

All I can say is you better strap yourself in because, the next six months I expect to see tariffs on the other $300 billion we import from China because it’s become clear that President Trump has decided that the U.S. simply shouldn’t do business with China and if you do you are going to have to pay the price. It’s a rather astounding proposition because China is such a huge trading partner, but the president has decided that our side doesn’t get hurt nearly as much as their side, and the damage will be contained to a very few companies, namely A, B and C: Apple , Boeing and Caterpillar , all of which count on China’s market for growth. … read more via hyperlink above …
